Eric Holder – carrying guns should be like smoking

Before anyone gets really excited, no, Eric Holder didn’t make this comparison recently. This is a blast from the past, found by Breitbart contributor Charles Johnson, and it dates back to 1995:

Wow! So weird seeing Holder with more hair – and no grays!

Anyway, it’s always fun to look at aging political animals when they were younger, and more idealistic – and silly. How in the world could Holder have believed that an ad campaign would be effective in discouraging urban teens from getting involved in gun violence? Even then, it seems that Holder had lost touch with reality, and couldn’t comprehend that one could not compare the status symbol of having a weapon with a simple vice like smoking. It is mind-boggling. And it makes it clear that his current way of thinking is at least deeply rooted. Too bad he didn’t carry that “gun-toting is a vice” attitude with him to the Office of the Attorney General, and too bad he didn’t apply it when it came to drug cartels in Mexico.

Obama Media Worm Turns on Woodward

Miller Center (CC)

Miller Center (CC)

The name Bob Woodward has been synonymous with investigative journalism for the vast majority of my lifetime. By the time I started getting my feet wet in that world, his words had been used for years by Journalism professors across the country – including my own. And I had assumed that he would enjoy privileged status until his full retirement, or death. But, the Obama administration has brought that into question.

Yes, I am a conservative that is suggesting that a liberal journalist should be left alone by this administration, because he was simply doing the same job he’s been doing. True, Woodward may have implied some degree of similarities between this presidency, and that of Nixon (if the shoe fits?), but that is no reason to start running about making threats against members of the media. That is another important point, since Woodward is by no means the only target of the Obama Administration, and Lanny Davis, former Clinton White House Counsel, explains that to the hosts on WMAL below.

While it might be tempting to take some degree of amusement in this latest round of nonsense among the liberal members of the media, that probably isn’t the best idea, especially given what Davis implies in that interview – that this administration is not above throwing around threats of withdrawing White House press credentials from journalists that annoy them. Sure, it could be interesting to watch John Nolte’s running list of liberal journalists that take the administration’s side against Woodward over on Breitbart.com. Personally, I think he’s being very generous in putting many of those people in the “remotely close to objective” category, but that’s just me. All of this nonsense is just that. I’m paying more attention to what isn’t making the headlines – the handful of journalists I know personally that have privately, or only semi-publicly stated that they have also received similar threats from this administration. That points out that there is a disturbing trend building here. And that makes Nolte’s list less than compelling, since it’s not insane to assume that those journalists know better than most about any blacklisting, or other harassment this administration has already meted out to “misbehaving” journalists. So, yes, I’ll keep track of that list, but not to see who’s a traitor against his own kind – I want to know who knows, or suspects how far this administration will go to silence its opposition in the media. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I think that’s more important than a hundred Woodwards.

Newtown, Connecticut Shooting as Example of MSM Failure

It happens. There is a tragedy, and the press leaps into action. Reporters run about trying to pull together information on the perpetrators of whatever crime has occurred, aren’t necessarily thorough in their haste to get the scoop, and then some details turn out to be dead wrong.

Yes, this is a conservative site, and that was a Fox News clip, but it wasn’t posted here because of political leanings. It was posted because Fox News was the one network that at least hesitated throughout the day from jumping on each new theory as it came out. They did run with the false assessment that Ryan Lanza was the shooter, but only after at least CBS and someone else had done the same. And this problem of insufficient fact-checking, and desperation to beat everyone else to the punch was clearly illustrated on Facebook by Mandy Nagy (Liberty Chick) from Breitbart.com. I couldn’t have put it better when she pointed out that if the explosion of garbage on social media was the way the brother of the shooter found out about the deaths of his family members, that is despicable.

And before the dust has settled at all, and before the crime scene has even been examined in earnest by investigators, the Democrats are already marshaling their troops in their incessant battle against the Second Amendment. It doesn’t matter that logic should tell them that gun laws will not prevent criminals or the criminally insane from acquiring weapons to commit crimes like this. Illinois Congressman Bobby Rush offered this in a statement today:

Lawmakers, local, state and national, can no longer be held hostage by those who are opposed to reasonable gun control laws. It is time for lawmakers to come out of hiding and to have the courage to face these issues. We must act on all fronts, social, economic, educational to answer the complex questions raised by today’s events. We must face, without shame, the issues of domestic violence and mental health that are no doubt a part of today’s events.

Perhaps the only correct part of that statement was the fact that this tragedy probably did have something to do with both domestic violence, and mental health. As for what Rush’s definition of “reasonable gun control laws” is, there is little doubt it has something to do with removing the ability for the vast majority of law-abiding citizens to acquire firearms at all in the first place. As conservatives, we know that will lead to radically increased gun violence, not the opposite that liberals regularly claim.

But, it is not time for us to speak of politics, no matter how tempting it may be. I made the observation earlier today that at least on Twitter, conservatives were praying, while leftists were conspiring to use this tragedy for their own political agenda. While I personally don’t pray, I do prefer to be associated with those that do in this situation. This is not the time or place for politics. It is time to mourn, comfort others, and heal.

MSM’s Love Affair with Obama Cooling Down

It’s true that the Mainstream Media has been madly in love with Obama since he came on the scene as a Presidential contender. But, over the past month or so, it’s been cooling down from a plot-free “XXX” sex-fest, to around an R-rated movie. Still a little hot and heavy, but at least that’s an improvement.

One could argue that Jake Tapper started it, at least by grilling Jay Carney over the Benghazi attacks just a couple weeks ago. There were at least a few conservatives out in the twitterverse that got excited about that little dance. Even if it took a while for others to start joining in, the “maybe we really do need to question Obama” itch has been spreading slowly through the ranks of generally liberal journalists that have been protecting the President every chance they get.

CNN stepped up and questioned Obama’s second-term plan yesterday. Of course, the item in question begged for it, since it was just a fancy re-hashing of all the old Obama plans that haven’t worked. Not to be outdone, NBC’s Brian Williams managed to point out the lackluster numbers of crowds showing up for Obama events. Surprisingly, Williams even implied it might have something to do with the economy not doing as well as people would like.

From the print world, the Des Moines Register got the last laugh after the dust-up over an “off-the-record” interview with Obama. They gave the President the proverbial raspberries by putting his grumpy face picture on the front page next to a smiling Romney. Who said print journalism was dead?

Finally, CBS’s “60 Minutes” came clean about some deleted footage that shows the White House had lied about Benghazi. Of course it’s Twitchy.com and Breitbart.com pointing out these misadventures in journalism, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are happening. For those that were questioning whether or not the attack on Benghazi would make a difference in this election, this might be a major indication that it has. It at least threw a healthy glass of ice water on those lovers – the MSM and Obama.

Breitbart.com Shifts the Narrative…Again.

Breibart.com officially began the first phase of their #VetThePrez campaign on the Sean Hannity show Wednesday night. Ben Shapiro and Joel Pollak sat down with Hannity to discuss the release of video showing a young Mr. Obama introducing and embracing controversial Harvard Professor Derrick Bell. Bell is often looked upon as the father of Critical Race Theory, an ideology closely connected to Black Liberation Theory and Marxism.

The chatter on the importance of this revelation has been up and down the spectrum.  Some conservatives see it as a great start to what is surely a larger plan by the Breitbart team.  Others were disappointed that there wasn’t more of a “smoking gun”. I think it was an enormous starting victory in the effort to expose the President’s evolution into who he is today, a complicit media and take control of the narrative surrounding this President…finally. They struck a very heavy body blow. For conservatives none of the information is particularly surprising or moving. However, for a liberal media and electorate who have not regularly discussed Obama’s past, this touches a nerve. How do I know? The dinosaur media is already imploding over this and the race card was thrown on the table almost immediately-a tactic they usually reserve for the final desperate throes of a losing argument. Don’t believe me? Then behold the ensuing media implosion for yourself. If it were a nonissue then that’s exactly how they would be treating it. Watch these videos and then ask yourself if you still believe this is a non-issue. I want to hear from you too on this, so please be sure to leave your comments and opinions below.

The media won this last round with the birth control issue. This is round two in this latest battle and so far it goes to Breitbart. Looks like war, folks. Get yer marchin’ boots on!

And then there’s poor Soledad O’Brien, who almost pops a blood vessel defending this “non-issue”:

And just for fun, let’s watch Michelle Malkin eviscerate Juan Williams over the “non-issue” on Hannity.
