Newsman leaves crucial detail out of burglary account

Somehow, Dan Rather is still able to find an audience despite his very public ouster from CBS in 2004 after reporting falsified and unsubstantiated information about President George W. Bush.

Of course, his audience has been decreased exponentially, but the holdover from a bygone generation of news anchors continues to exercise his First Amendment rights via his own virtually unwatched program and as a guest on other leftist news networks.

Appearing on the Rachel Maddow Show recently, Rather was able to reach an audience likely in double digits. Unsurprisingly, he used the opportunity to decry Republican administrations of yore.

As three major scandals converge on the White House, MSNBC remained true to form and the conversation between Maddow and Rather naturally navigated toward the topic of Richard Nixon.

Rather shared the personal account of a residential burglary he said was the work of  ”the notorious plumbers’ operation,” referring to the group Nixon used to halt White House information leaks.

“It was a long time figuring out who did it,” he said, adding, “this became common during the Nixon administration.”

His nostalgia was uneventful by MSNBC standards, though one detail included in his autobiographical account of the story was suspiciously missing from his on air narrative. In his memoirs, Rather claimed he “did what any Texan would do,” describing that he “made sure the family was safe, then grabbed the shotgun.”

I must admit I’m surprised the detail about a gun even made it into his book, but he described the incident in detail through the written word. On camera, though, looking into the wild eyes of Rachel Maddow, Rather neglected to mention that he pointed a loaded and chambered shotgun at a group of what he later learned were GOP operatives.

Honestly, that might be the one target for which Maddow and her deranged audience feel gunfire is warranted.

Though not surprising to many on the outside, this fall from grace by the administration, is revealing what many said but was previously scoffed at by the Mainstream Media; that the emperor has no clothes and if you mention it they will use strong arm methods to squelch your speech.

The growing list of intimidation tactics.

NBC’s investigative reporter Lisa Myers admits what few on the left want to believe or admit, that this administration has a history of intimidating those who speak against or even question their policies including reporters. The thinned skin Team Obama are intolerant of those who might distract from their story and the approved narrative.

Unfortunately, many in the general public who depend on their thirty minute nightly news program to inform, will remain woefully in the dark about these growing scandals. Now, more than ever, it’s time for those who more closely follow current events to spread the word, to share information. While news organizations, like the AP, may now finally begin speaking more loudly in light of their recent run in with Holder’s DOJ, others will continue to shrink from publicizing the truth in fear of negative reprisal. As individuals we must not let the intimidation tactics of this administration keep the public in the dark. If your friends haven’t heard about these atrocities, the strong arm tactics, the out and out lies perpetrated by this administration it’s time  to speak up. These non-partisan issues should outrage every American.

Talk to people.

Remind them why it is important for reporters to ferret out the truth and keep government officials honest. Let them know that while singling out one group of people who have ideas contrary to the government might seem good today, tomorrow the tables may turn and your group’s ideals may become subject to special government scrutiny. Tell them that while government officials, just like all of us, can make mistakes like in the Benghazi situation, we must take responsibility for our errors and not compound the mistakes by telling lies or blaming others. Inform them of the Chicago style politics used to force acceptance, and promotion, of the very divisive Obamacare.

Even if you are worried about being selected for unwanted attention by the government, speak up. Do it for your kids and for our future.

If you want to fly a Gadsden flag – Fly it. If you want to meet with fiscal conservatives at a “Lower Taxes” meeting – Do it. If a Tea Party rally inspires you to write about the Constitution -Write. Be brave.

The price of freedom is constant vigilance.

Do not let them intimidate you.

Melissa Harris-Perry, a host for a weekend show on scarcely watched MSNBC, was taped in a “lean forward” (euphemism for “lean more left”) promo for the network, said that children don’t belong to their families they belong to the collective.

The host declared, “We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we’ve always had kind of a private notion of children. Your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven’t had a very collective notion of these are our children. So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to whole communities.”

The context seems innocuous enough; continue to engage in insanity (doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results) by throwing more money toward education. The answer to our educational inadequacies and failings is always more funding, to some. Heaven forbid that we should consider using what resources we have more efficiently and effectively, and focus on teaching content that increases academic performance, instead of all the social engineering, and politically correct indoctrination that is so pervasively “taught” in our public schools.

Some don’t even think her terminology, referring to collective ownership of our kids, in the promo is controversial. The New York Times, and other media and extremist organizations have leapt to her defense. What should not be lost on us is that such entities are ideological compatriots to the host, and are firmly predisposed to the collectivist ideals of the left.

I’m sure the folks over at NAMBLA would rejoice over such a concept of collectivist ownership of our kids! And what about all those unborn children that are never given a chance to take their first breath? Should that not likewise be a grave concern to the collective?

In free societies, as America was originally founded to be, private property ownership is sacrosanct. The second line in our Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” The Lockean Creed, upon which that statement is based, equates private property with pursuit of happiness.

While children are not considered property, and are not “owned,” the responsibility for rearing, teaching, and nurturing them is a private one, owned by the parents who brought them into the world. For those who lack the temporal means to support those children, there are safety nets that allow for community support of such disadvantaged children. Even that, however, does not diminish or transfer the very personal and private responsibility of rearing children to the state, or to the collective.

If all of this sounds familiar, it should. Last year in the midst of the presidential campaign Team Obama posted a slide show on the campaign website, with much fanfare, about the Life of Julia. It revealed the Obama Team dream of governmental (in this context, euphemism for “the collective”) involvement at every stage of life, from birth to death, and how the government would be the nurturing parental surrogate through each stage.

Karl Marx said, “The theory of Communism may be summed up in one sentence: Abolish all private property.” Ms. Harris-Perry mirrors this sentiment: the children are not ours, they belong to the collective, and we need to abolish the notion that they are ours. Marx also said, “Anyone who knows anything of history knows that great social changes are impossible without feminine upheaval. Social progress can be measured exactly by the social position of the fair sex, the ugly ones included.” The MSNBC host would make Marx proud.

Who has the right to dictate how a child is to be reared? Certainly not the “collective,” and certainly not the government. It’s a private parental, and familial matter. Or at least it should be. The more government encroaches into health care management, social-engineering dictates, and redefinition of fundamental roles in society, the less control parents have over something as fundamental as the rearing of their children.

It is not just the economic aspects of socialistic and fascistic collectivism that must be resisted and repulsed, but perhaps even more significantly, the social and cultural collectivist agenda must be rejected. We have to recognize this steady encroachment for what it is, and that it is clearly antithetical to a free America.

On March 23, my colleague Mark Finkelstein noted how MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry considers the unborn child a “thing” which takes a “lot of money” to “turn into a human,” costing thousands of dollars to care for each year of his/her life. Now it appears that Harris-Perry thinks that, after they’re born, children fundamentally belong to the state.

Narrating a new MSNBC “Lean Forward” spot, the Tulane professor laments that we in America “haven’t had a very collective notion that these are our children.” “[W]e have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids belong to their communities,” Harris-Perry argued.

“Once it’s everybody’s responsibility and not just the households, then we start making better investments.” By “investments,” of course, Harris-Perry means things like spending “as much in public education as we should have.”

Of course, if as Harris-Perry holds,”[t]he cost to raise a child [is] $10,000 a year up to $20,000 a year,” and if children should be viewed as collectively “owned” by “society,” then taken to its logical extension, a woman’s choices about having a child should be informed by the economic considerations of the “community,” would it not? But of course, that logic would take someone to justify, for example, the “one-child” policy in Communist China.

What’s more, the notion of collective responsibility for children was a philosophy that undergirded the Cultural Revolution in Communist China under Chairman Mao. I bring that up because, as you may recall, another Harris-Perry “Lean Forward” spot contains a reference to a “great leap forward,” which calls to mind the disastrous agricultural reform plan which starved millions of Chinese to death in the 1950s.

If you murder children with guns, the world will regard you as a monster; if you shoot cops you will become a cult hero to the Left.

When 20 year-old psycho Adam Lanza went on a gun-killing spree, murdering 20 children and seven adults, he became the most hated man in America and the propaganda mug for anti-gun leftists desperate for mass-murder-buy-guns in order to promote the anti-second Amendment cause.

When former cop-turned-cop-killer Chris Dorner unleashed his guns against police, Dorner became the latest cop-killer cult hero to anti-gun race-baters and left-wing media anchors.

There are only two differences between Lanza and Dorner: Lanza massacred children, Dorner massacred police officers.  Lanza did not murder cops in revenge for the criminal, drug addicted, alcoholic, wife-beating thug Rodney King, Dorner did.  Thus, Lanza is hated and Dorner is adored.

King’s beating and arrest by cops, who had to defend themselves against King’s violent attacks,  automatically made police racist in the eyes of leftists and media whores promoting all things anti-American and racist–including Chris Dorner.

Adam Lanza’s violence, on the other hand, gave the Left everything it’s been searching for in order to disarm citizens: Children murdered by guns. Now guns truly are assault weapons, dangerous, and the real cause of all deaths in America.

If guns are banned—or at least regulated to the point that citizens are only allowed to purchase one bullet at a time–ala Barney Fife—crime and murder will disappear. Unless necessary–to kill cops.

Necessary murder in the eyes of left-wingers is shooting any American who appallingly wears a uniform.

The Left’s newest darling provided 11,000 reasons for the Left to adore him in a so-called manifesto:

In the end, I hope that you will realize that the small arms I utilize should not be accessed with the ease that I obtained them. Who in there right mind needs a (expletive) silencer!!! who needs a freaking SBR AR15? No one. No more Virginia Tech, Columbine HS, Wisconsin temple, Aurora theatre, Portland malls, Tucson rally, Newtown Sandy Hook. Whether by executive order or thru a bi-partisan congress an assault weapons ban needs to be re-instituted. Period!!! Mia Farrow said it best. ‘Gun control is no longer debatable, it’s not a conversation, its a moral mandate.’ Sen. Feinstein, you are doing the right thing in leading the re-institution of a national AWB. Never again should any public official state that their prayers and thoughts are with the family.

Lanza destroyed all evidence and records for his psychotic rampage. But that shouldn’t matter. Murder is murder. Or is it?

Dorner’s racist, unintelligent, self-styled manifesto further states: “I know I will be vilified by the LAPD and the media.”

Wrong. Dorner has not been denigrated or maligned by the media. He’s been heralded with praise for his violence.

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews shivered with tingles over Dorner’s manifesto admiration of Matthews: “keep up the great work and follow Cronkite’s lead. I hold many of you [journalists, including Matthews] in the same regard.”

How touching. Where’s the Nobel Peace Prize!

Matthews ignored Dorner’s demand that he and his cronies: “Don’t honor these fallen officers/dirtbags.”

Imagine if Lanza left behind a manifesto demanding the media “not honor those fallen dirt bag children?” Matthews would have flown into a psychiatric rage and shot himself in the leg.

Instead, Matthews considers Dorner a peaceful man with a high IQ because:

[Dorner is] Someone who had great media-savvy, who knew, who had the brains to keep track of Hollywood, to keep up with Charlie Sheen, to establish relationships with people through the media, to, in some strange way, enjoy his situation and at the same time wreak havoc on anyone he came in contact to.

Whenever I seek to be well-informed, I look to the “savvy” rantings of  drug-addicted, alcoholic, wife-beater Charlie Sheen.

Furthermore, Matthews’ so-called passive “brainy” intellect, who couldn’t spell or construct proper sentences, certainly demonstrated a hatred of high powered rifles by morally murdering cops with tinier guns than fellow lunatic Lanza.

Dorner’s violence is acceptable to the media because Dorner was black and bullied as a kid: 

Journalist, I want you to investigate every location I resided in growing up. Find any incidents where I was ever accused of being a bully. You won’t, because it doesn’t exist. It’s not in my DNA. Never was. I was the only black kid in each of my elementary school classes from first grade to seventh grade in junior high and any instances where I was disciplined for fighting was in response to fellow students provoking common childhood schoolyard fights, or calling me a nigger or other derogatory racial names. I grew up in neighborhoods where blacks make up less than 1%.

Poor darling! He was the only black kid in school! Someone called him names! And schoolyard fights? Has any American ever heard of such a thing occurring in school? That has NEVER HAPPENED TO ANY KID IN AMERICA!  

Can anyone imagine the New Black Panther Party referring to whites as “whitey,” “white devils,” or “Cracker, you are about to be ruled by a black man” or “You want freedom, you gonna have to kill some crackers…You gonna have to kill some of they [sic] babies,” and “I hate white people, all of them, every last iota of the cracker, I hate em’!”

Ironically Adam Lanza committed what the Black Panthers yearn for: Lanza massacred white children. Yet Lanza and his guns are vilified by the Left. That’s because murder is justifiable when murder involves killing cops: “Those Caucasian officers who join South Bureau divisions with the sole intent to victimize minorities who are uneducated, and unaware of criminal law, civil law, and civil rights,” further declaring:

[T]his is a necessary evil that I do not enjoy but must partake and complete for substantial change to occur within the LAPD and reclaim my name. The department has not changed since the Rampart and Rodney King days. It has gotten worse. The consent decree should never have been lifted. The only thing that has evolved from the consent decree is those officers involved in the Rampart scandal and Rodney King incidents have since promoted to supervisor, commanders, and command staff, and executive positions.

 

Again: If you shoot children, the world will deem you monstrous and demand gun bans. However, if you shoot cops, you will become a leftist cult hero, not to mention highly regarded Ive League college professor.

On the upside, Dorner, who “wants my brain left to science,” likes Michelle Obama’s hair: “I love your new bangs, Mrs. Obama.”

Thank heavens! We can all breathe a sigh of relief! That proves Dorner, whose brain is now useless chard remains, was not a monstrous murderer like Adam Lanza! Dorner was a psychotic murderer with style and taste!

Christie Hefner, spokesperson for the Center for American Progress, was on the air with pseudo-Republican host Joe Scarborough to share her amazingly obtuse view that climate change is responsible for Chicago’s spike in gun violence.

Climate change – a catch-all term much harder to dispute than “global warming” – has been blamed for almost all of the world’s ills by those on the fringe left. Hefner’s diatribe, however, found a new and baffling way to target Americans for their supposed disrespect of the environment.

Citing some “contributing factors” for the violence, she said “there is a dramatic increase in gun violence when it is warmer and we are having this climate change effect that is driving that.”

Embroiled in a culture of violence and suffering under corrupt leadership, Chicago has plenty of causes for its deadly reputation. A normal fluctuation in global temperature is not one of them, despite Hefner’s emphatic contention.

For his part, Scarborough seemed to realize her point was sufficiently controversial and used the opportunity to take a jab at conservative writers.

Telling her “conservative bloggers across America thank you” for the commentary fodder, he couldn’t resist adding that she “made a lot of people in the basements of their mother’s homes very happy.”

For all the left’s hand-wringing over a perceived bias at Fox News, there is absolutely no comparison to the blatant political prejudice found in the mainstream media. By comparison, I suppose a network daring to actually expose the conservative viewpoint to its audience would seem biased.

Obama urging the National Weather Service to find more bad weather before the election.

Hurricane Sandy — much like Barack Obama — turned out to be an over–hyped phenomenon that failed to deliver. Our portion of the storm in Northern Virginia was so weak the Multicultural Commissars didn’t even bother to give it a Hispanic name, like last summer’s “derecho” (formerly known as “severe thunderstorm”).

I tried to lend a hand and come up with a culturally–sensitive name, but Spanish for “Sandy” is still “Sandy,” making it tough to appear cutting edge during a TV broadcast.

“Hurricane” translates as “huracán” and the resulting “Huracán Sandy” fails to advance the cause of linguistic arrogance. It doesn’t compare with changing the perfectly good name of “Bombay” to “Mumbai.” All that did was confuse millions of Americans looking for a particular large city in India. (The Indians already knew where it was.)

Besides, where does one draw the line? Does the “pecan sandie” cookie become the “sandie pacana?”

There were houses smashed by downed trees in my neighborhood — certainly a disaster for the affected homeowners — but nothing to compare with the “derecho.”

Even during the height of the hype, my household preparations were limited to bracing for a potential power outage. Since our family has never associated bowel movements with natural disasters, we even missed the ‘Assault on Food Lion.’ Because we don’t feel compelled to buy a pallet–load of toilet paper anytime it’s overcast for three consecutive days.

The local paper wrote of a Dominion Power repairman that just missed being drowned by rising floodwaters. But who noticed the unsung American Disposal Services crews braving wind and rain to pick up household trash during the beginning of the blow? While government employees, enjoying the shutdown, watched from their front window.

Naturally Obama’s media amen chorus and the administration itself, are doing their best to politicize the storm. There was extensive damage in New Jersey and New York. So the WaPost proclaims, “Storm provides Obama with a commander–in–chief moment.” Which only goes to show the mainstream media (MSM) thinks we’ll believe anything.

The attack on the consulate in Libya provided Obama with a genuine “commander–in–chief” moment where he could have affected events on the ground, which is something “commanders” do. But Obama failed miserably.

Hurricane Sandy provides him with a Social–Worker–in–Chief moment, a situation with which community organizers are much more comfortable. Obama took a helicopter tour while the wind was still blowing. Yet FBI investigators had to wait weeks before they could visit the ruined consulate in Libya, only to discover the scene hopelessly compromised by hundreds of journalists and sightseers who didn’t wait for administration approval.

And to show benighted conservatives how fortunate we are to have Obama in the White House, the WaPost adds: “Rarely, if ever, has a president had to deal with such a major disaster so close to Election Day…”

What’s “rare” — in fact unprecedented — is the MSM allowing an administration to take a bye on a disaster like Libya so close to an election. Governors in New York and New Jersey call Obama for help and he’s Johnny–on–the–spot. SEALs in Libya call for backup during an attack that kills four Americans, including the ambassador, and get an administration brush off.

If only Libya had a few more votes in the Electoral College.

The story also includes a breathless blow–by–blow of his day.  During a videoconference Obama uses the MSNBC slogan as he orders the bureaucracy to “lean forward on this.”

Then he holds a conference call with utility executives and “underscore(s) the urgency of restoring electricity,” as if the people at PEPCO were unaware their customers depend on electric power.

This is busy work in a pathetic effort to look engaged and presidential. It compares unfavorably with Obama’s trip to a Las Vegas fundraiser the evening we learned of Ambassador Stevens’ death.

The New York Times editorial page weighed in with, “A Big Storm Requires Big Government,” possibly indicating the NYT believes severe weather to be a recent invention.

Maybe they have a point. How could we do without FEMA officials “embedded in states’ emergency operations centers” getting the latest from local police, local fire and local officials. Then trying to decide how to give tax dollars taken from the states, back to the states after Uncle Sam has taken his cut for overhead, motivational speakers and government employee awards.

How did we survive disasters before Jimmy Carter’s FEMA got involved?

When I think of the abandoned buildings, the decaying harbor and the rusting trolley cars — all this could have been prevented if only Washington had helped after the San Francisco earthquake.

To say nothing of the vast desert, formerly known as Chicago, after the fire of 1871…

MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, a real life “radical” of journalistic bias, had a discussion over the Romney Campaign recently using a scheduled stop in Ohio, and transforming it into a “donation drive” of sorts for the victims of  Hurricane Sandy.  The day after the Hurricane did its worse damage, Romney staff  rightly cancelled the event as a regular Campaign stop, and asked the attendees and the community at large to stop by the event bringing canned goods, bottled water, clothes, all the items one would need after such a tragic event as Hurricane Sandy.

Well, what in the world was Romney and his staff thinking?  Don’t they know the Red Cross has guidelines and those items aren’t what they are looking for?  Gee, I don’t think Romney was thinking about the Red Cross, he was using his own bus to drive in the goods directly into the areas most affected and distribute the items.     Aren’t there laws in place prohibiting this kind of misguided giving?   According to Andrea Mitchell, and then later Martin Bashir, it sure seems so!  Romney is not worthy to be President, seems to be the thinking—he broke with the Red Cross guidelines, how dare he!   No way can he be “Commander and Chief” says the Left,  this “donation violation” situation sure proves it!

Then, Martin Bashir, feels this is discussion worthy.  He even implies Obama is taking a “jab” at Romney as Obama spoke at the Red Cross later in the day.

President Obama speaking at the Red Cross, used what this writer believes to be “code words“.  Yes, besides Obama himself stressing the Red Cross’ guidelines, stating “these folks know what they are doing, they have guidelines, so give them a call…” he then goes on to “work in” MSNBC’s slogan “Lean Forward”.     So get out your decoder rings, folks.  I agree, this is strange, and if I didn’t hear it myself,  I would have dismissed it.  What caught most as downright odd, he uses this “lean forward” not once, but twice, in the same “speech” which is only a few minutes long. (Listen to the context, it sounds utterly nonsensical, are we losing it altogether?)

 If this is all they got, coordinating slogan speak, and accusing your opponent of donations “violations”  –I am hearing the fat lady sing, loud and clear.  And no, you don’t need a “decoder ring” to get what I am talking about.   Hear me “ranting” on this whole situation from my Radio Show here.    Five days and counting….

This morning on The Morning Joe, even Mika Brzeznski called out the White House for lying about knowledge of the Priorities USA ad, which implies Joe Soptic’s wife’s death was due to Mitt Romney closing GST Steel.

Stephanie Cutter, Obama’s campaign manager, denied knowing anything about Mr. Soptic’s story even though she hosted a press conference call with him three months ago.

The ad has been proven to be materially false. Mitt Romney was not in charge of Bain Capital when GST Steel closed. Prior to it’s closure Mr. Soptic was offered a buyout, which he declined. His wife had health insurance for two years after it’s closure and her death was six years after the plant closed! Notice in the MSNBC segment that Mr. Soptic is wearing the same shirt in both an Obama administration ad and the Priorities USA ad. This seems to beg the question, were the ads shot on the same day?

It is illegal for a campaign to coordinate with a SuperPac on message or advertising.

It’s obvious from their demeanor that they are loath to do it, but kudos to MSNBC and the Morning Joe for doing the right thing!

Krystal Ball of MSNBC’s The Cycle

The day before the Supreme Court ruled ObamaCare’s individual mandate constitutional — as a tax, not as an exercise of the commerce clause — the mostly-liberal panel at the brand-new 3 p.m. program The Cycle explored the question of what, in the view of the panelists, that government should consider making Americans do against their will.

For her part, panelist Krystal Ball insisted that America should be more like Australia, which forces its citizens to vote in it federal elections or else to pay a fine. Unsurprisingly, Ball’s fellow liberal panelists Toure Neblett, and Steve Kornacki were sympathetic to the proposal, with only conservative panelist S.E. Cupp denouncing it as antithetical to the notion of political liberty.

Salon.com’s Steve Kornacki agreed stating that it will lessen the nasty side of campaigning which seeks to turn out voters who are favorable to your side while discouraging voters favorable to your opponent. Toure, the inimitable 9/11 truther, also agreed and said that Election Day should be a national holiday and that voter registration should be mandatory as well.

Cupp was the only voice of reason stating that apathy isn’t nor should be a crime. Conservative columnist  Jonah Goldberg agreed. In response to former Obama budget director Peter Orszag, who holds the same position, Goldberg wrote in the National Review on June 27 that:

One of the chief benefits of coerced voting, according to Orszag, is that it increases participation. Well, yes, and kidnapping drunks in pubs increased the ranks of the British navy, but it didn’t turn the conscripted sailors into patriots.

There was also an inane notion that a lottery and cash prize for people to incentivize them to vote was a free market initiative.

Goldberg slams this and the utopian mindset that this mandatory voter participation would create a more “representative democracy.”  In fact, as Goldberg states, “… fining people, say $15, if they don’t vote and using the proceeds to set up a lottery to bribe reluctant voters. If the old line that lotteries are taxes on stupid people is correct, then the upshot of this proposal is that the cure to what ails democracy is an influx of large numbers of stupid voters.”

Sorry Krystal, but incentivizing people to vote with the carrot of a lottery and the stick of a fine doesn’t make it a free-market initiative, because free markets by definition are marked by freely-contracted exchange, not government coercion and subsidy.
