House GOP Doesn’t Listen Any Better than Walmart

New GOPOccasionally the wrong person takes a column to heart.

Earlier this month I wrote that Walmart doesn’t help its PR efforts when the company acts in a manner that only serves to reinforce its reputation as the Simon Legree of retail. (Details here.) In this instance an Ohio store had a display in the employee break room asking for donations to help other Walmart employees that had fallen on hard times during the Thanksgiving & Christmas season.

Asking employees who earn an average of $12.83/hour to contribute to other employees is a touching testimony to the innate decency of the Walmart workforce, but it also calls up unfortunate images of the widow’s mite particularly in comparison with the wealth of the Walton family.

The column concluded with a look at Walmart’s Associates in Critical Need Trust. This is a fund that dispenses up to $1,500 to employees suffering severe financial setbacks. (This does not include a bad losing streak in connection with the Powerball lottery.)

I liked the sound of that, until I learned that once again these donations are no skin off the Walton family’s stock certificates. This trust is funded by voluntary payroll deduction, again from the $12.83/hour employees.

And that’s when problems began at the Shannon household.

My wife announced that unless the Walton family stops being so selfish (they have $144 billion in Walmart stock) and makes a major contribution to the Trust we will be boycotting Walmart. Generally I have no problem with boycotts. It’s an individual decision that uses the market to bring pressure on a merchant. No government intervention required. Colonists did it during the run up to the Revolution.

For taste and political reasons, I never darken the door of Starbucks (homosexual marriage is “part of the corporate DNA”), Caribou Coffee (Sharia–compliant finance) or Chipotle (one of the nation’s leading employers of illegals).

On the other hand I’m also cheap, so I regularly shop at Walmart, in spite of linguistic encounters with Walmart employees that graphically illustrate what retail shopping is going to be like after John Boehner decides it’s safe to grant illegals amnesty.

The wife says Target is going to be the windfall beneficiary of Shannon shopping dollars in the future. But I have mixed emotions regarding that store, too. All too often in the Sunday advertising circular the clothes younger models wear contribute to the sexualization of tweenaged shoppers. Young girls are hard enough to shop for without major retailers urging them to dress like pint–sized Kim Kardashians.

This is not a problem encountered when viewing the frumpy models in a Walmart catalog. I don’t know for certain whom it is wearing those dowdy clothes, but most of them appear to be related to Fred and Ethel Mertz. Regardless of age there are no sex symbols in a Walmart catalog.

Besides the Target food section is mostly full of do–it–yourself yogurt mixes and it is about one third the size of Walmart’s. (Although, credit where credit is due, Target does carry Malt–O–Meal.) I do hate sneaking around behind my wife’s back. The fact that my future secret assignations are with a major retail chain and not a hoochie mama is probably a commentary on the dullness of my existence, but I plan to continue to visit Walmart.

On the other hand I won’t be visiting Republican members of the Virginia House delegation. Last week I wrote about the shameful Boehner/Ryan sellout they tried to spin as a “budget deal.” (Details here.) This capitulation raises taxes (fees), increases spending and negates the sequester.

Ryan is so proud of himself. The good congressman says he’s increased Pentagon spending by $2 billion, which means all the Coffee Colonels there can go back to using the Keurig instead of making do with Nescafe. In return for all this bounty Ryan agreed to let the Democrats increase their spending by $22 billion! That’s an 11 to 1 ratio and we’re on the short side.

GOP apologists talk about future spending cuts contained in the deal, but with these big spenders the cuts always remain in the future, just over the horizon, like a mirage.

You can’t bind a future Congress to a deal made today. Heck this Congress can’t even bind itself. Who do you think negotiated the original sequester?

Now Boehner is flush with positive MSM coverage and has declared war on the TEA party. He’s tired of having Obama hand him his hat, so the great strategist turns on his base. Now maybe Karl Rove will return his phone calls.

At times like this the favorite criticism of the TEA party centers on Senate candidates. The TEA party supported candidates that lost and that cost Republicans the Senate.

Establishment Republicans never foist a loser on the electorate. Just look at the great work being done by President Romney and Senator George Allen. Not to mention that paragon of tanning, Senator Charlie Crist from Florida. All these worthies are (or were, Crist became a Democrat this year) establishment Republicans with the full support of party elders.

The TEA party is not a monolithic closed structure resistant to outside ideas — wait that sounds like Boehner’s cabal — it’s a loosely affiliated collection of like–minded conservatives and tin foil distributors. (Just kidding.)

There is no national body that selects candidates. Local groups support local candidates.

The TEA party–backed candidate lost in Missouri because establishment Republicans in that state utilize a primary system that doesn’t have a runoff if no one gets 50 percent of the vote. That’s how Todd Akin becomes your nominee with fewer than 35 percent of the vote. Akin and his gynecological theories could have never won a runoff. The TEA party candidate would not have survived the primary if Missouri Republicans ran the party like Texas Republicans.

In Delaware, Christine O’Donnell was simply mislabeled. She would have had no problem winning as a Democrat. If Patty Murray of budget deal negotiating fame can win her first race running as “a mom in tennis shoes,” O’Donnell would have had few problems as “a mom who’s not a witch.”

Country club Republicans conveniently overlook the fact that TEA party energy is responsible for Boehner sitting in the Speaker’s chair today.

This wretched budget deal has now passed the Senate where Republicans with primary opponents voted against it as a sop to people like you and me. There was never a doubt as to House passage. If you want to see how your house member voted you can check here and here.

I’m sorry to say the deal passed with every GOP member from Virginia voting ‘yes.’ These Republicans are either too timid to vote conservative or they simply aren’t conservatives.

Regardless of the reason for their failure, I’ll be happily boycotting every one of these politicians until they’re out of office. No money and no votes from the Shannon household and I urge every conservative reading this to do likewise.

This is a boycott every conservative can get behind.

Spinners and Whiners

On behalf of ABC News and Yahoo News, the ever-vigilant guardians of the institutionalized “progressive” left’s agenda are at it again.

In a “news report” found under the headline-”Spinners and Winners”, Jonathan Karl, Avery Miller, Richard Coolidge and Sherisse Pham are up to their now familiar –bias disguised as news– tricks.

The story, which includes ”contributions” from  ABC News’ Gregory Simmons Lemos, features such breaking news information as:

“An infusion of millions of dollars, unlike anything we have ever seen before may now be the single biggest force in American politics. Some of the players are well-known, such as conservative activist and former George W. Bush adviser Karl Rove, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a business interest group long active in politics.

This year, there are new players on the scene, so-called SuperPACs, that, unlike candidates or political parties, can accept an unlimited amount of money. For many of these groups who gives and why is a tightly-guarded secret.

“We can see the money going in, but it is very hard to follow what the political favors out are,” says Bill Allison of the nonpartisan Sunlight Foundation. ‘I think that is the most concerning thing about all of this money going into the political process.’”

NOTE-The typos and incorrect grammar in the above quote are part of the original article.

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/power-players-abc-news/flooding-campaigns-secret-millions-101432066.html

In what is now a very familiar, oft repeated pattern of biased political slant and deception, this “news” report specifically names former President George W. Bush and his former adviser Karl Rove, commonly vilified as the worst type of criminals known to man within “progressive” circles in the first paragraph, but completely fails to ever mention the name of the biggest, long time financier of the institutionalized “progressive” left:

George Soros, who’s spent untold millions of his ill-gotten fortune funding such anti-American foundations as:  The Open Society Institute,  Human Rights Watch, the Shadow Democratic Party, Air America Radio (Now defunct, this was a self-identified “liberal” radio  network), Alliance for Justice (Best known for its activism vis a vis the appointment of federal judges, this group consistently depicts Republican judicial nominees as ”extremists”),  America Coming Together (Soros played a major role in creating this group, whose purpose was to coordinate and organize pro-Democrat voter-mobilization programs),  America Votes (Soros also played a major role in creating this group, whose get-out-the-vote campaigns targeted likely Democratic voters), America’s Voice (This open-borders group seeks to promote “comprehensive” immigration reform that includes a robust agenda in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens), American Bar Association Commission on Immigration Policy (This organization “opposes laws that require employers and persons providing education, health care, or other social services to verify citizenship or immigration status”), American Civil Liberties Union (This group opposes virtually all post-9/11 national security measures enacted by the U.S. government. It supports open borders, has rushed to the defense of suspected terrorists and their abettors, and appointed former New Left terrorist Bernardine Dohrn to its Advisory Board), American Constitution Society for Law and Policy (This Washington, DC-based think tank seeks to move American jurisprudence to the left by recruiting, indoctrinating, and mobilizing young law students, helping them acquire positions of power. It also provides leftist Democrats with a bully pulpit from which to denounce their political adversaries), American Family Voices (This group creates and coordinates media campaigns charging Republicans with wrongdoing), American Federation of Teachers (After longtime AFT President Albert Shanker died in in 1997, he was succeeded by Sandra Feldman, who slowly “re-branded” the union, allying it with some of the most powerful left-wing elements of the New Labor Movement. When Feldman died in 2004, Edward McElroy took her place, followed by Randi Weingarten in 2008. All of them kept the union on the leftward course it had adopted in its post-Shanker period), American Friends Service Committee (This group views the United States as the principal cause of human suffering around the world. As such, it favors America’s unilateral disarmament, the dissolution of American borders, amnesty for illegal aliens, the abolition of the death penalty, and the repeal of the Patriot Act), American Immigration Council (This non-profit organization is a prominent member of the open-borders lobby. It advocates expanded rights and amnesty for illegal aliens residing in the U.S.), American Immigration Law Foundation (This group supports amnesty for illegal aliens, on whose behalf it litigates against the U.S. government), American Institute for Social Justice (AISJ’s goal is to produce skilled community organizers who can “transform poor communities” by agitating for increased government spending on city services, drug interdiction, crime prevention, housing, public-sector jobs, access to healthcare, and public schools).

This is only a tiny few of the Soros funded foundations.  A much more comprehensive list can be found here: http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/viewSubCategory.asp?id=1237

In yet another display of open bias and unadulterated misrepresentation, the “new report” refers to the Sunlight Foundation as nonpartisan.  The truth is, in 2011 the Sunlight Foundation received funding over $300,000.00 from Open Society Foundations as well as Open Society Institute, both of which are funded by George Soros.  They have also received funding from the Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Family Fund, Pew Charitable Trusts, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and Marc Cuban, as well as a plethora of other leftists and leftist organizations.

If Bill Allison is so concerned about “all of this money going into the political process”, he should first look at all the money that for decades has been going into the political process from promoters of the institutionalized “progressive” left.  He should man up and realize that politics is a two way street.

ABC News, Yahoo News, Jonathan Karl, Avery Miller, Richard Coolidge, Sherisse Pham, and Gregory Simmons Lemos, should either stop spinning and whining or put in an application to work for MSNBC and/or Media Matters.

Crisis of Confidence

On January 18, 2010 I posted an opinion piece about a new political party in Washington. It was the Say Anything Party, (SAP). Back then I included the more prominent liars in Washington DC as it members, Barack Obama being its president and CEO.

Today I am seeing that the SAPs are increasing their ranks to include those with no integrity.

The new SAPs that come to mind are Republican defectors; Karl Rove, Ricky Perry, Jon Huntsman, most of the FOX opinion hosts pretending that they believe they are journalists, and the list goes on. It includes Democrat demagogues as well the “clever” Republicans. Sadly, the SAP is growing exponentially.

The one that really floored me is Ed Rollins. There was a time when I could consider him a standup guy. Not anymore! He recently bailed out on the Bachmann campaign due to health reason; he was just getting too old for that much intensity. Yet, in the last few days he has exerted more energy than he has in years…basically trash talking whom he once claimed to support.

Americans see this day after day, week after week, and month after month. They are tired of the cheap abandonment of integrity by their elected leaders. It seems as though nobody can be relied upon to have integrity anymore.

Integrity is not simply telling the truth, or being honest. Integrity is the integration of what you think, believe, say, and do. Americans (yea, even the world) know that elected pontiffs will scatter their professed principles in the winds of popularity. We don’t like!

Will She Or Won’t She? Sarah Palin Says There’s Room For More In The Race

Sarah Palin greeting supporters in Iowa September 2 photo via Washington Post

Will she or won’t she? That’s the burning question in the minds of anyone in America who keeps up with politics.

Will Sarah Palin run for president in the 2012 election? Or will she stay on the sidelines, cheering on the “spirited debate” of the other candidates?

According to a Fox News poll, the majority of Americans say that she should stay out of the race. When asked the question, “Do you think Sarah Palin should run for president in 2012 or not?”, the results are overwhelmingly against her entering the race.

  • 74 percent said no
  • 20 percent said yes
  • 6 percent said they’re not sure.

There is only a 9 percent gap in the between Republicans and Democrats who say she should stay out of the race, while nearly three quarters of Independents and Tea Party people said she should stay out of the race.

Sarah Palin continues to leave the country wondering what her decision will be. The speculation is wide and varied, with pundits such as Karl Rove saying she will run, while other pundits and bloggers saying she will not. There’s also some who just do not know if she should run or not.

Jennifer Jacobs, chief political writer at the Des Moines Register, polled the politically involved in Iowa, and one reason listed as to why she shouldn’t  run is her indecision about what she is going to do. Saying Sarah Palin is the “Brett Favre of politics”, Ms. Jacobs  reports that the guessing game is getting old for potential voters.

Sarah Palin is speaking at a Tea Party rally in Des Moines today, and the rumor mill has been buzzing that that “today is the day” she will announce her candidacy. Her aides give the impression that there will be no announcement at today’s event, and Sarah herself continues to be non-committal either way.

“I think there’s room for more, though, because spirited debate and more competition will allow an even better discourse and more rigorous discourse that the public deserves.”

If she does not make an announcement one way or another in Iowa today, there’s always New Hampshire later in the weekend, where she will make an appearance. If she does not make an official announcement yay or nay in New Hampshire, there’s always the news media hounds, political pundits, her Fox News colleagues, and any other number of people to keep the rumors going.

There’s only one person who can put an end to this guessing game, and that’s the lady herself. She has said that her supporters deserve to know very soon which decision she is going to make. She has left the impression in more than one interview that September would be a fair time to let everyone in on the secret.

So the question still remains: Sarah, are you going to be one of the candidates? This guessing game is just feeds into the media and political drama.

Sarah’s Sweet Revenge

Sarah Palin. Her name alone is a dichotomy of emotions, depending on who you are and which side of the political aisle you lean.

For the Conservative mom’s of America, she is a role model to be admired. She is a true lady in every sense of the word, full of grace and beauty, strong yet gentle.

For many Conservatives, men and women alike, she is a champion of the plight of the American people, who’ve been sold out by a myriad of political chess players.

Still, to others, she is a modern day Queen Esther, destined for “such a time as this.” (Esther 4:14)

The the feminist she is a threat, though they will never admit it. She has the strength and resolve they say all women should have, but she is despised for having. She proves the point they have been trying to make for decades, but does it with grace and style that repulses them.

To the liberal media she is a mockery and proverbial punching bag they would love to dismiss, but they just can’t seem to get enough of!

Finally, to the political establishment she is a wake up call. Unfortunately, they keep hitting the mute button. Very few people understand that she is not who they think she is, no matter how many times they think they have her figured out.

Karl Rove, one of the leading political pundits, stepped up to the plate and took the official stance that it appears as though Sarah Palin will indeed be entering the 2012 presidential race. Hold up, Karl! Not so fast! You may be a Washington Insider, but there’s one thing you seem to have forgotten: Sarah Palin is not a Washington Insider!

Her 2008 running mate may be known as a “maverick”, but Sarah Palin is the embodiment of the term.

She’s on a cross-country bus tour, standing up for the values she holds near and dear to her heart- patriotism and love for America. She makes no promises, she makes no apologies. She simply speaks from her heart.

The main stream media continues to be cast to the sidelines, not even earning the privledge of a hint of what her next move will be.

Not even her friends at Fox News, where she is a regular contributor, has an inkling of an idea what her plan is. She keeps them guessing at every turn! Just when they think they have her figured out, they find out they were wrong yet again (though they will never admit it!)

Sarah Palin and her family were thrust into the media circus during the 2008 election and were virtually ripped apart at the seams with wild-eyed scrutiny and criticism that would curl the toenails of any seasoned politician.

Never mind that Barack Obama was pampered by so-called journalists who’ve been in the business for more years than he’s been on this earth- the priority was to find any speck of anything that may appear to be dirt on the Governor of Alaska.

Oh how the mighty have fallen! Just three short years later, Sarah Palin still haunts the liberal media.

Will she or won’t she?

Now the tables are turned. No longer bound by handlers as a secondary candidate, Sarah Palin is in complete control. Every media outlet in the nation is on the edge of their seats, just waiting for the slightest hint of an official announcement.

Will it come September 3?

Sarah’s not tellin’- until she’s darn good and ready!

How sweet it is! Sarah’s got ’em right where she wants ’em! And the media hounds and pundits can’t stand it!
