The Butler movie in theaters right now, starring Forest Whitaker and Opera Winfrey offers wonderful insight into the evils committed to the black communities in the history of our country. Whitaker and Winfrey offer emotional and rich performances in the telling of this story, but the writing of the script depicting Republican presidents as weak, ineffectual or downright racist is jaw-droppingly inaccurate, unfair and detrimental to the historicity of the film.

I had high expectations for this film as it was warmly reviewed prior to it’s release. And in reviewing the film myself for the first time I can honestly say I would recommend it to anyone, despite it’s obvious flaws. The story follows the life of a black man, Cecil Gaines, who escapes from life as a sharecropper in the south to become a butler at the White House. After the rape of his mother and the murder of his father, the grandmother of the rapist takes young Cecil into their house and trains him to be a “house nigger”. Through that employment and good luck, Cecil gets a rudimentary education and training in the skills as a butler that eventually helps him launch a career in the service industry.

Cecil leaves his old life behind and gets work as a butler, getting some mentor ship from and older black butler. Eventually he gets hired by the White House and the story continues to follow his life in that role, through the presidential administrations of Eisenhower to Reagan. The story largely takes place in the ’60s during the height of the Civil Rights movement. There is conflict between two schools of thought, that of Malcolm X and the more peaceful resistance of Martin Luther King. It is unfortunate that Malcolm is not actually ever mentioned in the film, but the violent resistance of the Black Panthers is. Cecil’s son gets involved in this movement and it causes friction in the family.

Predictably, Hollywood has painted Democrats such as Kennedy and Obama as heroes of Civil Rights while painting Republicans like Eisenhower and Reagan as merely tepid, unwilling participants. Nixon gets the worst treatment, depicted as insincere, two-faced and pathetic.

The historical background of this film is so bad that even Wikipedia cites its obvious factual inaccuracies. According to Wiki, the story of The Butler is loosely based on the life of a real life African-American Butler Eugene Allen, who was employed at the White House. From there the similarities end. In the movie, the Cecil character resided as as sharecropper in Macon Georgia where he witnesses the horrible crimes committed to his family by white farmers. In truth, Allen lived in Virginia, and there is no evidence that any such crimes ever took place. In the movie Cecil has two sons, one a right leaning young man who dies in his country’s service in Vietnam and another a radical leftist who joins the Civil Rights movement and ultimately the ultra-violent Black Panther Party. In fact, Allen had only one son, who was indeed an activist, but not nearly as far left as portrayed in the movie.

In the Movie, Ronald Reagan gets some positive treatment as he and his wife Nancy invite the Cecil character and his wife to a White House dinner as a gesture for Cecil’s efforts to increase the pay and benefits of black White House employees to the same level as the white employees. Right after this scene however the memory of Reagan gets a slap in the face. Reagan’s gesture to Cecil and his family is marginalized as merely for show as the President is depicted as a shill who vindictively vetoes congressional efforts to pass measures to punish Apartheid in South Africa.

In fact, the historical records show that Reagan hated Apartheid and did everything he could to nudge the South African government to adopt a more moderate tone. He did indeed veto the congressional boycott, but the movie never explains why. In fact, Reagan was working with moderates to push the South African government and shied away from more radical elements so as to avoid unnecessary violence. In deed, Reagan feared that if the government fell it would be replaced by a more radical leftist totalitarian regime like many other African governments already had. At the time the US had a small contingent of free-market investments in South Africa and black Africans were being employed at US based firms in that country, earning a better wage and benefits than they could expect otherwise. In overcoming the President’s veto, congress forced sanctions on South Africa limiting the ability of private firms from investing in that country and hurting blacks that were finding a better life through employment in American firms as a result, just as Reagan feared it would.

Reagan was not the only politician libeled by this film. Eisenhower takes a hit too. Conversations overheard by Cecil indicate that President Eisenhower was weak on Civil Rights and unwilling to send troops to protect black children attending school in Little Rock Arkansas. Indeed the Supreme Court ruled segregation of public schools unconstitutional in its decision Brown vs. Board of Education that year, and Eisenhower did send troops to uphold that decision. Previous to the time line of the movie, Eisenhower desegregated the military when he was the Supreme Commander of allied forces in Europe during WWII in opposition of the wishes of his chief of staff. Government documents showed that Eisenhower was moving to desegregate schools on military reservations prior to the Supreme Court decision. Eisenhower further drafted sweeping Civil Rights legislation that would grant even more rights to blacks in this country, but the efforts were opposed and watered down by a democratically controlled senate. Eisenhower implemented a Civil Rights commission to focus attention on the issue of voting rights for black Americans and he was the first to hire an African-American to an executive position in the White House.

Ultimately, Eisenhower gets no credit from this movie script for his efforts to help black citizens struggling for their rights during his administration. President John Kennedy gets the credit though, as a hero for passing legislation in his administration granting those rights to blacks, a legislation by the way that mirrored the original intent of the Eisenhower bills.

It’s unfortunate that leftist Hollywood has to do this injustice to history. Indeed blacks in this country have suffered under the unfair and crushing yoke of oppression and slavery since the founding. But the selective interpretation of history by Hollywood is an unfair and an inaccurate representation of what actually happened. A millennial viewer of this movie will likely not dig into the facts of history to find out the truth, rather they will get their impression of history solely from movies like this, which is what the left intends. Disarmed by the propaganda, they will be continually led to believe that only Democrats and black leaders are responsible for their progress towards Civil Rights and not any white man, and certainly not one with an R behind their name.

This historical dramatic license prevents blacks in this country from getting the full picture and ultimately damages them by keeping the facts from them. That in my view prevents this movie and this script with its many great performances from elevating itself from a merely good movie to a great one.

I was a little uncomfortable with end of this movie as it seemed like a free endorsement of the Barack Obama administration. I think it accurately portrays the feelings of many blacks that at last someone would arrive in the White House who will finally make advancements for oppressed colored people in this country, and as such we get a sense of what they were feeling when Obama was elected.

But when it comes to historical facts, again, the Obama administration will be judged as severely lacking. Under the George W. Bush administration, African-American students have been suffering in inadequate schools in the Washington DC school district. Bush implemented a plan to offer vouchers for such students so they could get out of failing schools and attend private schools. This policy offered hope to many African-American students to finally get the better education that they deserved, but predictably, Bush doesn’t get any credit for this. In fact, the Obama administration’s first action does not uphold this program. Rather, the nation’s first black president reverses this progress and closes the program down, committing future students in those same schools to be forever trapped in schools that under-serve them.

Today you can’t visit the Martin Luther King Jr. monument in Washington D.C. The park police have barricaded this open air memorial because of the government shut-down, under the orders of the nation’s first black president.

Overall I give this movie three and a half out of five stars. It is enjoyable and educational in the treatment of the feelings surrounding the black experience here in America during the Civil Rights era. It’s lack of historical realism leaves something to be desired. Cuba Gooding Jr’s performance shows his capacity as an actor even in a supporting role and we could have seen much more of him in this film.

If We Can't Have Chris Christie, Let's Try Frankenstein

Let’s be honest, most people who plan to vote Republican in 2012  are not satisfied with the current field.  Two of the most recent examples are the rise and plummet of Rick Perry and the near comical begging of Chris Christie to get into the race.  Although… he did seem to take a curious tack for a man who wasn’t running…  But I digress.

Republicans are looking for a hero.  Heck, they might even be looking for a sandwich.  A lot of polls make it seem like President Obama would lose if he went up against a ham sandwich, but when you put him up against any one of these contenders who are actually running, he usually comes out ahead.

So what are conservatives to do?  Since it looks like Rick Perry’s plan to make offspring from Newt Gingrich and Herman Cain has little chance of happening, maybe they’ll have to see if they can clone some sort of monster together from various parts of the current contenders (and possibly some people who aren’t running too).

Let’s see what we can come up with….

1.  Chris Christie’s ability to control the media.  Remember when it looked like Sarah Palin couldn’t adequately tell Katie Couric what kind of magazines she read?  Yeah… Chris Christie won’t have that problem.

2.  Herman Cain’s relatability.  Whether he’s cracking jokes in a debate or telling you about his battle with cancer, Herman Cain is a man that many Americans can relate with.  (minus the incredibly non-PC stuff… and then again, there are people who relate to that too)

3.  Steve Jobs’ “Reality Distortion Field”.  Steve Jobs has a reputation for being able to distort reality to such an extent, he can tell you that your laptop doesn’t need a DVD drive, and you’ll believe him.  In a way, our current president has this ability too.  Remember when Barack Obama said you can keep your doctor if you want to?  Or how about “unemployment won’t go over 8%”.  When you’re a politician, few things are more valuable than being able to make things up and get away with it.

4.  Sarah Palin’s seemingly airtight background.  A guy moved into the house next door to Sarah Palin, and the best he could come up with is that she might have slept with Glen Rice in college.  He’s not the first “journalist” that’s wasted their money on a goose hunt to make Palin look bad.  Remember the emails?  Media outlets killed about 20 trees printing those emails up, and it looks like they found nothing.  I wonder what Obama’s emails look like?  Think Solyndra.  But, again, I digress…

5.  John Huntsman’s resilience.  He has all but had his podium toilet papered by audience members at debates, and he keeps showing up.  No matter how many times he’s been defiled on Twitter (does that word fit in this context, because it seems like it could) or how much Fox News tries to neglect him, John Huntsman walks around with all of the swagger of a top tier candidate.  (something Rick Santorum could learn from)

6.  John Stewart’s ability to get more credit than he deserves.  Again, this is something that Barack Obama already exhibits, but you cannot deny how invaluable it is to receive awards and accolades that you may or may not deserve.  (think emmys, nobel prizes)  And having the entire weight of American media telling everybody that you’re great doesn’t hurt either.

7.  Bill Clinton’s teflon coating.  If all else fails, and a candidate is really backed into a corner, it helps to be able to get off the hook by debating what the definition of “is” is.  Also go back to number two; the electorate will often overlook your flaws, if they think you can “feel their pain”.

8.  Dwight Eisenhower’s vision.  One of my favorite stories of all time is how we ended up with the great system of highways we have in this country today.  Eisenhower often spoke of his admiration for Germany’s system of roads compared to ours. (he even gave credit to them for making it easier to take Germany in WWII)  Once he became president, he made sure that the United States got their own system of roads that made it easier to travel throughout the country.  An interesting side note is that mass transportation hippies were against him, but Ike prevailed, and for that I thank him.

9.  Elton John’s mojo.  Elton John is like the honey badger of pop culture; he just doesn’t give a… well, he just doesn’t care what others think.  He knows how to party, he can laugh at himself, and somehow, he can be “proper” enough to do everything from singing at Princess Di’s funeral to singing at Rush Limbaugh’s wedding.  Add that to the fact that he’s been relevant for nearly 40 years, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a man who has more mojo.  Also… he sang the hit song from The Lion King.  The man has range.

10. Ronald Reagan’s worldview.  There is audio as far back as the 1940′s demonstrating that Ronald Reagan saw the world for what it is.  He was often able to identify what the problems of the day really were (versus what spin doctors said they were), and he was keenly aware of how to solve them too.  If we had leadership like that today, we could see “morning in America” once again.

If we can’t get Newt and Cain to make babies and we’re open minded to the idea of cloning, this list just might be all the ingredients necessary for a perfect candidate.  What do you think the Republicans need to win?  Who should (or should not) have been on this list?  Let us know on Facebook, Twitter, or in the comments below.  We’d love to hear from you.

Liberalism and Child Play

Spend and Trim D-BombI’m seeing a certain attitude from the left that I usually see in children. I’m talking actions that could be summed up in childhood hit phrases such as “I know you are but what am I”, “It wasn’t me”, and our dear leader’s favorite, “Lalalalala I’m not listening. Lalalalala.”

Thing is, when any grown adult acts this way (especially if they’re a liberal) it’s very difficult to argue with them in any rational way. You can see the difference in the speeches that our respective party leaders have been giving.

Exhibit A:

The President is a great orator to be sure, but behind the teleprompter laced façade of intelligence lays the truth; Obama is a whiny man-child, and not just a whiny man-child, but the kind of whiny man-child that points at his older brother while standing amongst the mess he created and proclaiming “he did it!”

For one, while the budget crisis is looming on us like it’s the “Debt Star” coming to blow up our fancy little civilization, the Republican congress has sent out its best fighters and came up with a bill called Cut, Cap, and Balance to stop and eventually destroy it. This did not please our whiner in chief, since he could not put his name on such a bill that went against the very fiber of his darker political leanings, and you don’t know the power of the dark side. Sorry, I’ll stop the space movie references here.

Boehner talks about it here:

Simply put, the bill would put a lid on government spending, cut the unnecessary fat off our budget, and allow an amendment to be added to the Constitution that essentially forbids the government from spending more money than it has, or takes in. It’s pretty straight forward and simplistic, but it got a veto before it even hit the President’s desk. The defense of the action is the video you see above.

As you can see, in the video, Obama flat our rejects it because…well, short answer: He doesn’t like it. It’s not left enough for one. It was made by a bunch of Republicans after all, namely his chief political rival, Boehner. Where CC&B wanted to cut spending and trim fat, Obama wanted to raise taxes and keep on truckin’ with what he calls a more “…balanced approach”.

“The first approach says, let’s live within our means by making serious, historic cuts in government spending.  Let’s cut domestic spending to the lowest level it’s been since Dwight Eisenhower was President.  Let’s cut defense spending at the Pentagon by hundreds of billions of dollars.  Let’s cut out the waste and fraud in health care programs like Medicare – and at the same time, let’s make modest adjustments so that Medicare is still there for future generations.  Finally, let’s ask the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations to give up some of their tax breaks and special deductions.”

Like that song? It’s become one of his biggest hits behind “It’s Bush’s Fault”.

That approach of his might sound soothing but when you break it down, it’s another left leaning, liberal progressive idea. Take from the rich and give to the government. Weaken the military, and strengthen our social programs. You know how the tune goes.

After that he points his finger at the Republicans and claims they are merely “…kicking the can further down the road.” he lashes out with a dire warning about how the right does things.

“Based on what we’ve seen these past few weeks, we know what to expect six months from now.  The House will once again refuse to prevent default unless the rest of us accept their cuts-only approach.  Again, they will refuse to ask the wealthiest Americans to give up their tax cuts or deductions.  Again, they will demand harsh cuts to programs like Medicare.  And once again, the economy will be held captive unless they get their way.”

…and they’ll kick puppies.

This is projection in the worst form. Members of congress have thrown budget plans at the President multiple times, but each time they are shrugged off and the members who created it are chided and called names. We called this “bullying” when I was a kid.  We keep coming up with the ideas, they keep rejecting them. We provide facts and figures, they provide ideology and new tax hikes.

The only people holding the economy captive are the ones that currently hold the gun, and Obama’s not pulling any triggers. Not at least until he knows that pulling it will make him look real good in the next election, and that means as little Republican, or as much Democrat involvement as possible.

As we approach the climax of this crisis it’s important to note that the bipartisanry of either side is more or less non-existent but each has a different idea in mind when they go that route. Republicans have to stand firm on what they know is a good idea, while the left has to stand firm on what they know is their ideology. They’ll always think the rich must pay and the “have nots” should get what they didn’t earn because it’s only fair.

Well forget that! We can’t allow the left to weasel in anything that really will kick the can down the road, because in the end, if we just hike taxes and continue spending what’s the point of passing any debt budget? They want more of your money or you can’t continue living prosperously as American’s have for generations, and don’t try to come up with anything contrary to the leftist agenda or you’ll be shot down, called names, and made a fool of.

Shorter: Give us your lunch money, or you’ll be sorry.

In Praise of Free Enterprise

My life was turned upside-down on the morning of February 12, 2011. The previous evening my wife and I went through a city that is blessed with the presence of a Der Weinerschnitzel. I have worshipped many times at the altar of this wonderful hotdog emporium featuring my all-time favorite chili cheese dogs and Polish sandwiches. I partook of both of these gastronomical delights along with a root beer and fries. The combo is one of the food industry’s greatest inventions. Life was good.

The next morning, February 12th, a day which will live in infamy in my home, I got a telephone call from the nurse at Dr. Sneezenblow’s office. She told me that Dr. Sneezenblow needed to meet with me immediately to discuss the results of my recent blood tests. Ten minutes later I was in his office with visions of Prostate Cancer swimming through my head. I knew a whole battery of blood tests had been ordered as a part of my annual physical but the only one I could remember was the Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test – the test that would indicate the presence of Prostate Cancer. I was terrified.

I wasn’t left in suspense for long. The good news was that I didn’t have Prostate Cancer. The bad news was that I had Type 2 Diabetes. My first thought, after recovering from the shock of Dr. Sneezenblow’s announcement, was that chili cheese dogs and Polish sandwiches were things of the past. I was in mourning. The nurse interrupted my sorrow by pricking my finger with a lancet and then testing the blood sugar level in my heretofore hotdog infused carcass. Just to give you some perspective – 70 to 130 is considered to be normal. Anything over 200 is considered to place a person in the diabetic range. I registered in at a cool 494. The blood testing meter maxed out at 500. I almost blew the lid off that little electronic wonder! At that point I knew root beer and fries were also gone from my gastronomical routine. Life was definitely not good!

Now you might think that this article is all about some guy (that would be me) moaning about being victimized by his defective pancreas gland. Nope! I refuse to play the role of the victim. Catch the Eagles’ song about victimhood right here. It is a wonderful expose of the entire liberal woe-is-me victimhood mindset. Instead, this article is a celebration of the wonders of American capitalism, the free-market, and Yankee innovation that is the wonder of the world.

The good doctor laid down the law concerning my diet from that point forward. I immediately resigned myself to an endless round of green beans and water chestnuts. Then I got on the Internet and, armed with my new dietary restrictions, began researching how to cope with eating in the world of Type 2 Diabetes. It didn’t take long to discover that private enterprise, long derided by Obama and his ilk, has developed some amazing foods, devices, and technologies to allow their customers to successfully deal with both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. The rest of this article is about some of these companies and the innovative ways they have addressed market needs within the free enterprise.

Dreamfields Foods is a manufacturer of pasta. Normally, diabetics would be expected to eliminate all forms of pasta from their diets. Traditional pastas score a 38 on the Glycemic Index. Traditional pastas also contain 41 grams of carbohydrates per serving. Any diabetic can tell you that watching and regulating carbohydrates is just as important, if not more so, than watching calories, sugar, or fats. But Dreamfields Foods, through a shining example of Yankee ingenuity, has created pasta that boasts an incredible score of only 13 on the Glycemic Index. And yes, their pasta still contains 41 grams of carbohydrates per serving, but only 5 grams of those carbohydrates get digested! The rest passes harmlessly through the body. Carbohydrates are just a form of sugar and when they are digested the blood glucose level spikes upward. Sugar spikes are what diabetics attempt to avoid. A good rule of thumb is that diabetics try to keep those sugar spikes below 180. With pasta that measures in at a very low 13 on the Glycemic Index and only 5 grams per serving of digestible carbohydrates, Dreamfields Foods has made it possible for diabetics to once again enjoy pasta. And that is a huge deal if you have diabetes. Dreamfields Foods saw a market need and filled that need through an innovative approach – exactly what the free enterprise system is designed to do. Imagine the possibility of a massive governmental bureaucracy inventing something as innovative as what Dreamfields Foods did. Right, it would never happen. In the world of the socialists some anonymous bureaucrats would devise a series of five year plans for the economy. And minus the economic stimulus of taking risks and potentially reaping rewards, there would be no incentive for industry to look for solutions in the pasta market.

Pasta without sauce is a non-starter and Walden Farms has solved that problem with another shining example of meeting a market need through innovation. What do the following foods all have in common?

  • Alfredo Sauce
  • Tomato & Basil Sauce
  • Garlic & Herb Sauce
  • Strawberry Spread
  • Raspberry Spread
  • Blueberry Spread
  • Apricot Fruit Spread
  • Apple Butter
  • Grape Spread
  • Orange Spread
  • Blue Cheese Dip
  • Ranch Dip
  • French Onion Dip
  • Bacon Dip
  • Chocolate Syrup
  • Blueberry Syrup
  • Caramel Syrup
  • Strawberry Syrup
  • Pancake Syrup
  • BBQ Sauce (Original, Honey, Thick ‘N Spicy, and Hickory Smoked)
  • Seafood Sauce
  • Ketchup
  • Chocolate Dip
  • Caramel Dip
  • Marshmallow Dip
  • Whipped Peanut Spread
  • Chipotle Ranch Dressing
  • Sesame Ginger Dressing
  • Thousand Island Dressing
  • Buttermilk Ranch Dressing
  • Raspberry Vinaigrette
  • Blue Cheese Dressing
  • Caesar Dressing
  • Honey Dijon
  • French Dressing
  • Creamy Bacon Dressing
  • Balsamic Viniagrette
  • Bacon Ranch Dressing
  • Italian Dressing
  • Asian Dressing
  • Italian Sun Dried Tomato Dressing
  • Zesty Italian Dressing
  • Russian Dressing
  • Creamy Italian Dressing
  • Jersey Sweet Onion Dressing
  • Coleslaw Dressing

Quite the list isn’t it? Okay, here’s the answer to the question. You can purchase any of those items from Walden Farms and each of those foods has zero sugar, zero gluten, zero carbs, zero fat, and zero calories. That’s right – totally guilt free! Imagine what Walden Farms has done for the diabetics of America! All of those foods had been taboo for diabetics until Walden Farms came along. Once again private enterprise recognized a market need and delivered magnificently within the free market system. You can rest assured that the Department of Agriculture, within a Big Government/Centrally Planned economy never would have developed this solution. Once again, free enterprise comes to the rescue. Thank you, Walden Farms!

Now what good is Whipped Peanut Spread if you don’t have bread to spread it on? Regular white bread is taboo for diabetics. Eating white flour is like injecting sugar straight into your veins. White flour bread has a Glycemic Index Value of 71. Anything above 70 is considered to be a High GI food. A score of 100 is the high end of the scale. Even whole wheat and multi-grain breads have to be treated with caution by diabetics. It is not just the flour. Manufacturers put sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, maltodextrin, honey, and assorted other bad ingredients for diabetics in their breads. So what kind of bread can a diabetic eat? Julian Bakery recognized this market need and came to the rescue. Julian Bakery offers a wide variety of breads for customers requiring special diets: gluten-free, high fiber, high protein, low calorie, low carbohydrate, wheat-free, and sprouted breads. Their products are carried nationwide by various retailers or you can buy their products online. Yet again the free market solved a problem! Julian Bakery saw a market need and came up with innovative products to fill that need.

When was the last time you saw Obama fix a problem? – Didn’t think so. Obama’s approach is to create a problem and then offer socialism as the fix to the problem that he created! To Obama and other socialists/communists the ONLY solution is government. Cradle to grave is their mantra.  What the vast unwashed masses of liberals with their hands out begging for their share of Obama’s Stash haven’t figured out is that by depending upon the government for their physical security that they have relinquished their freedom and liberty.

Obama and his socialist administration do not possess an understanding of the proper role of government. They seek to control people instead of liberating them. As John Locke said many years ago:

The end of law is not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom. For in all the states of created beings, capable of laws, where there is no law there is no freedom. For liberty is to be free from restraint and violence from others, which cannot be where there is no law; and is not, as we are told, ‘a liberty for every man to do what he lists.’ For who could be free, when every other man’s humour might domineer over him? But a liberty to dispose and order freely as he lists his person, actions, possessions, and his whole property within the allowance of those laws under which he is, and therein not to be subject to the arbitrary will of another, but freely follow his own. (Two Treatises of Civil Government, II, 57: P.P.N.S., p.101)

In 1959 President Dwight D. Eisenhower asked his Secretary of Agriculture, Ezra Taft Benson, to have a conversation with Nikita Khrushchev on the subject of agriculture. The conversation, later recounted by Benson, took a sharp turn away from agriculture and veered right into the essence of liberty versus totalitarianism:

“Your children will live under communism.” Khrushchev said.

“On the contrary,” Secretary Benson replied, “My grandchildren will live in freedom as I hope that all people will.”

Khrushchev then retorted: “You Americans are so gullible. No, you won’t accept Communism outright; but we’ll keep feeding you small doses of Socialism until you will finally wake up and find that you already have Communism. We won’t have to fight you; we’ll so weaken your economy, until you fall like overripe fruit into our hands.”

That is what Obama is doing. He is feeding us doses of socialism, knowing that one day we will wake up and find that we live in a communistic society. Note that Khrushchev pointed out how socialism will weaken our economy. That is the great danger to free enterprises like Dreamfields Foods, Julian Bakery, and Walden Farms. Socialism’s goal is to rid society of free enterprise. Socialism is merely a stepping stone to communism. And communism means no private enterprise. Communism’s goal is to exert total control over every aspect of our lives. Benson had an exact opposite view to Khrushchev’s concerning free enterprise:

Under our system there has been released great creative capacity, because we have been free, unrestricted. What have we achieved? A standard of living unequalled anywhere in the world. Not because we are smarter, not because we are more brilliant, not because we have greater capacity than people of other nations, but because we have had a system which is superior—a system which was wisely provided by the Founding Fathers. We must protect and safeguard that system. Sometimes we find people who almost apologize for it—the free enterprise system. Of course it is not perfect; it is operated by human beings, but it is the best system in operation in this world today. If we are wise, we will preserve it, we will strengthen it and we will safeguard it for our children and our children’s children.

Benson is not alone in his view of the vital nature of the free enterprise system. Here are some thoughts on this subject by other notable people:

Free enterprise has done more to reduce poverty than all the government programs dreamed up by Democrats – Ronald Wilson Reagan

And from another former president:

The government can supply no substitute for enterprise. – Calvin Coolidge

Yet another quote from Coolidge:

The wise and correct course to follow in taxation and all other economic legislation is not to destroy those who have already secured success but to create conditions under which every one will have a better chance to be successful.

Abraham Lincoln also spoke about free enterprise:

The strongest bond of human sympathy outside the family relation should be one uniting all working people of all nations and tongues and kindreds. Nor should this lead us to a war on property, or the owners of property. Property is the fruit of labor; property is desirable; is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich shows that others may become rich, and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise. – Abraham Lincoln

Walter E. Williams pointed out the despotic thinking process of tyrants:

People who denounce the free market and voluntary exchange, and are for control and coercion, believe they have more intelligence and superior wisdom to the masses. What’s more, they believe they’ve been ordained to forcibly impose that wisdom on the rest of us. Of course, they have what they consider good reasons for doing so, but every tyrant that has ever existed has had what he believed were good reasons for restricting the liberty of others. – Walter E. Williams

The prominent economist Milton Friedman also chimed in on the subject of free enterprise:

The argument for collectivism, for government doing something, is simple. Anybody can understand it. ‘If there’s something wrong, pass a law. If somebody is in trouble, get Mr. X to help them out.’ The argument for voluntary cooperation, for a free market, is not nearly so simple. It says, ‘You know, if you allow people to cooperate voluntarily and don’t interfere with them, indirectly, through the operation of the market, they will improve matters more than you can improve it directly by appointing somebody.’ That’s a subtle argument, and it’s hard for people to understand. Moreover, people think that when you argue that way you’re arguing for selfishness, for greed. That’s utter nonsense.

Lew Rockwell made this inspired statement:

The larger the government, the more our livings standards are reduced. We are fortunate as a civilization that the progress of free enterprise generally outpaces the regress of government growth, for, if that were not the case, we would be poorer each year — not just in relative terms, but absolutely poorer too. The market is smart and the government is dumb, and to these attributes do we owe the whole of our economic well-being.

Ayn Rand tells us what happens when the socialists/communists win:

When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion – when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing – when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors – when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you – when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice – you may know that your society is doomed.

P.J. O’Rourke said it even more succinctly than Rand:

When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators.

On the subject of government bailouts Henry Hazlitt said this:

It is just as essential for the health of a dynamic economy that dying industries should be allowed to die as that growing industries should be allowed to grow. For the dying industries absorb labor and capital that should be released for the growing industries. It is only the much vilified price system that solves the enormously complicated problem of deciding precisely how much of tens of thousands of different commodities and services should be produced in relation to each other. These otherwise bewildering equations are solved quasi-automatically by the system of prices, profits and costs. They are solved by this system incomparably better than any group of bureaucrats could solve them. For they are solved by a system under which each consumer makes his own demand and casts a fresh vote, or a dozen fresh votes, every day; whereas bureaucrats would try to solve it by having made for the consumers, not what the consumers themselves wanted, but what the bureaucrats decided was good for them.

And finally, Walter Lippman ends our lesson thusly:

In a free society the state does not administer the affairs of men. It administers justice among men who conduct their own affairs.

The free enterprise system is closely tied to the principle of individual liberty. That is why we must do everything in our power to preserve it. That is why Obama must lose the 2012 election. That is why conservatives must take the Senate from the Democrats. That is why there must be a massive conservative uprising the likes of which has never before been seen. We are in a literal war for our freedoms and the freedom of our children and grandchildren.

I have a dream that one day the perverse philosophy of communism will be rooted out of our national consciousness.

I have a dream that one day government will shrink to the minimum size necessary to fulfill its constitutional mandates.

I have a dream that our children and their children will be freed from the mountain of debt thrust upon their shoulders by Obama and his like-minded minions.

I have a dream that the patriots of this nation will rise up and save free enterprise from the very brink of destruction and that the principle of working for what we get will reign supreme in our economy.

I have a dream that government handouts will cease for the lazy and that people, through their own good works, will voluntarily provide for the needs of the truly destitute among us – lifting both themselves and the needy with their generosity.

I have a dream that the philosophy of equal outcomes will be replaced with the philosophy of equal opportunity. May people choose for themselves what they will make of their lives and reap the rewards of their own hard labor.

I have a dream that we will elect a righteous president who will preside over us in full devotion to the Constitution of the United States.

I have a dream that the communists will be eradicated from the United States Congress through the power of an enlightened electorate exercising their rights at the ballot box without fear of intimidation.

I have a dream that the United States of America will fulfill its destiny as the world’s beacon of liberty and through its shining example lift all nations, all peoples, and all societies.

I close with the words of a hymn familiar to all citizens of these United States. It is a poetic prayer of supplication for the preservation of our precious liberties.

Our fathers’ God, to thee,
Author of liberty,
To thee we sing;
Long may our land be bright
With freedom’s holy light.
Protect us by thy might,
Great God, our King!

Is Obama Evil? A commentary on Obama, Communism, and our Fight for Freedom

obama and communismI have written previously on the theme that Barack Hussein Obama, aka Barry Soetero, might be insane. It is a worthy topic, and deserves more play in journalistic circles than it is receiving. But after yesterday’s astonishing performance by Obama during a radio interview on Univision, there is another possibility that must also be explored. The question? –  Is Obama evil? That’s right, the big “E”. It isn’t an either/or situation. There is nothing preventing Obama from being both insane and evil. But let’s concentrate on the evil meme here. Like the insanity question, Obama’s state of morality deserves equal attention.

Returning to Obama’s radio performance, here’s the most relevant quotes:

“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s gonna be harder and that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2.” – Barack Obama

And as if that isn’t enough, here is a follow-up, in which Obama gives his opinion about Republicans such as Senator John McCain who support effective border security and strong immigration law enforcement.

“Those aren’t the kinds of folks who represent our core American values.” – Barack Obama

We are witnessing a President of the United States literally declaring war on some of its citizens! Obama has just declared that Republicans are his enemy. He is inciting violence towards conservatives. He is demanding that Latinos be his enforcers against his sworn “enemies.” Obama, in essence is openly advocating racial warfare in The United States of America. He is making racist statements, imploring the Latinos to rise up and punish his “enemies”. That’s just great – a Nobel Peace Prize winner stumping for the punishment of his “enemies”. The man, who ran as a post-partisan uniter, has become the most divisive president in the history of this country.

Furthermore, Obama draws the lines of division quite clearly for us. Those American citizens who do not support his policies “aren’t the kinds of folks who represent our core American values.” And just what ARE your core American values, Mister President? Would you care to elaborate?

Let’s take a guess. Obama’s core values constitute the following:

  • Destroy America’s ability to defend itself
  • Bankrupt America
  • Enrich himself and his cronies
  • Tear down border defenses and allow unbridled trespassing upon United States soil
  • Control the actions of American citizens via the rationing and withholding of medical care
  • Impose complete governmental control over the manufacturing sector of the economy
  • Impose complete governmental control over the financial industry
  • Impose complete governmental control over the press, wiping out Fox News and any other news organization that dares to broadcast or print opinions that oppose Obama’s agenda
  • Declare war upon American patriots
  • Indoctrinate children in Marxism
  • Apologize to the world for any and all instances of American exceptionalism
  • Destroy all carbon-based energy production companies
  • Impose control over every aspect of citizens’ lives
  • Incite class warfare
  • Incite racial warfare
  • Impose redistribution of wealth on a massive scale
  • Remove God from the lives of all Americans and replace the worship of God with the worship of the state and Obama
  • Create a system of central command and control over the economy through appointed Czars, bypassing the authority of the United States Congress
  • Make the courts of the land subservient to the will of Obama. Appoint stooges as judges so that all court decisions will follow communist doctrine
  • Dictate what types of food people may eat
  • Force students to obtain their school funding through the government by eliminating the right of private financial institutions to offer student loans
  • Make illegal the selling of incandescent lightbulbs
  • Destroy the private sector of the economy – all jobs must come via government
  • Mandate the killing of unborn babies through taxpayer funded abortions
  • Make Americans slaves to communism

Furthermore, Obama then lies about each and every policy position – Then acts like a buffoon, grins, and denies that he is a socialist. Ladies and Gentlemen, we are living through the most dangerous period of American history. There is a would-be dictator attempting to forcibly impose his will upon us.

This is no longer a fight between conservatism and liberalism. This is a fight between good and evil. Obama even attempts to redefine what is good and what is evil. You’re right, Obama, we don’t share your values. No righteous person ever would. Even the Bible, (you remember the Bible, don’t you, Mister self-professed Christian?) foretold the day of Obama:

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! – Isaiah 5: 20.

It is a small step from Obama’s current rhetoric to genocide. Hitler did it just like Obama is leading up to  it now. Obama is now calling for the destruction of his enemies – and he wants the Latinos to do it. Hitler called for the destruction of the Jews – and he wanted the S.S. to do it. We have arrived at a time in our nation’s history when a violent gang has infiltrated our government, our schools and universities, our think-tanks, our law enforcement agencies, our workplaces, our military, and every other aspect of our society. And Obama is leading the charge.

Pogrom

During the deportation of survivors of a pogrom in Iasi to Calarasi or Podul Iloaei, Romanians halt a train to throw off the bodies of those who had died on the way. Romania, July 1941.

The Jews have a word for what Obama is now alluding to. The word is Pogrom. Look it up. Study it. You will find it instructive. Pogroms, essentially, are the systematic cleansings of populations, with the atrocities aimed at selected groups of people. It is selective genocide. The Jews in Russia suffered pogroms. The Jews in Europe suffered another pogrom at the hands of the Nazis. The Armenians were victims of a pogrom as well. The Holocaust was one giant pogrom. And now Obama is alluding to exactly that – a pogrom.

Obama’s rhetoric has become ever more inflammatory the closer we have come to November 2, 2010. He feels his power slipping away and he is striking out like a petulant child who has been denied the biggest cookie on the plate. What was a slick, controlled, and contrived message during Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, has descended into gutter talk of retribution against his political “enemies.” Obama isn’t talking about the issues anymore. Obama is talking about eliminating his “enemies.”

Ezra Taft Benson

Ezra Taft Benson

Ezra Taft Benson, who served as Secretary of Agriculture in the Eisenhower administration, warned us of the dangers of the secret combination that had infiltrated our society. Benson was mocked and scorned for his words. He was considered a lunatic by many of his critics. But, considering the unfettered dismantling of our freedoms and the destruction of our society by the Democrats during the past two years, more and more people are seeing the Democrats in general and Obama in particular for exactly what they are – a communist gang.

Here is Benson’s warning, published in November, 1979. See the complete talk here. And here are some excerpts, below:

It is well to ask, what system established secret works of darkness to overthrow nations by violent revolution? Who blasphemously proclaimed the atheistic doctrine that God made us not? Satan works through human agents. We need only look to some of the ignoble characters in human history who were contemporary to the restoration of the gospel to discover fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy. I refer to the infamous founders of Communism and others who follow in their tradition.

Communism introduced into the world a substitute for true religion. It is a counterfeit of the gospel plan. The false prophets of Communism predict a utopian society. This, they proclaim, will only be brought about as capitalism and free enterprise are overthrown, private property abolished, the family as a social unit eliminated, all classes abolished, all governments overthrown, and a communal ownership of property in a classless, stateless society established.  – Ezra Taft Benson

Having established that Communism in all its forms, and under all the code names it goes by, which we now see include progressive, liberal, Democrat, socialist, and environmentalist, etc., Benson declared that the prophets of communism were among us, promising Utopia in exchange for our freedom. Is this not what we see permeating our society now? Have the communists in America not created a welfare state? Does not Obama seek to expand  it?

Next, Benson goes on to explain the nature of the battle.

Today, we are in a battle for the bodies and souls of man. It is a battle between two opposing systems: freedom and slavery, Christ and anti-Christ. The struggle is more momentous than a decade ago, yet today the conventional wisdom says, “You must learn to live with Communism and to give up your ideas about national sovereignty.” Tell that to the millions—yes, the scores of millions—who have met death or imprisonment under the tyranny of Communism! Such would be the death knell of freedom and all we hold dear. God must ever have a free people to prosper His work and bring about Zion.

I am a witness to nations and people deprived of their freedom. I was there. I watched that great Iron Curtain drop around nations which formerly had prized their freedom—good people. I was aghast as these were written off by the stroke of a pen. I saw Poland abandoned by nations with a heritage of freedom—the United States and Great Britain.

I was in Warsaw in June of 1946. I shared a room with seven other men in the Polonia Hotel, the only hotel even partially intact in the great city of Warsaw. Our ambassador, Bliss Lane, had his office in part of the building. He was so saddened that he resigned and wrote the book I Saw Poland Betrayed, which detailed the failure of the United States and England to keep their promise that the Poles would have a free election after the war.

I saw firsthand our great nation stand by at the time of the Hungarian revolution—when “freedom fighters” with bare hands and stones resisted bullets, tanks, and artillery. I confess I was ashamed at the response of my country—a nation which I believe the Lord intended to be an ensign of freedom to all others. Freedom did not die that day (23 October 1956) for Hungary alone. Hope died for many in other captive nations and has only recently been somewhat revived by courageous men willing to speak against oppression.

Since that day, I have seen the Soviet Union, under its godless leaders, spread its ideology throughout the world. Every stratagem is used—trade, war, revolution, violence, hate, detente, and immorality—to accomplish its purposes. Many nations are now under its oppressive control. Over one billion people—one-fourth of the population of the world—have now lost their freedom and are under Communist domination. We seem to forget that the great objective of Communism is still world domination and control, which means the surrender of our freedom—your freedom—our sovereignty. – Ezra Taft Benson

Benson, a high-ranking leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, included in his article the mention of a warning the First Presidency (the highest ranking level of leadership in his church) issued all the way back in July of 1936 regarding the goals of communism.

“Communism is not a political party nor a political plan under the Constitution; it is a system of government that is the opposite of our Constitutional government. …

“Since Communism, established, would destroy our American Constitutional government, to support Communism is treasonable to our free institutions, and no patriotic American citizen may become either a Communist or supporter of Communism. …

“We call upon all Church members completely to eschew [shun] Communism. The safety of our divinely inspired Constitutional government and the welfare of our Church imperatively demand that Communism shall have no place in America” (signed: Heber J. Grant, J. Reuben Clark, Jr., David O. McKay, The First Presidency, in Deseret News, 3 July 1936; italics added).

Marion G. Romney

Marion G. Romney

Benson, and his contemporaries recognized that the greatest danger of communism to America was that we, as Americans, had accommodated the infiltration of communists into our society. Americans have keenly noticed that Obama doesn’t seem to have a religion. Yes, he calls himself a Christian – but his rhetoric is decidedly unchristian. The only religion Obama truly seems to have is the worship of Obama. He is following precisely the communist model – he has replaced the worship of God with the worship of the state. And as head of the state, that means he worships himself. Another religious leader, Marion G. Romney, pointed out this fact in September of 1979:

“Communism is Satan’s counterfeit for the gospel plan, and … it is an avowed enemy of the God of the land. Communism is the greatest anti-Christ power in the world today and therefore the greatest menace not only to our peace but to our preservation as a free people. By the extent to which we tolerate it, accommodate ourselves to it, permit ourselves to be encircled by its tentacles and drawn to it, to that extent we forfeit the protection of the God of this land” – Marion G. Romney

Both Benson and Romney argued that the way for Americans to protect themselves from communism was to return to worshipping God with full fervor. Additionally, Benson laid out some other actions that could be taken:

We must not tolerate accommodation with or appeasement toward the false system of Communism. We must demand of our elected officials that we not only resist Communism, but that we will take every measure to prevent its intrusion into this hemisphere. It is vital that we invoke the Monroe Doctrine. – Ezra Taft Benson

Also,

We must study the inspired Constitution and become involved in the political process ourselves. – Ezra Taft Benson

I do not care if the political left declares me, like Ezra Taft Benson, to be a nut. I do not shrink from calling Obama a communist, for that is what he is. I refuse to stand idly by while Obama attempts to destroy my beloved America. America is the great bastion of freedom and liberty in a perilous world. If we give up America we lose the world. Obama knows that. That is why he and his fellow communists are so intent on taking complete and utter control over us. They know that if they conquer America then will control the world.

George Washington praying

George Washington praying

Now let me share something with you that you made find surprising. Our first president, George Washington, saw in vision, this day and age. He saw the threat that would come from our domestic enemies, such as Obama. He understood, through divine revelation, the war we must fight to retain our precious liberty from those, such as Obama, who would deprive us of our liberties.

Our nation was founded by spiritually-minded leaders, including Washington. At Valley Forge, in the winter of 1777, Washington received this vision of the future of The United States of America. This vision was reprinted in December of 1880 by The National Tribune, the U.S. war veterans’ newspaper. This vision was also reprinted on December 21, 1950 by The Stars and Stripes.

The Vision

Anthony Sherman was in Valley Forge and received the report of the vision first hand from George Washington. Sherman recalled: “You doubtless heard the story of Washington’s going to the thicket to pray in secret for aid and comfort from God, the interposition of whose Divine Providence brought us safely through the darkest days of tribulation.”

“One day, I remember it well, when the chilly winds whistled through the leafless trees, though the sky was cloudless and the sun shown brightly, he remained in his quarters nearly all the afternoon alone. When he came out, I noticed that his face was a shade paler than usual. There seemed to be something on his mind of more than ordinary importance. Returning just after dusk, he dispatched an orderly to the quarters who was presently in attendance. After a preliminary conversation of about an hour, Washington, gazing upon his companion with that strange look of dignity which he alone commanded, related the event that occurred that day.”

Washington Stated:

“This afternoon, as I was sitting at this table engaged in preparing a dispatch, something seemed to disturb me. Looking up, I beheld standing opposite me a singularly beautiful female. So astonished was I, for I had given strict orders not to be disturbed, that it was some moments before I found language to inquire the cause of her presence. A second, a third and even a fourth time did I repeat my question, but received no answer from my mysterious visitor except a slight raising of her eyes.

“By this time I felt strange sensations spreading through me. I would have risen but the riveted gaze of the being before me rendered volition impossible. I assayed once more to address her, but my tongue had become useless, as though it had become paralyzed.

“A new influence, mysterious, potent, irresistible, took possession of me. All I could do was to gaze steadily, vacantly at my unknown visitor. Gradually the surrounding atmosphere seemed as if it had become filled with sensations, and luminous. Everything about me seemed to rarefy, the mysterious visitor herself becoming more airy and yet more distinct to my sight than before. I now began to feel as one dying, or rather to experience the sensations which I have sometimes imagined accompany dissolution. I did not think, I did not reason, I did not move; all were alike impossible. I was only conscious of gazing fixedly, vacantly at my companion.

The First Peril – The Revolution

“Presently I heard a voice saying, ‘Son of the Republic, look and learn,’ while at the same time my visitor extended her arm eastwardly, I now beheld a heavy white vapor at some distance rising fold upon fold. This gradually dissipated, and I looked upon a stranger scene. Before me lay spread out in one vast plain all the countries of the world – Europe, Asia, Africa and America. I saw rolling and tossing between Europe and America the billows of the Atlantic, and between Asia and America lay the Pacific.

‘Son of the Republic,’ said the same mysterious voice as before, `look and learn.’ At that moment I beheld a dark, shadowy being, like an angel, standing or rather floating in mid-air, between Europe and America. Dipping water out of the ocean in the hollow of each hand, he sprinkled some upon America with his right hand, while with his left hand he cast some on Europe. Immediately a cloud raised from these countries, and joined in mid-ocean. For a while it remained stationary, and then moved slowly westward, until it enveloped America in its murky folds. Sharp flashes of lightning gleamed through it at intervals, and I heard the smothered groans and cries of the American people.

The Second Perl – The Civil War

“A second time the angel dipped water from the ocean, and sprinkled it out as before. The dark cloud was then drawn back to the ocean, in whose heaving billows in sank from view. A third time I heard the mysterious voice saying, `Son of the Republic, look and learn,’ I cast my eyes upon America and beheld villages and towns and cities springing up one after another until the whole land from the Atlantic to the Pacific was dotted with them.

“Again, I heard the mysterious voice say, `Son of the Republic, the end of the century cometh, look and learn.’ At this the dark shadowy angel turned his face southward, and from Africa I saw an ill omened specter approach our land. It flitted slowly over every town and city of the latter. The inhabitants presently set themselves in battle array against each other. As I continued looking I saw a bright angel, on whose brow rested a crown of light, on which was traced the word `Union,’ bearing the American flag which he placed between the divided nation, and said, `Remember ye are brethren.’ Instantly, the inhabitants, casting from them their weapons became friends once more, and united around the National Standard.

The Third Peril – America’s Judgment?

“And again I heard the mysterious voice saying `Son of the Republic, look and learn.’ At this the dark, shadowy angel placed a trumpet to his mouth, and blew three distinct blasts; and taking water from the ocean, he sprinkled it upon Europe, Asia and Africa. Then my eyes beheld a fearful scene: From each of these countries arose thick, black clouds that were soon joined into one. Throughout this mass there gleamed a dark red light by which I saw hordes of armed men, who, moving with the cloud, marched by land and sailed by sea to America. Our country was enveloped in this volume of cloud, and I saw these vast armies devastate the whole county and burn the villages, towns and cities that I beheld springing up. As my ears listened to the thundering of the cannon, clashing of sword, and the shouts and cries of millions in mortal combat, I heard again the mysterious voice saying, `Son of the Republic, look and learn.’ When the voice had ceased, the dark shadowy angel placed his trumpet once more to his mouth, and blew a long and fearful blast.

“Instantly a light as of a thousand suns shone down from above me, and pierced and broke into fragments the dark cloud which enveloped America. At the same moment the angel upon whose head still shone the word Union, and who bore our national flag in one hand and a sword in the other, descended from the heavens attended by legions of white spirits. These immediately joined the inhabitants of America, who I perceived were will nigh overcome, but who immediately taking courage again, closed up their broken ranks and renewed the battle.

“Again, amid the fearful noise of the conflict, I heard the mysterious voice saying, `Son of the Republic, look and learn.’ As the voice ceased, the shadowy angel for the last time dipped water from the ocean and sprinkled it upon America. Instantly the dark cloud rolled back, together with the armies it had brought, leaving the inhabitants of the land victorious!

“Then once more I beheld the villages, towns and cities springing up where I had seen them before, while the bright angel, planting the azure standard he had brought in the midst of them, cried with a loud voice: `While the stars remain, and the heavens send down dew upon the earth, so long shall the Union last.’ And taking from his brow the crown on which blazoned the word `Union,’ he placed it upon the Standard while the people, kneeling down, said, `Amen.’

“The scene instantly began to fade and dissolve, and I at last saw nothing but the rising, curling vapor I at first beheld. This also disappearing, I found myself once more gazing upon the mysterious visitor, who, in the same voice I had heard before, said, `Son of the Republic, what you have seen is thus interpreted: Three great perils will come upon the Republic. The most fearful is the third, but in this greatest conflict the whole world united shall not prevail against her. Let every child of the Republic learn to live for his God, his land and the Union’. With these words the vision vanished, and I started from my seat and felt that I had seen a vision wherein had been shown to me the birth, progress, and destiny of the United States.

Do not doubt for an instant that we are in the midst of a literal war with evil. Obama is currently leading the charge against us. Undoubtedly, there are others in the shadows, who guide him in this war against liberty, but we will likely never know much about them. That isn’t important now. What is important is that we, as a nation, take a stand against the evil arrayed against us. I have hope that America has finally woken up. The emergence of the Tea Party is evidence of that fact. The polls forecasting a conservative victory on November 2, 2010 are evidence to the power of this resurgence of conservatism and God-loving peoples of all faiths.  The midterm elections are just one more battle in the fight against evil. The midterms will represent an important victory in the war against evil – but it will not end that war.

Remain vigilant, America. Go to the polls in immense numbers and reclaim your freedom. Know that our day and our battles were prophesied by President George Washington, by Ezra Taft Benson, by Rush Limbaugh, by Sean Hannity, by Jim DeMint, and by countless others who perceive liberals, progressives, socialists, Democrats, and environmentalists for what they really are – communists.

The war is against communism. It always has been. It always will be. Obama is merely the latest leader of those who would enslave us. Rise up, America and take back that which has been stolen from you. The stakes are high. The dangers are even higher. But we will emerge triumphant, as George Washington saw in vision. America will survive. We will win this war against tyranny.

Get out and vote. Let nothing stop you from this sacred duty. We fight out battles at the ballot box. We fight our battles in the hearts and minds of men and women everywhere. We are not violent. Like Ghandi preached, we fight a bloodless war. The communists will bring bloodshed to this battle but we will not reciprocate. The highest of all victories are won peaceably.

Vote!

And Pray.

ClimateGate Exposed by Internationally Famous Physicist

Al Gore

Al Gore

Al Gore’s Global Warming scam just took a right hook in the chin – again. This time the blow comes from internationally renowned Dr. Harold Lewis, 87, Emeritus Professor of Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Lewis just submitted his resignation from the American Physical Society to Dr. Curtis G. Callan Jr. of Princeton University, who serves currently as the President of the American Physical Society.

Dr. Lewis skewers the Global Warming movement for what it is – a giant scam. Dr. Lewis’ comments, sent to Callan on October 8, 2010, so utterly destroy the Al Gores of the world that his words have become newsworthy throughout the world. Here is his resignation letter; in it’s entirely, with one particular paragraph highlighted in bold for your edification:

Dr. Curtis G. Callan Jr.

Dr. Curtis G. Callan Jr. - President, American Physical Society

Dear Curt:

When I first joined the American Physical Society sixty-seven years ago it was much smaller, much gentler, and as yet uncorrupted by the money flood (a threat against which Dwight Eisenhower warned a half-century ago). Indeed, the choice of physics as a profession was then a guarantor of a life of poverty and abstinence—it was World War II that changed all that. The prospect of worldly gain drove few physicists. As recently as thirty-five years ago, when I chaired the first APS study of a contentious social/scientific issue, The Reactor Safety Study, though there were zealots aplenty on the outside there was no hint of inordinate pressure on us as physicists.

We were therefore able to produce what I believe was and is an honest appraisal of the situation at that time. We were further enabled by the presence of an oversight committee consisting of Pief Panofsky, Vicki Weisskopf, and Hans Bethe, all towering physicists beyond reproach. I was proud of what we did in a charged atmosphere. In the end the oversight committee, in its report to the APS President, noted the complete independence in which we did the job, and predicted that the report would be attacked from both sides. What greater tribute could there be?

How different it is now. The giants no longer walk the earth, and the money flood has become the raison d’être of much physics research, the vital sustenance of much more, and it provides the support for untold numbers of professional jobs. For reasons that will soon become clear my former pride at being an APS Fellow all these years has been turned into shame, and I am forced, with no pleasure at all, to offer you my resignation from the Society.

It is of course, the global warming scam, with the (literally) trillions of dollars driving it, that has corrupted so many scientists, and has carried APS before it like a rogue wave. It is the greatest and most successful pseudoscientific fraud I have seen in my long life as a physicist. Anyone who has the faintest doubt that this is so should force himself to read the ClimateGate documents, which lay it bare. (Montford’s book organizes the facts very well.) I don’t believe that any real physicist, nay scientist, can read that stuff without revulsion. I would almost make that revulsion a definition of the word scientist.

So what has the APS, as an organization, done in the face of this challenge? It has accepted the corruption as the norm, and gone along with it. For example:

  1. About a year ago a few of us sent an e-mail on the subject to a fraction of the membership. APS ignored the issues, but the then President immediately launched a hostile investigation of where we got the e-mail addresses. In its better days, APS used to encourage discussion of important issues, and indeed the Constitution cites that as its principal purpose. No more. Everything that has been done in the last year has been designed to silence debate
  2. The appallingly tendentious APS statement on Climate Change was apparently written in a hurry by a few people over lunch, and is certainly not representative of the talents of APS members as I have long known them. So a few of us petitioned the Council to reconsider it. One of the outstanding marks of (in)distinction in the Statement was the poison word incontrovertible, which describes few items in physics, certainly not this one. In response APS appointed a secret committee that never met, never troubled to speak to any skeptics, yet endorsed the Statement in its entirety. (They did admit that the tone was a bit strong, but amazingly kept the poison word incontrovertible to describe the evidence, a position supported by no one.) In the end, the Council kept the original statement, word for word, but approved a far longer “explanatory” screed, admitting that there were uncertainties, but brushing them aside to give blanket approval to the original. The original Statement, which still stands as the APS position, also contains what I consider pompous and asinine advice to all world governments, as if the APS were master of the universe. It is not, and I am embarrassed that our leaders seem to think it is. This is not fun and games, these are serious matters involving vast fractions of our national substance, and the reputation of the Society as a scientific society is at stake.
  3. In the interim the ClimateGate scandal broke into the news, and the machinations of the principal alarmists were revealed to the world. It was a fraud on a scale I have never seen, and I lack the words to describe its enormity. Effect on the APS position: none. None at all. This is not science; other forces are at work.
  4. So a few of us tried to bring science into the act (that is, after all, the alleged and historic purpose of APS), and collected the necessary 200+ signatures to bring to the Council a proposal for a Topical Group on Climate Science, thinking that open discussion of the scientific issues, in the best tradition of physics, would be beneficial to all, and also a contribution to the nation. I might note that it was not easy to collect the signatures, since you denied us the use of the APS membership list. We conformed in every way with the requirements of the APS Constitution, and described in great detail what we had in mind—simply to bring the subject into the open.<
  5. To our amazement, Constitution be damned, you declined to accept our petition, but instead used your own control of the mailing list to run a poll on the members’ interest in a TG on Climate and the Environment. You did ask the members if they would sign a petition to form a TG on your yet-to-be-defined subject, but provided no petition, and got lots of affirmative responses. (If you had asked about sex you would have gotten more expressions of interest.) There was of course no such petition or proposal, and you have now dropped the Environment part, so the whole matter is moot. (Any lawyer will tell you that you cannot collect signatures on a vague petition, and then fill in whatever you like.) The entire purpose of this exercise was to avoid your constitutional responsibility to take our petition to the Council.
  6. As of now you have formed still another secret and stacked committee to organize your own TG, simply ignoring our lawful petition.

APS management has gamed the problem from the beginning, to suppress serious conversation about the merits of the climate change claims. Do you wonder that I have lost confidence in the organization?

I do feel the need to add one note, and this is conjecture, since it is always risky to discuss other people’s motives. This scheming at APS HQ is so bizarre that there cannot be a simple explanation for it. Some have held that the physicists of today are not as smart as they used to be, but I don’t think that is an issue. I think it is the money, exactly what Eisenhower warned about a half-century ago. There are indeed trillions of dollars involved, to say nothing of the fame and glory (and frequent trips to exotic islands) that go with being a member of the club. Your own Physics Department (of which you are chairman) would lose millions a year if the global warming bubble burst. When Penn State absolved Mike Mann of wrongdoing, and the University of East Anglia did the same for Phil Jones, they cannot have been unaware of the financial penalty for doing otherwise. As the old saying goes, you don’t have to be a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing. Since I am no philosopher, I’m not going to explore at just which point enlightened self-interest crosses the line into corruption, but a careful reading of the ClimateGate releases makes it clear that this is not an academic question.

I want no part of it, so please accept my resignation. APS no longer represents me, but I hope we are still friends.

Hal

Anthony Watts, a career meteorologist and President of IntelliWeather, is also now publicly critical of Al Gore and the Global Warming scan. Watts and Lewis represent some of the first scientists and meteorologists now coming out publicly against the Global Warming scam. Watts, describing himself on his web site, says “As you can see most of my work is in weather technology such as weather stations, weather data processing systems, and weather graphics creation and display.  While I’m not a degreed climate scientist, I’ll point out that neither is Al Gore, and his specialty is presentation also.”

Watts then goes on to say, in a recent post, that “While Copenhagen and its excesses rage, a quiet revolution is starting. Indeed, not so quiet now. It looks like it is getting ugly inside with the public airing of the resignation of a very prominent member” who just happens to be Dr. Lewis.

Dr. Lewis has also previously gone postal against the perpetrators of Climate Gate.

I don’t believe that any real physicist, nay scientist, can read that stuff without revulsion. I would almost make that revulsion a definition of the word scientist…In the interim the ClimateGate scandal broke into the news, and the machinations of the principal alarmists were revealed to the world. It was a fraud on a scale I have never seen, and I lack the words to describe its enormity. Effect on the APS position: none. None at all. This is not science; other forces are at work. – Dr. Hal Lewis

The resignation of Dr. Lewis is just the latest salvo in the ClimateGate war. A group of prominent scientists has asked the American Physical Society to rescind its political statement in support of climate Change. The following letter was signed by Bob Austin, Professor of Physics, Princeton; Hal Lewis, emeritus Professor of Physics, University of California, Santa Barbara; Will Happer, Professor Physics, Princeton; Larry Could, Professor of Physics, Hartford; and Roger Cohen, former Manager, Strategic Planning, ExxonMobil.

Dear fellow member of the American Physical Society:

This is a matter of great importance to the integrity of the Society. It is being sent to a random fraction of the membership, so we hope you will pass it on.

By now everyone has heard of what has come to be known as ClimateGate, which was and is an international scientific fraud, the worst any of us have seen in our cumulative 223 years of APS membership. For those who have missed the news we recommend the excellent summary article by Richard Lindzen in the November 30 edition of the Wall Street journal, entitled “The Climate Science isn’t Settled,” for a balanced account of the situation. It was written by a scientist of unquestioned authority and integrity. A copy can be found among the items at http://tinyurl.com/lg266u, and a visit to http://www.ClimateDepot.com can fill in the details of the scandal, while adding spice.

What has this to do with APS? In 2007 the APS Council adopted a Statement on global warming site mentioned above) that was based largely on the scientific work that is now revealed to have been corrupted. (The principals in this escapade have not denied what they did, but have sought to dismiss it by saying that it is normal practice among scientists. You know and we know that that is simply untrue. Physicists are not expected to cheat.)

We have asked the APS management to put the 2007 Statement on ice until the extent to which it is tainted can be determined, but that has not been done. We have also asked that the membership be consulted on this point, but that too has not been done.

None of us would use corrupted science in our own work, nor would we sign off on a thesis by a student who did so. This is not only a matter of science, it is a matter of integrity, and the integrity of the APS is now at stake. That is why we are taking the unusual step of communicating directly with at least a fraction of the membership.

If you believe that the APS should withdraw a Policy Statement that is based on admittedly corrupted science, and should then undertake to clarify the real state of the art in the best tradition of a learned society, please send a note to the incoming President of the APS [email protected], with the single word YES in the subject line. That will make it easier for him to count.

The barrage continues. Dr. Richard Lindzen, a Professor of Meteorology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Member, Annapolis Center for Science and Economic Advisory Council; Contributing Expert, Cato Institute; and Contributing Expert to the George C. Marshall Institute and a member of the National Academy of Sciences has repeatedly spoken out against the purveyors of ClimateGate. Here are several of Dr. Lindzen’s prominent quotes on ClimateGate:

1 December, 2004

“It doesn’t even matter whether recent global mean temperatures are ‘record breakers’ or even whether current temperatures are ‘unprecedented.’ These are simply red herrings designed to obfuscate the fact that the change over the past century has been small. The fact that such claims are misleading or even false simply provides a temptation to discuss them and implicitly to attach importance to them. Remember, we are talking about tenths of a degree and all of you know intuitively that that isn’t very much.”

12 April, 2006

“Alarm rather than genuine scientific curiosity, it appears, is essential to maintaining funding. And only the most senior scientists today can stand up against this alarmist gale, and defy the iron triangle of climate scientists, advocates and policymakers.”

21 April, 2007

Q: “On a recent Grade 7 test my daughter was asked something to the effect of, “How are you going to educate your parents about global warming?”
Lindzen: “I know. It’s straight out of Hitlerjugend.”

Pandora’s box has now been opened, as far as Al Gore is concerned. The science is indeed settled. ClimateGate is a scam. Instead of more studies on global warming, it is incumbent on governments far and wide, local and national, to open criminal investigations into the activities of those individuals responsible for perpetrating this globally-based scam.

Cap-and-Trade should also die a quick death. However, fully expect Barack Obama to continue to push for this ill-advised legislation. His concern is not scientific in nature. It is about politics and political control. Obama’s agenda includes Cap-and-Trade and the implementation of it through his Chicago Carbon Exchange.  However, since the U.S. Senate is expected to become more conservative after the 2010 midterm elections, Obama’s window of opportunity is rapidly dwindling. It may well be that the only chance Cap-and-Trade has is if it is pushed through the Senate during the lame-duck session. But even that is not guaranteed – especially after the news of Dr. Lewis’ resignation sinks in. Don’t underestimate the influence of Dr. Lewis’ resignation letter. It puts every member of the Senate, Republican or Democrat, on notice that they will be voting in favor of a criminal scam if they vote Yes. It literally puts those who vote “Yes” on record as an accessory to a crime. Dr. Lewis has done something for which the peoples of the world now owe him a favor. Thanks to Dr. Lewis, the scamsters have seen a shot across the bow. The next step is to sink that ship once and for all.
