Grasping at Energy Straws

In February 2012 New York Democratic Senator Charles Schumer called upon Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to request Saudi Arabia increase their oil production to make up for potential disruptions in the world’s oil supply resulting from Iranian saber-rattling. Schumer’s unhidden rationale was that such a pledge from the Saudis would drive down gasoline prices in America

This ill-advised strategy was clearly politically driven. While the idea of higher gasoline prices, and the accompanying increase in the price of gas dependent goods and services is consistently rejected by average Americans, this is a blatantly partisan call for a short-term fix. This temporary, non-solution, suggested in order to perpetuate the false narrative that America’s economy is improving thanks to “progressive” policy decisions does absolutely nothing to reduce America’s dependency on foreign oil. Quite to the contrary, it exacerbates it.

On March 15, 2012 Reuters reported that during British Prime Minister David Cameron’s recent trip to the U.S. the current White House occupant proposed releasing emergency oil reserves as a way to reduce world oil prices.

Were the White House to make such a decision, it would be yet another desperate attempt to lower gas prices by whatever means possible. Tapping into the emergency oil reserves is a bad idea. Those reserves are there for use during a pressing national emergency. Tapping in to them every time there’s an increase in the price of a barrel of oil is both gross mismanagement and a misguided misapplication of the stockpile. Not only will the reserves need to be replenished with what might well turn out to be more expensive oil, tapping into them now does nothing to address the long-term problem.

“progressives” continue to grasp at short-term straws frantically trying to make themselves look good in the eyes of low information, sound bite voters. They’re willing to do whatever it takes to win the 2012 election, even if decisions made to make themselves look good in the short term are not sound long term solutions. As radical “progressive” political strategist and leftist hero Saul Alinsky dictated: the ends justify the means.

In the interest of national security and job creation, the United States should put Americans back to work delivering American energy to Americans. This is the best way for America to become energy independent while boosting the economy. Trying to force “green energy” on America’s economy overnight will only contribute to the collapse of that economy. Evidence: Spain’s troubled financial situation and extremely high unemployment.

America doesn’t need a broken economy. America doesn’t need short-term price fixes driven by partisan political decisions. America needs and deserves sound, long term solutions that will result in energy independence.

Drill here. Drill now.

“progressives” Don’t Care if Americans Suffer at the Pump

There’s widespread consensus in the United States that America needs to become less dependent on foreign oil. America’s growing, ongoing dependence on foreign sources puts her at ever-greater risk in an unstable world. This instability drives the costs higher.

Progressives who feel an overwhelming compulsion to immediately replace America’s existing carbon economy with a green one couldn’t be happier with the higher costs. The current administration and fellow progressives continue to push America towards the green end, come what may. Stiffer regulations on auto makers, stifling EPA regulations on energy producers, refusals by the White House to permit development of domestic resources, quid quo pro government funded paybacks to big “progressive” campaign donors involved in green energy companies litter the landscape.

While such progressive actions may eventually “nudge” America towards green energies, they’re hurting the American economy at exactly the wrong time…the very moment when there’s a tepid turn towards possible recovery from a painfully deep recession that’s led to unacceptably high levels of long term unemployment.

America’s public and industrial infrastructures are based on the use of conventional fuels: petroleum, natural gas, coal and nuclear power. While there are moves to convert more public sector automobiles and mass transportation vehicles to natural gas, the overwhelming majority of Americans drive or ride in vehicles that burns gasoline or diesel fuel. Natural gas and heating oil are used in furnaces to heat homes and places of business. Coal, natural gas and nuclear plants generate electricity which powers countless devices, the uses of which are taken for granted every day. Coal, natural gas and petroleum products power American’s industrial complex, the base of her economic engine. Clearly, America’s economy depends very heavily on these existing sources of power. These methods of providing and consuming energy are all deeply ingrained into America’s businesses, manufacturing and home life.

It’s entirely impractical to expect to change the method of powering an entire society of over 300 million people overnight. It’s going to take a lot of time to finish such a task. More time than most people realize. Indeed, far more than is believed by those who continue living in “progressive” fantasyland. First, before making any such transition becomes practical, green energy alternatives must become economically competitive with conventional fuels. Today, they are not.

In the meantime, what energy’s going to be used in the manufacture, delivery and installation of all those windmills, solar panels, turbines, generators and power grid needed to provide renewable energy to the public, the renewable energy delivery system that has yet to be built? No, sorry. Traditional fuels will generate the energy that’s going to be used.

Why does America continue to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on foreign energy? Why isn’t the United States keeping those billions of dollars at home, in its own economy? At a time when millions of Americans are out of work and the economy is starving for liquid capital, why isn’t the United States taking advantage of its own wealth of natural resources?

Why does this progressive government continuously oppose giving Americans jobs drilling for oil and natural gas or digging for coal? Why does this “progressive” government persistently fight putting people to work building refineries and power plants? What does this progressive government have against giving energy employees jobs delivering oil, coal and natural gas to consumers? How many peripheral jobs will be created in the process? For every new oil well, power plant, refinery or mine built there will be a need to build new roads, restaurants, stores, churches, schools, and housing. All brought to you courtesy of the private sector.

In the interest of national security and job creation, America should put Americans back to work delivering American energy to Americans. This is the only way the United States economy will be able to afford making whatever “investments” in green energy make economic sense.

Meanwhile, the very people who argue that they’re the ones who care about the little guy will force those little guys to pay increasingly higher gas prices until they’ve submitted to the prescribed “change”. Demonstrably, progressives don’t care if Americans suffer at the pump.

President Obama Shows Off His Singing Voice – While Others Look for a Reason to Sing

It was nice to see our President in a light hearted mood at his fund raiser on Thursday evening, and he has an amazing voice.

I did experience some gladness to see him smile, and to hear the audience enjoy themselves; because many Americans today don’t have much of a reason to smile. He certainly bears a burden we are not acquainted with.
The problems facing our country are serious.
Very grave indeed.

For example, our rate of unemployment must weigh heavily on his mind.
For that reason, I cannot fathom his decision to block forward movement in regards to the Keystone Pipeline project – a project that would have employed twenty-thousand people.
Many Americans stand bewildered, turning the facts over, attempting to make sense out of them like a person who is holding a Rubik’s Cube for the first time.

Men and women who don’t have work, who have run out of unemployment benefits, whose daily burden includes “How am I going to feed my family today, and is it going to be spaghetti with no meat in the sauce, AGAIN?” are acquainted, not with song, not with fund raiser’s show stoppers, but with tears.

Men and Women who don’t have work do not have the finances to sit in fund raiser’s seats that go for one hundred dollars per ticket. “Hmmm”, the father and mother think, “Do we go and see the President, or do we buy groceries for two weeks?”
The VIP tickets for Thursday night’s event were sold for twenty-five thousand dollars apiece.

Twenty-five thousand dollars for one seat – for one night.
A year’s worth of pay for so many Americans.

For that price, perhaps our President could have sung the entire song…

What we need to see, is not a show.
We need to see a a change of heart in this recent pipeline decision.

I think Congressman West said it best when he said,

“It is absolutely irresponsible that the President would block a project such as the Keystone XL pipeline – a project that industry experts say would create at least 20,000 American jobs and be essential in helping jumpstart the American economy.
This decision today is further evidence that President Obama is not serious about setting the conditions for job creation nor working towards our energy independence as it relates to our national security.
Once again, President Obama has shown that his reelection and pandering to his left wing liberal environmental base is more important than securing the future for our nation. The ramifications of this utterly disturbing politically motivated decision will be far and wide.” (emphasis mine)

Perhaps you are wondering why Conressman West mentioned energy independence and how it could contribute to national security?

Well, we purchase oil from the very nations that want to enslave the entire world in the religion of Islam. We fund terrorist organizations while we fill our gas tanks. This is not news to men and women in Washington. They are more familiar, than any of us, with the threats against our nation.

You see, a plan was written in 1991 that detailed efforts behind Stealth Jihad – The Cultural Plan to topple the United States.
It was very similiar to the one that was written in the eighties to topple Europe.
This plan was used as evidence in one of the largest trials in our history against terrorists.

On the last page of that plan are twenty-nine Islamic Radical Organizations in the United States that are FRONTS for the Muslim Brotherhood.

The same Muslim Brotherhood that was developed in 1928 with the plan to set up an Islamic Calliphate that would rule the world.
It sounds preposterous, doesn’t it?
Presposterous!!!…..Until you pause to look at Europe.
France alone has seventy-plus “no-go” zones that are controlled by muslims. Police will not go into these areas.

One of the organizations – a terrorist front organization – listed on the court document is ISNA – The Islamic Society of North America.

Did you know that they are the current advisors to the President on Middle East policy?

When you take this knowledge into consideration, you will understand that Congressman Allen West knows what he is talking about when he says energy independence is crucial to the security of our nation.

It makes you wonder, why exactly would our President block the issuance of the Keystone Pipeline permit – a permit that would BLESS this nation financially, and eventually PROTECT it from the threats it faces?

Why would he block such a permit and then go on to sing at a fund raiser, to the very Americans he is – in fact – betraying by his own decisions?

Pray for our President. He is burdened, it is true. I don’t even begrudge him the golf games that he no doubt needs to usher peace into his life.
Pray that God give him wisdom, that he repent of the wretched decisions he is making.

I am partially glad that our President had an enjoyable evening. He carries a burden that we do not carry and won’t, unless we walk a mile in his shoes; however, I am equally, no, more grieved that it was at our expense.

While President Obama was busy last night crooning at a fund raiser, his own citizens went to bed without the promise of security, without the promise of those twenty-thousand pipeline jobs, and some, without food.

They went to bed last night without a reason to sing.

Obama 2012 Holiday Message: Children vs Parents (Part 2)

In part 1 of Obama 2012 Holiday Message: Children vs Parents, President Obama’s Home for the Holidays: Share Why You are Working to Re-elect President Obama campaign video that tells America’s youth to go home and convert their parents into Obama-supporters was detailed.

In part 2 of the Obama 2012 Holiday Message: Children vs Parents we will examine a few examples of a hypothetical holiday conversion between those “stubborn and set in their ways” old parents, their live-in Grandmother, and Tommy’s new generation of hope and change operatives that President Obama has asked to convert them into Obama-supporters.

Part 2: Tommy Attempts to Convert the Family into Obama-Supporters at Christmas Dinner.

Background: Tommy graduated with a Liberal Arts degree back in 2007, yet hasn’t had a job in four years, other than a recent 3-day stint as an Occupy Wall Street protester, where his $5000.00 dollar laptop, his blackberry, his PSP2, and his North Slope ski jacket were stolen. He lives at home with Mom, Dad, and his Grandmother, a retired Nurse. They sat down to Christmas dinner and Tommy steered the conversation towards the 2012 elections, just as Barack Obama’s video suggested. The following is the hypothetical Christmas dinner conversation between Tommy and his family.

After some idle chit-chat, the Christmas dinner talk turned towards politics when Tommy state, “President Obama has given us wonderful things during his Presidency, such as Healthcare reform, ending the war in Iraq, and repealing the Don’t as Don’t Tell ban on gays serving openly in the military. President Obama also killed the terrorist al-Awlaki. He is my generation’s President, and everyone in this house should open their eyes to his great achievements during the past three years, and vote to reelect him in 2012.” As all heads turned towards Tommy, his father replied:

“I,m very glad that you brought up the 2012 elections and President Obama’s accomplishments Tommy, because your Mother and I were just planning our 2012 household budget recently, and we have decided to make a few changes here at home in the coming new year. Change you can believe in, as they say. Change number one for this household in 2012 will be as follows: During the last three years [Of Obama’s term as President] our electric bill has increased by $72.00 a month here in Florida, so there will have to be some serious limitations put on your basement living quarter’s allotments of daily electricity. We have installed a new green energy approved electric meter for the basement area in which the amount of time spent on the computer and video gaming will be cut back to a maximum of 2 hours daily. If President Obama continues to wage his war on domestic energy production here in America, there could be more cutbacks on your personal electricity usage in 2012. Use your time wisely. Change number two: With the Obama-care law that says we have to keep you on our health insurance policy until you reach the age of 26, coupled with the huge increases in our healthcare premiums due to the passage of Obama-care, we will have to cancel your car insurance payments to help offset the cost of your healthcare premiums. You see Tommy, we are not like President Obama and the U.S treasury in that we can’t just print more money to pay our bills, because we have to earn our money and spend it wisely to ensure our future survival. If you ask Granny cranky-pants nice enough, maybe she will let you borrow her 1973 Chevette to do your Obama-organizing errands. How about it Granny?”

To which Granny replied: “Well, I,m sure Tommy and I can work something out to let him borrow my Chevette from time to time, because I too have been going over my 2012 fixed-income budget, and have decided that I will have to cut back on certain spending habits if I am to afford the latest Medicare premium increases Obama and the Congress recently announced. My first change will be to downgrade the internet conection I have been needlessly paying for in this house for the last 4 years. I found a deal where I can get basic internet for only $14.99 a month. I asked the lady at the cable company just what is this high-speed internet connection that I am paying $59.99 a month for and why do I need it just to check my emails a few times a month? Turns out she informed that I do not need high-sped internet, as I do not watch movies, play games or pass around reelect Barack Obama videos. Starting Jan 1st, we will have basic internet service which will save me $45.00 a month. Even though Betsy, (my 1973 Chevette) gets 32 miles per gallon, with the sky high prices of gasoline expected to skyrocket again in 2012 thanks to Obama’s anti-U.S. Domestic Energy production policies, I have been struggling just to afford enough gas to get to my monthly doctor’s appointments and church. That $45 dollar a month savings will ensure that I can get to my doctor’s appointments when Obama delivers those skyrocketing energy prices he has promised everyone.”

With all eyes on Tommy, the Christmas dinner table fell eerily quiet as Mom, Dad and Grandma awaited Tommie’s reply. After a few moments of contemplation, Tommy announced: “This is not how a Democracy works and my voice will be heard in this house. I have rights. I am going down to my basement apartment and report this conversation to the OWS General Assembly, after which I will offer up my counter proposals to these unfair Right Wing home budget cuts you all want to impose on me in 2012.”

Mom spoke up for the first time during this Christmas dinner table discussion, as Tommy was sure she would see the Obama-light and take his side in this debate. “Well Tommy, what your Father and Grandma have said here are all based on the simple facts of life. The fact is, a family can not live beyond it’s means if it wants to ensure a safe, secure, and comfortable future. To do this families must tighten their belts in troubled economic times. With the cost of gasoline, food, electricity and everyday necessities skyrocketing today, we must make tough, sensible budget decisions to ensure that we can pay our mortgage to ensure we all have a roof over our heads in 2012 and beyond. Money doesn’t grow on trees Tommy, it has to be earned and spent wisely. Due to the current state of the economy and the price of everything increasing despite the Obama administration telling everyone their is no inflation since he took office, I have decided to go back to work in order to help keep us afloat. As I will not be home 24/7 to do such things as family laundry, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, taking care of our dogs, etc. I am working on making some household changes of my own in 2012. We will discuss these changes over New Years dinner, when your brother Grover, the CPA will be joining us to make final plans for our 2012 household budget.”

As Tommy scowled and threw his napkin onto his dinner plate and got up to leave, his father added: “While we all look forward to hearing your OWS-inspired counter-demands Tommy, keep this in mind. This country is a Republic, not a Democracy. When it comes to spending the members of this household’s hard-earned money and keeping our household budget in line, the only votes that will count will be the ones that come from the folks paying the bills around here. We do not have the luxury of spending other people’s hard-earned money and borrowing trillions of dollars on the taxpayer’s bank account to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. We look forward to hearing what you have to say at the New Years dinner table, where your brother Grover will unveil our new 2012 household budget for all to see.”

In Part 3, Tommy delivers his counter-proposals to the 2012 family household budget plans, his CPA-brother Grover tightens the household budget even further, and Granny chimes in with some shocking revelations about the effects of Obama-care on her personal well-being.

How Many Foreign Governments are Drilling for Oil, Gas in the U.S. ?

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says he has no idea how many foreigners are extracting American gas and oil, while answering questions at a House Committee on Natural Resources hearing held on Nov. 16, 2011.

During the hearing, Rep. David Rivera (R-FL) told Salazar that his staff has asked two divisions of Salazar’s Interior Dept., the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, (BOEM) for a list of foreign energy companies that own leases in the U.S.

Continuing a pattern of Obama administration appointees blatantly ignoring Congressional requests for information, Salazar and company refused or were unable to supply the information. The Secretary of the Interior of the United States of America appeared quite uninformed during this hearing on such things as how many foreign governments are drilling for oil and gas on American lands and offshore in American waters. The following are part of the hearing’s question and answer session with Mr. Salazar:

Rep Rivera: “It’s my understanding, in order for a foreign government owned company to operate in the U.S. and bid on leases in the U.S., they must first be incorporated in the United States. Is that correct?

Ken Salazar: : “I don’t know the answer that question.”

RIVERA: “OK. Well, recently, my staff contacted the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and the Bureau of Land Management to try to get a list of all foreign government-owned companies that have leases in the United States. And they were surprised to learn that the government doesn’t keep a database of what companies are foreign government-owned. The foreign government-owned companies are just mixed in with the regular privately owned companies. So I believe it’ll be useful to at least be able to track these companies and what government owns them. Could you help me with that, get that information? “

SALAZAR: We will. And let me ask, for the record, Abbey or Beaudreau have any information on that question?

(UNKNOWN): It is correct that, in order to obtain a federal OCS lease, a company needs to be registered in the United States through the relevant State Department.

So federal energy leases must be registered with the State Dept., yet no one seems capable of telling Rep. Rivera how many foreign governments and companies are drilling for oil and gas in the U.S. They are either totally incompetent, or simply refusing to tell Americans the truth, take your pick there. Then the issues of Spain’s drilling for oil in Cuban waters 70 miles off of our coast came up.

Rep Rivera: A few months ago, I believe in June, you were in Spain and spoke to Repsol officials regarding their proposed drilling plans in Cuban waters. Is that correct, Mr. Secretary?

Salazar: That is correct.

Rivera: And in that meeting or any other meeting you’ve had with Repsol officials, did you — a topic come up or reiterate United States policy on doing business with state sponsors of terrorism or have any discussions to discourage their actions in Cuba?

Salazar: ( As he attempts to dodge the question) You know, our focus, Congressman Rivera, has been to make sure that we do everything within the legal boundaries that we can operate in to protect the environment and the people of the United States.

Rivera: So I would — I would that to mean more of a cooperative effort to make sure and protect the people of the United States, which is important, to make sure and do every possible measure to do that. But you’re telling me nothing was ever done by you to discourage their participation in collaborating with a state sponsor of terrorism in those offshore oil-drilling efforts. ( emphasis mine)

Salazar: We do not have authority over other countries on what they do with respect to their…
Rivera: I understand. I know you can’t stop them, but do you ever try to discourage?
Salazar: Our program, Congressman Rivera, has to been to make sure that we do everything we can within our legal power.
Rivera: OK. Well, let’s talk about the…
Salazar: … environment of the United States. ( still trying to deflect the real question asked)
Rivera: Let’s talk about the legal power. In terms of in terms of the — did you ever up bring up having the Bureau of Industry and Security also be allowed to inspect the rate (ph) to ensure that the Export Administration Act and the Export Administration Regulations 10 percent de minimum U.S. content rule were being respected, speaking of legal authority? Had that issue ever come up?
Salazar: You know, Congressman Rivera, this is an issue where the State Department and other agencies have the lead. And we are participating because of our expertise. But I do know whether those conversations took place, and I don’t have an answer to your question.
Rivera: OK, well, recently colleagues of mine here, along with Chairman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen sent a letter to the president regarding this issue. Mr. Chairman, with your permission, I’d like to ask that that letter be submitted for the record.
Chairman Hastings: Without objection, it’ll be part of the record.
Rivera: Thank you.
I think it’s of great concern by the lack of effort in this administration — administration-wide, whether it be your agency, State Department or anyone else, that no effort has been made to previous a state sponsor of terrorism to drill approximately 60-70 miles off of Florida’s coast and providing economic aid and comfort to the dying Castro dictatorship.
And I hope that, in the future, the administration will do everything to make sure that companies comply with sanctions that apply to businesses that do cooperate with sponsors of state terrorism, by perhaps, in your — in your agency, withdrawing leases on federal lands and waters.
That could be a start to certainly send a signal that that — that this type of activity is certainly frowned upon, collaborating with terrorist regimes.
Finally, Mr. Chairman, I’d like to draw attention with my colleagues, to legislation I have introduced with Congresswoman Ros- Lehtinen and Congressman Diaz-Balart and Representative Sires, the Foreign Oil Spill Liability Act, that would apply the same oil pollution act responsibilities and liabilities and Clean Water Act penalties that a domestic responsibility party would face to a foreign responsible party for a spill that pollutes U.S. waters and beaches.
The penalty, the liabilities would be triple. Currently, the burden is much lower on foreign spillers, forcing the American taxpayer to cover the cleanup costs, and members can contact my office if they wish more information on that legislation.
That’s all I have. Thank you, Mr. Secretary

Mr Salazar implemented a moratorium in the Gulf of Mexico( upon Obama’s orders) which stopped drilling and exploration  in June of 2010. Many rigs pulled out of the Gulf, possibly never to return. At the same time the Obama administration gave Brazil 2 billion taxpayer dollars to further their own oil drilling.  Ken Salazar went on another taxpayer funded junket to Spain to give his approval for Respol to drill 70 miles off the coast of America for a state sponsor of terrorism, Fidel Castro’s Cuba.

Thank you Rep. Rivera for demanding the truth about just how many foreign governments and corporations are now drilling for oil and gas in America and her territorial waters. It is nothing short of ludicrous that the Secretary of the Interior supposedly does not know this information, or just refuses to comply with congressional requests for the data. We the people have the right to know just who is being allowed to extract our own oil and gas, and why foreign governments and corporations are now taking precedence over American companies in our very own energy sector. China has the monopoly on the solar panel industry and now it seems like our government wants to allow foreigners to attain a larger share of the world’s oil and gas reserves, including those right here in America. ( The price of gasoline has risen another 20% since last week, just in time for the heavy travel season of Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Years.)
2012 just can’t get here fast enough!
Footnote: For a complete list of foreign companies drilling in just the Gulf region alone, see this fact-sheet, from virginia.edu. Major oil Companies Operating in the Gulf Region.
