GOP Could Gain Seats in ’12, Dubious About The Senate

Screen Shot 2012-11-04 at 11.03.58 PM

While the chances of Republicans retaking the U.S. Senate have diminished, thanks to a few unnecessary comments about rap, House Republicans could make gains in 2012.  The Washington Post’s Aaron Blake noted how Democrats were euphoric about retaking the House, but admit that opportunity will not come to fruition due to ten Democratic seats leaning Republican this cycle.

Here are the races that are leaning Republican.

PA-12 moves from “tossup” to “lean Republican”

Critz is in a very tough spot right now, with Republican polls this month showing him slightly behind Republican Keith Rothfus. This district would have given John McCain 54 percent of the vote in 2008.

UT-4 moves from “tossup” to “lean Republican”

A new poll for the Salt Lake Tribune shows Saratoga Springs Mayor Mia Love (R) opening up a 12-point lead on Matheson, and all the polling in this race has gone in one direction: Love’s.

NY-27 moves from “tossup” to “lean Republican”

Hochul is in a 53 percent McCain district, which also happens to be the most conservative district in New York. Polling here has been close, but a GOP internal poll last week shows Republican Chris Collins opening up a seven-point lead.

IA-3 moves from “tossup” to “lean Republican”

The race between Reps. Leonard Boswell (D) and Tom Latham (R) has been tight from the start, and remains tight. We give Latham a slight edge, though, in light of the district’s very slight GOP lean and Latham’s intangibles (money, anecdotal reports, etc.).

KY-6 moves from “lean Democratic” to “tossup”

Chandler is a survivor of the first rank, but he’s also got a 54 percent McCain district, and a GOP poll last week showed him trailing by four in his rematch with Republican Andy Barr.

AZ-2 moves from “likely Democratic” to “lean Democratic”

Barber remains a slight favorite in his race with Republican former Air Force colonel Martha McSally. McSally has proven a better candidate than Jesse Kelly, who lost to Barber in the special election for Gabrielle Giffords House seat earlier this year.

While this is great news, it’s the Senate that matters.  With Republicans defending 10 seats and Democrats tasked with holding on to 23 seats – that conservatives didn’t have much luck putting a lock on at least a few of these races.  Tom Smith may pull off an upset in Pennsylvania and oust incumbent Democratic Senator Bob Casey, Jr.  I’m hoping Scott Brown may be able to survive Elizabeth Warren’s ‘Indian assault,’ but that race will come down to a few thousand votes.  Despite Todd Akin’s ‘legitimate rape’ fiasco this past summer, he could win – and I’ll bet the mortgage that he does.  In Indiana and Ohio, it looks like it’ll be a disappointing night for Richard Mourdock and Josh Mandel.  Regardless, the Senate is where we kill Obamacare.  We only need 51 seats, and it isn’t set in stone that we will reach the number.

Creepy: Florida- Crowd Chants ‘Hail Obama’

hail_obama

There are eerie similarities between Barack Obama and Adolph Hitler, and it appears as though Obama’s followers are going to a creepy, new level in Florida. In the 1930’s and 1940’s it was “Heil Hitler”, now, in 2012, it is “Hail Obama”.

For those who are not familiar with history, here is a quick note from Wikipedia:

Characteristic of a cult of personality, it was adopted in the 1930s by the Nazi Party to signal obedience to the party’s leader Adolf Hitler and to glorify the German nation and later the war effort.

If Obama is re-elected, I wonder if history will repeat itself once again. In Germany, the salute eventually became mandatory for citizens. Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic appears to have learned from their history, as the salute a criminal offense in all four countries now.

twitter

The expansion of social media, and most especially twitter has created a new and powerful way in which citizens within the United States and everywhere around the world interact with each other.  This new and wondrous form of interaction has changed the way information is shared, it has impacted person lives, political lives, and hollywood lives, and has also assist in gather information from protests and riots throughout the Middle-East.  This 140 character mechanism has changed the face of information sharing, and gathering, and allowed for faster personal contact, and changed the lives of those who use it.

If you are concerned that your neighbor might be tweeting something mean or dangerous about you, have no fear, the Secret Service is here!

The Secret Service has now expanded their “sphere” of influence to the twitter realm as well.  On October 23rd, the Secret Service tweeted out to their 44,000 followers that if you are see a tweet from your fellow citizen that might “concern you,” to report it to the them.  CNSNEWS reports that;

“To report a tweet that concerns you, call the nearest field office in your state,” the Secret Service tweeted on Oct. 23.  The agency then links to a list of contact numbers for Field Offices in each state.

The Next day, October 24th, the Secret Service followed up with another tweet which said; “Contact your nearest field office with times sensitive or critical info or to report a tweet.”

The Secret Service is not the only government agency that has recently expanded its powers.

This new executive order establishes a new council that will “provide guidance” and have a member from 19 different committees from the legislature.  Everything from the Department of State, Labor, Energy, Education, and many many more.

President Barack Obama signed a new executive order on October 26th 2012.

EXECUTIVE ORDER
– – – – – – –
ESTABLISHING THE WHITE HOUSE
HOMELAND SECURITY PARTNERSHIP COUNCIL
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and in order to advance the Federal Government’s use of local partnerships to address homeland security challenges, it is hereby ordered as follows:
Section 1. Policy. The purpose of this order is to maximize the Federal Government’s ability to develop local partnerships in the United States to support homeland security priorities. Partnerships are collaborative working relationships in which the goals, structure, and roles and responsibilities of the relationships are mutually determined. Collaboration enables the Federal Government and its partners to use resources more efficiently, build on one another’s expertise, drive innovation, engage in collective action, broaden investments to achieve shared goals, and improve performance. Partnerships enhance our ability to address homeland security priorities, from responding to natural disasters to preventing terrorism, by utilizing diverse perspectives, skills, tools, and resources.
The National Security Strategy emphasizes the importance of partnerships, underscoring that to keep our Nation safe “we must tap the ingenuity outside government through strategic partnerships with the private sector, nongovernmental organizations, foundations, and community-based organizations. Such partnerships are critical to U.S. success at home and abroad, and we will support them through enhanced opportunities for engagement, coordination, transparency, and information sharing.” This approach recognizes that, given the complexities and range of challenges, we must institutionalize an all-of-Nation effort to address the evolving threats to the United States.
The fact that these two agencies have now expanded their out reach in the same 3 day period remains to be seen.  The fact remains that the Federal Government has expanded its powers, and observational capacity, and is asking for your help.

A Walk For The President

cross

My aunt sent this video link to me, and it could not have come at a more appropriate time. I am actually in our nation’s capital as I write this, so as I am watching this, I can literally look out of my hotel window and see the Washington Monument and the Capital Building.

To walk the hallowed streets of the very heartbeat of America, knowing that you are walking in the very footsteps that our Founding Fathers walked, is amazing! It is a beauty that I believe every citizen should see at least once in their lifetime.

Most importantly, the man in the White House needs to be reminded of who America is. One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All!

Mitt Romney Is Wrong On Defense Department Cuts

Pentagon

Mitt Romney has made the prevention of President Barack Obama’s sequestration plan one of his primary campaign talking points. He’s probably done this for two reasons: it plays well with voters in Virginia and veterans, but it also helps with those who want the U.S. to have the strongest military possible.

There’s nothing wrong with the U.S. having a strong military; the Constitution says the country must be able to defend its borders. However, the country is dealing with $16-trillion in debt which means some cuts have to happen. It’s here where Romney is wrong on an increase in defense spending.

For the sake of America’s financial future, there have to be cuts to defense and changes to how the Pentagon doles out cash. Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz wants the State Department to start prioritizing spending. The Defense Department needs to do this as well. The way to figure this out is through Senator Rand Paul’s suggested audit of the Pentagon.

The best example of how wasteful the Pentagon can be is a look at military auctions websites. Listings include a stroller, weights, a driving simulator, a Piper Arrow IV aircraft, a Vantage Motor Scooter and a 1978 Corvette. The weights make sense because soldiers need to be in shape. The driver simulator makes sense as well, because it’s cheaper to use a simulator than wreck a vehicle. But having a motor scooter or a Corvette in our military inventory makes zero sense whatsoever. Here is where cuts help the military prioritize spending and eliminate waste.

There can also be reforms into how military contracts are handed out. Citizens Against Government Waste has done an excellent job at pointing out some of the problems, including analysis on defense issues (anyone remember the $640 toilet seat?).

Just because spending cuts happen doesn’t mean the U.S. military can’t recoup some of the money lost. The simplest way is to go through some of the surplus warehouses, find things which are valuable and sell them. Michelle Ray has told the story of how someone she knows made a 200% profit minimum by stripping the copper from spools of wire and selling it. If private citizens can do this, why can’t the military?

The military could also save money by selling aircraft and weapons it doesn’t use. Obviously there are concerns about Iran getting a hold of some technology; however, completely scrapping the entire F-14 Tomcat fleet in 2006 makes zero sense. The sale of the airplanes to Israel or Brazil or Taiwan would help offset some of the cuts. A similar solution could be devised for our fleet at sea.

Military cuts don’t have to mean gutting the armed forces. Senator Pat Toomey has proposed a plan which reduces spending in all areas and yet still makes sure the military is strong. A strong military ensures the country can defend itself from foreign threats the natural borders with the Atlantic and Pacific oceans can’t. It also makes sure our bases and embassies across the globe are protected from threats.

But as former Joint Chief of Staff chair Admiral Mike Mullen has said, the national debt is the greatest threat the U.S. has. Spending and the growth of government need to be stopped.

This means no sacred cows. Not if there’s going to be a financial future for the U.S.

Former Obama Voter Wakes Up and Smells the Bulls–t on LIVE TV

bullshitting_the_public

During last night’s debate, Frank Luntz hosted a focus group in Las Vegas, Nevada. After the debate, Fox New’s Sean Hannity had Mr. Luntz and the focus group on his show, and the truth began to fly!

The group was made up of mostly 2008 Obama voters (if I recall correctly, there were maybe 4 in the group who did not vote for Obama), and all but maybe 4 of the previous voters have changed their mind for this election.

One man in particular was quick to point out the foul smell he fell for. During his interview, he caught himself the first time. However, the second time, he wasn’t so mindful of his mouth, and his true feelings spilled out on live TV!
