Kujichagulia – Second Principle of Kwanzaa (Part 3 in Kwanzaa Series)

Principle #2 Kujichagulia

Today is the second day of Kwanzaa and marks Part 3 in my ongoing Kwanzaa series.  You can read Part 1 here and Part 2 here.  As I have already established, I believe Kwanzaa is antithetical to traditional American values.  Moreover I believe Kwanzaa’s creator, Dr. Ron Karenga meant it to be that way as he sees American values as destructive to “Africans in America”.  You can refer back to Part 1 to read about the roots of Kwanzaa and why it is based in Marxist theory, but today we are here to explore the second of the seven principles of Kwanzaa – Kujichagulia.

As a teenager celebrating Kwanzaa, I hated this day the most because we could never pronounce it! Kujichagulia is Swahili for Self-Determination and the purpose of this principle under the Kwanzaa model is to “define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves and speak for ourselves”.  At first blush, this seems like a an honorable and admirable principle.  Don’t we tell our children often not to let others define them and to stick up for themselves?  However, you must remember that we are looking at this through the eyes of a man who still carries much disdain for the America in which he has enriched himself and for white people in general.  Karenga is also a purveyor of Marxist theory, and that is reflected in every principle of the celebration.  On this day families are meant to light the red candle (although the order and number of colors can be flexible based on personal choice).  According to kwanzaaguide.com: The red candle is symbolic of the effort a person, family, school or community makes. The lesson is that we light the red candle to reinforce the value of work and effort.  Frederick Douglass reminds us that “If there is no struggle there is no progress.”

Again, on the surface this idea is not controversial, but as a Christian American who understands the history and intent of Kwanzaa I do find it antithetical to the American spirit and culture.  The point of Kujichagulia is not just promote self-esteem, it is to separate oneself from the larger American culture.  I’m all for cultural pride, but once again Karenga has determined that cultural pride can only be achieved by separatism, removing ourselves from our American communities.   Indeed, any time in this country where we have seen communities engage in separatism it has become a disaster.  Indian reservations across America are rife with poverty, drugs, alcoholism and abuse.  Jim Crow laws led to a very sick society that eventually erupted in protests and violence. Even some cults who choose to wall themselves off from general American society have suffered great tragedies (Jim Jones, etc.).  We are not meant to live separately from each other as cultures.  Oh yes, culture is important and influential – that’s God’s flavoring!  But cultures need not separate in order to thrive.  As a matter of fact, American culture is so unique precisely because of all the other cultures it incorporates.  It is a melting pot that takes the flavors of so many people who come here to find freedom and combines them to make one unique, diverse dish called America.  Kujichagulia would have us breaking off from that American heritage, denouncing it, and declaring our African heritage (which is sometimes questionable this far into the history of America, as I mentioned in Part 1) as the only culture/heritage worth our pride our recognition.

I also take issue with the secular idea of defining ourselves, naming ourselves.  God is removed from this equation under Kwanzaa.  Dr. Karenga has been very clear that he does not wish for Kwanzaa to be religious in any way and that individuals can incorporate their own beliefs if they wish.  Fine and dandy until you realize that Marxist/socialist theory calls for God to be removed from community life, and our Founding Fathers understood that belief in God was integral to a free society.  We are defined by so much more than how we see ourselves.  As a Christian, I believe I am defined by the Creator; a God Who has a purpose and a plan for my life and my community.  I am a sinner.  If I am left to define myself in totality, I am left with sin and a broken plan, for I do not see the larger picture.  It is extremely valuable to understand that where you are and who you are with are all part of a bigger picture.  Removing yourself and your community from that picture does not create prosperity, but division and hardship.  We are meant to live intertwining lives.  Our journey in America as Black people may have began in tragedy, but it has developed into a rich and influential history. We have become vital to the health and development of this nation.  The curse of slavery has turned into a rich blessing.  I would never want to separate myself or my family from that reality, or the blessings of the present because of the anger from the past.  I believe Kujichagulia seeks to do that, whether or not Kwanzaa’s founder and celebrants would admit.  This idea of separating ourselves is not American, and it is killing the Black community.

Part 4 tomorrow.

Happy Birthday, Rev. Billy Graham!

Ninety-three years ago the world was changed forever. November 7, 1918- William Franklin Graham, Jr.- known to all the world as the Reverend Billy Graham, came into this world.

He was born to Morrow and William Franklin Graham I, on a dairy farm near Charlotte, North Carolina. Though he was raised in the Presbyterian Church by his parents, at the age of 16 he converted and became  an evangelical Southern Baptist.

America’s Preacher, as he is now known, was not always looked so fondly upon. In his teenage years, he was not allowed to become a member of the local youth group because he was “too worldly.” He later went to college, but found himself facing expulsion. He was warned by administration staff not to throw his life away, and was told: “At best, all you could amount to would be a poor country Baptist preacher somewhere out in the sticks…. You have a voice that pulls. God can use that voice of yours. He can use it mightily.”

Indeed, God has used Billy Graham’s voice. He has preached the Gospel of Christ to more people than any other person in history, with more than 3.2 million accepting invitations to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior at Billy Graham Crusades. As of 2008, his lifetime audience was more than 2.2 billion people. His evangelism career spans more than half a century- six decades, in fact- actively preaching the gospel.

He has been a trusted spiritual adviser to most of the last 12 Presidents, and has met personally with every President, starting with Harry S. Truman, up to our current President Barack Obama.

Today is his birthday. Happy Birthday, Billy Graham! You have truly changed the world! May God bless you sir!

Christian Online Game Competes with Disney and Other Top Brands

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — When it launched BIGBibleTown.com last year, Third Day Games knew it would be facing some heavy competition. But after several months and thousands of kids playing, the response is confirming that the game is a competitive Christian alternative to secular juggernauts from the industry’s top brands.

There is no doubt that kids love video games. According to a recent study released by NPD*, over 91% of kids in the US play them. As kids’ interest in games has grown, so has the popularity of online games from top brands including Disney (Club Penguin) and Legos.com, with millions of kids playing these games for several hours each week.

BIGBibleTown.com is designed as a Christian alternative. This online game immerses elementary age children in scripture-based Bible adventures and includes all the features that make secular games so appealing to kids — a customizable virtual character, their own house that they can decorate, a virtual economy, and mini-games that kids play to earn virtual money. The compelling distinction with BIG Bible Town is that its 32 mini-games are interactive recreations of 32 Bible stories. So as kids have fun playing, they are learning these Bible stories and practicing Christian values.

According to Bobby Wells, CEO of Third Day Games, “Our goal is to capture a portion of video game playtime and repurpose it toward building Bible knowledge and Christian character in kids while they are young. To accomplish this, we knew the game had to be so much fun that it could go up against today’s popular games and compete for kids’ attention.

Courageous! The Movie

I am not one for going to the movie theater, preferring instead to watch movies from the comfort of my own couch. It just makes logical sense to me. It does not cost a drop in the bucket what the cost of going to a movie theater costs these days. I can have all the snacks I want at a mere fraction of the cost, and most importantly, I can actually pause the movie and go to the powder room when necessary!

I’m sure it came as quite a surprise to my husband when he received an email from me telling him that I wanted to go see this movie! I knew we had an upcoming trip out of town, away from the kids, and knowing how much he loves going to the movie theater, I thought this would be a great surprise for him to have me actually say I want to go to a movie theater.

I had seen the preview several times, but did not read any movie reviews. I have found that so often, the movies I like are given bad reviews by other reviewers. Knowing this movie is a wholesome movie made me stay away from reviews even more.

I have visited the main page of the website, but did not want to go any deeper until after I saw the movie. Needless to say, I was completely surprised by the entire plot.

This is just a blurb from the actual synopsis of the Courageous website:

From the writers of Fireproof and Facing the Giants comes a story about four law enforcement officers whose lives are deeply tested as they embrace their calling to serve and to protect. As crime fighters, they must face danger every day. Yet when tragedy hits close to home, they are left wrestling with their hopes, their faith, and their priorities as men.

Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, they face danger every day. Yet when tragedy strikes close to home, these fathers are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, and their faith. From this struggle will come a decision that changes all of their lives. With action, drama, and humor, the fourth film from Sherwood Pictures embraces God’s promise to "turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers." Souls will be stirred, and hearts will be challenged to be … courageous!

Having seen all of the movies that have been produced by Sherwood Church in Albany, Georgia, I thought I knew what to expect. A heart-felt movie that dealt with real life, but not with quite the same depth and reality as Hollywood. This movie provides very little distinction between the production quality of professionals and those who are called by God for the purpose of bringing Him glory in their movies. That is- with the major exception of the foul language that seems to be a "necessity" in every Hollywood movie.

Please do not get me wrong- unfortunately, I have grown accustomed to the harsh language that peppers our world today, and in fact, at times have been known to speak in a way not so becoming of a lady. Sadly, I’ve grown so accustomed to this reality that there are very few times I’m actually phased by foul language. However, in many movies that come out of Hollywood today, it’s as if they just stuck a four-letter word here and there to seem cool and acceptable to their audience.

There were times in this movie that I was literally hanging on to the edge of my seat, anticipating what was coming next! There was a moment of actual fear, as I became so lost in the story that it was almost reality for me. There were times I laughed. And there were many times I cried. It hit home for me because of past experiences in my life.

I was not aware of the fact that the movie deals with the tragic death of a loved one. The raw emotion portrayed by the family members who lost their loved one struck a cord in me that cannot be explained. Only those who have lost a loved one in a horrible tragedy know that raw emotion. Only those who have clung to the hem of His garment in the aftermath of the tragic death can know exactly what I’m talking about.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this movie! Support a Christian movie that has a lot to offer- entertainment, wisdom, knowledge, strength, comfort, laughter, tears, action, romance, and challenges. I specifically challenge any man who is a father to go see this movie. It very well could change your life, and how you view the calling on your life.

While it is a very well made movie, technically, in my opinion, it is a movie made from the talents and gifts of many every day, ordinary people. It is not a movie made by the Hollywood stars and starlets who see millions of dollars per movie. The real-life quaintness was refreshing to me.

If you go to the movies to critique the camera angles, lighting and video technique, this may not be the movie for you. However, I still recommend it to you. I simply challenge you look through the eyes of your heart rather than the eyes of the technical critic in you.

".. honor begins at home."

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid;
do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9

Charity From The Church. What A Concept!

I’m a Christian.  A very strong one, as a matter of fact, but over the years I’ve allowed myself to become quite jaded with the Church.  The Church, after all, is administrated by man and as such is just as corrupt as any other human agency, but a church called Liquid Church in New Jersey has caused me to take another look.

This past Sunday, the Church sent around the collection plate in what would appear to be a normal offering, but this time, instead of putting money into the plate, parishioners were told to take an envelope out of the plate.

Inside the envelope was either a $10, $20, or $50 bill.  In total, the church gave away $30,000 for this event, which Senior Pastor Tim Lucas said was to:

“teach churchgoers that faith in God, not government, is the only route to recovery in this financial crisis”.

Wow!  An argument that conservatives have been making for decades is that the reason we have the welfare state that we have is because churches have dropped the ball and left government to pick up the pieces.  If more churches would do things like this, there might come a time when the social programs like we currently have them won’t have a reason to exist.

The church plans to donate an additional $60,000 to various projects in the northern New Jersey counties they serve.

Bravo, Pastor Lucas.  Keep it up!

Commission on Accountability and Policy for Religious Organizations Appoints Panel Members

ECFA Leading National, Independent Effort to Review, Provide Input on Accountability and Policy Issues Affecting Such Groups

WINCHESTER, Va., Sept. 8, 2011 — Representatives from religious groups, the broader nonprofit sector and the legal community have been appointed to a trio of panels that will work with the Commission on Accountability and Policy for Religious Organizations, the commission announced today.

The Commission on Accountability and Policy for Religious Organizations was formed following a staff report issued in January by U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) that focused on the financial practices of six high-profile media-based Christian ministries. After releasing the findings of his three-year inquiry, the senator asked ECFA (Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability) to spearhead an independent national effort to review and provide input on major accountability and policy issues affecting religious and other nonprofit organizations.

According to ECFA President Dan Busby, a total of 66 members has been named to the three panels by commission chairman Michael Batts. The panels are each expected to meet twice in Washington, D.C., in addition to participating in other ways. Members of the three panels will work together with the commission by providing input and proposals on the issues.

The Panel of Religious Sector Representatives is composed of 25 leaders from a variety of faiths, including but not limited to Protestant Christianity, Roman Catholicism, Islam and Judaism. For this panel and thePanel of Nonprofit Sector Representatives, made up of 18 individuals, special emphasis was placed on engaging those who represent large segments of their respective faith groups and the nonprofit sector to facilitate broad representation. The 23 members of the Panel of Legal Experts have extensive experience in the arena of exempt organizations, religious organizations and/or constitutional law.

Lists of panel members and their affiliations are posted at http://www.religiouspolicycommission.org/panels.

“The men and women comprising these panels are all experienced leaders representing various faith groups, various elements of the nonprofit sector and the legal profession,” Batts said. “Their participation in addressing the important issues before the commission is essential to the effectiveness of the process, and we are deeply grateful for their willingness to serve.”

Issues before the commission include whether:

  • churches should be more accountable to the federal government;
  • legislation is needed to curb perceived abuses of the clergy housing allowance exclusion;
  • the current prohibition against political campaign intervention by churches and other nonprofits should be repealed or modified;
  • the rules for determining the reasonableness of nonprofit executive compensation should be tightened;
  • penalties should be expanded for nonprofits and their leaders who engage in prohibited activities.

In addition to the panels’ participation, the commission is also receiving input from the Internal Revenue Service, town hall meetings and other informal channels.

The commission also announced it has selected two prestigious law firms, Holme Roberts & Owen (HRO) and Holland & Knight (H&K), to provide independent technical analysis and research for the commission. Stuart Lark and John Wylie are lead attorneys from HRO and are based in the firm’s Colorado Springs, Colo., office. Nathan Adams is lead attorney from H&K and is based in the firm’s Tallahassee, Fla., office. Both firms have agreed to serve on a pro bono basis.

ECFA, founded in 1979, provides accreditation to leading Christian nonprofit organizations that faithfully demonstrate compliance with the ECFA standards pertaining to financial accountability, fundraising and board governance. Announcing Publication of The New New Testament

WASHINGTON, Sept. 8, 2011 — Very different from other New Testaments, the New New Testament is not the work of scholars but of a simple scribe who says he was asked by Jesus and the original authors of the New Testament to rewrite this as they want it to be today. Many may have trouble with this concept, the scribe himself being one of them. It is very hard for us to believe that “everything is possible with God.” (Mark 10, 27)

The scribe, Ken Maley, says, “When Jesus asked me in 2009 to write this down he promised the aid of each of the original authors to help guide me. They were the authors and Jesus’ Spirit was the Editor in Chief.” All this comes down to one simple question: Can Jesus give us a New New Testament if he wants to? For those who are willing to consider that possibility, the rest will be personal judgment flowing from heart and mind. The questioner is invited to read some selections from the New New Testament and let their hearts meld with their minds to give the answer.

The teaching of Jesus presented here is in no way something new. It was the core teaching in the early Church up until the fourth century when money and power overrode tradition, and to this day it is the teaching of many Eastern Churches, which never lost Jesus’ real Message.

Those very close to Jesus knew this teaching and later taught it. Christianity went underground in many places because Jesus’ core teaching — that we are God (John 10, 34) — continued to be illegal for a long time after Jesus was killed for preaching it, and so had to be kept secret except among members of the Communities.

When asked the impact of such a re-issue of the world’s most important book, Ken Maley answered: “It cannot be stressed enough that Jesus does not want a new Church, or a new sect to come from his Message here! He simply wants his core Message to be taught and believed in all his Churches! His teaching here may well radically change Christianity today everywhere except in those places, mainly in the East, were his core Message was never lost, but it must be seen as a return to that Message and not a changing of it!”

The New New Testament may be purchased at: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/s/new-new-testament?store=book and at other places. For additional information, videos and selected texts, please see http://www.NewNewTestament.org.

His Reputation Precedes Him

If you attended this “come to Jesus meetin’ “, this is the situation that  precipitated the calling of that emergency meeting.

This week a situation occurred that required the involvement of a repairman. I will not bore you with all the gory details, but will give you an example of what your business practices reflects about you, as we discussed in our meeting.

We rent our home. The management company we rent has a name that is synonymous with honor. Their name implies that you can trust the company. The repair company that was sent out has a name that is a last name, Inc. There is nothing in the name that makes you think you can trust- or distrust- this company.

The repair that was required is outlined in the lease as the responsibility of the owner/management company. However, when I called in the repair request, after asking me a couple of questions, the receptionist told me it sounded like I would be responsible for paying for the repairs. Now, in the over-used words of our president- let me be clear: we are the kind of renters that every home owner dreams of. We do not call in fore repairs on anything unless it is an absolute necessity. We are in our third lease in this home, and this is only the 3rd time we have had to have a repair. The previous two repairs were not emergency repairs, but things we could not take care of. The last repair was an emergency: the air conditioner was not cooling properly. Being that it is one of the hottest summers on record, we are in a drought, and we have five children- this was an emergency.

We change our filters regularly. I keep a very clean house. Yes, even with five kids, I am a neat freak. I cannot function if everything is not in the right place. Clutter makes me crazy. I am a very detailed oriented person, so we have a schedule to make sure filters are changed and vacuumed, and other household chores are taken care of when needed.

We are also people who believe in personal responsibility. If we break something, we feel we are responsible for it.

However, if we are taking care of our responsibilities, and something happens, we believe that it is not our responsibility to take care of it.  The law agrees with us, as our lease specifically addresses this situation.

When the repairman called to get approval to do what he had to do, he was given the third degree as to the condition of the equipment. Now, before I go any further, yes, I understand that there are a lot of people that do not take care of things, nor do they take personal responsibility. Asking the questions to make sure nothing malicious or neglectful caused the problem is understandable. However, grilling the repairman is a completely different thing.

Once it was established that we had not caused the problem, and the cost for repairs was given, the repairman was then grilled about the breakdown of the charges. Now, again, yes, I understand that repairmen are usually not trusted, and many are known to be dishonest. However, when listing out the cost of the actual equipment, tools and other items needed to make the repair, factoring in the cost of travel costs and labor, anyone in the business world knows you have to make a profit to run a business.

The attitude of the owner of the management company was disdain that he would have to take care of the problem. This is the business he is in. He has renters who view the home he rents as their home, not just a rent home. We have never once been late with rent or any other issues.

His actions have reflected a lot less than a business owner with integrity. Not only has his attitude reflected poorly to his renters, but to the repair company as well. This business man- who identifies himself as a Christ follower- has reflected an attitude and actions of dishonor, deceit and untrustworthiness.

His reputation precedes him.

A Come To Jesus Meeting For Christian Business Owners

If you don’t know what a “come to Jesus meeting” is, the “official definition” from the urbandictionary is:

Getting called on the carpet, dressed down, or otherwise chewed out in a severe manner. Usually used in conjunction with “meetin'” (meeting)

A meeting where someone close to you (e.g. friend, family, etc.) are confronted over behavior that’s causing consternation that’s negatively effecting your relationship.

It’s high time for a “come to Jesus meetin” with Christian business owners. You are being called on the carpet, dressed down, and chewed out in a severe manner because your behavior is causing consternation that is negatively effecting your relationship with the world.

Let’s start at the beginning, shall we? That’s how any “come to Jesus meetin'” starts- at the beginning.

If you claim to be a Christian, that means you identify yourself with the teachings of Jesus Christ- correct?

Where do we get the teachings of Jesus Christ? From The Bible, correct? Yes. So, we will reference Bible Scripture to show the importance of how your behavior reflects Jesus Christ to the rest of the world.

It is very unfortunate that we have to have this meeting, but as is the case with any uncomfortable situation, there comes a point in time where it just cannot be swept under the rug any longer.

When you think about what your character, how do you think people would describe you? This question is for everyone- Christians, and non-Christians alike.

Since this “come to Jesus meetin’ ” is for those who say they are Christ followers, we will focus on those folks for now. We will address non-Christians in another meeting.

For any person, your character is what defines you. If you identify yourself as a Christian, your life should reflect the ways- the character- of Christ.

In defining what the character of Christ is, and therefore, what the character of Christians should be, one word says it all: Integrity.

Integrity is not simply being honest and trustworthy; it is much more than that. The synonyms that are listed for “integrity” are:

candor, forthrightness, goodness, honesty, incorruptibility, principled, purity, righteousness, sincerity, straightforward, virtue

There is honor in living a life of integrity.

In studying the Bible, we see that God’s Word tells us a lot about having- and reflecting- integrity.

    1. Integrity means treating people fairly and honestly. (Leviticus 19:35-36, Deut 25:15, Proverbs 16:11-13)
    2. Integrity is giving your word and keeping it. (Exodus 8:28-32)
    3. Integrity will protect you. In Psalm 25, David prays that integrity and uprightness will protect him. How can it? (Psalm 25:21, Proverbs 2:7-8, 10:9, 11:3, 13:6)
    4. Integrity is more valuable than riches. (Proverbs 28:6)
    5. The Lord will test and judge your integrity. (1 Chronicles 29:17, Psalm 7:8)
    6. The Lord hates lies and lack of integrity. (Zechariah 8:16-17)
    7. It may be difficult to maintain your integrity. (Job 2:3, 2:9, Proverbs 29:10)
    8. Your character can be corrupted by bad company. (1 Corinthians 15:33)
    9. Integrity will be rewarded. (1 Kings 9:4-5, Nehemiah 7:2, Psalm 41:11-12)
    10. Your integrity should set an example. (Titus 2:7)

Now that we have the basics outlined, let’s move on to the next step. Christian business owners.

If you own a business, and you identify yourself as a Christ follower, your business life, business decisions, business practices, the way you treat your employees, the way you treat your customers- all aspects of not only your personal life, but your business life as well, should reflect integrity.

While integrity is something that should be expected from anyone who owns a business, it’s common knowledge that the business world is a very corrupt and cut-throat  environment. For a Christian in the business world, we should be able to expect that their beliefs would dictate their business practices would reflect integrity. The very fact that we have to have this “come to Jesus meetin’ ” means that is not the case. There is definitely a problem that has to be addressed. We can no longer take for granted what should be common practice. It’s time to lay everything out on the table.

These things should be obvious to anyone- Christians and non-Christians alike- but just like those warning labels that say

“Remove occupants from the stroller before folding it.”

There’s a reason why those warnings are there!

You can find a personal example here of how some things should be obvious in business, but that’s not always the case.  This personal example is, in fact, what has precipitated this “come to Jesus meetin’ ” you are attending.

One of the most important choices you must make when you go into business is the name of the business. As a business owner who identifies yourself as a Christ follower, this decision  is even more important if you choose to link your business identity with your personal identity as a Christian.

If you choose a name such as “Heavenly Homes”, “Guardian Angels Security, or  “Integrity Building and Supply”, you need to keep in mind that your business practices will now be judged by more than just your business practices. You have now set the expectation that you are a good, honest, incorrupt, principled, pure, righteous, sincere, straightforward and virtuous business.

It becomes even more important with a name that brings to mind good, honest and forthright actions that you run your business in a way that reflects goodness, honesty and forthrightness. If you do not, you will in fact reflect the opposite: wickedness, dishonesty and deception.

Everything in life is a choice. Every single choice we make has a consequence– good, bad or indifferent. It’s a chain reaction.

Are you and your business practices reflecting the identity you claim?

The Hands of the Potter

“To make more beauty, of course.”

Jeremiah 18

The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.  Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.  And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.  Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, O” house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

My friend had broken the lovely tile that covered his floor and posted a picture on facebook.

I enquired in a silly and playful manner, “Why dost thou smash beauty?”.

I knew there was a good reason. Perhaps the floor had been rotting beneath, or the tile that was already removed damaged, and the floor needed to be redone. His reply surprised me.   I awaited explanation and he instead replied,

“To make more beauty, of course.”

And I thought of the above scripture immediately.

Picture a potter at the wheel, looking down at what sits between his gifted – his skilled hands.
Picture the marring in the clay.
Picture him “making it again another vessel.”

A potter smashes the heck out of that clay. Did you know that?
The skillful fingertips that tenderly gently form and shape beauty are those same fingers that make up the part of the fists that slam against the clay and manipulate the substance into yet another form.

I have no explanation for the hardness we endure in this life.

I wish I did.

What I do have, are arms of consolation. Kisses on the cheek and forehead and soothing words to comfort one who is in the process of being made into “again another vessel”. What I do have is the ability to look forward at the lovely thing that will be; The finished product.

That, dear friends, is hope in our hearts, and we all know that no man can survive long without hope.

Yield yourself to the potter.
Yield yourself to his plan – His vision for you.
He has something in mind – for you.
And another scripture pops into my mind.

Jeremiah 29

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.  And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

And I will be found of you, saith the LORD.

Not only does your Creator see you, hear you, and love you, he has made plans for you and they do not involve evil.

In fact, they involve his being Found Of You.
And “An Expected End”.
How lovely are those words to one whose future seems so uncertain at times?

Perhaps you are on the potter’s wheel.
Perhaps you are marred.
Perhaps you are being re-created.

Remember my question to Steve.

“Why dost thou smash beauty?”
and remember his answer.
” To make more beauty of course.”

But more importantly of all, remember in whose hands you rest.
The safest, most skillful, most capable, and most beautiful hands in the Universe.

The Hands of the Potter.♥

What America is Obama from? – Not Mine!

Wednesday evening Obama spoke during an Iftar Dinner at the White House celebrating Ramadan. Now some of you may know what the Ramadan is, but there might be a few that don’t know what it is. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, which lasts 29 or 30 days.

It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and sexual intimacy with their partners during daylight hours and is intended to teach Muslims about patience, spirituality, humility and submissiveness to Allah.

During his speech he made a comment that I would call frightening. “Like so many faiths, Islam has always been part of our American family, and Muslim Americans have long contributed to the strength and character of our country, in all walks of life.”

Really? I mean did he just say that? Is he so ignorant of the American history? In my last article I proved that America was founded on Christian Values. So, where does Islam fit in, Obama? Those weren’t Muslims  present when the Pilgrims first landed? There was not anyone signing the Declaration of Independence,  practicing the Islamic faith, and no Muslims signed it.

Were there any Muslims fighting for our freedom from England? There is no mention of any in the history books that tell the history of how America came about. So, Obama I can say without a doubt that not only are you not eligible to be the president of the greatest nation on Earth because your father is Kenyan, but a sitting president or a candidate for president should at least know the history of the United States.

Besides Obama “praising” Islam, where are the Atheist on this? They attack Christians because we have faith in God and Jesus Christ – whom will deliver us from evil, as long as we do God’s will.

Matthew 6:9-13 Our Father in heaven,  Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts,  As we forgive our debtors.  And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

Muslim activists in the West have been using the tactic of claiming that they worship the same god as the Christians in order to gain legitimacy and acceptance. One does not have to look very far to see the “God” Muslims serve is not like the one true God I serve.

14 centuries ago Mohammed started preaching his new religion in Mecca he was conciliatory and appeasing to Christians. He told them: “We believe in What has been sent down to us and sent down to you, our God is the same as your God.” Surah 29:46. But later, in Medina, after Mohammed gained strength, Allah then tells him to “Fight those who believe not in God nor the last day. Nor acknowledge the religion of truth (Islam), (even if they are) of the people of the Book, until they pay Jizya (tribute tax) with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued“. Surah 9:29

Yes, under the Old Testament law God was cruel with the people – but we are not supposed to live under the Old Testament laws now. Ever since Jesus Christ died on the cross for all of our sins we are to live under the New Testament laws. But nowhere in the Qu’ran do you see Allah making changes for believers to live by.

Atheist activist are upset and trying to remove everything related to the one true God,  but have been quiet about Muslims trying to implement Islamic religion into the United States. At least Christianity is a peaceful religion unlike Islam.

The website Bare Naked Islam had an article about Islam Billboards going up along the New Jersey Turnpike. While most billboards you drive by on the New Jersey Turnpike advertise things like hotels or cars, the billboards getting attention recently advertise a certain religion and are stirring up controversy. The reason I do not like this billboard is the fact that they used the American Flag underneath the word Islam – it is just not right. The only part of American History that Islam is part of, that most Americans will remember is Sept. 11, 2001.

Image provided by BareNakedIslam

MyFoxNY.com notes in an article about these billboards that drivers on the turnpike aren’t the only ones who will see these billboards. Similar ads are going up on highways in dozens of other states. One thing is for sure Islam is NOT nor was it EVER a part of the history of the United States. Obama, I think instead of going on vacation in a week or two – should stay home and study about the history of America! Folks please remember all these blunders that Obama has had in the past and is still having them.

America: At a Moral Crossroad

crossroadWe have a major moral issue brewing in America today. The issue is that the vast majority of people considered ‘leaders’ (i.e. political, social, educational and even religious leaders) in America have strayed a long way from the moral, personal responsibility teachings of the One true God of the Bible and have replaced the wisdom of God with the foolishness of man’s wisdom. The Founding Fathers who established this amazing country did not rely on their secular wisdom to establish America’s initial rules and laws. They were on their knees daily seeking the very face of their Creator God asking Him for His wisdom as they tried to establish this country.

Psalm 113:4 —-For the Lord is high above the nations;

His glory is far greater than the heavens.

Now this once great country has never been perfect. The wise people who worked night and day for years to initially establish this country’s rules and guidelines were imperfect sinners. And it was this personal understanding of their lack of inner imperfection and partial darkness that drove the Founding Fathers to understand that this nation could not be properly established (and maintained) if it was not grounded with biblically based moral laws. I am not going to list the hundreds of moral quotes and biblical convictions that these people had. However, I will list a few in order to help the ignorant. (I know a lot of you government educated people were deceived by anti-God, anti-American teachers who never taught you the truth about the biblical founding of this country.) I would encourage any of the rest of you anti-God, anti-American liberals who have more brains than a French fry to do a little research and see that our Founding Fathers clearly saw the absolute necessity of running their newly established government on biblical principles.

John Adams

2nd U.S. President and Signer of the Declaration of Independence

“The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever.”
–Adams wrote this in a letter to his wife, Abigail, on July 3, 1776.

The brilliant men who founded this nation clearly saw that if this Christian nation (i.e. her people) strayed from the absolute moral truths of the Bible (has it has today) and instead tries to establish its own nonbiblical ‘do whatever feels good or whatever the people want’ morals, it would not be long before the entire American governmental system would fail!

1st U.S. President George Washington

“While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to addcornerstone foundiing fathers the more distinguished character of Christian.”
The Writings of Washington, pp. 342-343.

As I write this America is at a moral crossroad. Even though there is a group of genuine political patriots trying to resolve this nation’s economic problems it will not last without also re-establishing America’s moral compass. The leaders in this nation must once again publicly put the Divine One (who initially helped the Founding Fathers establish this country) back on His throne in America. Many in positions of leadership in America have kicked God out of the house. We have kicked Him out of the amoral and immoral, failing government school system. We have kicked the Lord out the same hallowed halls of our government’s political system where He was once publicly revered and honored.

Proverbs 12:2 —–The Lord approves of those who are good,

but He condemns those who plan wickedness.

If the fiscally conservative political leaders of this nation do not recognize that the All-Knowing, All-Powerful Creator God of this universe needs to have eminence in all we do in this nation even the plans of these political patriots will fail. Without the Lord being the head of this nation we will never be able to re-establish this once great country’s place of political and social superiority. So simply trying to re-establish economic responsibility in this country will not save America from falling! A balanced and fiscally responsible budget is great, but it will never succeed if we do not also re-establish this nation’s social and spiritual heritage.

Proverbs 16:25 —-There is a path before each person that seems right,

but it ends in death.

We the people must stop listening to the promiscuous cries of a sinful people who desire nothing more than to live in their wanton pleasures when we try to establish biblically based moral laws and rules in this nation. If this nation is going to survive, American loving patriots needs to publicly rebuke the historically ignorant idiots who cry out, “Separation of church and state” every time biblically moral people try to establish moral accountability in our government. (P.S. There is nothing in our constitution which demands that our government keep religion out of its everyday practices. From day one our country’s governmental buildings were adorned with Bible verses and moral quotes. From day one the political leaders of this land constantly quoted the Bible as they talked to their people. It is only in recent times that human secularists (people who deem themselves smarter and wiser than our Founding Fathers) have tried to push God out of our government. It is only in recent times that anti-God atheists have tried to mislead people into believing that the Lord of the Bible does not belong in any aspects of our government.)

I would love to run these secular miscreants out of the country. I would love to silence their arrogant, deceiving amoral or immoral mouths. Unfortunately I cannot. This is the problem we run into when freedom and liberty have no moral basis. If these miscreants are American citizens they have to right to live here; they have the right to freedom of speech; have the right to their own opinions; they even have the right to thrust their views on others. And as a result when we allow amoral, immoral and unprincipled people to live and rule in a country (that is supposed to be running on God’s moral absolutes) they will always end up doing what is right (i.e. self-pleasing and self-satisfying) in their own eyes.

(Remember, the Lord told us that people who live only to satisfy their own desires love the darkness rather than the Light. Simply being religious does not make one right in God’s eyes!)

The God of the Bible does not play a part in the decision making process of an amoral or immoral secularists. Amoral or immoral people see no problem with murdering a baby that is still in its mother’s womb so they will push for legalization of just that. Amoral or immoral people have no sense of biblical morality so they will want to legalize self-satisfying things like: drugs, fornication, adultery, homosexuality, lesbianism, gay marriage, underage sex, polygamy, pornography etc. etc. And it will only be a matter of time before it these immoral behaviors become legal. After all, if God’s Word is not going to be used as the litmus test for what is moral what will be used? There is nothing else to use but the feelings and opinions of a sinful people. And if we humans are left to decide what feels right or wrong we will never have moral absolutes. (P.S. Again, Jesus said that people who reject God (i.e. God’s ways) and instead live for themselves seek the darkness rather than the Light.)

As the people in a nation become more and more immoral, it is plain to even see today in America, that our country’s laws will also become more and more immoral. Today in America, there are biblically immoral things being done that are now legal.  These same immoral behaviors would have put a person in prison a hundred years ago! If we are not going to use the absolute moral truths of God’s Word as our gauge, then it will be soon be anything goes because people will soon say, “Who are we to judge the morals of another?” If we as a nation are not going to use the perfectly designed, engineered and authored Word of God to determine right from wrong then who or what will decide what is right from wrong? Again, without the hindsight and knowledge of God’s Word there is nothing to stop amoral and immoral people from passing laws which make the most wicked and vile things imaginable ‘legal.’

John Adams in a speech to the military in 1798 warned his fellow countrymen stating, “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion . . . Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

Those of us who are truly concerned about this nation must see and agree to repair not only America’s economic issues but also her moral issues. America the nation needs to repent of her tolerance of sin. The God of the Bible tells us that not only are things like: lying, cheating, stealing and greed wrong, but so are socially acceptable things like: adultery, casual and flippant divorces, fornication, witchcraft, mind altering drug abuse and drunkenness, etc. If those who are trying to re-establish this nation politically are not willing to publically and privately re-establish this nation biblically, they will fail—no matter how good or sincere their intentions.

“I am a real Christian – that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus Christ.”
The Writings of Thomas Jefferson, p. 385.

As I said before, this nation was not established out of a vacuum. This nation did not happen by accident. All true fundamental Christians believe that the hand of God played an incredible part in establishing America the Nation. And what was the reason God supernaturally intervened? The people trying to establish America were continually going to God in prayer as they sought His wisdom in establishing America’s rules and regulations. (Again, I am not going to debate the idea of how biblical and God-searching America’s Founding Fathers were. It is a ‘no-brainer’ historical fact. Research it yourself or keep your mouth shut!)

Patrick Henry
Ratifier of the U.S. Constitution

“It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.”
The Trumpet Voice of Freedom: Patrick Henry of Virginia, p. iii.

“The Bible … is a book worth more than all the other books that were ever printed.”
Sketches of the Life and Character of Patrick Henry, p. 402.

A Bible based godly peer pressure needs to be re-established once again in America. People need to understand the freedom and liberty without biblical morality leads hedonism! If sinful people are given absolute freedom and liberty without moral absolutes anarchy and moral depravity will eventually lead to not only the individual destruction of people but also to national destruction of that country. We once again need to have people in America see that acts like adultery, fornicators, casual divorce and unwed pregnancies are shameful things. I am afraid that a large percentage of conservative, God-fearing Americans really do not want to go back to using the Bible as America’s moral compass. (I hope I am wrong!) I know many fiscally conservative patriotic people and politicians want to ‘right the economic ship’ in America. My concern (as a constitutional Christian), is do these same people also want to ‘right’ America’s moral ship using the absolute morals of God’s Word? Or are they going to continue to tolerate the foolish secular psycho-babble doctrines and philosophies of sinful humanists?

This country needs to stop ‘encouraging’ and/or promoting pornography as a freedom of speech. It is destroying the moral fiber of our children! How spiritually stupid and spiritually blind have ‘we the people’ become when we ‘see’ pornography as an American freedom or as a right to free speech? True patriotic Americans needs to shout from the streets that liberty and freedom are demoralizing and destructive in a society where the moral absolutes of God’s Word are not only ignored but ‘legally’ stifled! Patriotic Americans need to re-establish the idea that it is no longer going to be socially acceptable to use illegal or mind-altering drugs (which would include casually using illegal drugs for ‘medical’ reasons) and prescription drugs as tools of pleasure. In the Bible the Lord uses words like witchcraft, sorcery and drug usage synonymously. America has become a society of dope-heads. There are very few families in America these days that have not seen the devastating effects of mind altering illegal or legal drugs.

More Americans need to understand the absolute absurdity in pushing God out of our country. Who would have ever thought that there would be a day in America when God would be pushed out of our country’s government arena? Do these anti-religious idiots really comprehend how stupid they look in the eyes of God? These anti-Bible Americans think that things like the Bible and God are a joke or fairy-tale. These secular fools actually believe they are smarter than the One who created them!

Jesus-picJesus Himself asked, “Why do you call Me Lord and not do as I say?”

We have a lot of people in America who go to some type of church/religious service without any desire to worship the God of the Bible. We have church/religious people ‘worshiping’ (in one form or another) everything animals, trees and even angels.  The Mythical ‘Mother Nature’ or ‘Mother Earth’ has replaced the one True Creator God of the universe. And yet we wonder why America is failing. The God of the Bible will not help those who chose to worship (false) pagan gods or secular ways. Our God is a jealous God. And He has the right to be. After all, He is the One who created all this. God demands that we serve Him or else there is a consequence!  God will never bless a nation (or a people) when they reject Him for the ways of mythical or secular philosophies.

American loving citizens need to see that America is in a fight for her very survival! This once God-loving, Bible-preaching country is going the way of other once great Christian nations which went secular—into moral and economic decay! The Bible says that the nation which fears God will prosper in all that it does. God promises to honor those societies or nations that honor His moral code. On the other hand, the same Bible says that the Lord laughs at those societies and/or nations which fall to ruin because they devised ways that were not God’s ways. The Bible says that God is not mocked. Whatever a person/society/nation sows it what it will reap.

Look at the moral mess we have in America today! The sacred God-given act of marriage between one man and one woman is no longer considered sacred but an option. America has become a society where a large percentage of Americans see nothing wrong with ripping a living baby out of its mother’s womb and throwing it in the garbage like a piece of rotten meat. This one, vile, disgusting legalized baby killing practice gives God enough reason to wipe America off the map! It used to be in this nation that any woman who was willing to have sex with whatever came along was called a whore or prostitute. Today, ‘sleeping around’ is not only acceptable is it promoted, pushed and glorified! We have over fifty types of sexually transmitted diseases being passed around these days. Immoral behaviors that were for many years hidden in the dark closets (by those who practiced them) are now not only tolerated they are publically encouraged in the name of freedom and liberty! These behaviors are a result of amoral and immoral freedoms and liberties in a country that once used God’s Word as its moral compass!

Thomas Jefferson said

“The only foundation for useful education in a republic is to be laid in religion.”

As President, Thomas Jefferson not only signed bills which appropriated financial support for chaplains in Congress and in the armed services, but he also signed the Articles of War, April 10, 1806, in which he:

“Earnestly recommended to all officers and soldiers, diligently to attend divine services.”

The bottom line is that if America the Nation continues to push the absolute morals of the one true God of the Bible out of its everyday governmental and everyday personal life practices, the Lord will leave us to our own demise.

Psalm 33:12 — Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…..

Our American Constitution and our Bill of Rights are amazing documents. However, they do not even come close to the incredibly perfect Word of God! A lot of very wise and intelligent human beings worked night and day for years to establish these amazing documents. However, these wonderfully crafted humanistic documents do not come close to the unfathomable depth of the writings of the Bible. And from what our Founding Fathers have clearly said, neither of these documents will survive if they are not controlled by the laws of God’s Word.  Man, even at the highest secular levels of intelligence do not come close to the wisdom of God.

John Adams
2nd U.S. President and Signer of the Declaration of Independence said

“Suppose a nation in some distant Region should take the Bible for their only law Book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God … What a Utopia, what a Paradise would this region be.”
Diary and Autobiography of John Adams, Vol. III, p. 9.

So again, freedom and liberty are wonderful blessings in any nation–when they are used in morally righteous ways. When people begin to use their freedoms and liberties to do whatever feels good or seems right in their own eyes (like same sex marriage) we will fall as a nation. And when ‘we the people’ begin to use our freedoms and liberties to sell, make or do whatever helps us to prosper financially (like legalized pornography) it will not be long before wickedness, corruption and debauchery will prevail in every part of that nation. Darkness and light cannot exist together. The Lord of the Bible tells us in Scriptures that because all humans are born sinful, with need the Lord’s guidance and wisdom in all that we do. When ‘we the people’ chose to walk away from the guidance and wisdom of the one who Created us–no matter how sincere we are and no matter how strong our convictions are about what we believe to be right and wrong we will walk in darkness. Americans, we need to walk back towards the Light! The ways of the All-Knowing, All-powerful Creator God of the universe are our only hope of survival.

We Need to Return to our Religious Roots – America Was Founded on Christian Values

I truly live by my twitter profile: I’m the Anti-BIG-Government, Gun-slinging, God-Loving, Bible-Toting, Conservative, Christian,YOUR LIBERAL-MOMMA warned you about! LIBTARDS STAY AWAY!  We learned what Vice President Biden thinks about the Tea Party Republicans.

At a meeting with House Democrats on Monday, Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Pa., reportedly told Biden that “the Tea Party acted like terrorists in threatening to blow up the economy.” The phrase was allegedly used several times. Several sources told website Politico that the Vice President responded, “they have acted like terrorists.”

So now I am a “Christian, Conservative, Tea Party Supporting, Terrorist?”  That is fine if you want to include me into a group such as the Tea Party – I am “Taxed Enough Already.” But I wonder what organization I am linked too, since I am a Christian, and a Conservative and a Tea Party Supporter. I am three for three at being one of this administration’s worst nightmares. They have awakened We The People and We are not racist – not violent – We are however just no longer silent.

Some would like you to believe that this nation’s founding fathers weren’t particularly religious men and were especially not Christian. America was founded on Christian values, by many who were of the Christian religion. Of The 56 who signed the Declaration of Independence, most of these signers were Christian. When one considers the backgrounds of these men, it becomes obvious the truth about the religious roots of our founding fathers. I’m not going to look into the backgrounds of all these men but I will a few of them.

  • Witherspoon, John (1723-1794), was an ordained minister of the Gospel. He published several books of Gospel sermons and played major roles in two American editions of the Bible, including one from 1791 that is considered America’s first family Bible.
  • Charles Thomson(1729-1824), was the Secretary of Congress, and he and John Hancock were the only two to sign the first draft of the Declaration of Independence. Thomson is another founder responsible for an American edition of the Bible. That Bible called – Thomson’s Bible – was the first translation of the Greek Septuagint into English. It took Thomson 25 years to complete his translation, but even today that work is still considered one of the more scholarly American translations of the Bible.
  • Benjamin Rush (1746-1813), Many of the founding fathers rated Benjamin Rush right along side George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. He started America’s first Bible society, the Bible society of Philadelphia. Dr. Rush pointed out that with a Bible, every individual could discover how to have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ; secondly he argued that if every one owned a Bible – and would study and obey it – that all of our social problems including crime, slavery, etc., would diminish.
  • Charles Carroll (1737-1832), died in 1832 at the age of 95, the last of the 56 signers. On his 89th birthday he declared, On the mercy of my Redeemer I rely for salvation, and on his merits; not on the works I have done in obedience to his precepts. Carroll also personally funded a Christian house of worship.
  • Richard Stockton (1730-1781), captured by the British and later released, a dying Richard Stockton penned his last will and testament to his children, which became a living testimony to his faith in God. He extolled the greatness of God and his divinity and the completeness of the redemption purchased by Jesus Christ. He encouraged his children to a habitual virtuous life, living by faith. He charged his children to exhibit the fear of God, which he viewed as the beginning of wisdom, and that all occasions of vice and immorality is injurious either immediately or consequently – even in this life.
  • Francis Hopkinson (1737-1791), was a church music director, a choir leader, and editor of one of the first hymnals printed in America. He set all 150 psalms to music.
  • John Hancock (1737-1793), whose large signature on the Declaration of Independence is now a byword for fidelity, loyalty, courage and commitment. Hancock served as a president of congress during the Revolution and later as governor of Massachusetts. As governor on October 15, 1791, Hancock issued a proclamation for prayer asking especially that universal happiness may be established in the world; and that all may bow to the scepter of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the whole world be filled with his glory. Hancock also issued other proclamations to honor God.
  • Samuel Adams  (1722 – 1803), has been called the father of the American Revolution. As governor of Massachusetts, he also issued strong proclamations one of which closed with a request to pray that the peaceful and glorious reign of our divine redeemer may be known and enjoyed throughout the whole family of mankind. Adams often repeated such request as in 1797 which asked that the people pray for speedily bringing on that holy and happy period when the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be everywhere established and all the people willingly bow to the scepter of him who is the Prince of Peace.
  • George Washington (1732-1799), though not one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence was the military commander and chief during the Revolutionary war. When Great Britain signed the peace treaty ending the Revolutionary war General Washington immediately resigned his commission to return to private life. He then sent a letter to the governors of the 13 states informing them of his resignation closing the letter with a prayer for the states and governors.

“I now make it my earnest prayer that God would have you and the state over which you preside in his holy protection, that he would incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to the government to entertain a brotherly affection and a love for one another, for their fellow citizens of the United States at large and particularly for their brethren who have served in the field, and finally that he would most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy and to demean ourselves with that character, humility, and peaceful temper of the mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion without an humble imitation of whose example  in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation.”

In closing I want to say this country is in trouble, financially, and with the economy like it is, our “leader” is not a leader of anything – we need to pray for our country. He has proven that beyond a doubt, that not everyone is cut out to be the leader of the greatest nation of this entire world. We need to carefully study who our next president will be. Because if we end up with Obama, or one just like Obama we will be done.

New Book on Radical Islam Declares: ‘This Is the War of Our Generation!’

Dr. Jim Denison Explains to Westerners ‘Why Muslims Still Hate Us, What We Can Do’

DALLAS, July 26, 2011 — On the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, author and educator Jim Denison explains in his new book, “Radical Islam: What You Need to Know,” that the greatest threat our children have ever faced is Muslim extremism. “The battle waged against the West by radical Muslims is the war of our generation,” Denison says. “Killing bin Laden doesn’t end this war.”

James C. Denison, Ph.D., is a cultural apologist, building a bridge between faith and culture by engaging contemporary issues with historical, scientific and biblical truth. He founded the Denison Forum on Truth and Culture (DFTC) in February 2009 and writes for “The Dallas Morning News,” contributing weekly to the “Texas Faith Forum.” He currently serves on the board of the Baylor Health Care System and as chair of the advisory board for Dallas Baptist University. Denison is former senior pastor of Park Cities Baptist Church, a 10,000-member congregation in Dallas.

Dr. Denison’s daily cultural commentary is made available around the world to thousands of subscribers. It offers a faith perspective on topics as varied as medical ethics, the 2012 election, the Casey Anthony trial, gay marriage and many more topics.

“The events of 9/11 are still painfully raw for many,” said Dr. Abraham Sarker, former Muslim and founder and president, Gospel for Muslims, who has worked alongside Denison in his native Bangladesh. “Ten years later, questions remain about the world’s fastest-growing religion and the worldview of its 1.6 billion adherents. Jim Denison’s book provides a timely, insightful interpretation of this movement in our times. His understanding of radical Islam is accurate and balanced. His intellectual brilliance and excellent communication skills engage and support readers in navigating these complex issues.”

“Radical Islam” begins with a look at Osama bin Laden, the Al Qaeda leader killed in May in a U.S. Special Forces raid in Pakistan, and examines the ramifications of bin Laden’s death, including whether it was just. The book goes on to explain what distinguishes radical Islam from the rest of the Muslim world, then addresses basic questions: “Where was God on 9/11?” and “How Do We Win This War?”

“It’s been my privilege to know and befriend Muslims from six continents through respectful dialogue over the past 30 years,” said Denison. “But the fact remains that the threat of radical Islam is even more real and dangerous than it was 10 years ago. Osama bin Laden is dead, but his story isn’t over. His followers are more resolved than ever.

“This book is a primer that tells Westerners what they need to know about this threat, why radical Muslims still hate us and what we can do about it.”

Denison briefly touches on basic Muslim beliefs before focusing on the two tenets that distinguish radical Islam. First, extremists contend the West has been attacking Islam since the Crusades, and therefore Islam must be defended through violent attacks. Second, radical Muslims believe all Westerners are complicit in the ongoing siege of Islam because of their participation in a democratic society, and therefore in terrorist attacks on the West there are no innocent victims.

Faced with this worldview, Denison writes, both Christians and secular Westerners must act. He offers practical ideas on how to handle the threat, including praying for Muslims and supporting Christians from Muslim backgrounds.

“Radical Islam” will be available in August as a trade paperback for $13.99 and distributed by Wescott Marketing. It also will be available as an e-book Aug. 15 through all major e-book sales sites.

The first chapter, which explores bin Laden’s life and whether his death was just, along with an opportunity to subscribe to Dr. Denison’s daily cultural commentary, are available at http://www.dftc.co/presskit.

“Radical Islam” is the first in the “Unlocking the Truth” series of books offering a spiritual perspective on key cultural issues facing America. Denison is also the author of six books, including the most recent, “Wrestling with God: How Can I Love a God I’m Not Sure I Can Trust?” by Tyndale House Publishers.

The Denison Forum on Truth and Culture (DFTC) (http://www.denisonforum.org) exists to engage contemporary culture with moral truth. Founded by Dr. Jim Denison in 2009, the Forum responds to issues through a variety of communications and channels, including a column in “The Dallas Morning News,” daily online cultural commentary, Baylor Health Care System board membership, books, articles and speaking engagements.

Christian Ministry Leaves “Christ” Behind

After sixty years of ministry, one of the most recognized Christian ministries is dropping Christ from their name.

Campus Crusade for Christ International announced that it will change the name of its U.S. Operations to “Cru” early next year.

Steve Sellers, the vice president for Campus Crusade for Christ, said:

“We felt like our name was getting in the way of accomplishing our mission.”

He added that the ministry will still be committed to “proclaiming Christ around the world.”

According to Mr. Sellers, researchers found that 9 percent of Christians and 20 percent of non-Christians were alienated by the name Campus Crusade for Christ.

In 1951, Bill and Vonette Bright founded the organization which has grown to a staff of 25,000 members in 191 countries. Bill Bright died in 2003, but Mrs. Bright posted a video online giving her support of the name change.

Mr. Sellers stated:

“When Bill Bright started the organization, he told his wife that someday they would have to change the name. As early as the late ’70s and ’80s he was looking at making the name change.”

Mr. Sellers said there are several reasons for the name change, one of which is overseas sensitivities, specifically to the word “crusade”

“Our name was becoming more and more of a hindrance. It’s reverted back to some of its meaning related to the Middle Ages – forcing Christianity on different parts of the world.”

That addresses one part of the name change, but what about the part where they remove the name of Christ from the organization name? The Campus Crusade for Christ website states:

“We were not trying to eliminate the word Christ from our name. We were looking for a name that would most effectively serve our mission and help us take the gospel to the world. Our mission has not changed. Cru enables us to have discussions about Christ with people who might initially be turned off by a more overtly Christian name. We believe that our interaction and our communication with the world will be what ultimately honors and glorifies Christ.”

But that decision has not set well with many evangelical Christians. Many Christians are standing up and voicing their disgust with the organization for giving in to political correctness.

But Mr. Sellers defends the removal of Christ’s name from the organizations name, and denied that they are giving in to political correctness, saying:

“It has nothing to do with political correctness.  It has everything to do with how we can be effective at what God has called us to do. Most churches don’t have Christ in their name. Hardly any other Christian organization has Christ in their name. People are making an issue out of something that isn’t the intent at all.”

He added that it is “more important that the organization is effective at proclaiming Jesus than it is important to have the name of Jesus in the name of the organization.”

He also emphasized the fact that the mission of the organization has not changed, saying:

“We are an evangelistic organization that is committed and has been committed and will be committed to proclaiming Christ around the world.”

Cru, the new name of the organization, has been a nickname for the organization on university campuses. Sellers said of this:

“Much like lots of brand names they don’t necessarily have meaning in and of themselves. It is a name we intend to give meaning so that when people hear it they know that it’s a caring group of Christians who are passionate about lifting up the name of Jesus.”

The Bible states things a bit differently.

Matthew 10:33 says:

“…but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.”

Mr. Sellers may be fooling himself, but he is not fooling God, nor anyone else who stands on the Word of God. Jesus made it very clear- if you deny me, I will deny you! A “caring group of Christians who are passionate about lifting up the name of Jesus” is what Mr. Sellers intends to portray with the new name, but the organization has taken out the name of the person he is supposedly passionate about lifting up.

2 Timothy 2:12 says,

“if we endure, we shall also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us.”

Mr. Sellers and the organization would not endure. They gave in to political correctness whether they want to admit it or not.

Luke 21:17 says:

“You will be hated by all for my name’s sake.”

God specifically tells us that we will be hated for proclaiming His name. It is very doubtful He will accept the explanation of Mr. Sellers and the organization. If Mr. Sellers is correct, and Mr. Bright “knew” that one day they would have to change the name of the organization, many questions come to mind about the true mission of the organization. Do they now, and did Mr. Bright just want to be accepted by the world? If the mission of the organization is “proclaiming Christ around the world”, taking the name of Christ out of the organization is an oxy-moron.

Mr. Sellers said:

Cru enables us to have discussions about Christ with people who might initially be turned off by a more overtly Christian name.

If someone is “turned off” by the name of Christ, the name Cru is not going to magically open their eyes to the grace and love of Christ. This explanation is an obvious attempt to appease, but does nothing more than show the true intent behind the name change. In Mr. Seller’s own words:

“Our name was becoming more and more of a hindrance.”

In Mr. Seller’s explanation, he says that the name “Crusade” reminds people of the Middle Ages when people were forced into the practices of Christianity. If that were true, they would have kept the name of Christ, and only dropped “Crusade” from the name.

Mr. Sellers said:

“We believe that our interaction and our communication with the world will be what ultimately honors and glorifies Christ.”

The question that should be asked of Mr. Sellers is how can you glorify and honor Christ when you take His name out of your work?
