Indianapolis,IN: The Purdue Board of Trustees unanimously elected Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels Thursday to be the university’s next president.

The trustees met at 10 a.m. in the Stewart Center’s Loeb Playhouse to vote on Gov. Daniels.

Michael Berghoff, the head of the search committee, said the governor was the most frequently nominated candidate. He said Gov. Daniels went through a similar selection process that all other considered candidates went through, meeting with the trustees three times.

Miranda McCormack, who was elected to the Board of Trustees by the governor last year, spoke on behalf of the Purdue student body. She expressed the board and student body were excited, stating “I couldn’t be more happy with our pick.”

Don’t Wait for School Closings! Sign-up to Receive School Closing & Delays Text Alerts

“We want a president that is approachable,” said McCormack. “And I think we found that in Gov. Daniels.”

Gov. Daniels will succeed current president France A. Córdova.

Last July, Córdova announced she would leave the office on July 15 after five years in office. She is credited with raising the standards, reputation and research profile of Purdue University. She also led the effort to cut costs at the university and ensure a Purdue degree was affordable.

Gov. Daniels is expected to finish out his second term as Indiana governor before assuming the position early next year.

Wednesday, Gov. Daniels spoke about higher education at a press conference.

“Maybe someone who reveres higher education and wants very desperately to see it succeed as well as possible, but comes at things from a slightly different maybe complimentary set of experiences, can contribute something,” said Daniels.

He appointed eight of the university’s 10 trustees, three of whom he re-appointed recently.

Willard Romney won six out of ten states last night, but you have to wonder how many voters saw this video before casting their ballots. In it, he brags about how he was able to secure “over $410 Million” from the federal government to help fund the 2002 Winter Olympics. What’s odd is that he even talks about how helpful it is to have people inside Washington to manipulate the system and get you money.

“I’ve learned from my Olympic experience that if you have people that really understand how Washington works and have personal associations there, you can get money to help build economic development opportunities.” -Mitt Romney

To be honest… It kind of sounds like he describes a “Washington insider”. And it sounds like he thinks that “Washington insiders” are good people to have around. Later in the video, he even brags about how he got an extra million dollars from the Department Of Education. When discussing it, he grins and describes it as using “creativity”.

This is all somewhat odd, considering that Mitt Romney has placed so much emphasis on the fact that he’s “not a Washington insider”. But it sounds like when he was vying to be governor of Massachusetts, he was absolutely willing to employ the talents of just such insiders.

Romney has had a hard time convincing Conservative voters that he’s the candidate that they’re looking for, and examples like this might be why.

In case you haven’t heard, former governor of Utah, Jon Huntsman Jr. has officially dropped out of the Republican primary. That’s not surprising, really, considering that he spent most of the past year in the single digits. What is surprising is that he didn’t bow out on the night of the New Hampshire primary; the guy practically lived there, and he still came in behind Ron Paul.

The other thing that is surprising (and particularly #HeadDesk worthy) is that Huntsman thinks his dropping out will consolidate the vote. That couldn’t be any further from the truth.

Huntsman dropping out does very little, if anything, to affect the dynamics of this race. Right now you have three factions: Romney, Paul, and then this gaggle involving Perry, Gingrich, and Santorum. And the truth is that as long as Paul is in the race, there will probably never be anyone with enough momentum to overcome Romney. Even if you have Santorum and Perry drop out, there is a very real chance that Paul staying in can help Romney get the plurality every time.

So it’s cute that Huntsman wants his endorsement to carry weight, just like it’s cute that McCain wanted his to do so, but Jon dropping out did nothing to change this cluster-truck that we’re dealing with. The only thing it did was to make the Huntsman girls seem a little less relevant. But with today’s news culture, they can probably go to CNN and be three times more compelling as pundits than Meghan McCain has ever been.

I came across a Rick Perry ad today that stopped me in my tracks, and not for any of the good reasons. At first glance, it seems like it might be another good TV spot for the candidate from Texas. It starts off with optimistic music and Perry looking like a seasoned man from America’s heartland. He’s standing by a quiet river, and he begins with a proclamation that he’s “not ashamed to admit that he’s a Christian”. So far so good… Then his next statement kind of derails things. Take a look…

Look… I know that this statement will speak to the hearts of many Americans, but Perry really shouldn’t have added the line about “gays serving openly in the military”. I think he had a good ad on his hands without the addition of that statement. And to be honest with you, I’m not at all sorry for him for any heat this might bring upon his campaign.

This is a year where Republicans have an honest chance to unseat the current president, and that’s saying a lot, considering how dire the GOP’s hand was in 2008. Commercials like this do nothing to bolster those chances, however, and I’m ashamed of Perry for putting this line in there.

Now, I know that Perry has been gaining support on this website, and that I’ll draw the ire of many of our readers for pointing this out, but if you WANT Perry to be the next president of the United States, ads like this do not help. Whether it is fair or not, Republicans are known for being “against the gays”. How does this ad help to change that perception? It doesn’t. It only “reaffirms” what many have suspected about Republicans all along.

Also… it was a good ad without that line. Perry looked good, he sounded good, the production values were solid, and his message was fine. Adding the line about gays serving openly in the military did nothing to improve or embellish it. It was foolish, and it was the opposite of helpful.

This isn’t the first time that Perry has disappointed me, nor is it the first time that he’s “stepped in it”, but after enough occurrences, these things start to look like nails in his coffin.

In case you missed it, this is the Bret Baier interview with Romney that everyone’s been talking about. Bret asks Mitt about possible similarities between Obama Care and Romney Care, and oh, does Willard squirm. Check it out, check-it-outers:

I’ll tell you two things I learned from this video.

One: Romney was hoping the interview would be a bunch of softballs, and a circuit in his (robot) brain shorted out when he was thrown a curve ball.
Two: Now that Newt is Romney’s greatest threat, Mitt’s gonna start throwing him under the bus like he used to do Perry. (and Huckabee the last go-round)

What do you guys think? Did Willard quirm? Did that robot brain seize up? Or did he handle himself well? And is he going to be able to bully Newt around the same way he used to do Perry?

Let us know your thoughts on Facebook or in the comments below. This primary ain’t over yet, folks. Not by a long shot.

WARNING: THIS POST MAY BE OFFENSIVE TO SOME AND MAY NOT BE SAFE FOR WORK

On Sunday, California Governor Jerry Brown announced that he had signed AB499 into law. This bill is basically what’s known as the law that let’s young girls (as young as 12) decide to get preventative treatments against HPV (like Gardasil) without consulting their parents. They can go wherever this service is being offered and get a $500 series of vaccinations without so much as telling their parents they’ve chosen to do so. An interesting point that crosses my mind is that any parent who has a 12 year old daughter that can “disappear” long enough to get Gardasil administered to her without her parents noticing is probably the same parent that would have a sexually active 12 year old in the first place. The monster feeds itself on this one. (please note that this is conjecture on my part, and it’s somewhat tasteless conjecture at that)

While studying this story, I also came to a realization that is so shocking that I had to double check it and then check it five more times before I was willing to believe it. In California, there is no parental involvement when it comes to getting abortions regardless of how young the girl is. The same 12 year old girl that can get these HPV vaccinations can presumably get an abortion too. Chew on that for a second. Abortions can be performed on minors without the parents’ consent and without notifying the parents either. That is astounding.

So, basically, a sixth grade girl can decide to get the HPV treatments, have sex with an adult for all we know, get pregnant, and have an abortion all without her parents ever finding out. If you ever wanted to know why California is in such bad shape, I think this scenario would be a good place to start looking. AGAIN, THIS PIECE IS STRICTLY MY OPINION AND POSSIBLY OFFENSIVE TO SOME. But I don’t see how any good can come from the foundation this state has set in place.

Jamie Oliver doesn’t think kids in L.A. are smart enough to pick what flavor milk they can drink. Why does anyone think they can decide on what is prudent with their health or their sexual organs? Why are minors allowed to decide to have an abortion? At this point, I don’t even consider myself a prude; I just don’t think any good can come from children having this much control without any way that parents can intervene. And that’s the irony, don’t you think? Who gets in trouble when children break the law? Who does that onus usually fall on? The parents, right? How many shades of grey do there really need to be in California? I have a child, and I live in California. What will this state let my offspring do behind my back by the time they are “old enough to make these decisions”? That is an anxiety that no parent should have to feel, but I feel it.

I know that proponents of these laws say it’s because if these laws weren’t in place, then parents would let dreams of sexual abstinence cloud the reality of teenage intercourse or some crap like that. And you know what, there is some truth to that. A little bit… But this is California. I think most parents are pretty well aware that their kids might start screwing at younger age than what is desirable. I also think those parents (myself included) would like to think they have some say-so when or if that happens. In California, we don’t.

And then there is the truly frightening paradox. On one hand, my child is so fragile, that they “need” to stay on my insurance until they are 26 years old. But on the other hand, they can kill a baby when they are 16 (or even younger). Please explain how this social and legal schizophrenia sounds rational to anyone. Maybe in 1956, it was common for fathers to scare their daughters so badly that they resorted to a back-alley abortion, but in 2011, I just don’t think it happens that often.

But you know what? I’m a reasonable man. How about a compromise? If a minor decides she wants vaccines or an abortion, why not have an advocate of some sort present in police stations. Some officers come to the home and explain that the minor is pregnant and/or sexually active and scared. She’s scared that her parents will hurt her if they find out, so these advocates come and explain it to the parents, while creating a safe atmosphere. Now maybe my idea for advocates is crap. I haven’t put enough thought into it to fight you over it, but I think it’s a lot better letting a 12 year old see doctors or kill babies behind my back. There has to be some sort of middle ground, even in Progressive California.

These are my thoughts, and this is my rant. This is in no way an objective piece of analysis. These are just my thoughts. (and there were two warnings at the start of the piece, in case you didn’t notice them)

With that said, I’ll leave you with this video I made which mocks the policies in California. Like this post, the video may be offensive to some.

You may have remembered Rick Perry’s less than stellar showing at the Fox News/Google debate from Sep 23rd, you know, the one where he said, “I don’t think you have a heart”. Well, it looks like Ricky Perry has spent a lot of time remembering it too, and he’s decided to walk back that statement and better explain some other ones.

Above is a segment of an interview he did with Newsmax.com. In it, he did a much better job explaining what his positions are on many aspects of immigration. Besides the famous “you don’t have a heart” line, he also addressed how he feels about a border fence. He says you can build one, but without personnel to man the fence, it’s not going to keep anyone out. He also brought up concerns about how a border fence would affect private property.

I think he clarified a lot of things in the interview, but I’m still not confident he can give solid answers when he’s under the pressure of a debate. I’ve seen him strike out three times so far, but I would be glad to see himself do a better job in the future ones. What do you guys think? Did this interview help redeem the poor performance he had in last week’s debate? And do you think Perry can handle the next debate, or is he just not good answering questions under pressure? Let us know in the comments below; we’d love to hear from you.

Texas Governor, Rick Perry, has not announced yet if he will run. As all the new candidates are under scrutiny by the media there has been some speculation that Perry is part of a secret group of elitists by the name of Bilderberg. The group may be part of a select few whose goals are to develop an international agenda.

The group was established in 1954, the Bilderberg Group holds annual meetings, which are by invitation only for the most wealthy and powerful people. Roughly one-third of those who attend are Americans and the rest are European. The group took the name Bilderberg after their first meeting which was held in Oosterbeek, Netherlands at the Hotel de Bilderberg. There are those who believe the group is made up of an elite group of people whose strategic goal is a new world order. They meet to discuss, and influence, the changing global, political, economic and social landscape. Bilderberg -Planning on a New World Order. What appears to be the official website of Bilderberg is rather vague, but to the point. If it is in fact the groups web-site cannot be confirmed, however information on the site states:

What is unique about Bilderberg as a forum is

the broad cross-section of leading citizens that are assembled for nearly three days of informal and off-the-record discussion about topics of current concern especially in the fields of foreign affairs and the international economy;

the strong feeling among participants that in view of the differing attitudes and experiences of the Western nations, there remains a clear need to further develop an understanding in which these concerns can be accommodated;

the privacy of the meetings, which has no purpose other than to allow participants to speak their minds openly and freely.Bilderberg Meetings | The official website.

Governor Perry gets endorsement for Presidential election from Bilderberg according to Paul Joseph Watson of InfoWars.com. In an article he states, “While spewing Tea Party-style rhetoric about secession, shooting coyotes and courting the favor of Christian evangelicals, behind closed doors Perry has been quietly selling out Texas to globalist interests, auctioning off highways to foreign companies to turn them into profit-driven toll roads.”

“Speculation that Perry is the Bilderberg group’s ace card was prompted by the current political climate, which can largely be gleaned from the fact that Perry is a longtime, unwavering supporter of the NAFTA Superhighway and related infrastructure projects,” wrote AFP’s Jim Tucker earlier this month. “These pave the way for the Bilderberg-supported North American Union (NAU) proposal that would merge the U.S., Canada and Mexico.” via » Bilderberg-Approved Perry Set to Become Presidential Frontrunner Alex Jones’ Infowars: There’s a war on for your mind! Although he is clearly violating the Logan Act, Governor Perry still attends the 2007 Bilderberg conference. viaBusted! Kathleen Sebelius admitts that she and Rick Perry are Bilderberg Group attendees! – Orange County: Campaign For Liberty. The Logan Act is a US federal law which prohibits unauthorized citizens from negotiating with foreign governments. It was passed in 1799 and amended in 1994, violation of the law is a felony, punishable with up to three years in prison.

Executive Director Wes Benedict of the Libertarian Party expressed his voice regarding Mr. Perry. He said about Governor Perry, “You supported Lance Armstrong’s 3 billion dollar Texas taxpayer funded medical research center. That’s like Obama-Care. you secured a 300 million dollar business handout slush fund for you and just the two leaders of the legislature to dole out to whomever you felt like being friendly to.” He also went on to accuse Perry of a state business tax, setting up state toll booths on the TX highways, and signing an executive order which forces Texas schoolgirls to get the HPV vaccine – whether they, or their parents, want it or not. via Rick Perry slammed by Libertarian Director: video | Libertarian Party

Governor Perry has stated he will announce his plan to run for President this Saturday. Is it a good idea or not? You decide, and while you’re at it, you may want to look into all the candidates for yourself. Remember, the campaign trail has an historical record for producing a lot of rhetoric and very little action once they are in office.

Has been called the ‘most fiscally conservative Governor’ in the country
Has been called “the original Tea Party candidate” due to his stance and success on cutting taxes

Political Accomplishments
Cut the 10% annual growth in New Mexico’s budget by using his veto power as governor on half of the bills his first six months in office.
Earned the nickname “Governor Veto” due to his frequent use of his veto power.
Set state and national records for vetoes- a total of 750 vetoes while in office- more than the other 49 contemporary governors combined
He cut taxes 14 times and never raised them.
Left office as Governor with New Mexico being one of only four states in the country with a balanced budget.
Reason Magazine described his accomplishments in a 2001 articles in the following words:

“no tax increases in six years, a major road building program, shifting Medicaid to managed care, constructing two new private prisons, canning 1,200 state employees, and vetoing a record number of bills.”

A New Mexico paper wrote of him:

“Johnson left the state fiscally solid,” and was “arguably the most popular governor of the decade . . . leaving the state with a $1 billion budget surplus.”

In regards to his numerous vetoes, with only two of the vetoes being overridden, Johnson is quoting as saying they [the vetoes]:

“stemmed from his philosophy of looking at all things for their cost-benefit ratio and his axe fell on Republicans as well as Democrats.”

Political Affiliations
Previously a member of the National Governor’s Association
Previously a member of the Republican Governor’s Association
Previously a member of the Western Governor’s Association
2009- Formed OUR America Initiative, a 501c(4) non-profit that advocates for fiscal responsibility, civil liberties, and rational public policy
Currently serves on the Advisory Council of Students for Sensible Drug Policy. This is a student nonprofit organization that believes that the war on drugs should be reevaluated.
Currently serves on the board of directors of Student For Liberty, which is a college-aged national political organization.

Political Endorsements
2008- Endorsed Ron Paul for the Republican Presidential nomination
This makes for an interesting twist now that they are political opponents, running for the very same office.

On The Issues
Fiscally http://conservativedailynews.com/2009/08/what-does-it-mean-to-be-conservative/
Socially Liberal Libertarian
Limited government philosophy
Pro-choice

Supports
Supports marijuana decriminalization
Supports simplifying and lowering taxes
Supports balancing the federal budget immediately
Supports “slashing government spending“, including Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security
Supports passing a law allowing states to file bankruptcy
Encourages fathers’ participation in child-raising- would allow federal funds and state involvement in these initiatives
This quote regarding Gary Johnson “on the issues” is from 2001. I would like to know if he still stands by allowing federal funds to be used for these initiatives.

Opposes
ObamaCare
Has been opposed to the Iraq war from the beginning and continues to call for American presence to end in that country

Medicare and Medicaid
His plan would cut these two programs by 43% by turning them into block grant programs, giving control of the spending to the states. He says by doing this we will create “fifty laboratories of innovation”.

In The Spotlight
February 2011- Was a featured speaker at C-PAC where

“the crowd liked him – even as he pushed some of his more controversial points.”

February 2011- Was a featured speaker at the Republican Liberty Caucus
May 5, 2011- Participated in the first GOP Presidential Debate for 2012
There is much to be said about first impressions. Before this first debate I had no idea who Gary Johnson was. Sadly, my first impression of him was not that good. If you read the article that I wrote the night of the debate you will see by the end of the night things were not as bad as in the beginning. After profiling him for this article there are a lot of things I like about Mr. Johnson. However, to quote the article above:

“Gary Johnson’s stance on this issue absolutely, without a doubt lost my vote if he had not already, when he discussed his pro-choice views. No thank you, Mr. Johnson! No thank you!”

This is one thing I cannot compromise on. If you have read any of my articles regarding mine and my husband’s journey to have a family you will understand why this is an absolute for me. I cannot and will not budge on this issue- ever! Life begins at conception. I cannot vote for someone who believes a woman has a right to choose whether or not she carries life or kills life.
