Is Georgia Attracting Another Gosnell?

ATLANTA, Oct. 22, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ — Ever since the Kermit Gosnell case exposed the grizzly truth behind the real abortion industry, many states have begun cracking down on abortion providers who put profits ahead of patient safety.

At least 58 unscrupulous abortion providers have been closed down after regulators started doing their jobs. Many have moved out of state rather than submit to the same regulatory environment that other non-ambulatory surgical facilities adhere to.

Not so in Georgia. Only one facility has closed its doors recently and that is only because the administrator retired.

Despite histories of documented malpractice, death, road rage assault on a woman, arrests, infections caused by unclean surgical instruments, inflicting nonsurgical injuries on patients and staff, and alleged Medicaid fraud, Georgia’s abortion providers continue to thrive.

The entire focus appears to be profit and speed, with at least 80 abortions performed daily –approximately 3 per hour — in the state. One facility in North Atlanta performs 4-6 abortions an hour in a facility that has been repeatedly found to be in violation of minimum regulatory standards.

“Georgia Right to Life’s (GRTL) mission is to end all elective abortions,” explained Suzanne Ward, GRTL’s Director of Public Relations and Education. “Until that goal is reached, we believe women deserve safe medical care.”

Ward added that because of lax oversight and reporting and lack of clarity as to who is responsible for enforcing state regulations, there is no way to know if even worse practices and conditions exist in Georgia’s abortion facilities.

As evidence that Georgia’s regulators are asleep at the wheel, at least two of the disgraced abortion providers from other states — North Carolina and Alabama — have easily found a safe home in Georgia.

These shocking facts behind Georgia’s broken regulatory system were collected by GRTL over several years from concerned citizens, facility personnel and women who have experienced the truth first hand.

The reports are stunning. They provide a behind-the-scenes look at an industry that is far from being the loving, women-centered care givers so skillfully portrayed to an unsuspecting public. “It is the true ‘War on Women’ it is not about reproductive choice or women’s health — it’s about money… and lots of it,” said Ward.

The abortion industry in Georgia is reported to be a $21 million industry attracting clients from all over the nation.

Through this comprehensive report, abortion providers are clearly seen for what they are: profit-driven merchants of death who often don’t even adhere to the most basic safety standards.

A brief list includes:

The Atlanta Women’s Medical Center (AWMC), which averages more than 30 abortions a day, had been granted waivers for 16 years to remain open despite the fact it did not have an elevator or a sprinkler system.
AWMC has not remedied this situation and yet it is still open performing abortion up to 24 weeks.
Lack of an elevator makes it difficult and sometimes dangerous to take still-recovering patients down 19 steps. Injuries to family members and staff have resulted from carrying semi-unconscious post abortive women down the stairs.
Plus, the facility’s cramped space has resulted in cuts and bruises to both patients and staff.
One patient had to be rushed to a hospital allegedly suffering from a perforated uterus.
The Georgia Office of Insurance Safety Fire claims AWMC does not need a sprinkler system, despite the fact it cited the facility for not having one as recently as last year.
Because the facility only has two exits and performs abortions on the second floor accessible only by stairs, lack of a sprinkler system could prove disastrous for unconscious and semi-conscious patients during a fire.

Examples of serious situations linked to other abortion providers include:

Tyrone Cecil Malloy at Old National GYN, currently facing Medicaid fraud charges, was issued a consent order after one of his late term abortion patients died.
Dianne Derzis, called the “abortion queen” of Alabama, operates the Columbus Women’s Health Organization despite the fact that she is not a licensed physician in Georgia.
Lois Turner, another unlicensed physician, operates the Preferred Women’s Health Center in Augusta.
Dr. Daniel McBrayer runs the Alpha GROUP GYN P.C. Former staff members have noted patients returning because of incomplete abortions, re-using disposable medical equipment, duct-taping tables and chairs used for surgery and recovery, passing infections through improperly sterilized equipment and using soiled blankets and sheets.
McBrayer also was charged with simple battery after he punched a woman in the face in front of her two small children.
In addition, McBrayer’s license was placed on probation for two years after he admitted to performing second trimester abortions outside an ambulatory surgical center.

“Until state regulators step up and do their job, Georgia women seeking an abortion will continue to be a risk and we won’t know if there’s a Kermit Gosnell working in the shadows,” Ward said.

She pointed out it was a failed regulatory system in Pennsylvania that allowed Kermit Gosnell run his grizzly operation for years.

“I fear what we don’t know may be even worse than what we do know,” Ward said.

Georgia showing that both sides are wrong on Voter ID

Nick Gray (CC)

Nick Gray (CC)

It’s been five years since Georgia enacted its Voter ID law, and it seems that the dire consequences predicted by the liberals have not happened. Contrary to their claims that the law would disenfranchise thousands of minority voters, the fact is that black and Hispanic voter turnout has increased dramatically, outpacing population growth.

Conversely, the law has not caused the discovery of rampant voter fraud either, as predicted by conservatives. While that may deflate the argument in other states that would seek to pass similar laws, the statistics do not necessarily prove there is no such thing as voter fraud. As the argument has gone in states where ID is not required for voting, proponents of Voter ID laws state they cannot prove there is fraud because no one is required to prove their identity in order to vote. The fact that Georgia has not seen cases of voter fraud since requiring ID doesn’t prove there were never cases of it in the first place. It merely proves that since people have to prove their identity in order to vote, they haven’t had any cases of people attempting to cast fraudulent ballots.

As for disenfranchising any voters, there were some voters whose ballots were not counted. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports:

Still, the law has had real and measurable effect for some voters: Since November 2008, the ballots of 1,586 Georgians didn’t count because of the law. (They arrived at the polls without a photo ID, cast provisional ballots, and did not return later with the required ID.) Overall, 13.6 million votes were cast in the state during the same period.

By the numbers, that works out to approximately 0.01% of all votes cast in Georgia since November 2008 were not counted as a result of people failing to comply with the Voter ID law there.

Happy Days! Twinkies to Return Soon!

Hostess_twinkiesNo need to test the longevity of your Twinkies purchased pre company breakup, your favorite snack may be back on the shelves as soon as July!

A Columbus, Georgia Dolly Madison plant is scheduled to be up and running by July. The reformulated Hostess Brands expects the most popular products to be back on the shelves this summer.

In a bankruptcy forced liquidation Hostess due in part to a lengthy impasse by striking workers, the brand and five of the bakeries were bought in a joint venture by two private equity companies.

The Dolly Madison plant in Columbus, Ga., will be the first to reopen. The ‘new’ bakery is inviting former workers to apply for positions. There has been no talk of unions in the new company.

In its new iteration, the company will hire 200 workers for jobs starting this summer. Another 100 jobs will follow. Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson said her town is better off with the opportunities — whether they’re union or not.

“I think we’re very happy to have the jobs back; 300 jobs is better than zero jobs,” she said.

Divided We Stand: Echoing Calls To Secede From The Union

Yes, you read that correctly. Your eyes are not deceiving you. Divided We Stand.

In less than a week since this nation re-elected Barack Obama, there are calls from numerous States to secede from The United States of America. We are no longer a United Nation. We are very much a Divided Nation. Many are standing together, calling for a peaceful divide.

The famous declaration for unity that you are familiar with has been attributed to Aesop’s fables, as well as John Dickinson’s Revolutionary War song, “The Liberty Song”, which was was published first in the Boston Gazette in 1768.

However, it was Patrick Henry that made the historic exclamation in what was to be his last public speech:

“Let us trust God, and our better judgment to set us right hereafter. United we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions which must destroy that union upon which our existence hangs.”

Patrick Henry’s declaration came at a very pivotal point in America’s history. It was March 1799, and Mr. Henry was “denouncing The Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions”, which argued that the two states “had the right and the duty to declare unconstitutional any acts of Congress not authorized by The Constitution”.

This speech took such a toll on Patrick Henry that after the speech his “near lifeless body” was carried offstage and into the nearest tavern. He died just two months later.

We have now reached another pivotal point in this nation’s history.

In the November 6 election, the divide between the candidates was a little more than 3 million votes. Barack Obama received 61,910,594 votes, and Mitt Romney received 58,654,765 votes. When you look at the total number of votes cast, it is almost a clear cut down the middle. We are most definitely a divided nation. We can no longer stand together, when we are so obviously divided over so many issues. We have reached a breaking point that threatens to be anything but peaceful if things are not handled in a way in which every voice is heard and considered.

Citizens in Louisiana are now petitioning the White House to “Peacefully grant the State of Louisiana to withdraw from the United States of America”. The petition was created the day after the election, and has nearly 8,000 signatures in just 5 days.

It appears that this petition from Louisiana was the first of many to have been submitted to the “We The People” site on the official White House website. The site claims to be “Your Voice In OUR Government”. The question remains whether or not the Government will hear the many voices being raised. It is highly doubtful, as they have turned their noses up in arrogance towards We The People numerous times before.

It’s not just the state of Louisiana, the list of State Petitions calling to peacefully “withdraw from the United States of America” is growing by the day.

Country singer Charlie Daniel’s is suggesting that “the South” secede from The Union; however, there are Northern States that are not so happy with the government, and are also calling to leave the Union. At the time of this article’s posting, the states with open petitions are the following:

Alabama
Colorado

Florida
Georgia

Indiana

Kentucky
Mississippi

Montana
New Jersey
New York
North Carolina
North Dakota

Oregon
Texas

While Louisiana appears to be the first state to start a post-election petition to actually withdraw from The United States, in 2010, Missouri’s Legislative House gave “preliminary approval to state sovereignty measure”, which asserted the 10th Amendment to the US Constitution. It was not a call to secede from the Union, but rather a stand for States’ Rights.

In Texas, Peter Morrison, “a high ranking” Republican County Treasurer, made the declaration for The Lone Star State to secede, stating:

“Why should Vermont and Texas live under the same government?”

The winds of change are coming. The echoing calls to seperate are growing louder and stronger.

Barack Obama claimed in both victory speeches that we are not “a collection of Red States and Blue States, but we are The United States”. These words are empty and mean nothing coming from a man who has done so much to divide this nation. The people are not happy. We are no longer united. We The People are standing, asking to peacefully divide from the albatross that is Barack Obama. If the request is not considered, it very well may come as a demand, which will not be so peaceful.

Oh the Hermanity – Cain Quits!! Announces 'Plan B' [Video]

At the grand opening of his Georgia campaign headquarters on Saturday afternoon, Herman Cain announced that he is suspending his Presidential campaign.

Appearing with his wife Gloria, Presidential hopeful Herman Cain hinted that the recent allegations of sexual impropriety have pushed him from actively pursuing  the presidency.

Mr. Cain also announced that he would soon announce which remaining Presidential candidate he will endorse which speculatively means that the suspension of his 2012 Presidential campaign will soon officially turn into ending the campaign.

Near the end of his suspension speech, Cain also referred to “plan B” which refers to a not yet fully-functional website http://thecainsolutions.com/.

“Becoming President was plan a,” Cain started, “As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my Presidential campaign.”

Suspension, as a CNN.com article reports, is not the same thing as dropping out:

Because he did not officially drop out of the race, Cain will still be allowed to raise and spend campaign funds as if he were still seeking the nomination.

But with Cain’s move looking more like an attempt at a graceful bow-out, contributions to his suspended campaign are likely to be minimal.

Video of the announcement is below:

Courageous! The Movie

I am not one for going to the movie theater, preferring instead to watch movies from the comfort of my own couch. It just makes logical sense to me. It does not cost a drop in the bucket what the cost of going to a movie theater costs these days. I can have all the snacks I want at a mere fraction of the cost, and most importantly, I can actually pause the movie and go to the powder room when necessary!

I’m sure it came as quite a surprise to my husband when he received an email from me telling him that I wanted to go see this movie! I knew we had an upcoming trip out of town, away from the kids, and knowing how much he loves going to the movie theater, I thought this would be a great surprise for him to have me actually say I want to go to a movie theater.

I had seen the preview several times, but did not read any movie reviews. I have found that so often, the movies I like are given bad reviews by other reviewers. Knowing this movie is a wholesome movie made me stay away from reviews even more.

I have visited the main page of the website, but did not want to go any deeper until after I saw the movie. Needless to say, I was completely surprised by the entire plot.

This is just a blurb from the actual synopsis of the Courageous website:

From the writers of Fireproof and Facing the Giants comes a story about four law enforcement officers whose lives are deeply tested as they embrace their calling to serve and to protect. As crime fighters, they must face danger every day. Yet when tragedy hits close to home, they are left wrestling with their hopes, their faith, and their priorities as men.

Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, they face danger every day. Yet when tragedy strikes close to home, these fathers are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, and their faith. From this struggle will come a decision that changes all of their lives. With action, drama, and humor, the fourth film from Sherwood Pictures embraces God’s promise to "turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers." Souls will be stirred, and hearts will be challenged to be … courageous!

Having seen all of the movies that have been produced by Sherwood Church in Albany, Georgia, I thought I knew what to expect. A heart-felt movie that dealt with real life, but not with quite the same depth and reality as Hollywood. This movie provides very little distinction between the production quality of professionals and those who are called by God for the purpose of bringing Him glory in their movies. That is- with the major exception of the foul language that seems to be a "necessity" in every Hollywood movie.

Please do not get me wrong- unfortunately, I have grown accustomed to the harsh language that peppers our world today, and in fact, at times have been known to speak in a way not so becoming of a lady. Sadly, I’ve grown so accustomed to this reality that there are very few times I’m actually phased by foul language. However, in many movies that come out of Hollywood today, it’s as if they just stuck a four-letter word here and there to seem cool and acceptable to their audience.

There were times in this movie that I was literally hanging on to the edge of my seat, anticipating what was coming next! There was a moment of actual fear, as I became so lost in the story that it was almost reality for me. There were times I laughed. And there were many times I cried. It hit home for me because of past experiences in my life.

I was not aware of the fact that the movie deals with the tragic death of a loved one. The raw emotion portrayed by the family members who lost their loved one struck a cord in me that cannot be explained. Only those who have lost a loved one in a horrible tragedy know that raw emotion. Only those who have clung to the hem of His garment in the aftermath of the tragic death can know exactly what I’m talking about.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this movie! Support a Christian movie that has a lot to offer- entertainment, wisdom, knowledge, strength, comfort, laughter, tears, action, romance, and challenges. I specifically challenge any man who is a father to go see this movie. It very well could change your life, and how you view the calling on your life.

While it is a very well made movie, technically, in my opinion, it is a movie made from the talents and gifts of many every day, ordinary people. It is not a movie made by the Hollywood stars and starlets who see millions of dollars per movie. The real-life quaintness was refreshing to me.

If you go to the movies to critique the camera angles, lighting and video technique, this may not be the movie for you. However, I still recommend it to you. I simply challenge you look through the eyes of your heart rather than the eyes of the technical critic in you.

".. honor begins at home."

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid;
do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Cop Killer Troy Davis Gets "Last Minute" Reprieve: Or Not, Executed at 11:08

Troy Davis, a convicted cop killer from Georgia has been given a literal ‘last minute’ reprieve from his 7:00 PM date with the lethal injection needle at the Jackson Prison, where he has been on death row.  Davis, whose case has received international attention, was convicted of shooting a Savannah police officer in 1989.

According to his lawyers, he has been given a temporary reprieve to allow the Supreme Court to review his case. Attorneys for Davis have been asking for a retrial based on several witnesses that have, over the years, recanted their testimony that helped convict Davis of the crime.

Authorities have stopped short of using the word “stay” of execution, but only that Davis has been given a temporary reprieve. Crowds of nearly 200 supporters for Davis went from sorrow to jubilation only a few minutes after 7:00 PM Wednesday night as it was revealed that the condemned man had received the reprieve.

This is an ongoing story. We will publish more information as it becomes available.

It appears that Mr. Davis has not been granted a reprieve. He has been executed in accordance with the sentence handed down by a jury of his peers. As of 11:08, this convicted cop killer has been dealt the punishment the American justice system awarded him.

Selling Ice to Eskimos

A Georgia company that makes chopsticks is not only growing rapidly, but is exporting chopsticks to foreign countries.

Georgia Chopsticks is located in Americus, Georgia, just a couple of hours south of Atlanta. The owner, Jae Lee, said that his company is producing about two million chopsticks a day and is exporting them to China and Japan in huge numbers.

The poplar and gum trees that Lee uses in his chopsticks is popular with overseas and domestic consumers.

Imagine that – selling chopsticks .. to the Chinese.

Government Regulation Kills Entrepreneurial Spirit – Again

Midway, Georgia Police shut down a one-day old small business siting a lack of permits. The enterprising young entrepreneurs had decided that instead of working for someone else, they would open a business and make their own way – their way.

The business was a lemonade stand run by three girls trying to save up for a trip to a water park The cost of the licenses required to run the stand – $50.00 per day. It would be nearly impossible for the enterprising young ladies to raise the money required for their excursion with the weight of the local government holding their profits hostage.

One girl, 14-year-old Casity Dixon, says the three had to listen to police and shut down.

The girls are now back to performing tasks for their parents to earn their money, realizing that government regulation has effectively strangled their enterprise when it had barely a chance to get started.

Georgia’s New Illegal Alien Law – Butt Out Mexico and 10 Other Countries

Since when do other countries have a say in our law making procedures or any other issue related to American citizens? They don’t. Why are Mexico and ten other countries filing court papers in support of efforts to halt Georgia’s tough new immigration enforcement law? The law authorizes law enforcement to check the immigration status of a suspect who cannot provide accepted identification and to detain and hand over to federal authorities anyone found to be in the country illegally.

I really don’t see the problem with Georgia’s or Arizona’s “Illegal Alien Laws.” If our government would attempt to do their job – individual states would not have to create these “new” laws. But since laws like this face tough challenges from the Obama administration, they may not be implemented any time soon.

Other countries have far stricter immigration laws than the U.S. does. It’s no wonder there is such an “invasion” of illegals into the U.S. Instead of being punished for breaking the law, illegal aliens are rewarded for making the choice to come to the U.S. with access to social services, education and health care. Other countries use large fines and imprisonment to hinder their illegal alien problems.

The U.S. gives illegals all that they need to come here and live and survive. This happens a lot in my home state of Kentucky. Illegal immigrants come here to work in the tobacco fields, get paid fairly well, some tax free. Most come here on work permits, but they forget to go back to there home country when the permit runs out. Then start a family while you the taxpayer foots the bill.  Adding insult to injury, farm hands are often paid in cash and much of that money is sent back home tax free. There are entire check-cashing and wire services just to service this activity.

Eleven foreign nations are suing the state of Georgia because those countries don’t like our illegal alien laws. Leftist socialist groups like the ACLU and the SEIU are helping them to do it. What will most likely happen is these 11 countries and the two leftist socialist groups will tie this up in court – costing again taxpayers even more money.

I am 100% against any immigrant entering my country illegally.

If you leave whatever country you live in and come across the border into America without first applying for the proper documentation – then it is illegal – you should be detained and removed and have a couple of years ban placed on you from entering the U.S.
