According to a new poll, Mitt Romney is gaining with Hispanic Voters.

“This week’s impreMedia-Latino Decisions tracking poll found slight gains for presidential candidate Mitt Romney in battleground states with 33% certain to or thinking about voting for him,” Latino Decisions reports.

(AP)

Even though 33 percent is a weaker showing compared to Obama’s per Hispanics, it is a much better number than in previous weeks and months.”Just before the beginning of the Republican National Convention in Tampa presidential candidate Mitt Romney continues to overwhelmingly lose the Latino vote and has low levels of favorability among the majority of the Latino electorate. The first weekly tracking poll of Latino registered voters by Latino Decisions and impreMedia reveals that 65% would vote to re-elect President Barack Obama and 26% would prefer the Republican alternative offered by Romney,” Latino Decisions reported on August 27.

However, even as the polls show that Romney is gaining among Hispanics, he still falls well short of Obama.

“Fifty-one percent of Latino voters in ten battleground states said they trust Obama and the Democrats more to make the right decisions and improve economic conditions, compared to 27% for Romney and Republicans. When combined with voters in non-battleground states, the numbers jumped to 72% and 20% respectively, a significant increase from 4 weeks ago when overall 59% said they trusted Obama and Democrats more versus 30% for Romney and Republicans to fix the economy,” Latino Decisions reports on the new poll.

WASHINGTON, May 15, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ – Education ranks behind only the economy and jobs as the most important consideration among likely Latino voters in five battleground states, according to a survey released today by the American Federation for Children (AFC) and the Hispanic Council for Reform and Educational Options (HCREO).

The poll results revealed that improving K-12 education—and not issues related to immigration—is the second-most important issue in the minds of Latino respondents, and education ranks in a near-statistical tie as the second most important issue among all likely voters.

Voters in five states—Arizona, Florida, New Mexico, New Jersey, and Nevada—were surveyed by the Democratic-leaning polling firm Beck Research on a host of education and other issues that will prove critical to deciding the 2012 presidential election. A majority (58 percent) of Latinos surveyed expressed a desire to hear more from both presidential campaigns on how the candidates will improve education, and large proportions of respondents also voiced strong support for a host of private school choice initiatives, including vouchers, scholarship tax credit programs, education savings accounts, and special needs scholarship programs.

“The support for making education a fundamental part of the campaign discourse over the next six months is remarkably strong across demographic, geographic, and ideological lines,” said Kevin P. Chavous, a senior advisor to the American Federation for Children. “The message to the candidates is clear: expanding educational options for parents, and education reform generally, should be a priority in 2012. It not only makes good political sense, but it’s the right thing to do, too.”

A total of 85 percent of voters and 91 percent of Latinos think vouchers and scholarship tax credit programs should be available in some form, while majorities of likely voters and Latinos also support specific school choice proposals as well. Support is especially high for special needs scholarship programs, which are favored by 74 percent of voters and an astounding 80 percent of Latino voters.

Latino respondents particularly supported arguments in favor of school choice because of the immediate help it provides to children from low-income families, and their positive effect on graduation rates, academic achievement, and parental satisfaction.

“No voting bloc is more important to this election than Latinos, and it’s clear that education is among the most important issues,” said Julio Fuentes, president and CEO of HCREO. “Latino families want their children to have a chance to prosper, and that opportunity best exists through access to a quality education.”

In a campaign season dominated by talk of the economy, more than half (53 percent) of Latino voters also cited education as central to improving our country’s economic situation.

The Beck Research survey interviewed a total of 1,050 likely November voters, including an oversample of 300 Latinos. The poll’s margin of error is +/- 3.6 percent.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ – The Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, a leading voice for Latinos, today called on the House of Representatives to pass HR 3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, sponsored by Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ), which creates a government-wide statutory prohibition on abortion funding. The bill would ensure that no federal funds pay for abortion in the U.S., and also prohibits federal funds from being used to promote and perform abortions overseas as a form of family planning.

“It’s time for the federal government to stop aiding and abetting abortion practitioners who are targeting our communities to kill our children. Twenty-two percent of abortions in the U.S. are performed on Hispanic women, and they are 2.7 times more likely to have an abortion than non-Hispanic white women,” saidAlfonso Aguilar, Executive Director of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles. ”Motivated by their warped eugenic views, Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers are clearly going after racial and ethnic minorities in the country.

“Latino voters need to be educated about the efforts of many in Congress and of the Obama Administration to continue allowing this inhumane attack on our community. Liberals have been able to hide this from Latinos for many years because they know the majority of Hispanics are pro-life. We’re going to put a stop to that.

“It’s important to note also that one of President Obama’s first acts when taking office in 2009 was to rescind President Bush’s Executive Order that prohibited federal funding of organizations that promote abortion abroad. Now, taxpayer money can be used to fund groups that promote abortion as a family planning method, even in developing countries where abortion is illegal. If Latinos, of which 40 percent of them are foreign-born, were to find out that this Administration is helping to actively promote abortion in their home countries, including Mexico, they would be outraged.”

In responding to the Latinos for Reform “Don’t Vote” ad campaign, President Obama said, “It is a cynical political ploy…” In reality, it is cynical that the President — then Candidate Obama — promised comprehensive immigration reform to 12 million vulnerable people within one year and, not only failed to act on that promise, he responded by increasing deportations.

Today, Latinos for Reform released its second ad. We are urging Latinos to be counted by casting their votes for Governor, Mayor, school board, etc. — but not for candidates who ignore you once they get to Washington — on Election Day. We hope that this clears up any confusion and allows candidates, the media and the Latino electorate to focus on the important issue of comprehensive immigration reform. (www.LatinosForReform.com)

According to LFR President Robert Deposada, “It is ironic that Harry Reid responded to the ads by asking, ‘Can you really think of anything less patriotic or more offensive than telling people not to vote?’ Reid and his people then pressured Univision — which has a virtual monopoly on Spanish language media in the U.S. — to pull the ad.”

Deposada continues, “Instead of defending his record, Harry Reid used his political influence to censor the political debate. It is sad that the political establishment is, once again, treating Latinos like we should just sit down and keep our mouths shut — until it is time for us to obediently and blindly vote for them.

“Let’s not forget that, for two years, Harry Reid has done nothing but sabotage even the smallest reform efforts. His excuse about immigration reform needing to be bipartisan is in sharp contrast with his unilateral approach on all of the other issues that were his real priorities.

“As a Latino, voting for Harry Reid or Sharron Angle is like choosing between getting stabbed in the back or getting clubbed in the head. We are asking Latinos to choose ‘None of the above.’ A vote for any of these two candidates is equal to or worse than not voting at all. The act of abstaining in this specific legislative contest is itself a vote.”

Latinos for Reform today announced a national campaign to get Latino voters to .. not vote.

Latinos for Reform announced today the launch of a national ad campaign in targeted states urging Latino voters not to vote for Members of Congress that have failed to deliver on their immigration reform promises. The ads, in both English and Spanish, are available at www.LatinosForReform.com.

The 2010 election boycott is in response to the failure of the Democrat Congress and President to give them the immigration reform they were promised.

During the 2008 elections, President Obama and the Democratic leadership made a commitment that immigration reform would be passed within a year. Two years later, these lawmakers have not only failed to deliver on this promise; they intentionally undermined even the smallest of reform efforts .. This November we can send a message to all politicians: If they didn’t keep their promise on immigration reform, then they can’t count on our vote.”

Latino voters make up a huge portion of the Democrat voting block. If this campaign is successful, it could even further increase the size of the Republican tsunami as some have labelled it. This call could have serious implications on highly-publicized elections such as the Reid-Angle Arizona Senate race and the Whitman-Brown California governors race. Both campaigns will be hugely impacted by the Latino vote (or lack thereof).

Latinos for Reform tries to make the case that their anger is against both parties, but this ad campaign will most hurt Democrats. We often hurt the ones we love.
