Using his weekly public address, Obama informs the people that climate change “can no longer be ignore.”

Last Wednesday, at a ceremony to appoint Texas lawyer Shaarik Zafar to be special representative to Muslim communities, Secretary of State John Kerry said it was the United States’ Biblical “responsibility” to “confront climate change,” including to protect “vulnerable Muslim majority counties.”
Kerry said Scripture, in particular the Book of Genesis, makes clear it is our “duty” to protect the planet and we should look at Muslim countries “with a sense of stewardship of earth,” adding, “That responsibility comes from God.” And here you thought all along that “Uncle Joe” was the resident crazy in the Obama administration. I must say, it is always interesting to watch a liberal attempt to play theologian. Obama did it with homosexuality and now Kerry is playing it with climate change. They certainly have no problem using religion when it’s convenient to advance one of their crackpot agendas yet it is demonized at every other opportunity for things that really matter to the rest of us.
The world is aflame and the absolutely last thing I am concerned about when it comes to the Muslim world is how “climate change” may or may not affect them. Honestly, it’s the very, very last thing on a very, very long list of “concerns” I do in fact have with all those who follow the teachings of Muhammad. This ongoing, seemingly compulsive need to pander to the Islamic world is worrying indeed. Especially since thousands of Christians in the Middle East are being slaughtered, raped, enslaved, and driven out of their homes by followers of the same religion. One can only ask “why?” so many times.
It is theoretically comforting that Kerry appears to have had a “come to Jesus” moment when it comes to Christianity. But we all know that in reality it’s just a farce and another ploy to try to placate the Muslims and convince them that as “People of the Book” we really aren’t all that bad and to please try to stop blowing us up and beheading our people. It reminds me of the utterly bizarre directive of Obama to turn NASA into some sort of Muslim outreach program. Absurdity continues to run amok during the reign of President Barack Obama. Do the members of the Obama administration even live in the same world as the rest of us?
Where specifically in the Old and New Testaments does the words “Muslim,” or “climate change” appear? To be very specific, nowhere. It seems like there is not a day that goes by that a prominent liberal doesn’t say something that isn’t simply stupid. Quoting Scripture to “protect” Muslim lands is a new one to me. Perhaps he doesn’t read the same Bible as you or I.
And since when is ‘religion matters’ a mantra for the State Department? What the heck is that even supposed to mean anyway? One would think that if that was really true, the nutjob, militant atheistic Left would be up in arms but they are not. They know that such a statement is merely a hollow, meaningless piece of propaganda and totally without merit. I am inclined to concur with their conclusion. It sounds like this is just as an apparent cover and excuse to impose massive government intrusion into every aspect of the daily life of the average American. Because that’s where it leads and is what it means.
The morals, values, and concepts of Christianity have been under unrelenting attack by this administration since its inception and it’s interesting that suddenly these types of references to scripture appear right before the mid-term elections. Perhaps a half-hearted attempt by some to confuse the average evangelical voter? Who knows? Kerry, the Bible also says we are commanded to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I [Jesus] have commanded you.” Care to publicize that the State Department is ‘making that it’s mantra” to the Muslim nations? I didn’t think so.
As the son, grandson, and great-grandson of ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ I can assure you that the theology of both John Kerry and Barack Obama is far from the truth and only being used as a cynical ploy to advance their ideological, and not theological, agendas. It’s always a bit distressing to hear Godless people try to misuse scripture to forward their secular agendas. I wonder if Kerry is aware of the scriptures describing liars and their one way ticket to hell. I’d love to hear him discuss that one sometime. Scripture also condemns bearing false witness which he has been caught doing innumerable times. One can only surmise that Kerry is selective when it comes to his faith worldview. Just being a Christian when it’s convenient isn’t acceptable.
When it comes to the liberal mind we are supposed to ignore Biblical passages about God knowing us while we are still in the womb and anything about the condemnation of homosexuality, but get all Biblical on climate change. For them, global warming is in many ways a new religion that trumps all others. I have a news flash, neither Kerry or Gore is the new Moses leading us into the Promised Land.
And last, but not least, if the Obama administration could come up with a strategy protecting both Muslims and others from beheadings, torture, forced starvation, rape, imprisonment, and mass executions at the hands of other, more devout, Muslims it would be appreciated. In the end, the real God of Progressives and liberals is the almighty state, not the God of the Bible. Big government is not God, and Barack is not his prophet.
Every four years, athletes from all over the world gather to showcase their talents. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) uses the Olympics to promote their liberal causes.
Fortunately, most of the athletes go to the Olympics to give their best athletically and stay clear of false politics. They simply do not have time to get sidetracked.
The Olympics were started in ancient Greece. They were athletic events surrounded by ritual sacrifices honoring Zeus and Pelops. Around 393 AD, as Greece was overtaken by the Romans, emperor Theodosius 1 decreed that all pagan cults and practices should be stopped. The ancient Olympics came to an end.
Pierre de Coubertin started the IOC in 1894. The first modern Olympics opened in Athens, Greece in 1896. Many of the pagan practices were eliminated, with some practices remaining.
In 2009, the IOC was granted observer status by the United Nations. This decision was based on the IOC’s contribution to the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.
As a result, the IOC is trying to sway athletes to promote their liberal causes, including homosexuality and climate change endeavors.
In October 2013, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) adopted pro-homosexual policies. U.S. athletes must now take a vow that they will not engage in “discrimination” based on “sexual orientation.”
4 WINDS President Steve McConkey fought this to no avail. “The USOC policies are set-up for discrimination against gay athletes, but there could be reverse discrimination in the future. It is a matter of time when Christians that believe homosexuality is a sin will go against the law of the land,” says McConkey. “The Olympic movement shadows what is happening in the real world.”
4 WINDS is a world-class track and field ministry. Steve and his wife started working in world-class track and field ministries in 1981. They have lived in Eugene, Fort Worth, Minneapolis, and now Madison, Wisconsin. Steve has a Masters of Public Health from Western Kentucky University and a BS-Public Health from Minnesota State University in Mankato. He became a Christian in 1976.
In 2003, McConkey fought the IOC for allowing transgenders in the Olympics to no avail. During the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, McConkey spearheaded the distribution of athlete testimonies into the underground church in China, estimated to be over 110 million people.
Two of the four Olympic athletes who had their testimonies distributed were supposed to win medals. All four won medals, accumulating three golds, two silvers. Before and after the Olympics, their testimonies went all over the world. Millions were reached.
Last week, a group of 105 athletes at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi distributed a letter requesting world leaders to take action on climate change and to prepare a commitment to a global agreement prior to the Paris climate talks in 2015.
These athletes are using their positions to promote global warming causes that have not been proven.
Steve McConkey believes Christian athletes should concentrate on their Olympic events and share their testimonies after their event is concluded. “Athletes have a tremendous opportunity to tell the world about their Christian faith. Be like the apostle Paul who went into Athens to share the gospel in a pagan world,” says McConkey. “You are in the Olympics to give a 100% athletic performance, so do this before you engage the media.”

Shock: EPA Administrator Pushes Job-Crushing Climate Regs But Is Incapable Of Supporting President’s Warming Claims
In a hearing yesterday on climate regulation, Senator Sessions pressed EPA administrator Gina McCarthy to support the President’s statements on warming which are used to justify massive proposed administrative actions which would hurt millions of workers. McCarthy proved unable and unwilling to support the President’s claims despite being the central figure crafting and implementing EPA regulations.
Sessions: “Do I not have the right to ask the Director of EPA a simple question that is relevant to the dispute that is before us? Is the temperature around the globe increasing faster than was predicted, even 10 years ago [as the President claimed]?”
McCarthy: “I can’t answer that question.”
Sessions: “You are asking us to impose billions of dollars of cost on this economy and you won’t answer the simple question of whether [temperature around the globe is increasing faster than predicted] is an accurate statement or not?”
Irony of ironies. Or perhaps it’s just ideology of ideologies.
Here’s the ideology part. On Friday, September 20, 2013, Dear Leader Barack Hussein Obama announced tough new requirements for new coal-fired power plants. He is set to ban all future coal-fired power plant construction by regulatory fiat by having the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issue new regulations. This is a central part of Obama’s global warming prevention plan, because it will help end what he calls “the limitless dumping of carbon pollution” from coal-fired power plants. Obama said at Georgetown University on June 25, 2013:
“As a President, as a father, and as an American, I’m here to say we need to act.
I refuse to condemn your generation and future generations to a planet that’s beyond fixing. And that’s why, today, I’m announcing a new national climate action plan, and I’m here to enlist your generation’s help in keeping the United States of America a leader — a global leader — in the fight against climate change. [emphasis mine]
The only way coal-fired power plants can comply with his latest requirements is to capture carbon-dioxide emissions and stick them underground, but that is a costly process that hasn’t been demonstrated on a commercial scale before. There are currently two coal-fired power plants being built that will meet the new EPA regulations. They are in Canada’s Saskatchewan Province and in Kemper County MS.
But (and there’s always a “but” when Obama is involved) there two troubling facts about the Kemper County plant. First, the $4.3 billion Kemper County plant has been plagued with at least a $1.9 billion cost overrun. Southern Company, the power plant’s builder, explains the overrun as a byproduct of “first-of-a-kind technology.” That is precisely the technology needed to meet the new EPA regulations. Second, the Kemper County plant has received a $270 million grant from the Department of Energy (DOE) AND a $133 million investment tax credit.
So we taxpayers get it in the shorts in the form of higher electricity rates and by paying subsidies.
But wait, there’s more! Here’s the irony part. The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 5th report (AR5) states that “computer predictions for global warming and the effects of carbon emissions have been proved to be inaccurate.” And that “computers may not have taken enough notice of natural variability in the climate, therefore exaggerating the effect of increased carbon emissions on world temperatures.”
As David Rose wrote, “A leaked copy of the world’s most authoritative climate study [AR5] reveals scientific forecasts of imminent doom were drastically wrong.” Rose also wrote “Last night Professor Judith Curry, head of climate science at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, said the leaked summary showed that ‘the science is clearly not settled, and is in a state of flux’.”
Obama promised in 2008 to “fundamentally transform America.” He has certainly done that, and this latest regulatory fiat continues his efforts. And he hasn’t let little things like facts stand in his way! Irony or Ideology, or some of both?

For anyone to not be skeptical of anthropogenic global warming (AGW) at this point can only be ascribed to gullibility, or a desire to believe in spite of all the evidence to the contrary. To not be a skeptic is to deny the very science they profess such profound faith in. The appellation used for years against the skeptics can most appropriately be applied to those who still bitterly cling to their empirically unverifiable belief, their Al Gore global warming book, and reject the inconvenient truth – they are themselves “flat earthers.”
In case you’ve been wondering why the AGW alarmists have been so reticent in recent years, except clueless politicians, is because global mean temperatures have not increased for the past two decades. In February, Rajendra Pachauri, the AGW alarmist who heads the U.N.’s climate panel, the IPCC, admitted that the Hadley/CRU temperature record shows no warming for 18 or 19 years. In fact, Remote Sensing System (RSS) satellites validate that there has been no global warming for 23 years. Not one of the IPCC computer models had predicted that.
Global temperatures have flat-lined in spite of the fact that roughly 60 billion tons of manmade carbon dioxide (CO2) has been cumulatively added to the atmosphere between 2000 and 2010. According to the scientists who track such emissions, that represents about one-quarter of all the carbon dioxide put there by humans since 1750, according to The Economist in March.
That sounds like a lot of manmade CO2, but we’ve got to look at it in context to see how relevant it is. Scientists tell us that our atmosphere is composed roughly (by volume) of 78.09% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0-4% water vapor, 0.93% argon, 0.039% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases.
Now, let’s put carbon dioxide into perspective. The atmosphere, oceans, and land biomass contain about 750 billion tons (GT) of CO2 and manmade emissions contribute about 6 GT. The oceans, land and atmosphere exchange CO2 continuously which means that the addition by humans is incredibly small, amounting to .00159% of the total, and .0083% of the atmospheric carbon dioxide.
To provide a point of reference for comparative purposes, the average household bathtub holds about 42 gallons of water. If you filled your tub and then poured in an additional half-a-teaspoon of water, that would be the equivalent of our CO2 contribution to the atmosphere. And remember, CO2 makes up just .039% of the atmosphere, which under other measuring systems would constitute no more than a “trace amount.” Water vapor is by far the most prevalent component accounting for as much as 85% of the greenhouse effect.
The theory, as advanced by AGW alarmists, is that there’s a causal relationship between manmade CO2 emissions, and rising global temperatures during the 20th century. The earth’s atmosphere warmed about 1 degree during that time, as manmade emissions were growing exponentially. The disconnect between actual emissions, and satellite global mean temperature data, invalidates the causality they have bitterly clung to.
One explanation climatologists like Dr. Roy Spencer suggest is the increasing body of research that indicates the atmosphere responds differently to higher concentrations of atmospheric carbon dioxide, in ways that had not been recognized before. Evidence suggests that the atmosphere simply releases much more CO2 into space than previously thought, like it’s own safety valve. CO2 is a greenhouse gas, and if trapped entirely within the atmosphere, the global mean temperatures would likely increase.
Dr. Spencer, a principal research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and former U.S. Science Team Leader at NASA, reports, “real-world data from NASA’s Terra satellite contradict multiple assumptions fed into alarmist computer models.”
“The satellite observations suggest there is much more energy lost to space during and after warming than the climate models show. There is a huge discrepancy between the data and the forecasts that is especially big over the oceans,” Spencer stated in a peer-reviewed article two years ago.
Spencer’s research team said that not only is there much less heat being trapped in the atmosphere, than projected by alarmist models, but that the NASA satellite data show that the atmosphere begins releasing the excessive heat and CO2 into space much sooner, and in much larger quantities, than IPCC computer models have predicted. Spencer indicates that’s the most significant reason why all of the UN models are erroneous in their projections.
Two months ago, a group of 20 former NASA scientists, published the results of a year-long exhaustive study of all of the AGW research they could get their hands on. They arrived at several conclusions, but the most salient to this discussion, were, ”The science that predicts the extent of anthropogenic global warming is not settled science,” and “There is no convincing physical evidence of catastrophic anthropogenic global warming; most of the alarm results from output of invalidated computer models.” And finally, “Because there is no immediate threat of global warming requiring swift corrective action, scientists have time to study global climate changes and improve prediction accuracy.”
For Obama to declare AGW to be “the global threat of our time,” as he did in Berlin this week, is to ignore the real science that he pretends so much to respect. The only thing that will be accomplished by executive order directing the EPA to regulate CO2 emissions, will be the fulfillment of his campaign promise four years ago, that energy prices would “skyrocket” under his policies. To do this under the pretense of saving the world from AGW, is much worse than wishful thinking – it’s a lie.

The hockey-stick, global warming, climate change .. whatever you want to call it. Skeptics have been called flat-Earthers among all other names, but now scientists are agreeing – climate change seems to not be happening.
While a two decade pattern of proven scientific data has directly contradicted the global warming alarmist view, some scientists say that we just haven’t waited long enough.
International Panel on Climate Change chairman Rajendra Pachauri recently told The Weekend Australian the hiatus would have to last 30 to 40 years “at least” to break the long-term warming trend. – The Australian
In the most non-nonsensical of statements, the Whitehouse said that whatever is going on with non-rising temperatures requires explanation because the pause in temperature rise has occurred despite a sharp increase in carbon emissions.
Oddly, the Obama administration’s own statement may say more than they intended. If carbon emissions are rising at some epic scale and global temperatures aren’t rising then the cause-and-effect models that global warming leaders like Al Gore have been using .. are fundamentally false.
Dateline Guatemala! President Molina-Preez ordered release of more than $14 Million to help coffee growers battle a fungus that is affecting 70 percent of their nation’s crop.
The funds will help the 60,000 farmers spray pesticides in an attempt to halt the spread of coffee rust which kills plants. The rust has affected coffee plantations throughout Central America.
In his statement President Molina said they are concerned production could drop by 40 percent and that they have already lost 100,000 jobs with concerns the problem, if not stemmed will affect millions of residents. Coffee growers are attributing climate change and a general increase in temperature the past two years to the increased rust growth.
Honduras and Costa Rica declared national emergencies last month. In Panama the fungus has affected at least 60 percent of the crop this year.
Watch out coffee drinkers. Soon your pot may be empty!

One can expect to hear any number of ridiculous claims by guests – not to mention hosts – on the far-left MSNBC network, but one talking head recently shared an opinion so unbelievable it actually stood out among the rest of the propagandistic rhetoric.
Christie Hefner, spokesperson for the Center for American Progress, was on the air with pseudo-Republican host Joe Scarborough to share her amazingly obtuse view that climate change is responsible for Chicago’s spike in gun violence.
Climate change – a catch-all term much harder to dispute than “global warming” – has been blamed for almost all of the world’s ills by those on the fringe left. Hefner’s diatribe, however, found a new and baffling way to target Americans for their supposed disrespect of the environment.
Citing some “contributing factors” for the violence, she said “there is a dramatic increase in gun violence when it is warmer and we are having this climate change effect that is driving that.”
Embroiled in a culture of violence and suffering under corrupt leadership, Chicago has plenty of causes for its deadly reputation. A normal fluctuation in global temperature is not one of them, despite Hefner’s emphatic contention.
For his part, Scarborough seemed to realize her point was sufficiently controversial and used the opportunity to take a jab at conservative writers.
Telling her “conservative bloggers across America thank you” for the commentary fodder, he couldn’t resist adding that she “made a lot of people in the basements of their mother’s homes very happy.”
For all the left’s hand-wringing over a perceived bias at Fox News, there is absolutely no comparison to the blatant political prejudice found in the mainstream media. By comparison, I suppose a network daring to actually expose the conservative viewpoint to its audience would seem biased.
As I watched T.V. the other day a reporter was asking people what they expected from the next four years of Obama’s term as President, one person said she expects Obama to fix climate change. I swear, I sat there shaking my head and laughing, are people in this country that stupid that they think that the Government can actually alter the weather? Come on people, give me a break here, you cannot be that stupid, was the words I said to myself. If people would just take the time and do a little research on their own, they would see that over the years the Earth has had climate change since it began, it would go warm, cool, warm, cool it’s natural for the Earth to do this.
For those of you who remember the early 1970’s they were predicting another ice age, the Earth was cooling and we must prepare ourselves for the coming colder temperatures was on the so-called expert’s lips. Then, all of a sudden, it turned into global warming, because the Earth was warming up, so said the same experts that said that the new ice age was coming. Now because the temperature fluctuates, and so the so-called experts do not want to look like idiots, they just call it climate change, so they can cover all bases. Well, I have news for these so-called experts, there is no such thing as manmade climate change, it cools and warms because that is the way the Earth functions.
Has anyone heard of the year without a summer, well in 1816 there was no summer, in July and August of that year there was still ice on the rivers of New York and Pennsylvania, as well as frost around the world. Funny thing, there were no cars or buses or jet planes or anything else that the experts today are blaming climate change on, it was a natural thing then, just like it is a natural thing today. Moreover, it is people like Al Gore that use climate change in order to scare people, just so he can make billions of dollars off it. Mean while Gore is flying around in private jets, riding in big gas guzzling SUV’s and has five homes, which each one uses enough electricity to power ten smaller homes. Does the word hypocrite come to mind, it sure does to me.
Another woman was asked the same question, she said she is expecting her free healthcare, again I was sitting there shaking my head, free healthcare, there is no such thing. The new healthcare bill, known as Obama-care is nothing but two-thousand pages of new taxes, if that woman thinks her healthcare is going to be free, she is in for a rude awakening. Wait until she tries to see a doctor, if she is lucky enough to find one, she is probably going to have to wait three weeks for an appointment. People need to realize, just because you have an insurance card that does not mean you will have access to a doctor any time you want one.
Obama-care was supposed to cost 980 billion dollars over ten years, the latest estimate is 2.6 trillion dollars and who knows what the true cost is going to be. Already premiums are going up when we were promised that they would not, companies have started to lay-off people or cut them to part-time work when we were told that it would create jobs. It seems to me that the Government needs to keep their hands off of the weather and healthcare, because they obviously have no clue what they are doing.
So I asked myself, “are people in America really that stupid” and the answer came back, at least 51% of the people are, because 51% of the people voted to re-elect Obama.
Recent evidence from Germany could put both Al Gore’s Nobel Peace Prize and his Oscar (for the film An Inconvenient Truth) in jeopardy. These German researchers have proven without a doubt that Global Warming does not exist. There has been no word from the scientific community on how far these reverberations will be felt. Watch the video to find out for yourself.
(the following video contains profanity)
With the scorching heat and the infamous derecho that left D.C. in the dark on June 29, it seems perfectly logical for folks in the Washington area to blame “global warming” as we all bake in the 100 degree heat. In fact, The Washington Post conducted a poll that showed that a majority of Americans believe that world temperatures are rising and that it can be remedied by government action to decrease energy consumption.
However, the reason why this story was buried at the bottom of the page A13 today may well be because a whopping 7 out of 10 of those poll opposed hiking taxes on gasoline and other fossil fuels.
As this recession continues to chip away at the middle class, it’s no surprise that:
“Americans are leery of broad-based tax increases. More than 70 percent oppose policies that would rely on tax increases on electricity or gas to change individual behavior, while 66 percent favor tax breaks to curb greenhouse gas emissions.”
What’s more, the second to last paragraph shows that nearly half of Americans “perceive that President Obama wants a great deal or quite a bit of government action on global warming.” This comes on top of the public’s overall aversion to Obama’s health care industry overhaul. The American people know the president’s prescriptions would be heavy on taxes, and they don’t like it.
The Post buried the lede like an ostrich buries its head in the sand.
It’s unfortunate The Derecho Project — the largest urban global warming mitigation experiment in history — has proven to be an abject failure. Really a shame, too since the project’s design was almost perfect.
The sample was composed of liberal environmentalists in Maryland, D.C. and Arlington who should have been eager to personally have a role in reducing the nation’s carbon footprint.
Final selection for participation in The Derecho Project was entirely random: if a tree fell and knocked out a family’s power, they instantly became part of the sample. No lengthy interviews, affirmative action hurdles or concerns about income disparities since the threat of climate change demands immediate action.
It was a golden opportunity for “green voters” and anyone with an authentic Ken Salazar 10–gallon hat to put their lifestyle where their affectations are. It’s no longer enough to read the Chevy Volt review in the Consumer Reports Auto issue and dream of becoming a climate warrior.
Over one million Maryland, District and Northern Virginia residents were saved the trouble of traveling to the Amazon to sample carbon–neutral living at its finest. This eminently sustainable lifestyle was right here and didn’t involve an encounter with touchy–feely TSA guards. But what did progressives do when they were finally on the front lines of the battle against climate change?
These green exemplars didn’t behave any better than warmist deniers. They huddled in the nearest Starbucks and whined on their Facebook pages about the inhuman hardships they were suffering, all the while estimating how long it would be until the truffles defrost.
If these had been conservatives instead of “environmentally conscious Democrats” they could have turned a quick profit by selling carbon offsets until power was restored. (Then used the money to buy a gasoline generator in preparation for the next Act of Pepco.)
The eagerness of these progressives to re–embrace the electric power grid made them no different from the conservative control group that continued to use electricity blissfully unaware of how their selfish lifestyle threatens to submerge the Solomon Islands beneath the Pacific.
Where were the hardy greens recharging their iPads with solar panels, cooling their house with wind power, enjoying a siesta to adapt their body clocks to new temperature realities and using methane gas from their compost heap to cook dinner?
These examples were nowhere to be found. MD, VA and DC progressives weren’t any more prepared for sustainable living than your average Wal-Mart shopper. Instead we read about extension cords from houses with power snaking across driveways, alleys and streets to reach those without power. Which sounds a lot more like a PWC trailer park than it does Takoma Park.
Having sampled for a week the carbon–neutral lifestyle their environmental policies would condemn third–world residents to for a lifetime, progressives are now screaming for vengeance on any and all power companies.
The WaPost quotes Montgomery County Council President Roger Berliner (D–Tumbrel) demanding Pepco be hit with large fines. “You get to $20 million, you get to $30 million, to $40 million, then you start getting people’s attention,” Berliner said as he confused a quasi–judicial proceeding with an auction.
Large fines sound good and make for a great copy point in a re–election brochure, but fines alone won’t bring true accountability, because a fine doesn’t hold those at the top personally accountable.
The top executives don’t pay fines. The money comes out of stockholder dividends, which in turn penalizes investors — who may have been out of power themselves — and pension plans. The executives have to answer hostile questions during hearings and may hear rumblings in board meetings, but that’s about it.
Real accountability only comes when the executive feels your pain. My solution is any time more than 500 customers lose power, regardless of the reason, regulators flip a switch and all Pepco’s top executives lose power, too.
The executive’s electricity returns after the last customer rejoins the grid.
Finally, am I the only conservative bothered by the media’s use of the term “derecho?” What happened to “severe thunderstorms?” When I was a boy in Oklahoma — one of the largest consumers of thunderstorms and tornadoes in the nation — weather poodles never used this word.
But now its suddenly “derecho” this and “derecho” that. Could it be because “derecho” is also the Spanish word for “right turn?” Is this yet another mainstream media attempt to persuade the public to subconsciously associate conservatives (the “right wing”) with disaster and privation?
How about using the German word for environmentalist? If we’re going foreign, “umweltschützer” not only has that continental flair, but just saying it sounds like thunder in the distance.
