101 Million: Food Aid Recipients Now Outnumber Private Sector Workers

What’s the Democrats’ secret to success? Astoundingly novel ideas, “hope and change,” transparency, ethical behavior, job creation, or effective foreign policy?

Ahhhhh… wrong on all counts! It’s because they give away money that doesn’t belong to them using government coercion.

Gander at this wreckage of an economy, which comes via CNS News:

The number of Americans receiving subsidized food assistance from the federal government has risen to 101 million, representing roughly a third of the U.S. population.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that a total of 101,000,000 people currently participate in at least one of the 15 food programs offered by the agency, at a cost of $114 billion in fiscal year 2012.

That means the number of Americans receiving food assistance has surpassed the number of private sector workers in the U.S..

Of course, the more people on welfare, the better the government, right? But as Ronald Reagan said best: “We should measure welfare’s success by how many people leave welfare, not by how many are added.”

Until we get rid of the notion that people are entitled to no-strings-attached welfare, this nation will continue to be trapped in economic stagnation. Let’s take a look at some recent figures:

  • “Since January 2009, when Barack Obama was inaugurated as president, the United States has seen 54 straight months with the unemployment rate at 7.5 percent or higher, which is the longest stretch of unemployment at or above that rate since 1948″… [CNS News, July 5th. 2013]
  • “Of the 11.8 million jobless Americans in June, 4.3 million had been out of work six months or longer. There were 1 million fewer long-term jobless than last year, but their ranks remain way above the previous high-water mark of 2.8 million in 1983.” [Huffington Post, July 5th, 2013]
  • “[T]he number of people not in the labor force which in March soared by a massive 663,000 to a record 90 million Americans who are no longer even looking for work… And even worse, the labor force participation rate plunged from an already abysmal 63.5% to 63.3% – the lowest since 1979! [ZeroHedge, April 2013]
  • “The total number of people in the United States now receiving federal disability benefits hit a record 10,962,532 million in April, which exceeds the 10,815,197 people who live in the nation of Greece.” [CNS News, May 2013]
  • “As the president began the first year of his second term, the U.S. poverty rate rose to a level not seen since the 1960s… The Census Bureau says that 50 million Americans, roughly one in six — almost 17% — are living below the poverty line… apparently 20% of the nation’s children are living in poverty.” [IBD, April 2013]

That’s “compassionate” policy for you nowadays: not creating jobs or growing a prosperous middle class, but “spreading the wealth around.” Since 51% of the nation isn’t paying federal income taxes, and 49.1% of households are receiving some form of welfare, it’s safe to say that one half of the nation is literally looting the other half through government.

Are you growing mutant seeds? Try Heirloom Seeds!

Think Wal-mart is the answer for all your garden needs? Do you know what you are buying? Do you realize the lack of sustainability in Wal-Mart mutant seeds? Have you considered the mutigenic qualities (or lack thereof) of the produce that is grown from mutant seeds?

GMO Mutant Produce

GMO Mutant Produce

What is a mutant seed you ask? One that is genetically modified from the original. How many of us yearn for that juicy ripe red tomato from the supermarket? No one?!?! Oh, because you generally don’t find that kind of produce, but in your own garden. Those that are found in your supermarket are those strains of genetically modified beasts, I call mutants, tasteless and little to no nutritional value. Genetically modified seeds (GMO) have been spliced with genes from bacteria or viruses, or genes that make plants resistant to chemicals like herbicides (like Roundup).

These genes were not apart of the human diet until the first GMO plant was made in 1996. The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) says about GMOs is they “have not been properly tested and pose a serious health risk”.

Why do they spend millions modifying our food from their already delicious and nutritious state? Money. What do they say about money? The root (pun intended) of all evil? They modify the seeds to be more disease resistant, modified to be repel the insects that normally prey on our precious fruits and vegetables.

Sounds wonderful, does it not? Sure, but there are great sacrifices to be made. Usually in taste or the nutrient level. Do we know the long lasting affects? Have we yet to understand the ramifications it has on our Eco system and our own bodies?

This is why we seldom salivate for veggies from the supermarket. All this goes to increasing the corporate farmers bottom line.

Corporate Farming

Corporate Farming

In 30 countries around the world there are restrictions and bans on the production of GMOs as they are not proven safe. So why are they so openly accepted in the US, who can say!?!?

If you can’t or won’t grow your own fruits and vegetables, then I implore you to buy them from your local farm market. Where you can buy quality, mouth watering, nutritious produce at equal or less price than from your supermarket.

If, I think you are as I suspect, growing your own food, then please, do yourself, your taste buds and your body a favor and start growing wholesome and nutritious, God designed fruits and vegetables.

Heirloom Tomatoes Varieties

Heirloom Tomatoes Varieties

Here are some things you need to know about seeds…

There are three main types of seeds on the market currently:

Genetically Modified (GMO) Seeds, designed to be disease and pest resistant, but lacks in flavor and nutrition. You will not be able to reproduce the same plant from the seed of the parent plant.

Hybrid Seeds, a cross between two plants. Produces a unique plant with favorable characteristics, but lacks reproduction of the same plant from seed, as with GMO.

Open Pollinated Seeds, true to form, au naturel seeds. They produce fruit that is delicious and nutritious and when you plant a seed from the parent plant you get an identical plant. This is the ideal seed for lifelong sustainability.

You can find Open Pollinated Seeds at Wal-mart, but you will usually find it under the title of “Heirloom” seeds.

Heirloom Vegetables

Heirloom Vegetables

The definition of an Heirloom Seed by author Cassandra Truax of A Worm Tea Primer and blog writer of www.organic-raised-bed-gardening.com is:

Seed varieties collected for generations by everyday people. Such varieties are usually hardy, pest resistant and have other desirable qualities, as well as being open pollinated. Heirloom seeds are important store houses of genetic diversity.

Heirloom seed varieties are typically 100 to 150 years old. To be considered heirloom, typically, a seed cultivar has to be at least 50 (some say 100) years old. And it must be open pollinated. Last but not least is quality. For a seed to be passed on, it obviously had a good quality or qualities.

What draws most gardeners to using heirlooms seeds, is the flavor of the fruit. One has yet to experience a good tomato (for instance) if one has not tasted the bountiful flavor of an heirloom tomato.

Purple Cherokee Heirloom Tomato

Purple Cherokee Heirloom Tomato

Don’t expect heirloom plants to look like their GMO or Hybrid counterparts. There are black heirloom tomatoes called Black Krim which is rich and earthy, and has almost a smoky flavor. There are many tastes and varieties that will not disappoint in the heirloom family of seeds.

Black Krim Heirloom Tomato

Black Krim Heirloom Tomato

As natural, unaltered state, heirloom seeds have all the good qualities we need without modifying the flavor and nutrients out of them AND reproduce the same plant over and over again, thus being open pollinated.

There are many places to purchase heirloom, open pollinated seeds. Yes, Wal-mart usually has a few, but I would urge you to buy from seed companies that specialize in these sustainable and prolific seeds.

Such places are:

Baker Creek Seeds – www.rareseeds.com
Orchard House Heirlooms – www.orchardhouseheirlooms.com
Victory Seeds – www.victoryseeds.com
Seeds of Change – www.seedsofchange.com

There are many more out there, but these are just a few, what I would call reliable companies that I have worked with.

If you are looking for Medicinal or Tea Herb seeds, I have found My Patriot Supply (www.mypatriotsupply.com) a good source for these types of seeds.

I have yet to find any studies on the health ramifications of eating GMO foods. Not only does GMO help the corporate farmers bottom line, but it also helps companies like Monsanto control our future food supply by controlling the seeds ability to reproduce, thus controlling where and when we can purchase our seeds.

Genetically Modified Corn

Genetically Modified Corn

Keep the genetic diversity of Heirloom seeds going by growing nothing but heirloom, open pollinated seeds. Not only will they keep your garden going from year to year, but provide healthy and tasty food to put on your table.

If you are growing your own food in your garden, you may as well grow the right kind of seed. A seed that reproduces, provides a superior and proven plant, year after year. You will without question, notice the difference in taste and nutrition over GMO produce.

Vegetable Garden

Vegetable Garden

Heirloom Seeds that have been passed from generation to generation are far more hardier and as some studies show, have more nutritional value than GMO.

With companies like Monsanto out to capitalize on sterile seeds and pushing them into our homes and gardens, it is important to think of our food security using open pollinated seeds.

Stop the mutant! Grow hardy open pollinated heirloom seeds, for sustainability of life.

Taste the difference!

Raising Chickens, your first step to self sufficiency

You ask, why do I recommend to start with chickens? The answer is simple. Chickens are the quickest in return, the easiest to maintain, and gives you a sense of fulfillment that will inspire you to continue down the journey of self sufficiency. No other farm creature is so quick to produce, so easy to raise, and very inexpensive to purchase.

Barred Rock flock

Barred Rock flock

We have been on our farm for over 5 years now (not our first farm mind you) and we have probably started the wrong way to many times and have, a time or two become discouraged in our dream of our farm. You need to know the best and the most rewarding place to start.

You may think to just order a batch of chicks and your brooder, and that is all you need to know… Nothing can be the furthest from the truth. There is a good deal to know before you start.

So allow me to take the guess work out of starting your own flock of chickens.

Timing, you need to know when to start. You can buy chicks and other varieties of poultry throughout the year. The best time to purchase your chicks will be in the spring. Chicks grow very, very fast. And if you start them too soon, you might not have a warm place for them when they outgrow the brooder.

brooder kit

brooder kit

There are many online hatcheries to purchase your chicks from. I strongly recommend buying from your local farm feed/tractor store if this is your first time. They will start carrying them at the right time of the spring and will carry the correct breeds for your climate. At the same time you can purchase all your chick supplies.

Breeds? Yes, there are many breeds of chicks to choose from. To cover the basics there are strictly egg layer breeds, meat breeds and what is called dual purpose breeds, which provides both eggs and meat. Egg breeds (like the Isa Brown) will be smaller, eat less feed and produce large eggs. The meat breeds are very large breeds like the Cornish Rock breed, but eat much more feed.

Dual purpose breeds like the Rhode Island Reds and Barred Rocks will be medium sized and will eat a medium amount of feed in comparison to the other types.

Rhode Island Reds

Rhode Island Reds

What is the right breed for you? That is determined on which chicken product you are after, meat, eggs, or both.

I prefer dual breeds, as you can get both. I have yet to use both, just eggs, but the potential is still there for meat.

Once you determine which type of bird you want, you have to take into consideration your climate. For our farm, located in Michigan, we chose a breed that was cold hardy and would still lay in the winter months. That breed for us was the Barred Rock.

The Barred Rock breed is a northern breed and does well in the cold and snow. Ours lay year round and produce well. The main key for us are not requiring us to use a heat lamp in the winter, unless it gets below zero. So we have a hardy breed that needs little pampering and produces year round. This was an ideal breed for us here in the north.

A good source of information on breeds (and reviews) is the Murray McMurray Hatchery out of Iowa. (http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/bar_baby_chicks.html)

Another good source of information is chicken forums like www.backyardchickens.com and www.chickenchatter.org

Barred Rock Chicks

Barred Rock Chicks

To fence or not to fence? That is a question one must answer. If you live in the country and have the room to free range your chickens, I would still recommend keeping them fenced in until a month after they start laying. This will allow them to know where their home is, their feed, and where they are to lay. Yes, you will still get the occasional offender and find an egg under a bush somewhere, for the most part they will use their nest box to lay.

Nest Boxes

Nest Boxes

In the winter months use you will want to supplement their lighting with a 60 watt bulb, on a timer. You want your chickens to have light 12-14 hours per day, otherwise their laying will reduce.

Typically, we have found that we can get almost an egg a day per chicken. However, breeds, climate and lighting will cause variations in the quantity produced.

When you finally choose the type and breed of chicken to raise, you will need a Brooder Starter Kit. The kits includes (or buy them separately), heating lamb and bulb, waterer, feeders, brooder guard (to keep them in) and ideally a brooder thermometer.

However, your chicks will tell you if they are to hot or cold.

Correct Brooder Temp

Correct Brooder Temp

When we received our first chicks, I was not only anxious but afraid I would not be able to raise them properly without sickness or fatalities.

Those fears were quickly laid to rest after our first batch of chicks. Keep them with water, feed and adjust your temperature and they do all the work. The only intervention was we had to dip their beaks gently into the waterer so they knew where to find their water.

We were amazed at how fast they grow, they will double and triple in size in just a couple weeks.

Our chickens are our yard pets and come when called, and are such a joy to watch.

When you purchase your chicks, you have three options, males, females or a straight run, which includes about 50/50 of each. Sexing a chick is no easy task, so even when ordering females, you might get one or two males and visa versa.

Another question, do you need a rooster to produce eggs? No, you do not. Rooster are required to fertilize the eggs to incubate and hatch chicks. Roosters do add character to your homestead, they are almost always more colorful and you get your morning chime.

Whether you realize it or not, chickens have personalities, and they know who feeds them. They will follow their caregiver all over the farm, let you pet them and hold them. They give a certain charm to your yard, and are like yard ornaments when looking out your favorite window.

You will find that chickens give back to your farm in many ways. They provide eggs, meat, when free ranged provide pest control against grasshoppers, fleas, ticks, ants and more…

Now to mention the health benefits of free range chicken eggs vs store bought eggs. Mother Earth News (www.motherearthnews.com) completed a study in 2007 and compared to U.S. Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.) study on caged chickens, that free range produced eggs are healthier.

The reports shows, that hens raised on pasture (free ranged) are:

1/3 less cholesterol
¼ less saturated fat
2/3 more vitamin A
2 times more omega-3 fatty acids
3 times more vitamin E
7 times more beta carotene

I think that logic would stand, to say caged chickens themselves are less healthy than well exercised, well fed free range chickens.

Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens

Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens

Chickens are the first choice when homesteading or raising on your hobby farm. They produce quickly, constantly and require little maintenance, and keeps the pests under control. Of the years we have been raising chickens, we have found no downside to raising chickens on our farm.

A word to the wise, don’t get a previously owned flock, start from scratch. People that want to get rid of their flocks are the ones usually not to care for them. So you do not know what you are getting yourself into. Trust me, this is how we started. Remember, I said that I have started out the wrong way a few times? This was one of them. We got an adult flock, we soon realized they were unhealthy, uncared for and were caged raised, so they did not produce well. We soon culled this flock and started over. This is always the preferred way of starting a flock, herd, passel, team and etc…

In the morning when you are sitting out on your patio, enjoying your favorite cup of java, listening to the roosters chime and see the chickens peck for food, you realize in yourself the serenity it brings, and say job well done.

For additional information on raising chickens check out the books by author Gale Damerow titled “Your Chickens” and “Storey’s Guide to Raising Chickens“.

Also, Mother Earth News released a “Pickin Chicken” app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch that helps you choose the right chicken breed to suit your needs. This app released through iTunes.

Florida Senate Race Pits a Patriot Against Moderate Progressives of the GOP

In the swing state of Florida there currently is a tropical storm brewing in the form of a group of candidates vying to replace far left Liberal Bill Nelson in the U.S. Senate race in Florida in 2012. In order to ensure we do not negate the conservatism of much heralded freshman Senator Marco Rubio, we must do the proper research to identify the most conservative candidate, while also looking out for big spending progressive Republicans posing as conservatives. This task will be a lot harder to do than first meets the eye, as we can see by the already bloated list of U.S. Senate candidates vying to replace big government Democratic Senator Bill Nelson in the 2012 elections below. Candidates in bold represent the top three in recent polls. Two of the frontruners are in fact, forms of progressive moderates, while one candidate stands out as simply a true conservative American Patriot.

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson (Bloomberg File Photo from the Sun

Florida conservatives are currently weathering a hurricane of divisiveness and dysfunctionality within their very own party about just who is the authentic, most valid conservative candidate for the 2012 U.S. Senate race so far. Good strong debate about these candidates is generally a good thing, but we all know what they say about having too much of a good thing. It can sow confusion and create chaos, and it appears to have done just that so far here in Florida. Even the Tea Party groups are somewhat divided in just who would best serve as the next U.S. Senator from Florida. We do have what appears to be a very solid group of conservatives ready to inject some true conservative principles into the U.S. Senate on behalf of Florida in 2013, but it is still a long way until the elecions. U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson (Bloomberg File Photo from the Sun

This long time-frame, however, also allows the deeper-pocketed candidates more time to try to “buy” support for themselves. If we look at past electoral  history however, the most wealthy candidates have generally turned out to be the worst at actually representing the people who elect them. I give you the current Mayor of New York city, Mr. Bloomberg, as a clear case of the uber-rich being elected to public office and then turning their backs on the people. The mayor is a media mogul billionaire and won the election by controlling the message and fooling the people. To back up that statement about these types of governmental elitists, we see Bloomberg blatantly ignoring the wishes of the people in this definitive example of tyranny:  Bloomberg Stands By Decision to Leave Clergy out of 911 Ceremony.

For those of you who would like to bring up the separation of church and state mantra, I ask you then why did the elected Mayor of NYC put the full weight of his office behind the building of a mosque a few blocks from where Islamic terrorists killed some 3000 innocent Americans? This is a great example of why people should NOT vote for the richest, most politically-connected person on the ballot, ever! That kind of tyranny, brought on by uninformed voting leads to people like Bloomberg dictating just who can and cannot be present at the 911 memorial next Sunday. Maybe the people across America should stop referring to Bloomberg as the mayor of NYC, and instead give him the title he truly deserves: The Tyrant of NYC. Shame of the people of NYC for letting this happen.

To get back to the original topic of the Florida U.S Senate election of 2012, we must keep in mind the historic track record of the dangers posed by wealthy elitist powerbrokers within our government. Most newly elected officials generally  start out as representing the poor or middle class, and then skyrocket into the elitist group of tyrants ignoring the will of the people in a very short time while enriching themselves at the expense of the very people who elected them. The term drunk with power comes to mind here. This scenario applies to the old guard GOP connected U.S. Senator and now 2012 candidate George LeMieux today. George never won the election, but was “appointed” by our former Progressive Republican turned Democrat, turned independent ex- Governor of Florida , one Charlie Crist. George is also Charlies former chief of staff, which tells us all we need to know about Mr. LeMieux. I just happen to remember Mr. LeMieux stating that he does not want a lifetime in politics, and would not be running in the 2012 election right after he was “appointed “ to his current Senate seat.  Mr. LeMieux has gotten a taste of elitism within the U.S. Senate and now he wants more in the form of being elected in 2012. George LeMieux will never receive my vote however, based on one simple reason: He never sent me a valid reason about his questionable votes that I asked him about in many, many phone calls and letters. Not one single viable answer. My main questions for Mr. LeMieux stem from his unwavering support for the big government expansion called the Food Safety Bill here.

At the time of the above-linked article, Adam Hasner appeared to be the most conservative candidate to replace Liberal Democrat, Senator Bill Nelson in the 2012 elections. Upon some deeper research into Adam Hasner’s resume, we see another zero-accomplishment- lawyer- turned- politician who hasn’t really done much of anything in the private sector. This is a good example of what is widely known as being a career politician, while noting that opposition to this form of elite, good ole boy manufactured politicians is also at the cornerstone of the grassroots Tea Party movement. We need an increase in people who have proven work records and successful private sector resumes running our government(s), not career bureaucrats who have never done anything except line up at the public taxpayer-funded trough.  Adam Hasner is simply a career bureaucrat. Also of note is the fact that in Mr. Hasner’s bio, among the “awards” he has received is an award that is indicative of his past Climate Change support, IE: the Florida Solar Energy Industries Association Legislative Appreciation Award of 2006. With the recent exposure of 3 taxpayer funded  U.S. Solar companies going bankrupt  and costing the taxpayers over a billion dollars, we see what happens when the government meddles in what should be private industry. While Hasner does bring extended legislative experience from working in the the Florida House of Representatives since he was first elected in 2002, his lack of private sector work and any proven successes in the business sector should make him it difficult for any grassroots conservative voters to vote for him in 2012. Hasner also seems to have the support of most of the GOP establishment behind him lately. That would be the very same wishy- washy GOP moderates who had a big hand in creating the big government mess we are in today.

The last of the “big three” highest polling Republican candidates to date for the U.S. Senate seat in Florida in 2012 is also the least known candidate, Colonel Mike McCalister. First, let’s get the manufactured controversy over Mr. McCalister’s military service record debunked. Meet the Colonel here.

After reading the facts in that detailed report on McCalister’s service record, let’s move on towards his actual record as a career bureaucrat shall we? That’s right folks, Col. Mike McCalister has no record as an elected official lining up at the public trough. Mike McCalister did made a pledge to all Floridians and  Americans when he announced his entering the 2012 U.S. Senate race and it can be seen in it’s entirety  here.

His pledge starts with a simple enough paragraph that should not be taken lightly:

“I pledge to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States; and to willingly fulfill the constitutionally enumerated responsibilities and powers of my elected office.”

Anyone who has ever been around long-serving military personnel understand just how serious they should be taken when making such a statement, or pledge. Mike McCalister is not the wealthiest candidate in the field, nor is he a career politician. Both of those supposed non-qualifications to run for the U.S Senate in 2012 should instead, point to him as being the type of grassroots conservative this country so desperately needs today.

The main reason for my support for Col. Mike McCalister for the U.S. Senate in 2012 can best be summed up by the final paragraph in his pledge to the people of Florida and all Americans in the above linked page:

“I pledge to be open and accessible to the people of Florida either directly or indirectly with myself and or staff members to ensure your voice is heard in the Senate.”

Considering the current state of elitist politicians completely ignoring the will of the very people who elected them today, that would be a quite refreshing and a very welcome change to the way they currently do business in the U.S. Congress. Col. McCalister has pledged that much-needed change to the people of Florida and America. Let’s send our current Senator Marco Rubio some real conservative support in 2012 in the form of Colonel Mike McCalister for U.S. Senate in 2012.

Paula Deen: The Most Dangerous Person In America?

It is no wonder we have become a country that has no idea what it means to “pull yourself up by your bootstraps.” As a child, this was a common thing heard in my home.

The “official” explanation of the phrase is:

Pull yourself up by your bootstraps

Improve your situation by your own efforts.

The origin of this descriptive phrase isn’t known. It refers of course to boots and their straps (laces) and to the imagined feat of a lifting oneself off the ground by pulling on one’s bootstraps. This impossible task is supposed to exemplify the achievement in getting out of a difficult situation by one’s own efforts.

It was known by the early 20th century. James Joyce alluded to it in Ulysses, 1922:

“There were others who had forced their way to the top from the lowest rung by the aid of their bootstraps.”

A more explicit use of the phrase comes a little later, from Kunitz & Haycraft’s British Authors of the 19th Century:

A poet who lifted himself by his own boot-straps from an obscure versifier to the ranks of real poetry.”

Some early computers used a process called bootstrapping which alludes to this phrase. This involved loading a small amount of code which was then used to progressively load more complex code until the machine was ready for use. This has led to use of the term ‘booting’ to mean starting up a computer.

Paula Deen

Paula Deen is a woman who knows exactly what “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” means. She has done it, and has become a huge success in the process. This seems to be a problem for some people.

Paula’s life has not always been the success that it is now. Though she started out living “the American Dream” in Georgia,  in 1989 her dream world shattered. Not long after the death of her parents, her marriage to her high school sweetheart failing, she ended up in a divorce. When she left her husband, she had $200 in her pocket and two teenage sons to provide for.

Paula is one of us True GRITS (for those of you above the Mason-Dixon line that’s “Girls Raised In The South), and it has a meaning that is just as tough as true grit! True GRITS are raised to understand that life is tough, but it is what you make it. You can choose to wallow around in your situation, or you can choose to “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” and get to gettin’!

While Paula Deen is now the perky bundle of grandmotherly giggles that she is now, during the years right after her divorce,  life, tragedy and hardships took their toll on her. Her outlook wasn’t quite as bright as it is now- in fact, it was quite a bit more dim. She battled agoraphobia, and eventually, she and her boys were nearly homeless.

Back to those bootstraps.

Paula took her last $200, reached deep inside and started “The Bag Lady,” a home-based meal delivery service that marked the start of Paula’s professional cooking. With sons Jamie and Bobby delivering “lunch-and-love-in-a-bag,” beginning in June 1989, Paula turned around her life by using what she knew best, traditional Southern cooking.

Paula is a true American success story. She

has overcome “poverty, doubt and agoraphobia to achieve success and acclaim she could never have imagined.”

Paula’s success has not changed who she is.  She is still the “genuine” person she always was, “full of love” and just as real as she was before she become the American icon she is today.

Sadly, there are some who do not admire her  True GRIT tenacity.

Anthony Bourdain

In a recent TV Guide interview, fellow chef Anthony Bourdain criticized Paula, saying Deen

“revels in unholy connections with evil corporations and she’s proud of the fact that her food is ******* bad for you … plus, her food sucks.” He also called her the “worst, most dangerous person in America.”

So much for professional courtesy!

In True GRIT fashion, when interviewed on FOX News, Paula responded by saying she was “shocked”, wondering if it’s a “publicity thing” or

maybe ”“somebody had just peed in his bowl of cereal that morning.”

Gotta love that True GRITS attitude!

Truth be known, that True GRITS attitude is what is missing in society today! So much of our society has come to depend on the government when they fall on hard times, rather than the God-given strength that we are all given.

I’m not sure how Mr. Bourdain comes to the conclusion that Paula is the “most danger person in America”, but one could very well call into question his mental capacity if he truly sees things that way. With our society in the shambles it is currently in, a lady who has not depended on the government to get her out of hard times, but rather has made something of herself in spite of her circumstances, most certainly should be admired and used as an example rather than condemned.

On second thought- Paula Deen may very well be the most dangerous person in America- for the government! If she is the example to follow, big government will fail!

Food Futures Slide Monday

During the mini-crash of August 2011, stories of a market slide and gold going through the roof were prevalent. What no one seemed to be talking about is food futures.

September wheat dropped twenty two and a half cents per bushel to $6.57 and corn dropped 0.17 to $6.86 a bushel. Oats and soybeans also took significant drops as the entire set of major grain futures took a nosedive.

Beef and pork futures also slid lower, but why?

Petroleum products dear friend – that’s why. Across the board Oil, Natural Gas, gasoline, all of them dropped. Usually when commodities sink it’s due to a strengthening dollar. Not this time.

If all commodities futures were falling, a weakening greenback might be to blame, but gold is having no trouble reaching new highs. Closing at 1760+ on Monday, gold is showing all the strength of a temporary safe refuge for money that investors can’t put elsewhere.

Food, grain, oil and fuel are falling because the speculators have seen the same reports the rest of the universe has – the second recession is here. Upon expected dwindling demand, prices will fall.

Gold is NOT seeing anything close to a slowing demand curve. It is precisely where many are moving their money in anticipation of what will almost certainly come next – another round of money printing.

While food may drop short-term, Americans are in for more quantitative easing (a.k.a. federal reserve printing money) which will further devalue the dollar and require more greenbacks to purchase the very goods that are currently on a downward price trajectory.

This is a temporary descending blip. Food and energy will become more expensive as the dollar becomes diluted by further irresponsible printing and that’s what all those gold buyers already seem to know.

Conservative Hasner vs Charlie Crist re-do, Liberal George Lemieux for U.S. Senate Seat

Senator Bill Nelson ( D-Fl) is widely viewed today as too much of a far left Liberal across my State of Florida, and the battle for his U.S. Senate seat is already underway big-time. In one corner we have Charlie Crist re-make current Senator George LeMieux who has done nothing more than act like a liberal in his short time in the U.S. Senate. Also of note is the fact that George LeMieux was appointed to fill the Senate seat vacated by Mel Martinez by none other than…. Charlie Crist! LeMieux was also Crist’s chief of staff before Crist gave him his current U.S..Senate seat in 2009. We got rid of the flaky Charlie Crist in 2010, and now it’s time to get rid of his Liberal protege’ George LeMieux once and for all. Among other things pointing to LeMieex’s love for bigger bloated government regulations, was his vote for the Food Safety Bill, formally known as the Food Safety Modernization Act.

The price tag for that big government expansion and control of Americans lives is so huge that they haven’t even been able to put a total price tag on it. Every U.S. Senator who voted for this scam needs to be fired in 2012, period! The list of progressive Republican Senators who voted for this treason is like a who’s who of big government RINOS: S.Collins (R-ME), O. Snowe (R-ME),  M Kirk (R-IN), R.Lugar (R-IN), S.Brown (R- MA), M.Johanns (R- NE), L.Alexander (R- Tenn), M. Enzi (R- WY), L. Murkowski (R-AK), Burr (R-NC),Grassely (R-IA), Gregg (R-NH), Vitter (R-LA), and Voinovich (R-OH), and quite to the contrary on the vote announced over at govtrackus, that somehow has not published George LeMieux’s YES vote along with 5 other YES votes by Liberal fake Republicans,, this site does publish his YES vote. Also from that site is the disturbing fact that this vote was rigged: (Special thanks to Michelle Malkin for keeping us informed on this also.)

Chris Moody at the Daily Caller reports on a hot mic moment of candor caught on the Senate floor:

A hot mic left on during a Senate vote Tuesday morning on the Food Safety Act caught a senator complaining that process of setting the agenda during the lame-duck session is “rigged.”

“It’s all rigged. The whole conversation is rigged,” a currently unknown member on the Senate floor said. “The fact that we don’t get to a discussion before the break about what we’re going to do in the lame duck . It’s just rigged. ”

The remark was picked up live on C-SPAN 2, although microphones are usually turned down during voting times. An aide quickly realized the mistake, jumped up and had the sound cut off.

Adam Hasner, the former State House Majority leader here in Florida, has solid conservative creds, much to the dismay of the D.A.M. and their media puppets ,who have tried in vain to paint Hasner as a moderate flake like George LeMieux. From TheDailyCaller:

Florida-based media consultant Rick Wilson, who has signed on  to  Hasner’s campaign, fired back Friday at LeMieux. “In what comes as  no surprise,  George LeMieux, Charlie Crist’s long time puppet-master, is  back to his old  tricks, trying the same kind of false and deceptive  attacks that failed when  LeMieux attacked Marco Rubio.”  “George  LeMieux is desperate to hide the fact he is a lifelong liberal   disguised as a Republican,” Wilson added. “He is as hypocritical as he is  vicious and untruthful. Adam Hasner’s conservative voting record speaks for itself, as does George  LeMieux’s continued role as the  successor to the Charlie Crist legacy.

The U.S. Senate elections of 2012 are of vital importance, so pay attention to the Liberal progressives hiding within the Republican party mentioned above and vote them out in 2012 ! Here in Florida both Bill nelson and George LeMieux are prime examples of why our government has grown so big and powerful that we are now on the verge of bankruptcy here in America. Future generations of Americans will be burdened with the weight of this massive debt being brought onto them by these irresponsible politicians. Take note of them and vote accordingly!

Revisiting S510- The Food Safety Bill

Our government is operating way out of bounds concerning The Food Safety Bill and its passage. In December of 2010, I witnessed Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) explaining The Food safety Bill on C-Span 2. Mr Durbin had a huge chart with him that showed that the next ten years of implementing the Food safety Bill, (as it was known then) would not increase the national Debt.  He had it laid out with all zeroes under the cost section of each year.

How can creating thousands of additional government positions along with the equipment to operate costs the taxpayer zero dollars? Then it hit me. It will be paid for by new higher food taxes and/or prices passed down to the consumer! So at it’s roots, The Food Safety Bill is another stealth tax that our Congress failed once again to inform the citizens about. (Unless you think the thousands of people who will have to be hired to enforce this plan will work for free?) Meanwhile, decent Americans were caught up in the argument that this bill would make their home gardens illegal and other propaganda to distract them.

I also found myself wondering why this bill was being rammed through during the Lame Duck session of Congress in late December. Yes, it did have prior limited debate in both houses of congress.. Yet true to the Democratic party’s method of operation during the last two years, the final process was rushed and fraught with partisanship. Then it was passed illegally in the Senate, due to Article 1 section 7 of the US Constitution, which states the following: “All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives”; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills. Section 107 of the Food Safety Bill is titled: Authority to collect fees. (making S510 null and void) So many Americans applauded this as meaning the Bill was dead on arrival in 2010, and would have to be completely redone. Not with the 111th Congress being controlled by Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, (along with Republicans who seemed to forget what being a conservative is supposed to mean) No sir.

Keep in mind here, that the American public was being bombarded with the Tax Cut/Increase debate at the same time. When I wonder why Republicans seemingly let this Food Safety Bill get passed during a recession, I come to the conclusion that the Tax debate had to be relevant. Was there some kind of a deal made? Who, in their right mind would increase the price of food drastically during a recession when unemployment is darn near 10% ? When the Food safety Bill (S510 at the time) was passed contrary to the Constitution, I thought like everyone else did, that it was dead. Then I turn on C-Span during the lame duck session, and there is Dick Durbin and his chart, telling us that this bill will not increase the debt again.

I put in calls to my Senators demanding an explanation. I received exactly zero answers or explanations. Two days later I received my answers in the form of HR 2751, “A bill to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act with respect to the safety of the food supply”. Say what? From govtrack.us ( accessed on 01/08/2011)**,  I just what had happened to the original S510 Food Safety Bill:

“This bill [S. 510] was superseded by H.R. 2751. On Sunday, December 19, the text of S. 510 replaced the original text of H.R. 2751, and the bill passed by voice vote. H.R. 2751, originally the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Act, passed the House in June 2009 and was a “vehicle” for the passage of S. 510 in a House-originating bill because S. 510 was a revenue-raising bill. All revenue-raising bills must originate in the House.”

This bill [S. 510] never became law. This bill was proposed in a previous session of Congress. Sessions of Congress last two years, and at the end of each session all proposed bills and resolutions that haven’t passed are cleared from the books. Members often reintroduce bills that did not come up for debate under a new number in the next session. “

The following is a short summary of this whole process, again accessed from govtrack.us on 01/08/2011***

Dec 29, 2010: Presented to President.

See the Related Legislation page for other bills related to this one and a list of subject terms that have been applied to this bill. Sometimes the text of one bill or resolution is incorporated into another, and in those cases the original bill or resolution, as it would appear here, would seem to be abandoned.

Jun 9, 2009: This bill passed in the House of Representatives by roll call vote. The vote was held under a suspension of the rules to cut debate short and pass the bill, needing a two-thirds majority. This usually occurs for non-controversial legislation. The totals were 298 Ayes, 119 Nays, 17 Present/Not Voting

Dec 19, 2010: This bill passed in the Senate with changes by Voice Vote. A record of each senator’s position was not kept. (Therefore, NO Senators up for reelection in 2012 can be held accountable for passing higher food prices onto us during a bad economy)

Dec 21, 2010: A vote in the House of Representatives to agree with the other chamber’s changes passed by roll call vote. The totals were 215 Ayes, 144 Nays, 74 Present/Not Voting. ( not doing what we pay them to do)”

In conclusion, we must look at the complete picture here to understand just what has happened and how it was done. First, this bill was titled The Food Safety Act. America has had the safest record in Food safety in the world for over 100 years. To put this into perspective, the fake baby formula episode in China resulted in more deaths, then food poisoning has in America in the last 10 years. So this has nothing to do with actual food safety and everything to do with increasing the size and scope of our government by adding thousands new positions and regulations. There were no “massive epidemics” as some people in our Congress were spewing during debate on it.

Secondly is the “reported costs” to the taxpayer. The CBO has hedged on producing a firm estimate, yet once again projections have risen from 1.4B to 4.2 B yearly. Those billions are in new tax dollars, by the way, as there wasn’t even an attempt to cut waste, fraud or redundant positions within the incompetent FDA, when passing this bill. Spend, Spend ,Spend.

Last but certainly not least, are the people who were behind this power grab/stealth tax debacle. Over 200 big company lobbyists spent millions pushing this through. Once again the little man is left out and not allowed a voice in this discussion. Small farmers will be driven out of business, and our food prices will rise drastically. There is no solid information that gaurantees our food supply will be made safer, and we will pay higher food prices. This bill should be repealed, and an honest debate be opened up which includes all Americans, not just the ones who will enrich themselves through bribing corrupt politicians through Lobbyist dollars. Enough is enough.

When Corn Prices Rise Our Government .. Regulates Food

Corn shortage causes prices to riseWelcome to Bazaaro-world – otherwise known as the United States with a liberal Congress.

A November 18th Bloomberg article illustrates what’s happening:

China’s State Council said on its website yesterday that price caps will be used on “important daily necessities” and production materials, if necessary. U.S. soybean inventories before next year’s harvest will be 30 percent less than forecast in October, and corn reserves may drop to the lowest since 1996, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said last week.

The Chinese are worried that we aren’t producing enough Soybeans and Corn to sustain their requirements.  Surprise, we aren’t producing enough to satisfy ours either.

Some believe that China, the world’s second largest corn producer behind the U.S. is a net exporter – no longer.  The Bloomberg report continues:

China became a net importer of corn this past year for the first time in 14 years, USDA data show. The nation will buy 57 million metric tons of soybeans in the marketing year that began Oct. 1, up 13 percent from the previous year, the USDA said Nov. 9.

China no longer produces enough corn to feed its own people.  There is no fall back position. How long until we can’t feed Americans any more?  We won’t have anyone to import from, so then what?  In Obama’s words costs, “..would necessarily skyrocket”.

By itself the huge climb in corn prices is alarming.  Many grocery items that we all rely on require corn or its derivatives -corn syrup, corn flour, corn meal, etc.  But that’s not the only thing that should have your alarm bells ringing.  Just as corn, soy and cotton prices have started to climb, our government has decided to act – to regulate food.

Senate bill 510 (S. 510) is the “FDA Food Safety Modernization Act”.  This bill seeks to update the “Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act”.  If passed, it would certainly update existing law, but the changes are disconcerting.

When first read, the bill appears harmless.  It’s only when read again, with the context of the global food crisis that things stick out.  Let’s take the wording of the very first two titles (emphasis mine):

Granted, the “capacity” statements seem to be around building larger government agencies and capabilities.  The question is why?  Are we expecting a sudden threat to our food supply or perhaps such a shortage that we will have to try to get corn, soy and other food stuffs from someplace else.

These first two sections certainly illustrate a known concern about our ability to produce enough food, the third .. nails it:

Digging into S. 510, the details are not comforting.  Title one contains registration section.  It forces even the smallest food producers to register with the government.  Why?  Why does the government care about someones cucumber and tomato garden if there are already plenty of cucumbers on the market.  Then again, what happens when there are no longer enough cucumbers?

There is no way to know if this is coincidence or happenstance.   Corn and Soy prices skyrocket and suddenly the Senate takes a cloture vote on legislation that is more than a year old.  This bill was introduced in March of 2009 and just sat there for 18 months.  Then food prices rise, the Chinese signal a shortage and the Senate thinks this bill needs attention.  Always the question – why?

Tsarina Michelle, I Don’t Like Carrots Much

If it wasn’t bad enough that the real Obarrassment was destroying free choice and individual freedom, his wife has taken on another who segment of our lives – food.

We are admonished for making too much money, taxed out of smoking cigarettes, discouraged from drinking alcohol (although we clearly need it in this political climate), and now.. forced to eat carrots.

Tsarina Michele is now saying, “let them eat carrots”.  We are in the middle of the worst economy in decades and she’s worried that we aren’t eating our veggies.

Michelle Obamma made the case that we should all be forced to eat more healthy.  What does that mean?

Well healthy according to Queen/Goddess Obama is:

  • No French fries with burgers
  • No burgers
  • No meat
  • wait .. so no steaks or ribs?  Brisket or shoulders?
  • What about beans ( I remember a childhood saying about how good for my heart that they are) – ok.. we get to keep the beans

The first lady goes on to discuss how awful it is that we go out to eat.  While, as a frugal, fiscal Conservative I do not go out that often – when I do .. if something didn’t die to complete my plate .. I’m not interested.  If it doesn’t sound incredibly appealing . I am not paying for it.  I like meat and if I am going out for meat .. I don’t want it Politically Corrected.  So Michelle can keep her apple wedge sides and tomato juice appetizers – I’ll just have to stop going to small business-owned restaurants and eat unhealthy at home.

This spousal pair of short-bus rejects has managed to take over manufacturing, banking, student loan finance .. you name it.  NOT ONE of their policies has improved the lives of Americans.  GM has an overpriced, undesirable electric boondoggle of a car, health care insurers have to raise premiums to deal with the cost increases from Obamacare, and now Bank of America is having to push new fees on its customers due to the wall street reform disaster .. at what point do you think following them will do you any good?  The Micky D’s $1 menu will be replaced by a fruit basket.  Buffalo wings will be outlawed, and ribs .. forget it.  Wake up or prepare for a vegetarian lifestyle.  Then again, after the Obarrassments ruined every other segment of our economy, maybe this is just a shot at completing the flush.

To quote Monica Crowley from this morning’s Red Eye, “Michelle and Barrack Obama .. get the hell out of my lunch!”
