Romney’s Foreign Policy Speech

Mitt Romney spoke today at the Virginia Military Institute. In a strong foreign policy speech the GOP candidate reminds citizens that current president Obama has been passive in the Middle East. Quoting a Syrian woman speaking about the Obama administration, “We will not forget that you forgot us,” Romney says it’s time to change course in the region.

Romney’s vision includes strengthening our military and championing free trade working with nations around the world who are committed to free enterprise and helping those who share our values.

Netanyahu and the Battle of Style Over Substance

benjaminnetanyahu

As usual, the mainstream media is not paying attention to the actual substance of a story, opting for focusing on the style in which it was delivered. When Benjamin Netanyahu said that the world needs to draw a red line between two levels of nuclear material development in Iran, it was deadly serious business. In all honesty, the line should have been drawn months ago, and Iran shouldn’t have been permitted to enter into the second stage of nuclear weapon development. But, that is a hypothetical debate that serves absolutely no purpose at this point.

IsraelinUSA (CC)

What does matter is that while the press, including FoxNews, is running around babbling about the cartoon-style bomb Netanyahu used to illustrate his point on the floor of the UN, the real issue is being ignored. It is highly unlikely that diplomacy will hold the solution to the Iranian nuclear problem. That is being kind, in that I’m suggesting that diplomacy has any chance whatsoever at this point. The reality is that by this time next year, unless there is some major change in the status quo, Iran will have a working nuclear weapon for use against Israel, the U.S., or anyone else that happens to anger their leaders at any given time. I am not engaging in exaggerations here. Netanyahu was absolutely correct when he pointed out that the “mutually assured destruction” that prevented nuclear war with the Soviets will not work with the Iranians. They prize death, and look forward to paradise in a hereafter if they are martyred for their cause – they want to die. And no matter how much Obama and his supporters would like to deny it, our president is fully aware of that because he was exposed to that mentality at an early age.

Yes, I am pointing out what should be repeated time and again when it comes to foreign policy decisions made by this administration. Obama was raised to be a Muslim, for at least part of his childhood. I am not saying anything about radical Islam here, but I am saying that we have to stop allowing this president to have a pass for being incompetent on these issues. As Netanyahu was pointing out the dangers of radical Islam, Obama was claiming that this world has no place for individuals that insult Mohammed.

Now, we can debate out the finer points of Obama’s love affair with Islam all we like, but at this point, it can be likened to Nero celebrating while Rome burned. The fact is that Netanyahu’s suggestion for dealing with Iran probably will not work at this point. It is unlikely that anyone will find anything short of military action that will induce that nation to stop the production of nuclear material. But, Netanyahu was absolutely right about one thing – a nuclear-armed Iran is no different from a nuclear-armed al-Qaeda. So, the question for everyone now is, do we keep babbling about cartoon bombs, or do we start talking seriously about preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon? We’re sitting in an interesting time, when social media makes it possible for the people to speak directly to leaders, media, etc. The media has essentially stopped playing watchdog over our government, and there has been talk of boycotts against advertisers, and other things like that. Maybe instead of boycotting businesses, we need to start telling the media what we really think – by contacting them directly via social media, and by getting the message across through the television ratings. Advertisers will leave when there isn’t an audience, after all. So, maybe start with this one issue. Take a moment, and tell your favorite (or least favorite) mainstream media personality that you want real news on Iran, and not fluff about cartoon drawings. And pass it on.

They said NO to God!

September 5th 2012, at the Democratic National Convention, and in light of the recent controversy over the removal of the word God and language that did not support Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.  That evening before the start of the convention, there was a proposed amendment that was put to vote by the delegation which would re-instate the word God, and fix the language that supported Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.  Later on that evening of September 5th 2012, Bret Baier from Fox News’ Special Report, tried to get an answer from Senator Dick Durbin.  During the interview Senator Durbin, unable to completely answer the question of why God was absent from the party’s platform, and that it did not use strong language showing complete support of Jerusalem as being the capital of Israel.  Repeatedly Bret Baier pressed the question of why was the word God removed the party’s platform, Senator Durbin still, unable to answer Bret Baier, possibly because he did not know, or did not want to admit why God and Jerusalem were absent from such an important party document.

Now Allen West, has come out with an extremely strong video showing the Democratic National Convention party platform debacle.  This video blatantly shows how the majority of the democratic delegates did NOT want to change the language that would add God and Jerusalem back into the party’s platform.  After asking the delegates three times, the amendment was approved over the will of the delegates.  Watch how UN-democratically the amendment was adopted by the ruling party of the convention.

See it for yourself.

2012 DNC Platform and Israel

From Daniel Harper at The Weekly Standard:

An Obama campaign official confirmed to THE WEEKLY STANDARD that President Obama “personally” intervened to alter the Democratic platform to include a reference to Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The new platform, adopted this evening at the Democratic convention in Charlotte, now includes pro-Israel language that the previous document did not.

The president did want to make clear what his personal beliefs were because they were not in the original platform,” the campaign official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

The new language reads, “Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.”

However, while the new Democratic platform apparently now reflects the “personal beliefs” of President Obama, it is now at odds with Obama administration policy.

In July, when White House spokesman Jay Carney was asked to name the capital of Israel, he refused to do so. Acknowledging that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, the Obama administration insists, would pre-judge one of the “final status issues” in the peace process.

The campaign official acknowledged this discrepancy. “The president has a personal view, but the president and the administration’s view as a matter of policy is ultimately that Jerusalem is a final status issue,” said the official.

She elaborated, “It doesn’t make sense for a U.S. a president impose his personal beliefs in a policy context. … But it’s important for him to make clear where he stands on these issues.”

So while Obama personally believes Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, his administration will not say so.

The official insisted, however, that it is commonplace for presidents to hold conflicting personal and policy views on the Israeli-Palestinian dispute, citing Presidents George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan as examples.

But let us not forget what President Obama said last year concerning the borders of Israel.

From the National Journal:

“The borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states,” Obama said. “The Palestinian people must have the right to govern themselves, and reach their potential, in a sovereign and contiguous state.”

President Barack Obama

What’s the Future of the Middle East?

For those who support the institutionalized “progressive” left’s or Ron Paul’s positions on foreign policy, consider these perspectives expressed in an article posted August 24, 2012 on pravda.ru:

“With the beginning of the Islamic awakening movement in the Middle East, the United States and its allies in the region, fearing the increasing waves of anti-American and anti-Zionist sentiments, tried to insinuate to the world a false interpretation of this movement…

The Zionist regime of Israel has the world’s largest network of state terrorism and has committed numerous crimes in the countries of the region, including the killing of the people of Gaza, the assassinations of resistance forces in different countries and assassinations of nuclear scientists of the Islamic Republic of Iran…

The West is forced to revise its policy of unilateral and unfair support to the Zionist regime. They are well aware that the popular uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa began thanks to Islamic awakening and they have an anti-Zionist character. This region will never reflect Zionist domination in the future…

Today, with the removal of the ruling dictators in some countries in the region that were in legion with the Zionist regime, the people of the region are screaming that the installation of the Zionist regime has no legitimacy on Palestinian territory, even if it is the size of the palm of the hand…

Now, an historic opportunity has arrived, the sovereigns in the world should take advantage and set history in the right direction, take away the invader of the scene and return the homeland to the Palestinians”

These proclamations made by an Iranian ambassador make crystal clear the intentions of the Islamist/Fascist Iranian regime and their allies towards Israel, the United States and Western Civilization.  To knowingly and willfully ignore this clarion call to defend the Western/Judeo/Christian world approaches sedition, especially in light of the fact that this statement was published by Russia’s Pravda, almost certainly with the approval of President Vladimir Putin’s Russian government.

When Ron Paul believes that Mutual Assured Destruction will deter Iran from attacking Israel and its western allies, he displays naïveté to the differences between the Communist atheist belief that there is no afterlife and it is in their best interests to avoid the termination of their worldly existence in a nuclear exchange, and an Islamist/Fascist State that reverently believe in the Mahdi, the 12th Imam of Shi’ite lore, and therefore considers it preferable to die as martyrs than to share the planet with the Western/Judeo/Christian world.

It was disturbing enough when the current White House occupant stabbed former Soviet bloc countries turned American allies Poland and the Czech Republic in their backs when he unilaterally cancelled missile defense shield deals they had made with the previous administration.  That occupy Oval Office was also so eager to abandon national security in favor of nuclear disarmament that he would voluntarily declassify the number of nuclear warheads the U.S. possesses demonstrates a dereliction of duty on his part as Commander in Chief of the United States of America.

Mitt Romney recently outlined plans that will make America energy independent through development of its own abundant natural resources and less susceptible to an increasingly aggressive Iran’s impact on Middle East petroleum delivered through the Straits of Hormuz.

Romney has consistently condemned Iran for developing a nuclear bomb-capability.  When referring to Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s statements against Israel Romney has said “There is one place of course where I’d welcome Ahmadinejad with open arms, and that’s in a court where he would stand trial for incitement to genocide, under the terms of the Genocide Convention.”

Romney also correctly identifies the threat posed to the west by Islamist/Fascist jihad as “the defining challenge of our generation.”

Contrary to the opinion of Ali Mohaghegh, the future of the Middle East is not carved in stone, it is still being written.  How the next chapter reads depends largely on who is elected as the next President of the United States.

Jewish versus “Palestinian Culture”

jerusalem

Stop the presses… the “Palestinians” are whining again. They’ve been insulted. Mitt Romney, while in Israel, said that the “Jewish culture” has made Israel successful. The “Palestinians” find this to be a racist comment.

Of course they also thought that taking a moment of silence during the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games to remember the eleven murdered Israelis during the 1972 Munich Olympics was “racist” as well – I assume that’s because they were the murderers… and murdering Jews simply because of their religion might identify the “Palestinians” as the real racists and they didn’t really want that made public on the world stage.

Then again, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) obliged them – rather than pointing out to the world the hypocrisy of the “Palestinians” as well as the Muslim world who had threatened to boycott the Games.

Romney did the right thing and did not appease the “Palestinians” by pretending that their “culture” is equal to the “Jewish culture”. To begin with, Jews believe in the sanctity of life. The “Palestinians” clearly do not. Hey, hey, how many buses have you bombed today? – comes to mind. Jews have a strong focus on education and taking care of the next generation. The “Palestinians” clearly do not. Summer camps named after so-called martyrs that teach kids how to to shoot machine guns and blow themselves up do not constitute being “educational”. Surprisingly enough, neither are school textbooks that portray Christians and Jews as pigs, dogs and monkeys. Children’s television programming with children singing about “jihad” and “martyrdom” wouldn’t fall under “educational” either.

One has to wonder about the “Palestinian culture” of which they are so proud.

To show support for the Jewish culture which has contributed to Western Civilization as a whole and to the world community through amazing medical, technological and other breakthroughs (Nobel Prize winners) doesn’t require a person to be a rocket scientist, but it does require honesty and, it seems, a little bit of backbone. It’s nice to finally see these traits in a presidential candidate. It’s about time.

A Moment of Silence for Jews? You Must be Joking

It’s now 40 years since the 1972 Olympics. 40 years since the Munich massacre funded by now-Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas. 40 years since the Games amazingly continued after 11 of the Israeli delegation were murdered.

Two widows of the murdered athletes have requested from the Olympic committee for a moment of silence during the Olympic opening ceremonies Friday night. Their request for a public moment has been rejected.

In contrast to the Munich massacre being broadcast around the world at the time, this week the Olympic committee held a small, private ceremony to remember the Israeli athletes. I assume not to offend anyone, especially not the Muslims that have come to the Olympics to be part of a peaceful, worldwide celebration of mutual respect and competition. And certainly not to offend the “Palestinian” delegation, whose murderous president has yet to be brought to brought to justice.

Even better was the letter written by the Palestinian Olympic Committee to the International Olympic Committee:

Sports are a bridge for love, communication and the spreading of peace between nations and should not be used for divisiveness and the spread of racism.

Why should we be surprised by the “Palestinian” or Olympic reaction to the request for a moment of silence? The “Palestinians” continue to advocate violence against Jews, naming roads and parks after so-called martyrs. President/murderer Mahmoud Abbas denies the Holocaust and the Jewish history in the Land of Israel.

While we know the “Palestinians” are calling for the murder of Jews, we always seem to hold out hope for the international community for some reason. We hope that the Olympic Games and the high standards of ‘brotherhood and community’ ring true. But why do we bother? The “Palestinians” were first allowed to compete in the Olympics in 1996, only 24 years after the massacre. Jewish blood is cheap. Why not let them compete alongside the same people that were murdered? Sure, why not.

Was Yasser Arafat Murdered? Who Cares.

The news world is all abuzz with the possibility that “Palestinian” leader Yasser Arafat was murdered.

The big story was broken by the most “trustworthy” of sources… al-Jazeera, a news network sometimes known for its terrorist ties.

Al-Jazeera’s investigation into Arafat’s death has revealed that his clothing has traces of the radioactive material polonium-210, suggesting that radioactive poisoning led to his death. Now the questions are flying… how could this happen? Who could be responsible for his death?

I have my own questions.

1. Why did al-Jazeera decide now, eight years after Arafat’s death, to test his clothing?

2. If Arafat was truly murdered – who really cares? Aren’t terrorists supposed to be targeted and killed?

Yasser Arafat created the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in 1964. Three years before the Israeli “occupation” of Judea/Samaria (West Bank) and the Gaza Strip. If the PLO was formed three years in advance of the occupation – where was this ‘Palestine’ that he was hoping to liberate?

That would obviously be the State of Israel – Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem (the western half), Be’er Sheba included. The map of Israel is included in the PLO emblem, not just the “occupied” parts, answering our question. Of course, Jordan, the eastern half of Palestine under the British Mandate was ignored. Only the Jewish presence in the Land needed to be murdered and expelled.

Yasser Arafat was a murderer of Americans as well as Israelis. Unarmed men, women and children were targets of this “liberation” movement. School buses were deemed legitimate targets. Olympics athletes as well.

In later years, Arafat supposedly became a man of “peace” – but one who spoke of war in Arabic to his brothers, and of peace to the Western media.

Yasser Arafat was a murderer, plain and simple, of hundreds of innocents. Whether or not he was targeted doesn’t much matter. The only question that matters now is why he wasn’t killed sooner.

Egyptian Supreme Court Wants Parliament Dissolved

Outrage was sparked in Egypt Thursday when that country’s Supreme Court ruled that the recent parliamentary election was unconstitutional. That decision led to emergency meetings of the ruling military council. In response, the country’s interim military rulers declared full legislative authority.

Supreme Court head Farouk Soltan said: “The ruling regarding parliament includes the dissolution of the Lower House of parliament in its entirety because the law upon which the elections were held is contrary to rules of the constitution.”

Meanwhile the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party, who won 46% of the vote, said the ruling would take Egypt into a “dark tunnel”.

Freedom and Justice Party and Salafist Al-Nur Party critics who said it would leave the next incoming president without either a parliament or a constitution, describing the ruling as a “complete coup” and “a complete disregard for the free will of the voters”.

The Supreme Court also decided in a separate ruling that former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq could run for president in the June 16-17 election, rejecting a law that would have kept him from competing against the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohammed Mursi in a run-off election. Ahmed Shafiq was Egypt’s last Prime Minister under ousted President Hosni Mubarak. Some in Egypt have called for the disqualification of Shafiq because he is a “remnant of the old guard”.

The makeup of Egypt’s government is crucial to future peace in the Middle East. Should the Muslim Brotherhood take power in Egypt it will then be in position to put its long held hostility towards Israel into motion. The Brotherhood is dedicated to establishing an Islamic state in Egypt. Islamic law has no room for either democratic principles or religious freedoms. It uses violence against dissenters and tramples the rights of minorities and women. The Brotherhood is, in its own words, dedicated to “eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within”. They were early critics of the Egypt Israeli peace treaty and have long been held responsible for the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, who signed the treaty in 1979. The Muslim Brotherhood also has close ties to Iran, which is accused of engaging in hegemony and suspected of secretly developing nuclear arms.

Even though the Muslim Brotherhood was still outlawed in Egypt at the time of his June 4, 2009 Cairo speech, barack obama invited the group to attend. his administration established relations with the Brotherhood in 2011. Today three members of the Muslim Brotherhood wield influence over White House policy.

What was the White House reaction to the Egyptian Supreme Court’s ruling?

*Cue the sound of crickets*

Global Governance vs. National Sovereignty

The International Conference on Global Governance vs. National Sovereignty, sponsored by American Freedom Alliance, concluded Monday in Los Angeles CA.

The chief question posed at the Conference’s opening: Is Global Governance vs. National Sovereignty the West’s next ideological war?

John Bolton, Former U.S. Ambassador to the UN gave Sunday morning’s Keynote Speech. Ambassador Bolton spoke from first hand experience, sharing front line knowledge accumulated through years of engagement in international diplomacy. He not only gave definition to the term “the Global Governance Movement”, he also described its agenda, which is to subvert national sovereignty in favor of a supranational authority through the invention and initiation of international laws and norms.

After his speech, Ambassador Bolton welcomed Dr. John Fonte, Senior Fellow and Director of the Center for American Common Culture at the Hudson Institution, John Yoo, Professor of Law at the University of California at Berkley, Steven Groves, the Bernard and Barbara Lomas Fellow at the Heritage Institute’s Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom, and Michael Shaw, guiding attorney for Freedom Advocates.org to the stage. The five elaborated intelligently on the consequences of increasing subservience by sovereign nations to the ideology of Global Governance. Both the political makeup and the ideological activism of the UN were indicted.

Following morning breakout sessions focused on:

  • Non-governmental organizations as purveyors of Global Governance
  • The Green Movement, Agenda 21, Global Warming alarmism and Global Governance
  • Who will control the Internet and who will control the seas

The afternoon was kicked off by a Keynote Speech by President Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic. President Klaus spoke directly of the prospects of Global Governance and its European variant, the European Union. Drawing upon his experience as a leader of a former Soviet bloc country, President Klaus warned against the threat of independent sovereign states surrendering control to an un-elected, unaccountable extra-national governing body in a distant capitol.

Larry Greenfield, National Executive Director of the Jewish Institution for National Security Affairs, invited Robert O’Brien, Managing Partner of the Los Angeles office of Arent Fox LLP, Donald Kochan, Professor of Law at Chapman University School of Law and Elan Journo, a fellow in foreign policy at the Ayn Rand Institute into a discussion about the politicization of international law and its impact on national sovereignty. Global and international law were identified as both threats to and the means by which national sovereignty is undermined.

Subsequent to afternoon breakout sessions focusing on:

  • The demonization/diminishment of the United States and Israel as a chief Global Governance strategy
  • Law-fare, international humanitarian law and their role in undermining sovereignty
  • The role of Islam in fostering and encouraging Global Governance

The Honorable John Howard, Australia’s 25th Prime Minister gave the day’s concluding Keynote Speech. The former Prime Minister discussed the concept of the nation state and why it still matters to countries that enjoy governance by popularly elected representative governments.

Sunday’s last panel, featuring President Klaus, Nonie Darwish, founder of Arabs for Israel, John Yoo and John Fonte discussed whether or not liberal democracies have the strength and will to defend their national sovereignty. The endurance of strong constitutions and distinct cultural identities were viewed as key elements in an ongoing uphill struggle by sovereign nation-states against the intrusions of Global Governance. Panelists considered these elements necessary to fending off the introduction and implementation of transnational ambitions by proponents of Global Governance.

The Conference reconvened Monday morning with a spirited discussion concerned with using the political process and judicial system to thwart and defeat Global Governance activism. A distinctly academic intellectual discussion about whether Constitutional Law was robust enough to prevent the political branches of government from violating the Constitution through treaties whose provisions conflict with constitutional guarantees was initiated by Eugene Volokh, professor of law at UCLA School of Law. Professor Volokh gave an extensive portrayal of why the introduction of Sharia Law into the American judicial system is not threatening U.S. Constitutional rule of law. His observations were challenged by Larry Greenfield, Steven Groves and by John Yoo. Professor Volokh’s defense of his position was based primarily on viewing individual situations and circumstances as singular, isolated potential constitutional violations easily rationalized away by equating Islam’s ambitions to those of other, more benign religious institutions found in America. This approach was resounding rejected by Stephen Coughlin, a fellow of the American Freedom Alliance, who successfully portrayed the fallacy of ignoring the global dominance agenda openly preached and taught by proponents of Islamic global dominance under Sharia Law. Mr. Coughlin’s remarks received applause from Conference attendees.

After an address by Professor Mike Farris of Patrick Henry University on how Global Governance threatens the nuclear family through international laws and treaties, the Conference concluded with a reading of and discussion about the Conference Declaration.

The Declaration of Los Angeles: Sovereignty, Democracy and Individual Rights are Indivisible.

We, the undersigned, do hereby append our signatures to the statement below and declare:

THAT national sovereignty, constitutional democracy and the protection of individual rights are indivisible.

THAT constitutional democratic representative government is the most successful political system ever devised by the human mind.

THAT democratic self-government has only existed—and can only exist—within the sovereign liberal democratic nation state in which the people rule themselves.

THAT the principles of liberty, national independence and democratic self-government as articulated in Britain’s establishment of parliamentary democracy, the founding of the American republic, the establishment of the state of Israel, the achievement of dominion status in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, the traditional national sovereignty of European democracies, and the continuing growth of liberal democracy in Asia, Latin America and Africa, are superior to any forms of global governance.

THAT the assertion of constitutional government’s obsolescence and decline is utterly false.

THAT while international cooperation should be encouraged and international treaties respected, no supranational authority which claims jurisdiction over liberal democratic states without the consent of the governed should be accepted.

THAT non-governmental organizations which purport to represent an international constituency do not have the legal or political authority to speak for the citizens of liberal democratic nation states, only democratically elected representatives have such legitimate democratic authority.

THAT the constitutions of our respective nations remain the supreme and inalienable law of our lands and if ever a conflict arises between our respective constitutions and any form of supranational authority (such as interpretations of international law, rulings of the United Nations, judgements of international courts, etc.), our Constitutions and constitutional principles will always prevail.

THAT we call on leaders of democratic nation states to reject the demands of transnational advocates to subsume domestic law to international law and stand together with us in upholding the principles of national sovereignty while rejecting the claims and arguments of global governance advocates.

Iran Military Chief Vows to Annihilate Israel

AMERICAN JEWISH COMMITTEE LOGO

NEW YORK, May 20, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — AJC called today’s Iranian vow to annihilate Israel another unmistakable signal that, despite international pressure to date, the regime in Tehran has not changed its genocidal aims.

“Iran has made clear through a record of deadly terrorism worldwide — against the U.S., Argentina, Great Britain, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and others — what it does without nuclear weapons. Now, just imagine what an Iran with nuclear-weapons capability would do,” said AJC Executive Director David Harris. “Iran’s military chief of staff has left no doubt what is the regime’s goal, and why, if further proof is needed, its nuclear program must be stopped.”

Major General Hassan Firouzabadi, chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces, declared today that “the Iranian nation is standing for its cause, which is the full annihilation of Israel.”

The (Iranian) Fars News Agency reported that General Firouzabadi made his threat during a speech in Tehran today. He also repeated Iran’s unwavering commitment to supporting Palestinians opposed to Israel’s very existence.

“General Firouzabadi’s brazen threat to destroy another UN member state, Israel, together with the risk that Iran’s behavior will trigger a nuclear arms race in the volatile Middle East, should serve to further re-enforce — indeed, bolster — the sanctions against Iran, while, as President Barack Obama has said, keeping all options on the table,” said Harris.

The Iranian military commander’s comments come just before International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director Amano arrives in Tehran. He is trying again to reach an understanding with the Iranian regime ahead of Wednesday’s talks in Baghdad between representatives of Iran and the five UN Security Council permanent members plus Germany.

“General Firouzabadi’s comments are a timely and sobering reminder of the stakes involved,” said Harris. “They should also put to rest, once and for all, the fanciful views of those remaining political leaders, diplomats, and journalists who contend that Iran is a ‘peaceful’ nation which has simply been ‘misunderstood’ by the global community.”

Shifting Right: The Jewish Vote in 2012 with YJC President David Milstein

The Jewish vote has been a cornerstone in President Obama’s coalition and that of the Democratic Party for decades.  However, with calls from President Obama for Israel to return to the indefensible 1967 borders and disparaging remarks about Netanyahu caught on an open mic with President Sarkozy, one would think that Jewish support for this president should wane. Obama did win 78% of the Jewish vote in 2008 and recent polls show that 55% of Jewish respondents still back the president.  However, that is a five point drop from last June, which coupled with Obama’s incremental drop in his approval ratings, is a net loss of eleven points amongst Jewish voters.  Jewish conservatives see a break in the ranks.  I was fortunate to have David Milstein, the President of Young Jewish Conservatives, to answer some questions concerning the objectives of the organization, how it started, and what they plan to do to alter the direction of the country in this critical election year.

1. When did you get the idea to start an organization that represents the interests of Jewish conservatives?

Milstein: A few years ago, two young rabbis realized it was time for politically conservative Jews to come together. There was no organization focused on this demographic. Central to the idea of YJC is to make it acceptable and eventually the norm for Jews to be politically conservative.  The obvious stereotype is that Jews are usually on the Left. But there are more Jews on the right than people realize. One of their major goals was to therefore form an organization that will reach out to the next generation and unite politically conservative young Jews who share our values and love of Israel.  We are here to support, represent and defend their values in the public square.

The organization truly began over winter break when the two rabbis realized there was no better way to bring young Jews together than to lead a free trip to Israel.  I had the amazing opportunity to go on a trip with 28 students from 21 different colleges and universities.  We were all united in our support for Israel and our belief in conservatism.  After such a successful trip, I decided to join Young Jewish Conservatives full time.

We are actually leading another free trip for students this summer. If you are interested in joining us or want to learn more about our previous trip, feel free to visit our website youngjewishconservatives.org.

2. How does it make you feel that most in the Jewish community vote overwhelmingly Democratic in elections?

Milstein: It certainly is difficult when many Jews are on the Left.  As someone who is a conservative, I believe many of our conservatives values are interrelated with our Jewish values.  But YJC is here to move the Jewish vote to the Right.  Our goal is to focus on each new generation and tell them the truth about conservatism. Some on the Left, including President Obama, take the Jewish vote for granted. They pander during speeches but there actions show an entirely different story. We are here to expose their hypocrisy and deception to young Jewish voters across the country.

 3. Why is it that Jewish Americans vote Democratic or cater to a more liberal point of view?

Milstein:  This is the million-dollar question.  Norman Podhoretz has a great book titled “Why are Jews Liberal?” that explains his theory behind it.  Some theories tie it back to their support of FDR when waves of immigration came to the US or the traditional kibbutz style of living that was the result of thousands of years of persecution.  This election will show a shift among the Jewish vote.  Jews across America will see how Obama’s policies are undermining Israel and won’t vote to give him a second term.

 4. Do you think Obama’s rather insensitive Israeli policy will affect the attitudes of Jewish voters in the 2012 elections, if you think it will not have an impact, how do you explain Bob Turner’s win in Anthony Wiener’s old congressional district in 2011?

Milstein: Absolutely. The most recent polls on the Jewish vote show higher disapproval of Obama and much higher support for the presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney than John McCain received in 2008.  The Jewish community is beginning to recognize that President Obama is no friend of Israel.  They may see him gave big speeches at AIPAC saying he supports Israel, but his actions tell an entirely different story.  Actions speak louder than words, which in general is a great theme to run on against Obama.

You are right. We have already seen a prime electoral example of a referendum on Obama’s anti-Israel policies in the Bob Turner election.  An orthodox Jew, Bob Turner ran much of his campaign exposing Obama’s true record on Israel.  The Democrats had no response to the truth. It is very hard to defend someone who has backtracked from his promise for an undivided Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and who has embraced the Palestinian narrative calling on Israel to accept an indefensible border of 8 miles wide.  And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Jewish voters in the Bob Turner election recognized that Obama is saying one thing and doing another, electing Bob Turner in a typically Democrat district.  The message they sent to Washington was clear.  Sadly, President Obama has ignored them.

As a steadfast supporter of Israel, hearing Obama say to the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that a second term will give him more “flexibility” to conduct his foreign policy makes me very worried as to how he will treat Israel for another four years.

YJC will take this message across the country. We are planning to be very active in the 2012 election. We are developing a strategy to expose Obama’s real record on Israel and recruiting volunteers to go straight into the Jewish communities across America to tell the truth.

 5. Who have you networked with on Capitol Hill, the media, and others in the activist circle?

Milstein:We have been in touch with quite a few people in politics who are very excited about our goals and endeavors.  We are filling a very important vacuum.  Our board is already made up of some very prominent Jewish conservatives who are listed on our website.

YJC held the first ever Shabbat service at CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) in February.  We had more than 100 CPAC attendees come celebrate Shabbos including many prominent conservative leaders and candidates for elected office. Again, there is more information on our website here.

6. Any GOTV operations planned with fellow YJC members across the country?

Milstein: We are working to spread the message all across the country, within the Jews community and throughout the conservative political circle.  Now more than ever we need a group who will take the conservative, pro-Israel message into the Jewish community to reach out to the next generation.  However, in a few months, we will have a more defined strategy.

 7. Does Mitt Romney make the cut for an endorsement from the YJC

Milstein: As of now, YJC does not endorse any specific candidates, but it is clear that Mitt Romney is the presumptive Republican nominee for President.  For Mitt Romney to beat President Obama, he must not only expose how Obama has failed, but also the ideological reasons why they have failed. He must also articulate that this election is about voting for two very different paths for America’s future.  Romney cannot just say this in a speech; he must also prove it in his platform.  He must propose very bold, conservative solutions that promote economic freedom and defend the free enterprise system.  Doing so will show the American people a clear contrast and that he is a reformer willing to take on the biggest problems facing our country.

8. What possible Vice Presidential candidates makes the cut for YJC support?

Milstein: One of the best ways Romney can bring conservative enthusiasm to his campaign is to pick a true conservative running mate.  The person must be conservative in the eyes of conservatives, not just the pick of the establishment, inside the beltway pundits.  The candidate must have a real record of conservative reform and who is trusted to stand on conservative principles.  A few examples that come to mind are Governor Bobby Jindal, Governor Bob McDonnell, Representative Paul Ryan, Senator Toomey and Senator Jim DeMint.

How Netanyahu Could End Up Helping the Romney Campaign

Flag of Israel

Rumor has it that before summer’s end, Israel will have a new government. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is likely to call an early election, in presumably in preparation for the elections here in the U.S. He is gearing up for the possibility that Obama will win a second term. Netanyahu apparently perceives our current administration as his greatest adversary, primarily over his handling – or not handling – the Palestinian question.

Netanyahu’s Likud party, while unlikely to garner a majority in the Knesset – Israel’s parliament – remains at least a little popular if only because of its stance on the question of recognizing a Palestinian state. Couple this with problems in the opposition party, Kadima, and it is easier to see why Israel is looking at early elections this year.

But beyond political maneuvering in Israel, there are other issues in the region to consider, at least to understand why this all could play out to the advantage of the Romney camp. If you couple Netanyahu’s desire to double-down on his current Palestinian policy with the fact that interest in the issue is apparently flagging in the Arab world, this could be yet another reason for the Romney camp to focus on Jewish voters here. As economic issues take the forefront for many in the Arab Spring nations, the question of an independent Palestinian nation is less important – a case of personal needs trumping ideology.

Back to Netanyahu, he knows it’s likely that Obama would focus on Palestine in a second term. It is foolish to assume that he would not consider reaching out to Jewish voters in the U.S. himself, albeit unofficially, and gently suggest that it would be better for Israel if Obama didn’t get a second term. And it would be foolish for the Romney camp to not point out these issues. But that requires focusing on issues, as opposed to fluff.

Did You Know?

You may feel as though you are well aware of the events that seem to shape the world today? Perhaps you feel as though they are beyond your power to change?  And then again, you might be inclined as many American’s are, to state you don’t care about politics.  In either case even the most diligent American would have a hard time keeping up with all the rhetoric on a daily basis that continues to plague the world we live in. It hard to keep up on the facts, and even harder to recognize what is fact and what is fiction on the Hill, when integrity seems to be a thing of the past.  The reality is, despite the attempts to dismiss the threat of radical Islam by the media and government officials, Islam is very much close to home and a real threat to our national security.  The majority of people are under the impression there is no cause for alarm; they fail to recognize the depth of the infiltration of Islam which is deeply rooted in our U.S. culture, society, and government.

Ironically, probably 99 percent of American’s probably don’t know most of what I am about to tell you. If they do know, and discuss it publicly, they are either criticized, dismissed, or marginalized.  To a certain extent we have become complacent and have allowed our government to spiral out of control while those we elect have their own self-serving agendas.  Career Politicians seem to feel as tho they are the voice for us, yet the words they choose behind close doors would probably make most of us cringe.

This year, and election year, you may want to take a closer look at who your voting for because not caring, lack of interest, or the other typical excuse “I’m not interested in politics” are all reasons that could contribute to the downfall of the United States as you believe it to be.   As an American you have a moral, ethical, and civic duty to care about the people you put into office, because they not only effect you, they have a significant impact on generations to come – not caring, lack of interest, or whatever the reason is what got us here in the first place.
