Birther Nonsense

While I’m not a fan of Stand Up! with Pete Dominick on Sirius XM, he’s always good to get the center-left angle on politics.  In addition, I’m a self-diagnosed politics junkie who was stuck in the wonderful Beltway traffic so I guess you can say I didn’t have a choice in the matter.  Pete’s guest, John Avalon, made a critical point today stating how significant Mitt Romney’s nomination really is to American politics.  He is the first Mormon to be nominated by a major party and the first non-protestant to be nominated by Republicans.  This comes after Mitt’s pervasive hammering surrounding his not so stellar conservative credentials.  The base may have been skeptical about him, but in the end, they choose him over the other clowns who vied for the Republican nomination. However, the mainstream media is not pushing that narrative.  Instead, they’re focused on Donald Trump’s birther nonsense.

Now, I know we should all focus on the economy and other key issues in this upcoming election, but this birther issue does get under my skin.  First of all, it’s beyond absurd.   Barack Obama was born in Hawaii and is a “natural born citizen” who is eligible for the presidency.  Even Andrew Breitbart thought this whole charade was a losing issue.  No one cares! No one cares because the narrative these people are trying to push is not grounded in reality.  It is something akin to an Alex Jones “theory”, who feels that al-Qaeda is an arm of the U.S. intelligence network, or a person who has watched Three Days of the Condor, The Manchurian Candidate, and The Parallax View one too many times.  No doubt shady stuff occurs in Washington, but birthers are so ludicrous it makes me want to hug them in empathy.

My first taste in blogging was for Western Journalism, which reports heavily on the subject.  I cannot bash the folks at Western Journalism too much, since some of them are very professional and cordial, but as the months progressed; I found myself unable to be associated with an organization that peddles, excuse me, this gross propaganda concerning Obama’s eligibility.  It’s been three years folks.  If you haven’t been able to convince the base, the heavyweights in the conservative media, and the American people, you probably don’t have the “explosive find” which you regard as the holy grail of political malfeasance.

Furthermore, like liberals, birthers get agitated, petulant, and downright nasty when people dismiss them and their ideas.  It is a temper tantrum on steroids. An excerpt from a piece on Western Journalism detailed the open letter Breitbart’s Senior Staff released surrounding their legitimate vetting of Obama which, needless to say, didn’t bode well with this writer.

Andrew Breitbart was never a ‘Birther,’ and Breitbart News is a site that has never advocated the narrative of ‘Birtherism.’”

Reading this makes me want to ask in bemused wonder:  How old are you?  (I could, of course, ask the same question of Anderson Cooper, Bill O’Reilly, Mark Levine, Neal Boortz, or Glenn Beck – who are clearly much older to a man.)  But seriously, how immature – or insecure, at least – must one be to be so concerned with what the cultural elites think of them?  Young Ben Shapiro (twenty-eight, and reportedly the youngest nationally syndicated writer in the country) went to Harvard Law. One wonders if he had been president of the Law Review if we would have ever seen one of his publications…but I digress.  Joel Pollak…sure enough, went to both Harvard and Harvard Law – just as I had expected.

While I must congratulate the two on emerging from that milieu with any non-collectivist values, it seems that neither of them escaped with a penchant for identifying and confronting the Alinsky staple of marginalization…or, they accept the practice so fully that they simply can’t bear the thought of being on the receiving end thereof.  Well, grow up, boys!  If what Media Matters says about you is a concern (and it clearly is), then perhaps you should choose another line of work.

I think someone misplaced their pacifier.

The real comical element about this whole movement is that there is no concrete legal definition of the term “natural born citizen.”  They have no cornerstone.  I’ve always thought that the term applied to any citizens born on American soil.  Indeed, I would stand corrected. Byron York wrote a great piece in The Washington Examiner since the rude resurrection of this issue thanks to Donald Trump, who Geogre Will aptly called a bloviated ignoramus last Sunday.  York wrote:

The Constitution specifies that a president must be a “natural born citizen” of the United States, but it does not define the term. The Supreme Court has never clarified the issue, but there is a law, 8 U.S. Code 1401, that spells out in detail who is a citizen.

The law uses the phrase “citizens of the United States at birth” and lists categories of people who fit that description.

First, there are people born inside the United States. No question about that; their citizenship is established by the 14th Amendment.

Then there are the people who are born outside the United States to parents who are both American citizens, provided one of them has lived in the U.S. for any period of time. And then there are the people who are born outside the United States to one parent who is a U.S. citizen and the other who is an alien, provided the citizen parent lived in the United States or its possessions for at least five years, at least two of them after age 14.

Since they are all “citizens of the United States at birth,” the question is, does that also mean they are “natural born citizens” in the constitutional sense?

Birthers believe a natural born citizen is a person born to two parents who were citizens of the United States at the time.  Hence, the reason why birthers have Marco Rubio, the crown prince of the Tea Party movement, in their crosshairs if he should ever be chosen as Romney’s running mate.

Well, according to Theodore Olson, Bush’s former solicitor general:

“My conclusion would be that if you are a citizen as a consequence of your birth, that’s a natural-born citizen…[Olsen] defended John McCain in a 2008 lawsuit alleging McCain was ineligible to be president. McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936 while his father served in the U.S. Navy there. Even though the area was under American jurisdiction and both McCain’s parents were U.S. citizens, some Democrats alleged McCain was ineligible to be president. McCain won the case, if not the presidency.

The law is really quite lenient, especially for those born outside the United States. If a child were born today in, say, Kenya, to a Kenyan father and an American citizen mother who had lived in the United States for at least five years, at least two of them over the age of 14 — that child would be a “citizen of the United States by birth” and be eligible for the White House.

However, this hasn’t stopped people like Joseph Farah of World Net Daily, who vociferously pushes the birther issue and has gone on record to say Rubio is ineligible for the VP slot due to his parents not being citizens at the time.  Washington lawyer Matthew McGill, who York cites in his column, states  “I am not aware of anyone who has contended that someone could be born in the United States and be a citizen by virtue of the 14th Amendment and nevertheless still not be a natural-born American citizen…if he is born in the United States, his parentage is not of consequence.”  No to mention that there is incontrovertible proof that Rubio was born in Miami, Florida.

In the words of John Adams, “facts are stubborn things.” Barack Obama is eligible for president, he is the president, and now we must focus all of our efforts in voting him out of office come November.  We have no time to theorize absurd notions about the “origins of his birth.”  This is time to get serious about the fate of our republic and our economy and we have zero time for sophomoric conspiracy theories whose footnote page is no longer than a kindergartner’s book report.  However, this is a free country.  You have every right to keep your opinions, no matter how insane, but I intend, along with other serious conservatives, to do everything possible in order to restore honor and dignity to the White House.  It’s game time and birthers have come unprepared.  They’re still coming down from their Paxil binge.

Expect the Institutionalized “progressive” Left to Come Out in Force

Comedian Bill Maher gave $1 million to one of President Obama’s SuperPACs. Actor Alec Baldwin’s on record saying that Obama’s re-election ‘In the Bag’. Lanny Davis, who writes for The Hill, is busy covering up for U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder during Congressional investigations into the murder of U.S. Border Agent Brian Terry and hundreds of Mexican citizens resulting from the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Fast and Furious gun-running scandal. MSNBC stopped inviting Conservative author Matt Lewis to contribute on-air after the site he works for, the Daily Caller, reported about the influence George Soros funded Media Matters for America wields over that Network. “Coincidentally”, Conservative pundit Pat Buchannan was also dropped by MSNBC around that same time.

As is always the case with any non-white or non-male Republican star, the institutionalized “progressive” left media is focused on Florida Senator Marco Rubio who, being a Hispanic from a crucial swing state, poses an existential threat to the re-election of Barack Obama. Not surprisingly, openly leftist actress Eva Longoria joined in the attack by saying “Marco Rubio has been coming up with some silly stuff that we really have to sort through”.

Meanwhile, the American mainstream media remains silent after a BarackObama speech where he joked: “I went to the speaker’s home town,” referring to a trip to House Speaker John Boehner’s battleground state of Ohio, “stood under a bridge that was crumbling.” Somebody in the crowd shouted, “Let him drive on it!”

Cue the sound of crickets.

This is the same press that had a field day back in 2008 when, on one or two occasions, a few folks attending McCain/Palin rallies shouted ugly comments from the crowd. These incidents were reported as major, top of the broadcast, front-page news. Repeatedly, with frequency and vigor.

During nationwide May Day demonstrations by OWS, occupiers themselves willing admitted that their protesters were taking marching orders from big labor and public service unions like the AFL-CIO and SEIU.

One of the leaders of the Occupy Cleveland movement, Brandon Baxter, was arrested for a terrorist plot to bomb a bridge in Cleveland Ohio. The plot has been directly linked to the Occupy movement. The names and the official complaint have been confirmed.

There were multiple incidences of violence around the country, with occupiers shouting the likes of “Pigs Go Home” and “Down with Capitalism”. With tear gas in Oakland, violence and vandalism in Seattle, SEIU members disrupting Los Angeles International Airport, with Occupiers calling themselves anarchists and hurling Molotov Cocktails; despite all evidence to the contrary, American taxpayer funded NPR is still calling the violent Occupy protests “restrained”.

By comparison, when the Tea Party was the topic de jour, Democrats and their “progressive” Party Pravda lapdogs were quick to blame the Tea Party for each and every violent incident around the country. More than one fringe leftist whack-job, impersonating responsible journalists on American television’s most irresponsible cable network, held Sarah Palin personally responsible for the Gabby Giffords shooting in Tucson Arizona. Their supposed rationale was her use of the word target when discussing campaign strategy. Never mind that in similar applications, the word “target” had been used frequently by members of the Democratic Party. Members of the institutionalized “progressive” left smear machine somehow forgot to inform the public that “target” was first used as political jargon by 1980 Democratic presidential candidate Walter Mondale’s political strategist Bob Beckel.

A review of the visitor’s log confirms that AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka and former SEIU President Andy Stern have been frequent visitors to the White House. SEIU alone spent approximately $60.7 million to help elect Barack Obama to the White House in 2008. SEIU expects a return on their investment. Barack Obama was quick to embrace the Occupy movement when he saw his poll numbers sliding.

Before this November’s elections American voters should duly note such connections.

In case you haven’t noticed, or have yet to become fully convinced, bias within the institutionalized “progressive” left media is both very real and pervasive. With the presidential general election campaign about to get into full swing, expect it to get much, much worse. Truth coming from the institutionalized “progressive” left’s smear machine is as likely as them reporting that Elizabeth Warren can’t prove she has Cherokee blood in her veins.

Rubio at CPAC: Obama’s Contraception Policy is a Constitutional Issue

The 39th annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) conference kicked off today with a prayer long enough to be listed on the program. Which is an important consideration in a conference this large. Some 6,000 conservative activists are gathered today, Friday and Saturday in Washington, DC to hear conservative speakers and attend workshops designed to prepare them for the coming election.

The agenda is so packed one must ruthlessly prune the less interesting sessions to concentrate on the more valuable, since every session has competition from other speakers and trainers.

Do I listen to Speaker of the House John Boehner (R–OH) bring the house down with a barn–burner of a speech? Or do I suffer crippling depression during a session about the massive debt that is the current and future legacy of the Obama administration?

Decisions, decisions.

Today’s speakers include Boehner, Sen. Jim DeMint (R–SC), Sen. Marco Rubio (R–FL), Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R–KY) and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R–MN).

DeMint began with a spirited defense of playing to win. Compromise, according to the senator, is fine when both parties have shared goals; as in a marriage. But compromise does not work when the two parties have opposing goals.

Democrats want to spend regardless of how much it adds to the debt. Conservatives want to cut spending. Any compromise you make with spenders always involves more spending. It’s like an alcoholic compromising with his wife by agreeing to drink Ancient Age instead of Maker’s Mark. He’s still passed out on the sofa at the end of the evening.

DeMint contends that with the current makeup of Congress, Republican conservatives have no shared goals with Democrats.
His solution is more conservatives in Congress, but particularly in the Senate, which is currently a mortuary for conservative legislation.

So far no sighting of the herd of Occupy parasites that boasted about occupying CPAC, just a number of DC police cars. But the day is young. Next up is Sen. Rubio, candidate of the future.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sen. Marco Rubio was introduced as a future resident at 1600 Pennsylvania and they may have a point. He gave a good speech that was summed up in his statement, “The greatest thing we can do for the world is be America.”

Evidently, Rubio wants to start this by producing a conservative government where people are comfortable cleaning out their garages and making enough room to start a new business, rather than using it to store a stockpile of bottled water and freeze–dried food for the apocalypse.

Rubio’s conservatism includes tax reform, sensible regulations and an emphasis on the Constitution of the US rather than that of South Africa. He stressed that the current controversy over Obama’s unprecedented order that forces Catholic institutions to provide birth control and abortions is not a social issue.

And I agree. Making it a social issue makes it “divisive” and part of the “abortion controversy,” that makes it intractable and beyond solving. Rubio points out the obvious and demonstrates the unprecedented order is a Constitutional issue and imminently solvable, if you follow the plain language of the Constitution.

Rubio also pointed out that any candidate who is in favor of leaving Medicare alone, is a candidate who is in favor of bankrupting Medicare.

Rubio’s introduction stressed his personal life and how he lives family values, so it is probably for the best that Newt Gingrich speaks on Friday.

+++++++++++++++++++

Gov. Rick Perry (R–TX) was scheduled for Thursday afternoon, but I was planning to miss his speech. What could he possibly say that was relevant?

I made a mistake with the Gingrich endorsement. I knew he had two wives but couldn’t remember the third? Oops.
But when I wandered into the media center there had been a schedule change and Perry was onstage. In retrospect it was instructive.

Rick Perry is actually a more dynamic speaker than Marco Rubio. He seems bigger on stage when he’s by himself and not surrounded by the competition. Instead of looking like the guest of honor for a firing squad, Perry is obviously large and in charge.

In a set–piece speech he is very good. The governor is relaxed, connects with his audience and doesn’t step on his applause lines. His speech was also more Evangelical than Rubio’s.

I don’t recall Perry setting any records for intentional humor on the campaign trail — although his accidental humor will live forever on YouTube —here Perry was funny.

One of his best referred to the Clint Eastwood “halftime in America” commercial. Perry felt that if it’s half time in America, he’s afraid of what’s going to happen if we don’t change coaches.

Too bad the sound track was the whistle of his Presidential train leaving the station….

Senator Rubio Rips Pork-Laden Omnibus Bill

Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fl) voted against H.R. 2055, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2012, which passed the U.S. Senate on Saturday, Dec. 18th, 2011 in an attempt to avoid a government shutdown once again. The last minute deal was necessary due to the gridlock in the U.S. Senate where Majority Leader Harry Reid has refused to allow votes on the numerous spending bills sitting on his desk for months. Senator Rubio joins Senator John McCain who took to the Senate floor to voice his strong objections as to how this bill was rammed through without following proper authorizations procedures. Senator Rubio released the following statement explaining why he voted against H.R. 2055:

“This massive 1,200-plus page bill represents everything that is wrong with Washington. Our country faces major economic challenges, but Congress wasted the whole year stuck in partisan gridlock only to pass a funding bill that solves none of our problems, just to avoid a government shutdown. This plan spends too much, wastes precious taxpayer dollars to fund a menu of job-killing regulations, anti-life provisions and earmarks, and has been ushered through Congress in a highly secretive and non-transparent manner that didn’t allow for consideration of even a single amendment. I cannot support it.”

In the following Marco Rubio constituent mailbox video we see just how fed up Americans truly are with the current state of DC and the big government debt-spending that continues unabated.

Almost all House Republican measures to reign in spending that were included in H.R. 2055 as it passed through the House were somehow craved out by the Senate. The Senate did leave the Republican light bulb ban stoppage measure in the final bill. Senator Jim DeMint came out with a scathing letter about just what has transipred in the U.S. senate once again, titled, A Shameful End to the Year.In it we see the following truths exposed:

The hard choice Democrats have given Republicans has paid off for the big-spenders again.

Refusing to work together to cut spending, Democrats demanded that Republicans compromise with them to increase spending, or shut down the government.

As a result, Congress rammed through a 1,000-page, trillion-dollar omnibus spending bill that lumped 9 different appropriations bills in a single package at the very last minute rather than debating, amending, and voting on these bills in a transparent manner.

As was reported here, this last-minute spending spree to supposedly avoid a government shut-down is beng done by design by Senate Democrats, and Senator Jim DeMint appears to agree with that assessment:

It’s become a cynical yearly tradition in Washington to delay the big-spending votes until just before Christmas. After all, it’s how Democrats in the Senate passed ObamaCare. Members of Congress are now hurrying home after the vote without much talk, but it should not be forgotten. It represents a shameful end to a year that began with many bold assurances.

Conservatives must win a majority in the U.S. Senate in the 2012 elections if we are ever to reverse the course of big government debt-spending that threatens to throw America off of the debt-cliff she is standing on the edge of. It is blatantly obvious that Democrats refuse to curb their debt-spending addiction, to the detriment of our great nation.

John Dummett and Liberty Legal vs. “Conservative” Media and Politicians

World Net Daily has just published a story involving John Albert Dummett and his quest to have Barack Obama declared ineligible to serve as President of the United States of America.  The suit centers around the “natural born citizen” status requirement as stated in the Constitution, the Naturalization Act of 1790, and an 1875 Supreme Court decision, Minor vs. Happersett (88 US 162).  This link will take you to the story for all of the details:.

John has teamed up with the Liberty Legal Foundation in this effort to remove what I see as one of the most insidious attempts to subvert the Constitution in this nation’s 235 year history.  The article points out that John has been given standing to sue by the 9th Circuit Court, the most liberal in the nation.  If that bastion of liberal thinking agrees with John there must be something to the case.  Where there is smoke there is fire and this fire is hot.

It has long been known that Obama is not eligible but was certified by Nancy Pelosi and other federal and state officials in what this writer sees as a totally unlawful and treasonous disregard for the Constitution of the United States of America and We the People.  The long form birth certificate issued by the White House is such a poor forgery that I can see it and I am not a computer forensics expert.

If the title of this article surprises you I can explain.  I expect the Democrats, especially the far left like Obama, Pelosi, and their ilk, along with the lame stream media, to ridicule and criticize this action.  That can be expected by anyone with ability to reason.  However, it is surprising to me how many “conservative” politicians and pundits dismiss this case, and those cases leading up to this one as nonsense.

I was listening to the Neal Boortz radio show this morning and heard sit-in host Eric Erickson ridiculing anyone who agreed with the ineligibility position and calling us all “nut cases”.  He went on a long diatribe describing “native born citizen” and attributed the parameters he stated to “natural born citizen”.  There is a great deal of confusion about this although I don’t know why.  I don’t have a college education and I understand the parameters just fine.

Other “conservative” media pundits, including Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity, have dismissed the “birther” stand as nonsense also.  Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Ala), a 15 year member of the United States Senate, also dismissed the eligibility question stating that the State Department said Obama was eligible and the Constitution has nothing to do with eligibility to run for president.  HUH??? Apparently Sen. Sessions, in addition to not reading legislation passing his way, has also not read or does not understand the Constitution he swore an oath to uphold and defend. That problem seems to be rampant in both parties in Washington.

My question is: Why do they dismiss this so off-handedly?  I can’t begin to imagine how so many “conservative” pundits and politicians can dismiss a decision against Obama by an extremely liberal circuit court.  This decision could not only prevent Obama from running again, it could lead to everything he has signed being nullified.  Obamacare gone; czars gone; Elena Kagan gone; Sonia Sotomayor gone; what is there to not like about this?  On the surface this doesn’t make one bit of sense to me.

I think, however, that I can answer the question quite easily.  It has recently come to my attention that Mitt Romney’s father was born in Mexico, thereby bringing his eligibility into question.  However, as it relates to Romney, his father’s birthplace is the least of my objections.  Mr. Erickson also brought up Marco Rubio, the heir-apparent to the Republican throne, as another person mentioned as not eligible.  I have researched Mr. Rubio and found him to be ineligible also.  I have written about the Rubio case more than once.  The sad thing is that I really like Marco Rubio and everything he stands for.  Even though I respect and admire him, and his positions, my loyalty is to the Constitution first.  I have also looked into Bobby Jindal, another man I admire very much, but guess what.

The question here is: Do we follow the Constitution when it is convenient or do we live by its tenets completely?  I understand that the politicians have strayed far from the original letter and intent of the document and find it easier to do what is in their best interests rather than follow what our founding fathers laid down as the guideposts for our nation.  I don’t need any further explanations about what is wrong with America today.  We the People do not matter, power matters.  Both parties fight over who will control government with no regard for the people they are supposed to be SERVING.

Both parties have taken young Muslim men who can’t count to ten with both hands in front of them, set them up with fake bombs and targets, and then arrested them in the name of “Homeland Security”.  I think they call that entrapment!!  Officials hail themselves as doing a wonderful job protecting our homeland but are they?  Not in my book.  They break their arms patting themselves on the back for playing poor idiots as patsies.  The only two attacks I know about that weren’t planned by federal agents, the shoe bomber and the underwear bomber, were thwarted by private citizens alert to something amiss and the incompetence of the would-be attackers.

This isn’t only about Barack Obama; it is about politics and the corruption that permeates every pore of it.  This is about We the People once again gaining control of our future and restoring America as the “shining city on a hill” described by John Winthrop in the 1700’s.  It is about honor, integrity, and the rule of law.  It is about following the blueprint given to us by those who fought valiantly and defeated the strongest nation in the world at the time.

The Solyndra scandal is not the sole property of the Democrat Party.  Under Republican rule we had Enron, questionable money going to Halliburton, and on and on. Political corruption and vote buying has been a part of Washington as long as I have been around and I date back to the middle of the last century (1950).  Cronyism has long been the font of the ruling class, making sure those who give money to politicians of either party get their money back with interest.

Our forefathers, the men who wrote two of the greatest documents ever written, pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to establish the United States of America.  Generations of men and women have fought and died to preserve this nation.  We have strayed so far from what they established with the help of Divine Providence, that they would not recognize this nation today.

John Dummett is a common man, not a politician, not a wealthy wanta-be looking for a title to make him a legend in his own mind as most of the ruling class tends to be.  His desire is to live by the Constitution and bring this country back to its design.  I support him, as do many other “commoners”, the “country class” of America.  We have been ruled by the Ivy League know-it-alls for much too long.  Our nation has turned into a quagmire of evil, increasing poverty, class envy, and divisiveness by those who seek to rule rather than govern.  Both parties enrich their friends while promising We the People the moon.  You know the old saying, “divide and conquer”.

The goal of John Albert Dummett, Liberty Legal Foundation, and many common American citizens is to restore our nation to what it was designed to be, government OF the People, BY the People, and FOR the People.  God and our founding fathers gave us a wonderful way of life, full of freedom, full of liberty, full of promise, and what have we done with it?

It is up to We the People to take our country back.  Unfortunately we will have to fight a war on two fronts.  We have to fight the liberals, George Soros, and the “Occupy Wall Street” morons who aren’t smart enough to put two sentences together, as well as the so-called conservative media and politicians who do not want to give up their gravy train to those of us “too stupid to know what is good for us”.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the ruling elites are all around us.  They are found on both sides of the political aisle and until we get enough common people into office to blunt their agenda we are in danger of dictatorship and slavery.  Remember, it was George W. Bush and a Republican Congress that gave us the Patriot Act, a misnamed law if I ever saw one.  In the name of protecting us they turned the noose of slavery one notch tighter.

John Dummett and the Liberty Legal Foundation are working for us, the common citizen of all colors, all economic categories, and all ethnic groups.  They are trying to restore We the people as the arbiters of freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  We need to support them.

I submit this in the name of the Most Holy Trinity, in faith, with the responsibility given to me by Almighty God to honor His work and not let it die from neglect.

Sen. Marco Rubio on U.S. Troop Withdrawal From Iraq

President Obama recently announced that all U.S. Troops will be coming home from Iraq in time for Christmas this year. What a wonderful holiday gift for the thousands of families and loved ones who have endured the hardships of having a relative/spouse/mother/father/ brother/sister facing the perils of war in Iraq. In President Obama’s statement about the troops coming home from Iraq, he said:

“I can report that, as promised, the rest of our troops in Iraq will come home by the end of the year,” Obama said. “After nearly nine years, America’s war in Iraq will be over.”

As many have reported, President Obama did not, however state the actual reason for the troops coming home and instead chose to promote this as a “promise kept.”  The real reason for the complete troop withdrawal is found in the fact that the Iraqi interim government refused to allow thousands of U.S troops to remain in Iraq beyond 2011 during intense negotiations over a period of several months. There is another fact that the President “forgot to mention” and that is the fact that all troops were mandated to withdraw from Iraq by the end of 2011 in the original agreement struck between the two countries under President G.W. Bush back in 2008. The Iraqi interim government decided to abide with that agreement instead of  allowing several thousand U.S. troops to remain in Iraq, as requested by the Obama administration.   Does anyone remember that, back in August of 2010,  President Obama made the following statement?

Over the next two months our troops in Iraq, tens of thousands of them, will pack up their gear and board convoys for the journey home,” Obama said. “The last American soldier will cross the border out of Iraq with their heads held high, proud of their success and knowing that the American people stand united in our support for our troops.”  That statement was made  well over a year ago.

Senator Marco Rubio replied to the President’s speech in a strongly worded fact-filled statement:

Marco Rubio released a statement following President Obama’s announcement that all U.S. troops would be withdrawn from Iraq by the year’s end. Read an excerpt below and the full statement here .

The surge in Iraq ordered by President Bush and implemented by General David Petraeus, which began in 2007 over the objections of nearly every elected Democrat including then-Senators Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, brought security and stability to Iraq.  This success enabled the Iraqi government to focus on training and equipping their own forces so that they could take the lead in providing the security for their own country.  The competence, bravery and sacrifices made on the part of the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces working with their Iraqi partners have enabled this transition.”

Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton and nearly every other Democrat in Congress in 2007, during the debate about the surge in Iraq ordered by the President of the United States at the time, G.W. Bush… now want to somehow take credit for it’s success and the G.W. Bush-signed complete U.S. troop withdrawal agreement from Iraq that is now currently under way. This should be celebrated as a victory for the Iraqi people, and a joyous time for family reunions for the people who will see their loved ones finally home safe and sound, not a political reelection tool.

Welcome home to our brave troops and we are sincerely grateful to their families and loved ones! We thank you for your loyal service and dedication to America.

Ousted Florida GOP Chair Exposes Big Names in Corruption Scandal

Former Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer is in a world of hurt lately as an Orlando judge refused to throw out his various corruption charges on Aug. 25th, including six felony fraud and money laundering charges, along with an additional four counts of grand theft. Greer was arrested in June of 2010 after being forced out of his chairmanship in January. While Greer was shown crying in recent interview, it now appears that he is not going down without exposing big name Florida politicians who knew of his actions at the time, and chose not to speak out. Jim Greer is pictured below ( center) with Charlie Crist( left).

This episode in political corruption reads like a poorly written wanna-be bumbling gangster comedy…. yet it is anything but funny to witness the amount of corruption and cover-up that abounds in this disgraceful event in Florida politics. Jim Greer was the Chairman of the RPOF when he created a fake fundraising company, Victory Strategies LLC, that accepted about $125 grand from the RPOF, which Greer then apparently used for his own personal expenses. And that appears to be merely the start of Mr. Greers problems. Mr. Greer also violated federal campaign finance laws when he worked on ex-Governor Charlie Crist’s 2012 Senate campaign, in which he Florida GOP party resources on that federal campaign. Yes Jim Greer and Charlie Crist were pretty tight political buddies during Greer’s time as the Chairman of the Florida GOP. Crist appointed Greer to head the RPOF on the advice of current Senator George LeMieux whom was his chief of staff at the time. Charlie Crist also appointed George LeMieux to sit in his current U.S. Senate seat after Mel Martinez abruptly resigned. George LeMieux currently thinks the people of Florida will ignore all of his involvement in this scandal among other things, and elect him to the U.S. Senate in 2012, which I happen to have written about here.

Although Rubio is a Roman Catholic, he belongs to the Christ Fellowship Nondenominational Church, leading some to believe that he is truly Protestant. About his faith, Rubio has said “For those who have the Christian faith and are in politics, there is a constant struggle between a desire to do what is right and how that sometimes may not coincide with what is popular,” he said. “I hope that, more often than not, I make the right choice.”

Education

After beginning his college education with Tarkio College in Missouri on a football scholarship, Rubio transferred to Santa Fe Community College. In 1993, he graduated with a bachelor of science from the University of Florida. He earned his juris doctor in 1996, graduating cum laude from the University of Miami.

Political Start

Rubio served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2000-1008. While there, his roles included Majority Whip, Majority Leader and Speaker of the House. His agenda was one of lower taxes, better schools, a smaller more efficient government and free market empowerment.

Political Career

Before becoming speaker, Rubio traveled around the state for 2 years hosting “Idearaisers” to hear from his consitutents on ways to make Florida better. This resulted in the book “100 Innovative Ideas for Florida’s Future,” on which he based his term. All 100 ideas were passed by the Florida House, and 57 became law. Newt Gingrich called this “a work of genius.”

Rubio has worked to develop a public school curriculum that would match the best in the world, increase performance-based accountability, allow for greater school choice and target factors which affect academic underperformance.

In 2010, Rubio was elected US Senator for Florida. He sits on the following committees:

  • Committee on commerce, science and transportation
  • Committee on Foreign Relations
  • Select Committee on Intelligence
  • Committee on Small business and entrepreneurship

Private Sector Career

After his time as Speaker, Rubio returned to practicing law. He also acted as a visiting professor at Florida International University, was Florida Chairman of GOPAC and a political analyst for Univision.

Senator Marco Rubio’s Weekly Newsletter

Marco Rubio - U.S. Senator for Florida E-Newsletter
Fighting for Floridians this week, Marco worked in the Senate toward solutions to our $14 trillion debt crisis and $1.6 trillion budget deficit. Early in the week, he spoke out forcefully against short-term “quick fixes” to the spending bills, and insisted that Congress finally pass a long-term budget plan, something they have refused to do for over a year. See below for more details on these and other issues facing Florida.

Marco Rubio Votes Against The Short-Term Budget Plan

On Thursday, the Senate voted on yet another short-term budget plan to fund the government for another three weeks. But long before Thursday’s vote, Marco came out against this piecemeal approach and insisted that Congress pass a budget for the remainder of the year—something Democrats refused to do when they controlled the House, Senate and White House. Click here to read Marco’s op-ed that ran in RedState, “No More Budget Games.” and see below for Marco’s video response:

weeklyvid

Marco’s refusal to be a part of the Senate’s “absurd political theatre” caught the attention of his colleagues and many conservative leaders. On Sean Hannity’s radio show, Marco noted that by skirting our budget and debt issues, we’re hurting our own economy’s recovery and ability to create jobs. Check out the links below for more audio/video clips of Marco this week:

Focus On Cutting Spending…

In a sign of how important the debt crisis is, Marco voted on Monday against proceeding with any legislation that does not seriously address the $14 trillion debt and our government’s over-spending problem. “Until the Senate gets serious about this problem, I will continue standing with my colleagues and blocking any new legislation that fails to directly address this crisis in a meaningful way,” Marco said. Click here to read the full statement.

Keeping with that sentiment, Marco offered two amendments this week aimed at reining in out-of-control Environmental Protection Agency regulations and reducing government spending. Click here for the amendment details, and see below for an excerpt of Marco’s remarks:

“Last year, when they were in charge, the Democrat leadership refused to pass a budget. Now our government is operating on temporary proposals and we face a serious debt crisis. Yet we still have no serious plan from the Senate Democrat leadership. And the President is completely missing in action,” said Senator Rubio. “It is time to stop funding excessive regulations that will put Floridians out of work. And our government needs to stop spending money it does not have.”

Marco & Sen. John McCain Propose The “Debt Buy Down Act”

On Tuesday, Marco, along with Senate colleague John McCain (R-Ariz.), introduced the Debt Buy-Down Act of 2011. This bill would require the IRS to include a check-off box on tax forms that would give taxpayers the opportunity to designate up to 10 percent of their tax liability be used to pay down the debt. The bill doesn’t ask citizens to give up a portion of their return, rather it simply designates a portion of their taxes be used for this specific purpose. This legislation gives you the power to confront the debt crisis yourself—an innovative solution that empowers the taxpayer to deal with issues that Washington politicians won’t address.

In 2010, Marco proposed this very idea in his “12 Simple Ways To Cut Spending In Washington.” Marco is committed to making his “Ideas To Reclaim America” a reality, and this is yet another step in that direction.

Senators Call On President Obama To Demonstrate Leadership

Marco, along with 22 other Republicans on Wednesday, called on President Obama to be more engaged in the major, generational issues being debated in Congress right now. The letter, spearheaded by Sen. Dan Coats (R-Ind.), notes that mandatory spending programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are expected to double over the next 10 years. “In order to ensure the long-term viability of these programs, it is imperative that you lead a bipartisan effort to address these challenges,” the Senators wrote to President Obama.

Marco Presses Obama Administration For Libya Stance

During a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing yesterday, Marco questioned William Burns, Under Secretary for Political Affairs at the State Department, about the Administration’s position on the events taking place in Libya. Check out this video of the back-and-forth, and see below for an excerpt of the exchange:

“The United States, quite frankly, looks weak in this endeavor, it looks unwilling to act,” [Rubio] said at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Thursday, highlighting that Britain, France, the Arab League, and the Libyan opposition are all calling on the United States to support stronger measures to stop Libyan leader Col. Muammar al-Qaddafi’s assault on rebels and civilians.

“The president has specifically said that Qaddafi must go but has done nothing since then except for having general debates about it for a week and a half or two,” Rubio said. “Congressional leadership has strongly called for a no-fly zone and nothing has happened.”

Florida News Reports 3/17/2011

There is a lot happening on the Florida political scene this week, so I decided to draw up a summary news recap to keep our Florida readers informed today. First off, it appears Governor Rick Scott’s new policies are starting to gain definition and traction in the Florida State legislature. On Weds. March 16th, Governor Scott thanked Florida legislators for passing Senate bill 736, the Student Success Act. After passage of the act, Senate President Mike Haridopolos released the following statement on the House passing Senate Bill 736 – the Student Success Act:

“Today is an historic day with the House of Representatives passage of the Student Success Act. The legislation is a keystone in Florida’s efforts to provide quality education in our classrooms.  While the legislation rewards outstanding teachers and reforms the state’s instructional workforce, the real winners are Florida’s students.”

“The bill (SB 736), which ties public school teacher evaluations and pay raises to student performance on standardized tests, passed the House, 80-39, Wednesday along party lines with Republicans in favor. The measure had passed the Republican-dominated Senate, and now speeds to Gov. Rick Scott’s desk. Scott has said he will sign it into law.”

This is great news for all Floridans and their children. In related news, The Florida Education Association is thinking about filing a lawsuit to try to stop the bill.  So much for actually caring about the children, they would rather line their pockets further with tax dollars going for ineffective teachers, right FEA ?  Maybe it is high time parents called for the disbanding of the FEA, if they go forward with that nonsensical lawsuit.

Governor Scott has already signed several executive orders since taking office, including the following:

Executive Order No. 11-01 freezes all new regulations and establishes the Office of Fiscal Accountability and Regulatory Reform, which will review all rules prior to promulgation as well as agency practices and contracts.

  • Immediately suspends rule-making for all agencies under the direction of the Governor.
  • Establishes the Office of Fiscal Accountability and Regulatory Reform to review all rules (including those suspended by the Order) prior to promulgation and to review agency practices and contracts.
  • Imposes 90-day suspension on execution of any contracts with a value in excess of $1 million, without prior approval from the Office.
  • Prohibits agencies from promulgating rules unless they obtain prior approval from the Office.

Executive Order No. 11-02 requires state agencies to use the E-Verify system verify employment eligibility of state employees and contractors.

  • All state agencies under the direction of the Governor must use E-Verify system to check employment eligibility of their current and prospective employees.
  • Requires state agencies under the direction of the Governor to include in all state contracts a requirement that contractors utilize the E-Verify system to verify the employment eligibility of:
    • all persons employed during the contract term by the contractor to perform employment duties within Florida; and
    • all persons (including subcontractors) assigned by the contractor to perform work pursuant to the contract with the state agency. Executive Order No. 11-03 establishes the Governor’s policy on ethics and open government.
      • Orders the adoption and implementation of a revised, stronger, code of ethics in the Governor’s office, and directs agencies under the direction of the Governor to revise their codes of ethics accordingly.
      • Recognizes work of 19th Statewide Grand Jury and directs Governor’s Special Counsel and Chief Ethics Officer to review their Report and recommend a plan for implementation of all or certain, as advisable, of the Grand Jury Recommendations.
      • Reaffirms commitment to Office of Open Government and calls for establishment of new Web site providing access to accountability information.

Personally, I would like to see E-Verify become federally mandated acroos the entire country, in both the private sector and public sector, which is why it was created in the first place. Match SS numbers with people before hiring, renting apartments or houses, and also especially before handing out the nanny-state welfare benefits our nation is becoming famous for today. NO WIC, no welfare, no rent subsidies, no college grants, no nothing unless you prove you are am American citizen who actually deserves the help from the American taxpayer.

Executive Order No. 11-04 reaffirms the Governor’s commitment to diversity in government.

  • Reaffirms prohibition on discrimination in employment based on race, gender, creed, color, or national origin, and affirms commitment to hiring, retaining and promoting the highest quality candidates regardless of the above.
  • Reaffirms policy of non-discrimination in state contracting without regard for race, gender, creed, color, or national origin.

This one sounds like it could be used against the reverse discrimination, race based hiring practices to allow people to hire the most qualified individuals based on experience and education, which is also supposed to be a federal law, yet today we see it isn’t enforced fairly.  See Eric Holder’s mandating that the city of Dayton, Ohio lower qualifying test scores for black policemen and firefighters to be given jobs over people who actually passed the real tests. That, my friends is reverse discrimination, and there needs to be a few thousand multi-billion dollar lawsuits brought against these types of actions, to show the race-based thugs that it won’t be tolerated. Clear enough Mr. Holder?

Special congratulations go out to the citizens of Miami-Dade who voted to recall another big tax and spender, Mayor Alvarez who turned out to be another RINO who didn’t get the 2010 election message of smaller government, less taxes and more accountability. Good work by my friends across the State, and you should be very proud to be able to call yourselves true Conservatives, as you certainly earned that title here. The Shark Tank summed this lesson up quite well in this post.

Florida Moves to Stop *Creeping Sharia Law*

Florida State Senator Alan Hays and Rep. Larry Metz recently announced legislation that will protect all Floridians’ Constitutional rights against the infiltration or injection of any foreign laws or legal doctrines from other countries. While there are already many visible examples of this happening in America today, some choose to deny this reality, and the need to prevent the laws of other countries from being injected into America any further.

CAIR, or Council on American-Islamic Relations, denounces anyone who stands up for the right of Americans to live by our own laws and Constitution.

Senator Hays explains his stance and reason for proposing this legislation as this:

“I filed a bill that says in the courts of Florida the laws of no other country can be used to influence the decisions of Florida,” Hays said. “If it’s Sharia law or any other law – I don’t care what law it is – if it’s not a Florida law and if it’s some foreign law, it doesn’t belong in our courts.” (emphasis mine)

Right away, some people try to paint this as  an attack on one group or another to denounce it, such as one Mr. Nezar Hamze of South Florida chapter of CAIR, saying it is some kind of stealth attack on Muslims. CAIR is using Alisnkey-ish tactics to bully and denounce anyone standing up for American laws and culture today. An attack on Senator Hays was aided by the liberal Miami Herald in a post titled:  Lawmakers target Islamic Sharia law*. In the post, misinformation and lack of journalistic integrity are displayed throughout – a disservice to the whole State of Florida and America. Marc Caputo was busy putting the Muslim-oriented, leftist anti-American spin into the  article demonstrating the true story behind it, perhaps in a way he never intended us to see:

”   One reason Sharia isn’t mentioned in the bill is due to the U.S. Constitution’s ban on religious discrimination or favoritism. Citing the First Amendment, a federal judge recently blocked a voter-approved Oklahoma law targeting Sharia.” (emphasis mine)

A Federal Judge going against the wishes of the people who voted for this law is somehow being spun into a good thing there. Thus the danger of self-righteous appointed federal Judges sticking their noses into State law-making decisions. This new legislation will take those types of decisions out of play down here in Florida. Sen. Hays and Rep. Metz are to be commended, no matter what Mr. Hamze or the Miami Herald say about it. This is America, and if you refuse to live by American law, dont let the door hit you in the backside on the way back to your third world countries and their oppression- laden cultures.

Also found in the Herald article is Mr. Hamze looking like a foolish hypocrite when he stated the following:

“It’s absurd. I’ve never even heard of a court using Sharia law in making a ruling in a case,” Hamze said. “If it is intended to combat people’s fear of Islamic law, it does a poor job … because it does not mention Islam or Sharia but it does mention foreign law, which affects all religions, not just Islam, because you have Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Hindu laws.”

Actually, Mr. Hamze, is the fact thatyou conviently choose to ignore several problems that have already occurred in Florida courts, due  precisely to attempts of Sharia law trying to be injected into Florida. It took all of two minutes to find an example from USATODAY.com**

A Florida judge ruled Friday that a Muslim woman cannot wear a veil in her driver’s license photo, agreeing with state authorities that the practice could help terrorists conceal their identities.

By Peter Cosgrove, AP

Attempts to inject forms of Sharia law and culture into Florida laws are obvious. There is a pressing need for Senator Hays’ leglislation to stop it from infecting Florida any further. Call up Senator Hays and the rest of your Florida representatives today and tell them you support this leglislation. It is for the good of all Floridians, and Americans across the country who tire of American culture and laws being changed to suit assorted radicals like Mr. Hamze. We are no longer going to stand by and watch our country be degraded and destroyed by these types of people. Thank you again Senator Hays and Rep. Metz.

Rubio visits Afghanistan, Pakistan. Was the trip necessary?

Newly elected Senator Marco Rubio (R -FL), recently went on a trip to the war zone of the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. As you can see in the picture, it is a very inhospitable land comprised mostly of rocky mountainous regions seperated by barren desert. While it is nice to see my  Freshman Florida Senator jumping in and getting to “work” up in DC, I have to call in question the viability of these expensive trips, especially by our members of Congress. When they are flying around the world to other countries, they are not here in our Senate taking care of real business.

I was curious as to just what they accomplished, or hoped to accomplish, on this taxpayer funded trip when I saw this headline in The Miami Herald, accessed on 1/18/2011. * The article initially starts out with the announcement of his first overseas trip as a U S Senator, then goes on to give us some insight on just what they witnessed while over there :

“Finishing his first overseas trip as a U.S. senator, Marco Rubio on Monday warned the Obama administration against setting an “artificial timeline” for the United States to leave Afghanistan.”

“Everywhere we went, from the markets to the streets, to Afghan authorities . . . what we heard repeatedly is that it’s important that it’s clearly understood that the U.S. is committed to seeing this through,” Rubio told reporters in a conference call from Kabul. “Otherwise, there’s a sense that the Taliban, even al Qaeda, is just waiting for us to leave so they can move back in.”

I make the observation here, that this is the same old song and dance we have heard from other politicians for what,  5, 6, or 7, years ? So far I see zero substantial results from this trip that would justify this expense. I can see future self-grandeurizing politicians standing on the Senate floor bragging about ,  “When I was in Afghanistan,I saw this and that.”  To which I always end up asking myself, ” Just what are our U S Senators doing flying around the world for in the first place? ”  We have a State Department, a Department of Defense, the CIA, thousands of soldiers, and Military Commanders there on the ground, all writing reports on what is happening in Afghanistan.  Do we really need to have 535 politicians flying over there too ? Maybe the newly empowered, tyrannical, unelected government minions over at the EPA should look into this type of pollution, instead of clamping down on wood stoves and the like?  Do the people actually know this is going on and how much it costs the taxpayer?  The Miami Herald goes on to list just who all went on this trip:

“Rubio — who returns to Florida on Tuesday — toured U.S. operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr, and fellow Republican freshmen from Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Wisconsin. Rubio had lunch with troops from Florida stationed in Kabul and had dinner Sunday night with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. The group also met with Gen. David Petraeus and toured Kabul Military Training Center, which is training Afghans for its National Army.”

A total of six politicians flying around the world, including four new freshmen Senators. That is very expensive people. Am I asking too much to think these freshmen Senators would better serve the people by digging in and getting to work learning the ropes in the Senate? Senate Minority Leader McConnell should be ashamed of himself for these kind of nonsensical expenditures, especially at a critical time when there are major issues we need to address here at home. I,m also disapointed in my Senator Rubio in agreeing to go on this trip. What part of cutting Government waste do these “representatives” not understand?  Ground all politicians, make them stay here and take care of the business they were elected to do!
