The American Gift That Truly Keeps on Giving

Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and an American tradition that has evolved into a world-renowned holiday that brings us the season of the unconditional giving of oneself to others.

While the giving of ourselves may include various different forms of  the giving of one’s time,  love, money, and material things all wrapped up in brightly colored ribbons and bows, today I’d like to celebrate what I consider to be some of the most wonderful gifts being given this year from deep within the hearts and souls of true Patriotic Americans. The gift I speak of is our largely unique, longstanding America freedom from an over-bearing, debt-spending, out of control, tyrannical government that has America on the verge of a financial and moral collapse. The gift of freedom.

America’s collective Christian faith has been at the forefront of America’s unity in of our battle against an oppressive ruling class government since the early days of our founding, starting with our Declaration of Independence from our first oppressor Great Britain, to the world battles against assorted tyrannical madmen such as Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, Idi Amin, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein, Hugo Chavez etc. Millions of people have migrated to America to escape oppressive, tyrannical rulers and governments for centuries.

That brings us to the current battle in America today against the most dangerous oppressor of modern American history, one which our Constitution has protected us from for some 235 years: Big Government Socialism. Today we no longer have a government that serves the people. Every single prosperous country in the world that has accepted this stealth form of oppressive Communism masquerading as utopian socialism built upon false share-the-wealth promises has ended in chaos and poverty the world over. The prime example of the day that proves this point: The European debt crisis. When taking an objective look into that elitist-ruling-class manufactured crisis that has brought down the governments of Italy and Greece with several more to follow, we see just where that utopian European Socialism leads us once again. The elite are getting bailed out by the working class over and over again without being allowed a voice in the conversation. Crony-capitalist bankers and government-connected thieves are prospering while the working class faces economic Armageddon in what is now called the European Union.

The Socialism-induced collapse of the EU brings us full-circle to what now appears to be America’s last line of defense against the ruling-class oppression of today’s European-style Socialism that now threatens to infect America and wipe out her historic personal freedoms and enduring prosperity. The last line of defense I speak of here, is the coalition of Constitutional conservatives, true American Patriots, to include the all-important group of information sharing citizens, Tea Party political activists, and internet freedom-fighters working 24/7 to inform the public of the dangers of today’s all-too-powerful, constitution-trampling U.S. government. Through this massive effort of self-less giving, these Patriots are indeed our last, best hope of avoiding the stealth European Socialism that now has all of Europe engulfed in poverty, chaos and an uncertain future. America must be made aware of these dangers before they engulf America as they have all of Europe today.

To all of the Patriotic citizen journalists across America, including the engaged stay at home Moms, the concerned senior citizens, the American Freedom groups, the Tea Party warriors, the true Constitutional conservatives of Congress, the information-sharing networks and all of the Patriotic bloggers who continue to give selflessly and tirelessly to stop the big government oppression we are under attack from today, thank you. A heartfelt thank you for uniting to give all of America the greatest gift of all this holiday season: The gift of continuing American freedom and prosperity that has made this nation the greatest nation on earth.  Thank all of you Patriots, and Merry Christmas

Footnote: As I consider myself to be a citizen journalist writing here at CDN to give the gift of freedom through insightful information-sharing, I would like to add the following info-byte from the UK that shows us the relevancy of certain anti-Americans that constantly denounce and minimize the Christian faith in America, (as in the war on Christmas) in order to install European-style socialism into America:

From: http://www.soon.org.uk/christmas.htm :

Today in the West, not many people consider the religious meaning to Christmas. Most people in UK or Europe will not go to a religious church meeting, even at Christmas. It has become a busy race to spend money on presents, and get ready for the Day. In UK, our shops stay open till late Christmas Eve and often open again on Boxing Day with the cut-price ‘sales’. (Not much holiday for the poor shop workers!) A visitor from another world would think that Christmas was a festival to the gods of money and shopping.

Capitalist America, to Be or Not to Be Free

According to Barack Obama, the Democrat party and Occupy Wall Street, society’s ills are primarily the fault of the entrepreneurial class.  The rich and greedy.  Those evil corporations who sap the life blood out of working class men and women.  For maximum profit.  Servants to the god of mammon, capitalists defraud their workers of time and energy compensating them only as much as required to keep their work force at work and generating fat profits for the fat cats.  The poor get poorer and the rich get richer.  Business owners obscenely profiting off of the noble sweat of their enslaved and powerless labor force.  The exploitation of the common man.

This is the worldview of the liberal/progressive.  The socialist, Marxist and anti-capitalist.  And the President of the United States.

As the world’s foremost anti-capitalist, Barack Obama promises to punish “the rich.”  Though the top 1% of Americans pay 37% of America’s tax revenue, Obama claims they should pay more.  They should “pay their fair share.”  As defined by Obama.

Instead of celebrating achievers as examples to follow, Obama has spread a malignant contagion of class warfare, deep resentment and good old fashioned envy.  This manipulation of the darker side of human nature is the most sinister and ruthless kind of political tactic.  Turning brother against brother.  Blaming “the haves” and inciting the “have-nots.”  Scapegoating is nothing new.  Class envy and racial hatred are tried and true tools of despots and dictators.  The world has seen this drama played out before.  In Turkey, Germany, Cambodia and Bosnia.  With horrific consequence.

Since William Bradford introduced market forces into the Plymouth Colony, America has been the land of capitalism.  And capitalism favors the industrious.  The risk-takers.  The American economy was designed to provide a greater reward to those who innovate, invest, build, develop, create and hire.  And when success is achieved, all Americans benefit.

Early American entrepreneurs grew the economy and in the process, grew the new nation.  They provided innovative products and services.  They created jobs and in some cases entire new industries.  As a result of their efforts, tax revenues increased as the employers, employees, vendors, consumers and investors all participated in free market capitalism.  The positive ripple effect in America and throughout the world is hard to overestimate.

This is the economic template that built America.  And it can build America again.

But, business owners today face a grim reality.  Innovation, risk-taking, investment, growth and hiring used to result in higher profits.  Profits, of course, being the incentive for being in business in the first place.  Higher profits resulted in further investment and growth.  More jobs.  More production.  More profits.  Leading to more investment, growth and jobs.  It’s a neat little cycle.  And it works.  However, with Obama’s promise to increasingly “tax the rich,” there is no incentive to grow and increase profits.  With the burden of Obamacare and the punitive costs associated with compliance, there is no incentive to hire more employees.  Businesses and business owners want to grow.  But, they will not invite punishment.

These thoughts have been clearly expressed by big and small business owners alike.  Steve Wynn, Las Vegas casino mogul, was very clear in July of this year when he said, “… I’m telling you that the business community in this country is frightened to death of the weird political philosophy of the President of the United States.  And until he’s gone, everybody’s going to be sitting on their thumbs.”  Small businessman Bill Looman, the owner of U.S. Crane LLC, gained recent notoriety as he proclaims loud and clear from his company trucks, “We are not hiring until Obama is gone.”

Such is the world of Ayn Rand’s famous 1957 novel, Atlas Shrugged.  As the Atlas of Greek Mythology bore the world on his shoulders, Rand’s novel portrays business owners and entrepreneurs holding up the financial world while simultaneously supporting the non-productive members of society.  Her words seem prophetic as she describes a world where the job-creators have finally had enough.  Punished by excessive taxation and regulated to the point of extinction, the producers of society go on strike.  Ceasing production, eliminating jobs and bringing the economy to its knees.

So, what if today’s producers and job-creators decided to slow down or stop producing?  What would happen if American entrepreneurs and business owners refused to take risks, spend money, expand their businesses and hire new employees?  The unemployment rate would shoot up.  Jobs would be in short supplyProduction would diminish.  Construction jobs would grind to a halt.  The economy would slow to a crawlTax revenues would diminish.  State, county and city governments would struggle to meet their obligations.  Some would be pushed into default.  The federal government, given the ability to print money out of thin air, would continue to spend indiscriminately.  Federal printing presses would go into overdrive, increasing the money supply and eventually resulting in massive inflation.  Rapidly climbing food and energy prices would hurt those least able to afford it.  Welcome to America, 2011.  Like Rand’s Atlas, American businesses are beginning to shrug.

The reason is clear.  Business owners and entrepreneurs are afraid.  Of the President of the United States.  And they have good reason.  Obama is a socialist.  A Marxist.  A redistributionist.  He lives and breathes “social justice.”  His core beliefs are at odds with the economic structure and foundational truths that made America the greatest economic power in world history.  And he’s not going to change.

And that’s the problem.  American businesses do not face a problem of “uncertainty” as is often claimed.  The problem is, they are quite certain about the future they face under Barack Obama.  Punishing  taxes and burdensome regulations.  A future of government intrusion and interference in the free market.  A future where government exacts such harsh penalties for doing business that it squelches the entrepreneurial drive and creates a disincentive for any new businesses or ideas to be born.

As a capitalist nation, the U.S. economy does indeed rest on the shoulders of those brave adventure seekers among us.  Those bold innovators who choose to risk their time, energy, ingenuity and capital in pursuit of profit by producing something that the world wants and needs and at a price that the world is willing to pay.

As the American economy teeters on the brink of depression, American businesses wait and watch.  The presidential election of 2012 will be the tipping point for the American economy.  If Barack Obama wins a second term as President of the United States, capitalism will be fighting for its very survival.  If capitalism cannot survive in America, it cannot survive anywhere for long.  And where capitalism cannot survive, political freedom cannot exist.

“The record of history is absolutely crystal clear. There is no alternative way, so far discovered, of improving the lot of the ordinary people that can hold a candle to the productive activities that are unleashed by a free enterprise system.”  -Milton Friedman

What Really Happened In The Ivory Coast? Get Ready, It is Coming Here!!

I have recently come across some information about the situation in Ivory Coast, West Africa that once again points out the fallacy in today’s news media. I had heard media reports about the civil war there, what reports there were, but certainly did not hear the truth. We were told that election fraud took place and that the man who won the presidential race there did so by nefarious means. Let me relate the truth to you. I cannot identify my source as this person still lives in Ivory Coast and their life would be in grave danger if the Muslim despots in charge knew the truth was being told and who was telling the story factually. I can tell you that I trust the source of my information completely. I don’t trust the media in this country at all.

The Christian candidate, Laurent Gbagbo, was voted into office by the people in a voting process monitored for fairness by outside entities. Upon taking office, President Gbagbo was told by President Nicolas Sarkozy of France that France wanted 80% of the mineral  resources of Ivory Coast since they had been a French colony. Cote d’ Ivoire, the official name, is a country very rich in minerals, about 34 different kinds all total. Mr. Gbagbo said no more than 50% would be given to France, that the resources of this mineral rich country belonged to the people who lived there and should be used for the benefit of its citizens.

Rather than accepting half of this nation’s resources, Mr. Sarkozy, a New World Order proponent, got together with the United Nations, Barack Obama, and other European leaders and demanded that Gbagbo resign and allow the Muslim candidate to take control. When Mr. Gbagbo refused, the UN and their puppets armed Muslim rebels in the north of the country. These rebels began a reign of terror similar to that which occurred in Rwanda in the 1990’s. The presidential palace compound in Abidjan was bombed and rocketed mercilessly by French and UN aircraft.

A Muslim rebel army was formed by arming young men who then began a wholesale slaughter of men, women, and children, often cutting babies from the wombs of pregnant women. These drugged up animals slaughtered anyone who opposed them, destroyed homes and churches, and stole anything of value they could find. Anyone who was caught outside was likely to be killed for their indiscretion. And, as is normal with these people, many young men were kidnapped to be forced into fighting for a cause they detested.

After several months of fighting the rebels took control and, under the guidance of France, the UN, the United States, and European nations, these people deposed and arrested President Gbagbo, and installed his Muslim opponent, Allassane Ouattara, who had essentially promised to be a puppet of France and give the resources demanded in exchange for power, and the money left over. The civil war is over but the persecution of the people has not ended. Torture and murder are the tools of the people in charge in Ivory Coast, and many other nations in that region.

The civil war wasn’t reported like the Rwanda massacre but that is the nature of today’s media in the United States. The United States media has an agenda that is not favorable to Christians, or anyone else espousing freedom. What we have seen in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Syria, Ivory Coast, and other countries is coming here, and very soon. The “Occupy Wall Street” movement is just the beginning of the war against freedom that is being waged in our nation. Those of us who stand up for God, the Constitution, freedom, liberty, personal responsibility, and the like have been targeted by the George Soros funded leftists who have joined forces with labor union bosses, Communists, and Muslim terrorists to destroy the freedom we have known for 235 years. Once they have destroyed us they will wind up fighting each other for the spoils of war and are likely to install Sharia law as the law of the land.

What will happen to the radical leftist women when this happens? Are Katie Couric, Rachel Maddow, Rosie O’Donnell, and the other liberal women in the media and Hollywood going to be given a pass by these people because they are liberal? Will the “sexual orientation” of Rosie and Rachel be accepted by Muslims? I doubt it but that is not my concern. Once they get their way I say “they made their bed let them sleep in it”. My concern is the lives and liberty of those who will choose to stand up for freedom, and those too old or too young to do anything but live their lives in terror and slavery, or be murdered.

This is what we face as Americans today. It will come here, and soon. As a matter of fact, it has started here already. The evil forces who have slaughtered hundreds of thousands on the African continent and west Asian countries have their sights set on an American populace that only wants to live in peace and be allowed to raise our families and live our lives according to our religion and our customs. We are already finding judges willing to accept Sharia law in their courts in the name of “equality”. Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey has appointed a Muslim, Sharia compliant, judge to the state court.

There is nothing equal about Islam. It is not a religion, it is a political system designed to give absolute power to evil and brutal men. Islam is a pagan cult of torture, murder, rape, and brutality. Islam gives no rights to women, no rights to any non-Muslim, and gives these despotic animals the right to beat and mutilate their wives and daughters. It gives Muslims the right to kill anyone who will not bow down to their pagan idol Mohammed. If homosexuals are not happy with our current system they will love Sharia law. I wonder how much parading and protesting they will be doing when the repercussions go beyond name calling and derision to being hanged or stoned to death.

I wonder how the liberals who hate our system so much are going to like the system they espouse installing. I wonder what they will think when they wake up one day and find out that communism and Islam aren’t so great after all. I wonder what they will do when they realize that the utopia they have asked for turns out to be a “Nightmare on Elm Street” scenario.

It is time to take this threat seriously if you haven’t already done so. I hear so many people saying “it won’t happen here” or “it can’t happen here”. It can happen here and it will happen here if we don’t get very busy very fast. It is too late to be fearful of Obama and his Axis of Evil friends to the point of electing “anyone but Obama”. It is time for people who are still asleep to wake up and smell the revolution of evil coming our way.
It is time to repent, to turn from our wicked ways and to look to God for forgiveness and mercy.

I look to 2 Chronicles 7:14 as a means of comfort:

“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and will pray and seek my face and will turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear them from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

I know that if people will follow this one verse of the Holy Bible our nation can be saved from the evil hovering over it, waiting to swoop down on us like a hawk and carry us away to slavery or death. We need to live by the entirety of Scripture but this verse sums up the situation rather well.

It is up to us, We the People, to save our land from evil. If we look to politicians we will be lost. We must look to God and be willing to do our part to save our land from those who intend to rule over us as slaves. Everywhere we look in the world we can see evil rising up to enslave the people. We can avoid this but we cannot avoid it by sitting in our living rooms and fretting. We need prayer, we need repentance, we need courage, and we need action.

If you vote for someone without knowing precisely what they stand for or vote for someone “not as bad as Obama” you may very well vote for the one who will slow the train down but continue to steer that train to Auschwitz. You may wind up voting for a New World order globalist supported by the left-wing American media. All of us need to seek God and His plan for our lives and for our nation. All of us need to research the candidates. All of us need to be in prayer for wisdom in our voting.

Remember that the lesser of two evils is still evil and those who claim to rescue you from Obama’s Marxist policies may have their own set of Marxist-lite policies that you find acceptable because they aren’t quite as bad as the other option. Freedom is not free, someone has to buy it. Our freedom of today has been bought with the blood of the generations who came before us. To preserve freedom means to be willing to die for that freedom if necessary. The first step is to work through the political system to preserve our way of life but we cannot preserve anything if we are willing to compromise out of fear, to accept the unacceptable because it isn’t as bad as the other unacceptable.

Faith, prayer, courage, and the willingness to stand for truth, justice, and the American Way will see us through if we are willing to stand by God and the Constitution. Our founding fathers looked to God when forming this nation and we must look to God to preserve it. I don’t want to wake up some morning and find out God has given up on us and slavery has taken over.

I submit this in the name of the Most Holy Trinity, in faith, with the responsibility given to me by Almighty God to honor His work and not let it die from neglect.

Latest threat to your liberty… bag fees?

Someone needs to let Sen. Mary Landrieu know that the commercials for Southwest are supposed to be funny because apparently she didn’t get the joke.  She thinks we honestly need a bag police:

Airlines would no longer be allowed to charge passengers for their first checked bag under a bill being introduced in Congress ahead of the holiday travel season.

Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., announced the legislation Tuesday, describing it as way spare passengers from “unfair fees” while encouraging them to ease up a bit on the carry-on bags.

“Air travel can be a stressful experience for many reasons, but unfair fees for basic amenities should not be one of them,” Landrieu said in a statement.

At first glance, this looks like just one more laughable idea coming out of Washington.  But this proposal is a perfect example of the way politicians are trying to make government the solution to every problem in life – and how that is destroying our freedom.

All people are born with a God-given right to liberty – which means a person can do anything he wants with himself and to himself as long as he doesn’t violate the rights of someone else.  After all, if a person’s actions affect only himself, why should anyone else have the authority to tell him he has to stop?

So if a person voluntarily decides that it is worthwhile for him to give an airline $120 to carry his bags to a far off city, and there is an airline who is willing to carry his bag to that city for $120 – what business is that of anyone else – least of all government?  Who has been harmed in this voluntary exchange?

No one is having these bag fees forced upon them.  Nonetheless, Sen. Landrieu is determined to end the horror of allowing consumers the freedom to choose how to spend their own money.  As she said when she announced this legislation:

“Passengers have been nickeled and dimed for far too long and something has to be done about it.”

She’s right.  Passengers who don’t want to pay bag fees ought to do something.  Something drastic.  Something like… choosing to fly Southwest Airlines.  That sure is an awful lot to ask, but hopefully Americans will be able endure that kind of overwhelming hardship.

If flying Southwest is too much of a burden, people can choose to drive… or take a train… or stay home.  These are the kinds of choices everyone has to make in a free society.

Granted, Sen. Mary Landrieu may be sincere in believing that it’s a bad decision to pay bag fees.  In that case she can choose not to pay them.  But she has no authority to impose that decision on everyone else.

The airline industry expects to operate on a 0.7% profit margin this year.  Not exactly windfall profits to say the least.  So if the bag fees are eliminated, they will have no choice but to make that revenue up somewhere else – whether Sen. Landrieu likes it or not.

It’s sad that this basic point has to be explained to members of Congress, but the bottom line is this: if the airlines don’t collect at least enough in fees to cover the cost of operating the plane, they’re going to stop flying altogether.

Sen. Landrieu – like most politicians – seems convinced that government is the solution to all our problems.  But freedom means having choices.  If she is successful in eliminating bag fees, she will also be eliminating a choice for the airlines in how to run their business and a choice for the consumer in how they want to travel.  In other words, everyone will be a little less free.

And in return for giving up that freedom, all that will be accomplished is forcing the airlines to shift their fees to a different aspect of the flight experience.  What a brilliant plan!

When A Soldier Comes Home

I cannot take credit for this post, as it came to me in an email, and I felt it was too good not to pass on to as many people as possible. It most certainly puts things in perspective.

May God bless, protect and keep our soldiers and their families. Without their sacrifices, we would not know the freedoms we know today. May we never forget that they hold the freedom we take for granted every day in their very hands!

When A Soldier Comes Home

When a soldier comes home, he finds it hard…

…to listen to his son whine about being bored.

… to keep a straight face when people complain about potholes.

… to be tolerant of people who complain about the hassles of getting ready for work.

… to be understanding when a co-worker complains about a bad night’s sleep.

… to be silent when people pray to God for a new car.

… to control his panic when his wife tells him he needs to drive slower.

… to be compassionate when a businessman expresses a fear of flying.

… to keep from laughing when anxious parents say they’re afraid to send their kids off to summer camp.

… to keep from ridiculing someone who complains about hot weather.

… to control his frustration when a colleague gripes about his coffee being cold.

… to remain calm when his daughter complains about having to walk the dog.

… to be civil to people who complain about their jobs.

… to just walk away when someone says they only get two weeks of vacation a year.

… to be forgiving when someone says how hard it is to have a new baby in the house.

The only thing harder than being a Soldier…

Is loving one.

What OWS Wants Should Terrify You

Occupy Wall Street can’t seem to get it’s message unified, even among themselves, but I think that in the minds of many of the more disillusioned participants is a vague vision. One that was put to paper first in 1961 in the pages of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. This vision should terrify you.

THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren’t only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General.

These words begin Harrison Bergeron , a short story by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. The concept so bizarre and inconceivable, that it was published first as a work of fantasy. The idea that government can form an agency whose entire raison d’être is to make every citizen equal, and devise enforcement for such a policy, is the ultimate in crimes against the individual and the death of private innovation and motivation. It is evil empowered – the literal smothering of Ego and will by government sanctioned force.

Yet, isn’t that what the 99% want? Aren’t they vaguely ( or not so, in some cases) suggesting that the government step in and take down the 1%? Aren’t they pining, not to excel and propel themselves out of disparity and helplessness, but to have someone else drag down those who do not share in their misery and lack of motivation? Aren’t they suggesting that their entire base of failure is because of a small number of people who do not define their existence and motivation by socially accepted definitions of limits on success and prosperity? Maybe it isn’t even that deep.. maybe it is pure denial of responsibility and cohesive blame at the nexus of their lashing out without a defined path to resolution. Regardless of the “why”, the “how” that they are driving towards isn’t just the end of the individual and of American Exceptionalism, but also the entire basis of the Great Experiment. It is the end of America as it was intended.

Read Harrison Bergeron in its ten page entirety here and then, for a fantastically terrifying and inspiring adaptation see the trailer for 2081 below ( and then go buy it. YAY, Capitalism!)

** Quick update: I was made aware that the Handicapper General in 2081 is none other than Tammy Bruce! How awesome is THAT? Follow her on twitter here!

Freedom of Religion- Except in the O.C.

Despite the fact that this great nation was founded on religious freedom, officials in San Juan Capistrano, California, are trying to deny this basic right to Chuck and Stephanie Fromm. The Fromms hold weekly Bible studies with their friends in the SJC home they live in. T Officials from SJC claim the Fromms are operating as a “church” because it is a regular gathering of more than three people. There have been times that the Fromms have had upwards of fifty people at their Bible study, and all are without incident.

via ABC News- Courtesy Nicole Fromm

The Fromms have been fined $300 and are facing further fines of $500 per meeting if any more “religious” meetings are held. The gathering of friends have not caused any disturbances according to neighbors of the Fromms. Their neighbors have even written letters to the city in support of the Fromms.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

1st Amendment of The United States Constitution

Liberals are quick to throw the 1st Amendment up in their right to free speech arguments, but conveniently forget about the 1st Amendment guaranteeing freedom of religion and the exercise thereof. The Fromms have assembled peacefully to exercise their religious freedom with their Bible studies, yet have been issued fines for it.

The city official cited that “a regular gathering of more than three people” is the reason they are considering the Bible studies a “church”. “A regular gathering of more than three people”, could that mean your weekly friendly poker game with your four or five buddies could possibly get you fined for having “church”?

It is tempting to speculate that during these hard economic times the City of San Juan Capistrano is trying to make up some of their lost revenue with frivolous fines. Maybe it is an overzealous liberal official that wants to make it hard to be a Christian in SJT? Either way, there is no question that it is an attack on the freedoms of a citizen(s) of the United States of America.

For anyone that resides in San Juan Capistrano, please contact your elected officials and city offices and help the Fromms correct this wrong. Even if this story does not directly affect you, the next time the city officials attack personal freedom, it could be your freedom they are coming after.

911 Remembered

Ten years ago on September, 11th, an icon of American capitalism was attacked and destroyed by Islamic Terrorists. The Twin Towers were not only representative of New York City’s modern architecture, but they were the symbol of America’s powerhouse economy, built in a country of freedom and liberty.

That was before – this is now:

Because of two Jihadist pilots, we are no longer the country we were before that day. Many of our freedoms have been infringed and virtually wiped out of our everyday life. From warrantless wiretaps to TAS’ groping searches, Americans can no longer feel free to say what they please or go long distances unmolested on airplanes. Loved ones can no longer walk to the airport gates to say goodbye to their families or friends. Our “open-door” immigration policy is still in effect and more and more terrorists have been infiltrating our country. Our Southern Border is insecure. Islamic Jihadist literature has been found in the washes used by Coyotes that bring in illegals in Arizona. Al Qaeda has set up an enclave in Mexico and established terrorist training camps there.

Historically, Muslims build mosques on the sites of their greatest conquests and they plan to do so again. Our Politically Correct government is willing to give the organization that wishes to build a mosque close to the site of Ground Zero, a sacred place of history for Americans, the money that they need to build the Muslim abomination.

We are still under attack.

The result of their attack is pictured below:

On the 10th anniversary of this vile and repulsive attack, let us take time to remember those who died there, the people in the buildings who jumped from the floors above the collapsed stairwells, the first responders who lost their lives trying to save the lives of others. Remember the families who lost loved ones that day and may not have any portion of their remains. Let us take time to pray for them.

And let us take the time to dedicate ourselves to
NEVER AGAIN!

What it Means to Me to Be an American

I found an old paper my father wrote a long time ago – May 1955 to be exact.

I knew my father had strong feelings about our country later on in life, but I didn’t really know much about it early on.

I am going to share it with all of you – remember this was originally written in 1955 but it still has a tremendous meaning even today.

Being an American means Democracy. Democracy is a government of the people, by the people, for the people, as Lincoln defined it in his famous Gettysburg Address. But it is more than that. It is a way of thinking, and a way of living. It is the foundation on which our civilization is built, and on which it must continue to rest. It is an American ideal, resulting from inheritance and environment.

Our forefathers made great sacrifices to lay the foundations for our government, which each generation has helped to build.  This government is based upon the ideals of freedom, equality, opportunity, and cooperation.  These ideals represent the American way of life – the democratic way.

Democracy recognizes the importance of the people through representative government.  It safeguards and protects them by its laws.  It provides them the opportunity to attain whatever success they desire. It offers the condition for a higher standard of living than any other country. More than anything else it stands for freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.

These principles of democracy have made our people happier, more progressive, more creative, and more energetic than any other people.  A democracy gives us all these advantages and privileges but it also places upon us certain responsibilities.  If we are worthy to accept the democratic way of life we must be willing to assume our duty, and help keep it democratic.  We young Americans hold the fate of the coming years in our hands. We must work out the future of our country.  First of all, we must learn to fully appreciate the many privileges which are ours.

What does democracy mean to me?

Next to the gift of life, it is the greatest of all gifts.

Some points in this piece I don’t agree with completely, maybe it is the strong Conservative and Christian  beliefs I have. But whatever it may be I am still glad for now that we have our freedoms to say and do as we wish. I hope you enjoyed this small piece as much as I did.

It is funny how 56 years has gone passed and the meaning is still the same.

The New Enemy, Part II: Marxism

My last article introduced you to collectivism and its fallacies. In this article, I hope to explain Marxism and how it has intruded into the United States.

Background

Karl Marx was born in 1818 and he died in 1883. He was trained as a philosopher, and he studied political and economic theory on his own. He became very interested in “class struggle” while he was in college. When he graduated in 1841, he was hired by the “Rheinische Zeitung,” a German newspaper, to be their editor. It is here that he began his public life. When he wrote an editorial column with his opinions concerning the life of peasants, he was labeled a communist by his opponents. He was terminated from the position due to the claim. This situation caused him to go to Paris where accusations continued, mainly from the French and Prussian governments.

Beginning in 1843, he began to develop his political philosophy. The process took 40 years. His intentions were to liberate wage earners and workers from the capitalist system of 19th century Europe. His main point was the elimination of private property, which was the means of production, and it would be put into the purview of the “people” aka, the government that would be set up based on his economic and political principles.

In a close relationship with Fredrich Engels, he further developed his economic and political philosophies. These included a call to a revolution of the workers which he deduced had been the sole producers of wealth due to exploitation.

Both Marx and Engels were forced to leave Paris due to their writings. They traveled to Brussels, Belgium where they co-wrote The German Ideology. Marx’s next publication, The Poverty of Philosophy, was an analysis of French Socialist thinking. These two publications formed the basis of Marx and Engels’ The Communist Manifesto, which is the most famous of their collaborations.

The Manifesto was first published on February 21st, 1848 in London and was written in accordance to the wishes of the Communist League, a collection of German émigrés that Marx had won over to his philosophy.

An Overview of Marx and Engels’ Philosophy

A spider conducts operations that resemble those of a weaver, and a bee puts to shame many an architect in the construction of her cells. But what distinguishes the worst architect from the best of bees is this, that the architect raises his structure in imagination before he erects it in reality (Capital, vol. 1, chap. 7, pt. 1).

Philosophy is an examination of basic concepts such as truth, existence, reality, causality and freedom. Early in his career, Marx developed a political-economic philosophy based in part on the works of Ludwig Feuerbach who had been a student of Hegel. He later abandoned Feuerbach’s line of thought and began to develop his theory of historical materialism.

“Marx and Engels’ vision was a purely materialist interpretation of human nature and development within nature that called for revolution. It represented a materialist view of history, based on the dialectic that supported Marx’s theory of political economy and his call for revolution. The interpretation distinguished itself because of its theory of surplus value, which asserted that the wealth of capitalist societies originates solely from the exploitation of laborers. Marx’s analysis of history saw human development as occurring due to a series of class struggles between the ruling class,[and] those who possess the means of production. To Marx, feudal lords, land owners and capitalists were pitted against the ruled working class. This claim is summed up in the opening line of The Communist Manifesto: ‘The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggle.’ Marx predicted the demise of capitalism through a workers’ revolution that would lead to a utopian ‘classless society’ where, according to Marx, ‘people work according to their ability and get according to their needs’ and ‘in which the free development of each is the condition for the free development of all.’” (From: The New World Encyclopedia)

The Communist Manifesto was a collaboration of Marx and Engels which called for the communists of Europe to unite and publish their ideas, their political and economic aims, because the different organizations were a force of their own. They divided the population into the bourgeoisie; the people who owned the land and factories and other businesses, and the proletariat; those who worked on, or in those facilities.

As a result of the Industrial Revolution, people left small craftsmen’s shops and flocked to the big factories in the cities for employment. Working conditions were horrendous and wages were low. Fires were common and people lost their lives in factory accidents due to improper training and employees not paying attention to what they were doing as well as unsafe factory environments. Unions used these conditions to form in order to start the workers revolution that Marx and Engels envisioned. Unionization, in fact, led to many changes in the atmosphere of the factories as well as being a link between the worker and upper management or the owner in order to negotiate wages.

Marx’ historical analysis of the relationship of the classes produces an ever changing landscape; bourgeois and proletariat changing places in the social order throughout the history of mankind. Lenin adopted the Marxist idea however, he made elemental changes to Marx and Engels’ theories and conducted a successful communist revolution.

The Manifesto contains the seed of Marxism which once planted, grows into a form of altruism that cannot be accomplished without violence, re-education camps and government control of subject’s thoughts, speech, living conditions and reasons for imposing equal misery throughout the population. The only exceptions to the rules of Marxism/Altruism are the ruling class.

Within the Manifesto are ten conditions designed to destroy the capitalistic system of free markets and replace them with a communist-socialist system that sports an all powerful government. These are called The Ten Planks of Communism.

The Ten Planks of Communism

The Ten Planks of Communism are essential when setting up a Communist Government in countries that are targeted by organized people. The destruction of Capitalism is the main goal of communism in order to impose their vision of Utopia on the population. Each generation of statists claims that despite the historic failures of socialism and communism, they know how to set the system up better than the previous people who tried it did.

The Ten Planks are usually introduced incrementally into the legal system of the targeted country by twisting the meaning of words within the governing document.

One of the first things that collectivists do is change the language of the country they are attempting to take over. By changing the language, leftists can highjack words whose definitions are the exact opposite of their meaning, for example; liberal used to mean someone who is for the free market system, aka capitalism, as well as a limited government, now it is someone who wishes to impose the theft of producer’s money, governmentally and it’s redistribution to those that are “less fortunate;” this requires a big government bureaucracy  Another word that has been abducted is gay for homosexuals. Studies show that the majority of homosexuals are anything but gay.

Other conditions apply to the gradual take over of a society. Political Correctness and Multi-Culturalism are but two more of the necessary twisted views necessary to overcome freedom loving people.

Marx designed The Ten Planks of Communism as an assessment of a society as to whether or not it was practicing the communist ideology.

  1. 1.      Abolition of private property and the application of rents from all land usage to public coffers. Zoning is the first step of a government to take over all private lands. The requirements of the EPA are designed to outline not only what land can be used for, but imposition of environmental impact regulations.
  2. 2.      A heavy graduated income tax. The 16th Amendment to the Constitution established in 1913 needs no explanation. Imposing the highest percentage to be paid by the rich is called “paying your fair share.”
  3. 3.      Elimination of all Inheritance Rights. This has been accomplished by Federal and State legislation, arbitrary inheritance taxes.
  4. 4.      Confiscation of property owned by emigrants and terrorists. There are many ways this element of the Ten Planks has infiltrated our legal processes, the most widely used being Asset Forfeit Law. The IRS, DEA, and ATF are the most frequent imposers of forfeit laws.
  5. 5.      Centralization of credit in the hands of the government, by means of a central bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly. The Federal Reserve is a privately owned bank which controls the credit and debt system of the USA. It issues paper fiat money and practices economically destructive fractional reserve banking. All banks belong to the FDIC which is another privately owned corporation.
  6. 6.      Centralization of communication and transportation. There are numerous Federal agencies to control these areas of our infrastructure. The FCC, FAA, DOT; these are but a few of the controlling interests that the Federal Government has set up.
  7. 7.      Extension of factories and instruments of production under the control of the central government. The cultivation of wastelands and the improvement of the soil generally used in accordance with a common plan. We have the Department of Agriculture and the Desert Entry Act control and subsidize our “wastelands” and privately owned farms. The following agencies also control land usage as well as overseeing the compliance of businesses to regulations: the Department of Commerce and Labor, Department of Interior, the Environmental Protection Agency, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Mines, National Park Service, and the IRS control of business through corporate regulations
  8. 8.      Equal liability of all to labor. The establishment of groups of laborers, especially for farmlands. This plank is adhered to by minimum wage laws and trading with foreign countries that use slave labor, such as China. We see it in practice via the Social Security Administration and the Department of Labor, the national debt and inflation caused by the communal bank has caused the need for a two “income” family. the 19th amendment of the U.S. Constitution, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, assorted Socialist Unions, affirmative action, the Federal Public Works Program, Child Labor laws and Executive order 11000.
  9. 9.      The combination of farmlands and industrial producers along with the gradual elimination of the division of city and country through population redistribution. The zoning laws we have contribute to the implementation of this plank. The Planning Reorganization Act of 1949 as well as several Executive Orders provide not only for forced relocation of the population, but also for forced sterilization programs.
  10. 10.  Free education for all children including a combination of education and industrial production. The elimination of all child labor in factories, as well as other businesses including a family owned business. When the founders established this country, schools were privately funded and publically accessible to all children. Now, we have government at all levels intruding into our established educational system. The NEA is responsible for teaching Marxism in the schools, from colleges on down to child care centers. Even our private schools are regulated. Children are taught that the State is more important than the individual. This process has been going on since the mid 1800s when many German and Prussian philosophers were evicted from those countries. They came to America and received posts in our top colleges and universities. Their emphasis on collectivism has filtered down through our educational system reaching all citizens     at this point in time.

As you can see, there are many ways that Marxism has been absorbed into America’s culture and society. I have left the Unions out of this discussion on purpose as I plan another article on how unions were not necessary and how they were the communists’ foot in the door to our capitalistic economy.

Even though we believe we are free, we have implemented every one of Marx and Engels’ guidelines in the formation of a communist government. Not only do we have to vote the established politicians out of office, we are obligated to insist that the most harmful agencies to our freedoms are dismantled. They may have to be taken apart incrementally but the end game should be the total elimination of all of them.

None are more hopelessly enslaved, as those who falsely believe they are free….

I Fought For You

Indeed, people sure have short memories.

This is a video that every American should see, no matter what their age.

To every man and woman who has fought for my freedoms, you have sacrificed so much so that I might be free. I salute you! Without you, your sacrifice, and the sacrifice of your family, I would not be blessed with the freedoms I have. May God bless you and keep you!

Oh Say Can You See

I remember several years ago while looking to buy a house the realtor kept bring up properties that had HOA’s (Home Owners Association). I told her don’t even worry about pulling the files on the properties. I knew then that it would just cause grief and trouble if someone tried to tell me what I could do on the property I paid for.

In a single day I read two separate news reports where an HOA is being tyrannical and downright un-American. In one case the HOA is demanding that Fred Quigley- a veteran who fought in Korea and Vietnam- take down his flag pole. Mr. Quigley  proudly flies the flag that he so honorably served, the flag of The United States of America, on this pole.

In the other case, the HOA has halted construction on the home that was to be built by Homes for Our Troops for Sgt. 1st Class Sean Gittens who was paralyzed by an IED.

The HOA in Macedonia, Ohio told Mr. Quigley (I am sorry I could not find out the rank he attained or I would address him as such) he could fly his flag from a stanchion from his home but Mr. Quigley would not hear of it. In a statement concerning the matter, he stated:

“To me, a flagpole is a thing of boldness and is substantial. Putting a flag on your house is like putting a wreath on your door. It doesn’t mean as much.”

The HOA even stated that “landscapers have to work around it” and it would require electricity to be ran to the pole for illumination. OH MY GOSH! A landscaper would have to do what he is paid to do and run a line to the pole for a light. I was actually surprised that the HOA knew that flag etiquette deems that the flag be illuminated in the event it is flown at night.

I am proud to say that Mr. Quigley’s community have rallied around him. Many of his supporters gathered together with him as The American Legion performed a Flag Raising Ceremony at Mr. Quigley’s flag pole.

Sgt. Gittens and his family have been up against a very determined HOA. The HOA in the Evans, Georgia neighborhood have stated that because the Gittenses’ house would be smaller than most of the houses in the area, it would bring down property values even though the house exceeds the minimum square footage. The HOA even had the audacity to request that they build a second story on the house. REALLY?! A disabled veteran who is bound to a wheelchair or bed at all times should be required to build a second story?! The Gittens Family decided to build their new home elsewhere to end the conflict. Homes For Our Troops will now be able to build a home for the good Sgt. And his family without having to battle the HOA the entire time.

John Gonsalves, president and founder of Homes for Our Troops, made a statement saying:

“This home is about freedom and independence adapted to the Gittenses’ needs, but it’s also about roots. Luckily we can enjoy the [American] dream because of people like Sgt. Gittens. So who deserves it more than him?”

I would personally like to take these HOA presidents behind the woodshed and give them a few lessons on how to honor our veterans and OUR flag. There should be no other held in higher regards than those who have put his/her life on the line to defend our great nation and/or do her bidding. It is because of these individuals that we have the freedoms we have today. All of our freedoms have been bought and paid for with the literal blood, sweat, tears of our great men and women who make up our great military. Many have even given their very lives so that you might be free today.

Does He Have What It Takes To Be President?
In his words, yes, he does!

“I care about where this country is headed, and want to do something about it. I don’t think government is or should be so far away that it is virtually unattainable for the average person. We have let others handle our government, but there is a time for Americans to stand up and that time is now.”

What He Says Makes A Good President
I would love to just quote the entire page that Mr. Davis has on his website on what makes a good president. Instead, I invite you to visit his website and read for yourself what he has to say.

However, there is one sentence on the page that jumped out at me that I have to include in this profile. In this day and age where racism and race issues is at the forefront of so many discussions, I believe this statement sums up the  issue of race in regards to the presidency. I am actually making it bold print as I feel this defines the essence of this great nation better than any statement I’ve ever seen or heard!
What color should he be? I know the answer to this one. It’s the great American color: red, white and blue.
Why Does He Want To Be President?
Mr. Davis seems to understand that most people will question why he would jump into a race like President of The United States of America. He says that the answer is the same as for a a young man who joins the military knowing he is putitng his life in danger and will possibly face death- because they are partiots who want to serve their country and to preserve our way of life and freedoms.
He says this is why he is here today, running for President of The United States of America. By the grace of God, he says, he will make a difference in preserving freedom.

Core Values
From John Davis’ official website:

Honor     Accountability     Integrity     Common Sense     Loyalty     Truth     Passion     Servanthood

Revive America
Mr. Davis says he is a soldier- not in a soldier fighting in a war, but a citizen fighting for the future of America. He says he feels that this nation is at odds with itself and we must revive America. He says he has much gratitude for the freedoms we have in this nation that people in other countries do not have.

Mr. Davis recognizes as most of us do that our current leadership is doing everything they can to diminish America’s greatness and freedom. He believes that we must hold our government and leaders to higher standards.

On The Issues
Mr. Davis presents his view of the issues in a “Contract To America”, stating

1. Balanced Budget
2. Term Limits
3. Upholding The Constitution of The United States
4. Common Sense Leadership
5. Less government
6. Our borders are not being protected! Border control/Work Visas/Citizenship for law abiding aliens

Mr. Davis recognizes that government spending is out of control and that there is no fiscal accountability. He wants to bring honor and integrity back to leadership where it is slipping away fast, and in many cases is already gone.

As a businessman himself, he sees that one of the mainstays of this country- our freedom of owning and running an honest, successsful business- is disappearing due to huge regulations and fees on businesses. With government salaries being twice what they are in the private sector he sees first hands the effects of this.

As a Christian he recognizes that our values and freedoms are being persecuted rather than preserved.

On The Constitution
John Davis sees how our current President has total disregard for The Constitution of The United States of America- our governing document- and pushes through bills tith no regard for many elected officials and going completely against the will of the majority of We The People.

He sees how the judges around this nation are legislating from the bench, using their personal thoughts, feelings and opinions rather than our Constitution to make their decisions.

The Danger
Quoting from Mr. Davis’ website about what he sees the danger of this country being:

The danger is in the people giving up on their country and leaving their future to others, and giving up surrendering their common sense and good judgment because they think their voices can’t be heard. Feeling marginalized and unable to participate in the democratic process is detrimental to America’s success. Our country has survived many faulty leaders, but we cannot continue to go to the voting booth and check the box for the lesser of the two evils.

Quotes About John Davis From People Who Know Him

“John has very strong morals.”

“A man I can put my trust in.”

“John is strongly conservative, moral, religious, honest, a strong man and is clean in his life-style.”

“He is a very hard worker, not just working hard, but working smart with a can-do attitude.”

“He is stubborn and bull-headed enough to do what is right and yet, he is also a very caring person.”

On The Campaign Trail
Mr. Davis plans to visit EVERY SINGLE county in the United States-a total of 3,200 counties- on the campaign trail
Be sure to check his official website to see when he will be in your county!

Osama bin Laden dies an Ignoble Death but Lady Liberty lives on

Once upon a midnight dreary, Osama pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While he plotted, clearly scheming, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some SEAL gently rapping, rapping at his chamber door.
“‘Tis some visitor,” he muttered, “tapping at my chamber door –
Only this, and nothing more.”

And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled him – filled him with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of his heart, he stood repeating,
“‘Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door –
Some Paki Minister entreating entrance at my chamber door; –
This it is, and nothing more.”

Presently his soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
“Infidel,” said he, “or kafir, truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is I was plotting, and so gently you came rapping,
And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door,
That I scarce was sure I heard you”- here he opened wide the door; –
Darkness there, and nothing more.

Deep into that darkness peering, long he stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, “helicopter?”
This he whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, “helicopter!” –
Merely this, and nothing more.

Back into the chamber turning, his black soul within him burning,
Soon again he heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.
“Surely,” said he, “surely that is something at my window lattice:
Let me see, then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore –
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore; –
‘Tis the wind and nothing more.”

Open here he flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately SEAL of the saintly days of yore;
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady, bursted through his chamber door –
Looking down his rifle’s gun sights just beyond the chamber door –
Locked, and loaded, nothing more.

“Prophet!” said Osama, “thing of evil! – prophet still, if SEAL or devil! –
Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted –
On this home by horror haunted- tell me truly, I implore –
Is there – is there balm in Abottabad? – tell me – tell me, I implore!”
Quoth the triggerman “Nevermore.”

Osama bin Laden is no more. In one important sense our national nightmare is over. Finally there is some closure for the families of the thousands that died that terrible day in September of 2001. Like most Americans I take what happened on 9/11 personally. My son, Joshua, had just enlisted in the United States Army. He was part of the first class that graduated from Army boot camp at Fort Jackson after the national tragedy that started America down the road of the War on Terrorism.

I travelled from Florida to Fort Jackson for Joshua’s graduation ceremony. It was a chilly day and I was bundled up against the cold that morning. But my heart warmed as a thousand new Army recruits passed in review and the base commander addressed us all. He told us of the admiration he had for all of the recruits who were graduating that day. An all-volunteer force now, the Army gains its new blood from those who feel the burning pride of patriotism. And America’s best, its youth and its future, were placing all that they had on the line so that we all could live in freedom. There was an upsurge in military enlistments post 9/11. The country came together in defense of freedom. It was an era for the ages. That feeling of national unity had never before been experienced by many Americans. And for those who had experienced that feeling it had been a long time – perhaps as far back as the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.

Following the graduation ceremony Joshua was released to us with the provision that he was to remain on base until he boarded the bus which would take him to Fort Eustis for advanced training. So for the next two days we toured the base. We went to the enlisted men’s club. We visited the base museum. We saw it all. And then Joshua boarded the bus and headed to Fort Eustis in Virginia where he was to be trained as a helicopter power plant mechanic.

The next time we saw Joshua was at a Holiday Inn near the airport in Jacksonville, FL. The Army had that entire hotel rented out. Joshua was now a member of the 101st Airborne Division and the Screaming Eagles were being deployed to Kuwait (though we didn’t know exactly where at the time due to security concerns). Joshua’s unit had spent the past week wrapping all of their helicopters in plastic wrap to protect them from the salty ocean spray. All of the helicopters were being loaded onto cargo ships for the slow transit to the Arabian Gulf. We hugged Joshua and said our goodbyes – not knowing when we would see him again.

A few months later Joshua crossed into Iraq as far of the invasion force. His unit made its way up to Mosul in the northern part of Iraq and there Joshua stayed for the next year. We learned bits and pieces of Joshua’s war experiences – like the time he went out to retrieve a downed helicopter and his unit came under enemy attack. Joshua saw one of his friends blown to bits that day – nothing left but blood. That is what it is like defending America. Every day isn’t a victory. Friends die. Comrades in arms are sent home in either body bags or via flying hospitals. Ezra Taft Benson, who served as Secretary of Agriculture in the Eisenhower Administration, once said that when freedom is lost it is only regained through the shedding of blood. Truer words were never spoken.

Joshua eventually returned stateside but was later sent back to Iraq for another tour of duty. This time he was assigned to Bagram Air Force Base north of Baghdad. It was more of the same. Blood. Sweat. Tears. And a steady diet of combat patrols. Joshua was assigned to carry his squad’s M249 light machine gun. It was previously known in the Army by the name of Squad Automatic Weapon, or SAW. A fully loaded M249 weighs in at 22 pounds. Imagine lugging the weapon on patrol day after day. No wonder Joshua returned home with arms the size of small logs.

Joshua is out of the Army now. He didn’t re-enlist. But with two tours of duty in Iraq he has more than carried his share of the load in defending freedom. I salute him and every other man and woman who wears the uniform of a United States soldier, sailor, airman, or marine. Joshua’s unit spent countless hours and days hunting for Saddam Hussein. He knows the frustration of coming up empty on patrol after patrol. Seeing Seal Team 6 successfully corner Osama Bin Laden means something to him, and to me.

America didn’t ask for the War on Terrorism. In fact, America absorbed blow after blow without a significant level of response. America slept through the bombing of our Marines in Beirut. America slept through the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole. America slept through the atrocities in Somalia. And then America woke up. 9/11 penetrated our hearts and our minds. Never again would America take it on the chin without seeking out those responsible for such wanton murder. President George W. Bush promised to seek out those who were responsible for attacking the Pentagon and the World Trade Center and bring them to justice. Bush put into place the intelligence infrastructure that Barack Obama benefitted from years later. Regardless, killing bin Laden finally cut off the head of the snake that attacked us in 2001. The war rolls on but at least justice has been served to the evil mastermind that murdered thousands of innocent American lives.

Joshua, your honorable service in defense of our country is magnificent. I salute you, my son! I salute all the heroes who have sacrificed their blood for freedom. I salute all of our American heroes who give their all in defense of our freedom and our liberty. It is a dangerous world and there will always be new bin Ladens seeking to enslave us. But there will also always be Joshuas and countless others who will rise to the occasion when liberty is threatened and who will save us in our hour of need.

Lady Liberty continues to lift her lamp in New York harbor, giving hope to the oppressed and symbolizing freedom and liberty to all men everywhere. It is with thanks to the American military that we acknowledge the death of Osama bin Laden. Those who live by the sword die by the sword. Though bin Laden’s crimes are great and his evil designs monumental in their scope – the American dream refuses to die. Lady Liberty shines like a golden city on a hill. Her light will not be dimmed and America will always be free.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

In Praise of Free Enterprise

My life was turned upside-down on the morning of February 12, 2011. The previous evening my wife and I went through a city that is blessed with the presence of a Der Weinerschnitzel. I have worshipped many times at the altar of this wonderful hotdog emporium featuring my all-time favorite chili cheese dogs and Polish sandwiches. I partook of both of these gastronomical delights along with a root beer and fries. The combo is one of the food industry’s greatest inventions. Life was good.

The next morning, February 12th, a day which will live in infamy in my home, I got a telephone call from the nurse at Dr. Sneezenblow’s office. She told me that Dr. Sneezenblow needed to meet with me immediately to discuss the results of my recent blood tests. Ten minutes later I was in his office with visions of Prostate Cancer swimming through my head. I knew a whole battery of blood tests had been ordered as a part of my annual physical but the only one I could remember was the Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test – the test that would indicate the presence of Prostate Cancer. I was terrified.

I wasn’t left in suspense for long. The good news was that I didn’t have Prostate Cancer. The bad news was that I had Type 2 Diabetes. My first thought, after recovering from the shock of Dr. Sneezenblow’s announcement, was that chili cheese dogs and Polish sandwiches were things of the past. I was in mourning. The nurse interrupted my sorrow by pricking my finger with a lancet and then testing the blood sugar level in my heretofore hotdog infused carcass. Just to give you some perspective – 70 to 130 is considered to be normal. Anything over 200 is considered to place a person in the diabetic range. I registered in at a cool 494. The blood testing meter maxed out at 500. I almost blew the lid off that little electronic wonder! At that point I knew root beer and fries were also gone from my gastronomical routine. Life was definitely not good!

Now you might think that this article is all about some guy (that would be me) moaning about being victimized by his defective pancreas gland. Nope! I refuse to play the role of the victim. Catch the Eagles’ song about victimhood right here. It is a wonderful expose of the entire liberal woe-is-me victimhood mindset. Instead, this article is a celebration of the wonders of American capitalism, the free-market, and Yankee innovation that is the wonder of the world.

The good doctor laid down the law concerning my diet from that point forward. I immediately resigned myself to an endless round of green beans and water chestnuts. Then I got on the Internet and, armed with my new dietary restrictions, began researching how to cope with eating in the world of Type 2 Diabetes. It didn’t take long to discover that private enterprise, long derided by Obama and his ilk, has developed some amazing foods, devices, and technologies to allow their customers to successfully deal with both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. The rest of this article is about some of these companies and the innovative ways they have addressed market needs within the free enterprise.

Dreamfields Foods is a manufacturer of pasta. Normally, diabetics would be expected to eliminate all forms of pasta from their diets. Traditional pastas score a 38 on the Glycemic Index. Traditional pastas also contain 41 grams of carbohydrates per serving. Any diabetic can tell you that watching and regulating carbohydrates is just as important, if not more so, than watching calories, sugar, or fats. But Dreamfields Foods, through a shining example of Yankee ingenuity, has created pasta that boasts an incredible score of only 13 on the Glycemic Index. And yes, their pasta still contains 41 grams of carbohydrates per serving, but only 5 grams of those carbohydrates get digested! The rest passes harmlessly through the body. Carbohydrates are just a form of sugar and when they are digested the blood glucose level spikes upward. Sugar spikes are what diabetics attempt to avoid. A good rule of thumb is that diabetics try to keep those sugar spikes below 180. With pasta that measures in at a very low 13 on the Glycemic Index and only 5 grams per serving of digestible carbohydrates, Dreamfields Foods has made it possible for diabetics to once again enjoy pasta. And that is a huge deal if you have diabetes. Dreamfields Foods saw a market need and filled that need through an innovative approach – exactly what the free enterprise system is designed to do. Imagine the possibility of a massive governmental bureaucracy inventing something as innovative as what Dreamfields Foods did. Right, it would never happen. In the world of the socialists some anonymous bureaucrats would devise a series of five year plans for the economy. And minus the economic stimulus of taking risks and potentially reaping rewards, there would be no incentive for industry to look for solutions in the pasta market.

Pasta without sauce is a non-starter and Walden Farms has solved that problem with another shining example of meeting a market need through innovation. What do the following foods all have in common?

  • Alfredo Sauce
  • Tomato & Basil Sauce
  • Garlic & Herb Sauce
  • Strawberry Spread
  • Raspberry Spread
  • Blueberry Spread
  • Apricot Fruit Spread
  • Apple Butter
  • Grape Spread
  • Orange Spread
  • Blue Cheese Dip
  • Ranch Dip
  • French Onion Dip
  • Bacon Dip

  • Seafood Sauce
  • Ketchup
  • Chocolate Dip
  • Caramel Dip
  • Marshmallow Dip
  • Whipped Peanut Spread

Quite the list isn’t it? Okay, here’s the answer to the question. You can purchase any of those items from Walden Farms and each of those foods has zero sugar, zero gluten, zero carbs, zero fat, and zero calories. That’s right – totally guilt free! Imagine what Walden Farms has done for the diabetics of America! All of those foods had been taboo for diabetics until Walden Farms came along. Once again private enterprise recognized a market need and delivered magnificently within the free market system. You can rest assured that the Department of Agriculture, within a Big Government/Centrally Planned economy never would have developed this solution. Once again, free enterprise comes to the rescue. Thank you, Walden Farms!

Now what good is Whipped Peanut Spread if you don’t have bread to spread it on? Regular white bread is taboo for diabetics. Eating white flour is like injecting sugar straight into your veins. White flour bread has a Glycemic Index Value of 71. Anything above 70 is considered to be a High GI food. A score of 100 is the high end of the scale. Even whole wheat and multi-grain breads have to be treated with caution by diabetics. It is not just the flour. Manufacturers put sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, maltodextrin, honey, and assorted other bad ingredients for diabetics in their breads. So what kind of bread can a diabetic eat? Julian Bakery recognized this market need and came to the rescue. Julian Bakery offers a wide variety of breads for customers requiring special diets: gluten-free, high fiber, high protein, low calorie, low carbohydrate, wheat-free, and sprouted breads. Their products are carried nationwide by various retailers or you can buy their products online. Yet again the free market solved a problem! Julian Bakery saw a market need and came up with innovative products to fill that need.

When was the last time you saw Obama fix a problem? – Didn’t think so. Obama’s approach is to create a problem and then offer socialism as the fix to the problem that he created! To Obama and other socialists/communists the ONLY solution is government. Cradle to grave is their mantra.  What the vast unwashed masses of liberals with their hands out begging for their share of Obama’s Stash haven’t figured out is that by depending upon the government for their physical security that they have relinquished their freedom and liberty.

Obama and his socialist administration do not possess an understanding of the proper role of government. They seek to control people instead of liberating them. As John Locke said many years ago:

The end of law is not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom. For in all the states of created beings, capable of laws, where there is no law there is no freedom. For liberty is to be free from restraint and violence from others, which cannot be where there is no law; and is not, as we are told, ‘a liberty for every man to do what he lists.’ For who could be free, when every other man’s humour might domineer over him? But a liberty to dispose and order freely as he lists his person, actions, possessions, and his whole property within the allowance of those laws under which he is, and therein not to be subject to the arbitrary will of another, but freely follow his own. (Two Treatises of Civil Government, II, 57: P.P.N.S., p.101)

In 1959 President Dwight D. Eisenhower asked his Secretary of Agriculture, Ezra Taft Benson, to have a conversation with Nikita Khrushchev on the subject of agriculture. The conversation, later recounted by Benson, took a sharp turn away from agriculture and veered right into the essence of liberty versus totalitarianism:

“Your children will live under communism.” Khrushchev said.

“On the contrary,” Secretary Benson replied, “My grandchildren will live in freedom as I hope that all people will.”

Khrushchev then retorted: “You Americans are so gullible. No, you won’t accept Communism outright; but we’ll keep feeding you small doses of Socialism until you will finally wake up and find that you already have Communism. We won’t have to fight you; we’ll so weaken your economy, until you fall like overripe fruit into our hands.”

That is what Obama is doing. He is feeding us doses of socialism, knowing that one day we will wake up and find that we live in a communistic society. Note that Khrushchev pointed out how socialism will weaken our economy. That is the great danger to free enterprises like Dreamfields Foods, Julian Bakery, and Walden Farms. Socialism’s goal is to rid society of free enterprise. Socialism is merely a stepping stone to communism. And communism means no private enterprise. Communism’s goal is to exert total control over every aspect of our lives. Benson had an exact opposite view to Khrushchev’s concerning free enterprise:

Under our system there has been released great creative capacity, because we have been free, unrestricted. What have we achieved? A standard of living unequalled anywhere in the world. Not because we are smarter, not because we are more brilliant, not because we have greater capacity than people of other nations, but because we have had a system which is superior—a system which was wisely provided by the Founding Fathers. We must protect and safeguard that system. Sometimes we find people who almost apologize for it—the free enterprise system. Of course it is not perfect; it is operated by human beings, but it is the best system in operation in this world today. If we are wise, we will preserve it, we will strengthen it and we will safeguard it for our children and our children’s children.

Benson is not alone in his view of the vital nature of the free enterprise system. Here are some thoughts on this subject by other notable people:

Free enterprise has done more to reduce poverty than all the government programs dreamed up by Democrats – Ronald Wilson Reagan

And from another former president:

The government can supply no substitute for enterprise. – Calvin Coolidge

Yet another quote from Coolidge:

The wise and correct course to follow in taxation and all other economic legislation is not to destroy those who have already secured success but to create conditions under which every one will have a better chance to be successful.

Abraham Lincoln also spoke about free enterprise:

The strongest bond of human sympathy outside the family relation should be one uniting all working people of all nations and tongues and kindreds. Nor should this lead us to a war on property, or the owners of property. Property is the fruit of labor; property is desirable; is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich shows that others may become rich, and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise. – Abraham Lincoln

Walter E. Williams pointed out the despotic thinking process of tyrants:

People who denounce the free market and voluntary exchange, and are for control and coercion, believe they have more intelligence and superior wisdom to the masses. What’s more, they believe they’ve been ordained to forcibly impose that wisdom on the rest of us. Of course, they have what they consider good reasons for doing so, but every tyrant that has ever existed has had what he believed were good reasons for restricting the liberty of others. – Walter E. Williams

The prominent economist Milton Friedman also chimed in on the subject of free enterprise:

The argument for collectivism, for government doing something, is simple. Anybody can understand it. ‘If there’s something wrong, pass a law. If somebody is in trouble, get Mr. X to help them out.’ The argument for voluntary cooperation, for a free market, is not nearly so simple. It says, ‘You know, if you allow people to cooperate voluntarily and don’t interfere with them, indirectly, through the operation of the market, they will improve matters more than you can improve it directly by appointing somebody.’ That’s a subtle argument, and it’s hard for people to understand. Moreover, people think that when you argue that way you’re arguing for selfishness, for greed. That’s utter nonsense.

Lew Rockwell made this inspired statement:

The larger the government, the more our livings standards are reduced. We are fortunate as a civilization that the progress of free enterprise generally outpaces the regress of government growth, for, if that were not the case, we would be poorer each year — not just in relative terms, but absolutely poorer too. The market is smart and the government is dumb, and to these attributes do we owe the whole of our economic well-being.

Ayn Rand tells us what happens when the socialists/communists win:

When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion – when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing – when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors – when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you – when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice – you may know that your society is doomed.

P.J. O’Rourke said it even more succinctly than Rand:

When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators.

On the subject of government bailouts Henry Hazlitt said this:

It is just as essential for the health of a dynamic economy that dying industries should be allowed to die as that growing industries should be allowed to grow. For the dying industries absorb labor and capital that should be released for the growing industries. It is only the much vilified price system that solves the enormously complicated problem of deciding precisely how much of tens of thousands of different commodities and services should be produced in relation to each other. These otherwise bewildering equations are solved quasi-automatically by the system of prices, profits and costs. They are solved by this system incomparably better than any group of bureaucrats could solve them. For they are solved by a system under which each consumer makes his own demand and casts a fresh vote, or a dozen fresh votes, every day; whereas bureaucrats would try to solve it by having made for the consumers, not what the consumers themselves wanted, but what the bureaucrats decided was good for them.

And finally, Walter Lippman ends our lesson thusly:

In a free society the state does not administer the affairs of men. It administers justice among men who conduct their own affairs.

The free enterprise system is closely tied to the principle of individual liberty. That is why we must do everything in our power to preserve it. That is why Obama must lose the 2012 election. That is why conservatives must take the Senate from the Democrats. That is why there must be a massive conservative uprising the likes of which has never before been seen. We are in a literal war for our freedoms and the freedom of our children and grandchildren.

I have a dream that one day the perverse philosophy of communism will be rooted out of our national consciousness.

I have a dream that one day government will shrink to the minimum size necessary to fulfill its constitutional mandates.

I have a dream that our children and their children will be freed from the mountain of debt thrust upon their shoulders by Obama and his like-minded minions.

I have a dream that the patriots of this nation will rise up and save free enterprise from the very brink of destruction and that the principle of working for what we get will reign supreme in our economy.

I have a dream that government handouts will cease for the lazy and that people, through their own good works, will voluntarily provide for the needs of the truly destitute among us – lifting both themselves and the needy with their generosity.

I have a dream that the philosophy of equal outcomes will be replaced with the philosophy of equal opportunity. May people choose for themselves what they will make of their lives and reap the rewards of their own hard labor.

I have a dream that we will elect a righteous president who will preside over us in full devotion to the Constitution of the United States.

I have a dream that the communists will be eradicated from the United States Congress through the power of an enlightened electorate exercising their rights at the ballot box without fear of intimidation.

I have a dream that the United States of America will fulfill its destiny as the world’s beacon of liberty and through its shining example lift all nations, all peoples, and all societies.

I close with the words of a hymn familiar to all citizens of these United States. It is a poetic prayer of supplication for the preservation of our precious liberties.

Our fathers’ God, to thee,
Author of liberty,
To thee we sing;
Long may our land be bright
With freedom’s holy light.
Protect us by thy might,
Great God, our King!
