Science Proves Leftists Are Wimpy

Obama voter prepares for the beach.

Obama voter prepares for the beach.

Sometimes a story just sounds too good to be true. A study published in Psychological Science has found that girly–men are more likely to support a cradle–to–grave welfare state and “share–the–wealth” economic policy than more robust male specimens. This sounds reasonable to me and the fact it appears the research wasn’t paid for by tax dollars is a bonus.

“Psychological scientists” Michael Bang Peterson, of Aarhus University in Denmark, and Daniel Sznycer, of the University of California, found that conservative or right wing beliefs are strongly correlated with physical strength.

The researchers studied bicep size, socio–economic status and political views from participants in the U.S., Argentina and Denmark. Selecting participants from the U.S. and Denmark is not surprising, since that’s where the researchers are based, but why Argentina? Juan Perón was a famous Argentine strongman, but his appellation had nothing to do with muscularity and everything to do with being authoritarian socialist.

One wonders how specific participants were selected and the interviews conducted. Possibly they visited gyms and offered to spot the weightlifters if they could ask questions between sets. It would have been interesting to eavesdrop on some of the conversations researchers had after removing the calipers from the bicep.

You certainly wouldn’t want to ask a politically sensitive question of someone who was benching 300 lbs.

According to the hypothesis established before the testing began, Dirty Harry should be a reliable Republican voter, while Napoleon Dynamite will be supporting Barack Obama until he can afford to hire a personal trainer and release his inner Tarzan.

But the data according to what the Mail Online reported didn’t support the hypothesis. “The data revealed that wealthy men with high upper-body strength were less likely to support redistribution, while less wealthy men of the same strength were more likely to support it.” Had the hypothesis been accurate personal wealth should not have affected support for socialism as long their pecs were equally ripped.

Once the scientists stopped collecting data and started pumping up the results, they proved they know more about the motivation for feeling the burn than they do about the desire to “share the wealth.”

Professor Petersen concluded, “‘Our results demonstrate that physically weak males are more reluctant than physically strong males to assert their self-interest – just as if disputes over national policies were a matter of direct physical confrontation among small numbers of individuals, rather than abstract electoral dynamics among millions.”

That conclusion gets it exactly backwards and leads me to believe the Peterson and Snzycer need more work in the gym. When “weak males” support “share–the–wealth” politicians the weaklings realize they are too feeble to make it on their own. So instead they support policies that encourage the government — which hires those buff IRS collectors — to do the strong-arm stuff for them. Force those who have made it on their own to, in the words of our socialist–in–chief, “spread the wealth around.”

This goes a long way to explain why male art history majors are such strong Democrat supporters.

The only disappointing information contained in the study applied to women. There was no link between upper body strength and conservative views among the fairer sex.

They only question left unanswered is: Do women, regardless of their own strength, who prefer strong men also prefer conservative economics?

Parental Permission

age 15

age 15Last week the FDA said that 15 year olds can now purchase an abortificient type birth control over the counter. Plan B, as it’s called, is designed to be used within 72 hours of unprotected sex.  Through use of a ‘higher hormonal concentration’ it is meant to prevent implantation of an embryo and keep pregnancy from occurring.

A pharmacist, who does not have the medical history of the patient, will be the one handing over this medication. Will the child take it as prescribed? Or will she, as children often do, feel that ‘it two pills are good, six will be better? Can she just walk over to another pharmacy and get more of this medication? plan b

With all medicine there is a risk of side effects.  Who will this young girl talk to if she develops a reaction? Not her health care provider, who will be unaware of the purchase.

Difficulty breathing? Abdominal pain? These aren’t just simple reactions. What happens to the young girl who takes this medicine and then develops a life threatening problem? When, if ever, will her parents be informed of what has happened? Will the parents have to wait until reading the autopsy report of their child who died from complications of this hormone?

The Left believe that kids have the right to make the grown up decision to take this medication without knowledge of or intervention by the parents. Setting aside moral arguments for or against the Plan B drug availability let’s look at what other things a 15 year old can’t do without parental permission. For example:

Can a sophomore in high school have her picture posted in the newspaper or yearbook without parental permission?

Can a junior in high school choose to participate in extracurricular activities at school, particularly sports, without parental permission?

Can a student under 18 go on a field trip, watch an ‘R-rated’ movie in school, or stay out beyond the city curfew without an okay from an adult guardian?

If a child it not allowed to take a Tylenol or use an asthma inhaler in school without parental permission, why is she allowed to buy medication with potentially dangerous side effects with only a simple consult by a pharmacy staff member, who does not know her medical history?

If a child can’t have her teeth cleaned by the dentist without parental permission, have an x-ray or receive an immunization shouldn’t the parents be involved in such other critical decisions?

As schools request the ability to hand out condoms to younger and younger children will they soon be asking to supply them with hormonal contraceptives?

Why are parents allowing themselves to be removed from the parenting process? These children, our children, do not belong to the government. Instead of being pushed out, parents need to parent.  Instead of sticking our heads in the sand and letting someone else make decisions, parents need to know what the children are doing and especially what medications they are taking.

UPDATED: Parents Want 2nd Opinion on Child’s Health; CPS Takes Child

cps

UPDATE MONDAY 7PM MST: A judge has ruled that the baby be transferred to another medical center and will allow the family to be reunited with their child. The parents must not take the child from the hospital without appropriate discharge and must follow all medical advice.

Additional information provided indicates the child has had a known heart murmur and the family has been under regular pediatric cardiologist care with the understanding that heart surgery would be necessary but had not been considered an emergent basis.

//

As mom to a special needs child our family is well acquainted with social workers and state agents. In these tough financial times many state workers are being paid less and working more.  For the most part the workers want to do what is best for the family. But what happens when an accusation appears to be made without merit? Can a child be removed from its parents simply because an accuser thinks he might know best?

In the case below parents of an ill baby take the child to the hospital. Following, by the parents’ accounts, what appears to be errors on the part of hospital staff and talk of extreme open heart surgery the parents remove their child and take it to a neighboring hospital for a second opinion. At the second hospital doctors release the child to be taken home with the parents for continued health care.

At one point, Anna says, a nurse came in and started giving the baby, named Sammy, medicine.

When she asked what it was, the nurse allegedly replied, “I don’t know.”

“I’m like, you’re working as a nurse, and you don’t even know what to give to my baby…?” Anna said in an ABC10 Action News interview. They later found out that medicine was antibiotics, which Anna claims the doctor told her Sammy shouldn’t have received. After doctors started discussing heart surgery, the Nikolayevs decided they wanted a second opinion.  They weren’t categorically opposed to the procedure, but they wanted a different doctor. “If we got the one mistake after another, I don’t want to have my baby have surgery in the hospital where I don’t feel safe,” Anna explained.

But it seems staff at the first hospital reported the family to Child Protective Services because the parents took the child out of the hospital without permission.  And according to the reports and parent statements police assisted CPS agents to forcibly take the baby from its mother.

We all want our children to be safe, to be protected. Child abuse is horrendous and should be treated seriously. Everyone believes that it is better to be safe than sorry.

But when is the accusation the only proof necessary to take a child from its parents?

If Baby Killer Kermit Gosnell Tortured Animals to Death Versus Black Babies The Left Would Demand His Life

black baby and preg mom

black baby and preg mom

If 20 pregnant women and 20 pregnant dogs were lined up before a firing squad and fired on, which group’s potential murder would the Left be most horrified over; dogs or human beings?

By the way the Left is ignoring Dr. Kermit B. Gosnell’s torturous murders of born children in his abortion clinic; I have to assume the Left’s horror only extends to the killing of animals and not human beings—unless of course it’s the killing of an Islamic terrorist, then all hell will break loose and we’ll see riots in the streets for the dead terrorist.

Maybe that’s why the Left is ignoring Kermit Gosnell: He’s a medical terrorist who performed abortions in the most heinous manner imaginable.

Dr. Kermit B. Gosnell regularly delivered live babies and murdered them. This news is not important to the left wing, pro-abortion mainstream media, because Dr. Gosnell did not slaughter kittens and puppies.

Gosnell “catered to women” who could not get abortions legally, because they were 20 weeks to six months or more into their pregnancies.

Gosnell’s abortion procedures went beyond anything conceived of. Anyone who reads the “Report Of The Grand Jury” will think they are reading the script to a violent horror movie:

This case is about a doctor who killed babies and endangered women. What we mean is that he regularly and illegally delivered live, viable, babies in the third trimester of pregnancy – and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors. The medical practice by which he carried out this business was a filthy fraud in which he overdosed his patients with dangerous drugs, spread venereal disease among them with infected instruments, perforated their wombs and bowels – and, on at least two occasions, caused their deaths. Over the years, many people came to know that something was going on here. But no one put a stop to it.

Making things worse, Gosnell’s employees were not nurses or doctors; they pretended to be licensed medical practitioners, making diagnoses and performing medical procedures only licensed, schooled medical doctors or nurses can perform.

Despite screams of pain from mothers and birthed babies being tortured to death, these so-called “doctors” ignored it all. The horrific style was part of “Gosnell’s approach…,” “keep volume high, expenses low – and break the law.”

According the Grand Jury:

Gosnell’s approach, whenever possible, was to force full labor and delivery of premature infants on ill-informed women. The women would check in during the day, make payment, and take labor-inducing drugs. The doctor wouldn’t appear until evening, often 8:00, 9:00, or 10:00 p.m., and only then deal with any of the women who were ready to deliver.”

If that wasn’t enough:

Many of them gave birth before he even got there. By maximizing the pain and danger for his patients, he minimized the work, and cost, for himself and his staff. The policy, in effect, was labor without labor. There remained, however, a final difficulty. When you perform late-term ‘abortions’ by inducing labor, you get babies. Live, breathing, squirming babies. By 24 weeks, most babies born prematurely will survive if they receive appropriate medical care. But that was not what the Women’s Medical Society was about. Gosnell had a simple solution for the unwanted babies he delivered: he killed them. He didn’t call it that. He called it “ensuring fetal demise.” The way he ensured fetal demise was by sticking scissors into the back of the baby’s neck and cutting the spinal cord. He called that “snipping.’

Just imagine veterinarians performing such vile procedures on animals. Animals rights activists already scream bloody murder over pet shops and “puppy mills,” but never put their efforts against abuse into fighting the murder of human beings, specifically babies born in abortion clinics where doctors order their murders.

According to investigators:

Medical equipment – such as the defibrillator, the EKG, the pulse oximeter, the blood pressure cuff – was generally broken; even when it worked, it wasn’t used. The emergency exit was padlocked shut. And scattered throughout, in cabinets, in the basement, in a freezer, in jars and bags and plastic jugs, were fetal remains. It was a baby charnel house.

Imagine veterinarians joking about killing animals the way Dr. Gosnell joked about murdering born babies:

[One baby boy] was breathing and moving when Dr. Gosnell severed his spine and put the body in a plastic shoebox for disposal. The doctor joked that this baby was so big he could ‘walk me to the bus stop.’

PETA and the Left would march on Gosnell’s home no doubt calling for his “disposal.” But then again, Gosnell is an animal, so don’t look for the Left to stand up against him.

At Gosnell’s clinic, there was “Another, Baby Boy B, whose body was found at the clinic frozen in a one-gallon spring-water bottle, was at least 28 weeks of gestational age when he was killed. Baby C was moving and breathing for 20 minutes before an assistant came in and cut the spinal cord, just the way she had seen Gosnell do it so many times.”

Gosnell’s “nurse” watched her boss, who never hid his violent practice, murder babies born six months old and up daily, never once dialing 911 or going to police, begging they raid Gosner to prevent murder. She too is on trial for murder and faces life in prison.

The Grand Jury Report states Gosnell induced labor on every woman, causing as much pain as possible to mother and child, tearing open cervix’s, colons, puncturing uterus’s, ripping intestines, leaving parts of fetuses inside mothers, procedures so painful and cheap (Gosnell liked cheap procedures) they caused convulsive seizures, causing women to fall of operating tables onto their heads, never receiving care, and much more.

Gosnell’s staff said he found the screams of mothers and children annoying.

There is another side to Gosnell’s eugenics horrors the media ignores: Gosnell is black man who purposely mistreated impoverished black women in the most heinous fashion possible. Yet, when one white patient entered his clinic, he used the utmost care.

black baby in gun crosshairs

The only reason Gosnell was caught is because police raided his clinic for selling illegal prescriptions: Money flowed into the clinic via “fake prescriptions that brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.” Otherwise the racist Gosnell and his “doctors” would still be torturing poor black women and their birthed babies.

Why isn’t this racist, murderous Gosnell making left wing media headlines? He’s a black abortionist who murdered poor black babies.

Why doesn’t the Left care about that racism? Because Gosnell was accomplishing the century long progressives plan: Population control to eliminate poor children from society, furthering Margaret Sanger’s Negro Project to exterminate the black race, and allowing only the fittest and wealthiest among us to survive.

If Dr. Kermit Gosnell was a veterinarian who slaughtered animals, the Left would demand his life. But he murdered black children, so he did the world a favor.

Putting Kids in a Bubble?

happy birthday

happy birthdayAccording to new rules from the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council, Aussie children will no longer be allowed to blow out candles on their birthday cake. Citing the possibility of spreading germs, the NHMRC recommends parents use single cupcakes with each having one candle on it.

Parents, doctors and other caregivers wonder if these new restrictions might be putting kids into a germ free bubble which, while keeping them away from contagions as a child may limit the building of a health immune system needed to fight off infections later in life. Australian Medical Association (AMA) president Steve Hambleton says it is healthy for children to be exposed to a certain amount of environmental antigens that build their immune systems.

There was reassuring news from the Perth Minister’s Department: “We’re not going to have the cupcake police out…”

One has to wonder if Nanny State promoter NYC Mayor Bloomberg has heard about this yet?

Political Stance — Economic Liberty : Platform of Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists

Previously, beginning March 15, 2013  I posted the Platform of the Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists (TLC) political initiative.  This is not an official political party as yet.  However, it is a series of positions which can unify the nation around sound public policy which a vast number of Americans are craving.

Below, in conjunction with the previous posts, is the first section of the statement of the Political Stance of this initiative.

Platform of Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists (TLC)

POLITICAL STANCE

2.0    Economic Liberty

All members of society should have abundant opportunities to achieve economic success. The Free Market Capitalism, a free and competitive market, allocates resources in the most efficient manner. Each person has the right to offer goods and services to others within such a market. The only proper role of government in the economic realm is to protect property rights, adjudicate disputes, and provide a legal framework in which voluntary trade is protected. All efforts by government to redistribute wealth, or to control or manage trade, are improper in a free society within a Free Market Capitalism system.

2.1    Property and Contract

Property rights are entitled to the same protection as all other human rights. The owners of property have the full right to control, use, dispose of, or in any manner enjoy, their property without interference, until and unless the exercise of their control infringes the valid rights of others.

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists oppose all controls on wages, prices, rents, profits, production, and interest rates.

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists advocate the repeal of all laws banning or restricting the advertising of prices, products, or services.

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists oppose all violations of the right to private property, liberty of contract, and freedom of trade. The right to trade includes the right not to trade — for any reasons whatsoever. Where property, including land, has been taken from its rightful owners by the government or private action in violation of individual rights, Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists favor restitution to the rightful owners, where possible to return it in like condition as when acquired.

2.2    Environment

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists support a clean and healthy environment and sensible use of our natural resources.  Private landowners and conservation groups have a vested interest in maintaining natural resources. Pollution and misuse of resources cause damage to our ecosystem. Protecting the environment requires a clear definition and enforcement of individual rights in resources like land, water, air, and wildlife. Free markets and property rights stimulate the technological innovations and behavioral changes required to protect our environment and ecosystems. Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists realize that our planet’s climate is constantly changing, yet environmental advocates and social pressure are the most effective means of changing public behavior, rather than the use of coercive force of government.

2.3    Energy and Resources

While energy is needed to fuel a modern society, government should not be subsidizing any particular form of energy. Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists oppose all government control of energy pricing, allocation, and production, other than what is rightfully owned by government in an open competitive marketplace.

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists endorse government officials encouraging the development of renewable energy sources, without regulatory enforcement, requirement, or funding thereof.

2.4    Government Finance and Spending

All persons are entitled to keep the fruits of their labor. Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists call for the repeal of the income tax, the abolishment of the Internal Revenue Service and all federal programs and services not required under the U.S. Constitution.  Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists oppose any requirements forcing employers to serve as tax collectors.

Government should not incur debt, which burdens future generations without their consent. Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists oppose the passage of a “Balanced Budget Amendment” to the U.S. Constitution.

Governments at all levels should operate within available revenue, accrued from consumption tax rates approved by the people.

Whereas all federal spending originates in the House of Representatives the budget development process of the Government United States of America should be modified as follows:

  1. The budget shall be a two-year budget coinciding with the 18 months of the current congress, begin on the first July of said congress. (I.e. the 112th Congress runs from January 3, 2011-January 3, 2013.  The 112th Congress would adopt a budget encompassing two years beginning July 1, 2011.)
  2. All funding for federal programs shall be by a general consumption tax, or special program revenue fee-for-service.
  3. Once an initial consumption tax rate has been established by Congress, not to exceed 17%, any increase in the rate must be approved by the people at the same time as congressional elections, and by fifty-one percent (51%) of the states.
  4. A general government reserve must be established and maintained at a rate equivalent to 1/3rd of the approved consumption tax rate. (I.e. if the approved tax rate is 17%, than the reserve rate would be 5.7 %.).  [If the budget were 2 trillion dollars, required reserves would be 114 billion dollars].

2.5    Money and Financial Markets

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists favor free-market banking, with unrestricted competition among banks and depository institutions of all types. Individuals engaged in voluntary exchange should be free to use as money the legal tender of the United States.

2.6    Monopolies and Corporations

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists defend the right of individuals to form corporations, cooperatives and other types of companies based on voluntary association. Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists seek to divest government of all functions that can be provided by non-governmental organizations or private individuals.  Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists oppose government subsidies to business, labor, or any other special interest. Industries should be governed by free market capitalism.

2.7    Labor Markets

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists support repeal of all laws which impede the ability of any person to find employment.

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists oppose government-fostered forced retirement.

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists support the right of free persons to associate or not associate in labor unions, and an employers should have the right to recognize or refuse to recognize a union.

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists oppose government interference in bargaining, such as compulsory arbitration or imposing an obligation to bargain.

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists oppose all forms of unionized government employment, unless specifically approved by a vote of the people of the respective jurisdiction. (I.e. local or state government shall maintain the authority to submit to its respective citizens the right to decide whether such government shall be obligated to unionize any or all of its employees.)

2.8    Education

Education, like any other service, is best provided by the free market, achieving greater quality and efficiency with more diversity of choice. Schools should be managed locally to achieve greater accountability and parental involvement. Recognizing that the education of children is inextricably linked to moral values, Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists would return authority to parents to determine the education of their children, without interference from government. In particular, parents should have control of and responsibility for all funds expended for their children’s education.

2.9    Health Care

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists favor restoring and reviving a free market health care system. Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists recognize the freedom of individuals to determine the level of health insurance they want, the level of health care they want, the care providers they want, the medicines and treatments they will use and all other aspects of their medical care, including end-of-life decisions.

People should be free to purchase health insurance across state lines.

2.10    Retirement and Income Security

Retirement planning is the responsibility of the individual, not the government. Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists would phase out the current government-sponsored Social Security system and transition to a private system.

Individuals have responsibility, accountability and liberty to manage their own lives.  However, we have learned from experience that most individuals, unaware of what future consequences of their life choices may bring, will fail to plan for adequate resources to care for themselves during time of incapacity.  Further, although liberty is individual, care for one another is a natural part of life’s experience. Governments in all ages have sought to control and provide for individuals during periods of incapacity.   In light of this reality it is proper for governments to require that all members of society prepare for their own eventual incapacity through a self-administered plan for future self-sufficiency.  Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists directly oppose any government regulation, control, or management of such self-care programs beyond requiring individuals to select such a plan and adhere to it.

The proper and most effective source of help for the poor is the voluntary efforts of private groups and individuals. Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists believe members of society will become more charitable and civil society will be strengthened as government reduces its activity in this realm.

Political Stance — Platform of Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists

Previously, beginning March 15, 2013  I posted the Platform of the Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists (TLC) political initiative.  This is not an official political party as yet.  However, it is a series of positions which can unify the nation around sound public policy which a vast number of Americans are craving.

Below, in conjunction with the previous posts, is the first section of the statement of the Political Stance of this initiative.

Platform of Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists (TLC)

POLITICAL STANCE

1.0    Personal Liberty

Individuals should be free to make choices for themselves, and, to accept and be accountability for the consequences of the choices they make. No individual, group, or government may initiate force against any other individual, group, or government.

1.1    Expression and Communication

The Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists support full freedom of expression and oppose government censorship, regulation or control of communications media and technology.

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists

  • Favor the freedom to engage in or abstain from any religious activities that do not violate the rights of others.
  • Oppose government actions which either aid or attack any religious organization.  Recent legislation and ruling of the courts has been to restrict the use of government provided facilities and activities for the display of religious symbols.  Since government ought to act in absolute equity toward all citizens under its domain Constitutional Traditionalists find such restriction to be incorrect.  Governments ought to make available on an equitable basis opportunity for all religious organizations to present their symbolism.

Constitutional Traditionalists support in totality the Amendments 1-10 of the Constitution of the United State.  These amendments should be interpreted by government to provide the broadest expanse of liberty to the people, and consequently the greatest level of permissible authority to those levels of government most closely associated with the people.  Governments should act first in the general interest of the citizenry, yet never in the interest of special interests groups, or organizations.

1.2    Personal Privacy

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists specifically support the rights recognized by the Fourth Amendment to be secure in our persons, homes, and property. Protection from unreasonable search and seizure should include records held by third parties, such as email, medical, and library records. Only actions that infringe on the rights of others can properly be termed crimes.

Whereas, some individuals will be employed to administer the affairs of the greater society, and thus in position of public scrutiny, any personal privacy while operating as a public servant ought to be completely subject to such public scrutiny.

The excessive use of prescription and recreational drugs may lead an individual to unknowingly and uncontrollably violate the rights and safety of another.  Legal means may be used to protect society against such unintended consequences, however, ought not to be exercised to prevent the use thereof. (i.e.  The excessive use of alcohol may lead an individual to be incapable of safely operating a vehicle.  Law enforcement may legitimately protect society from the operation of such a vehicle, but ought not prevent the individual from consuming alcohol or apply punishment for its consumption).

1.3    Personal Relationships

Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the government’s treatment of individuals, such as in current marriage, child custody, adoption, or immigration. Government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships. Consenting adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices and personal relationships.

Marriage has devolved from two threads of social interaction.  One thread is within the religious realm.  The alternate thread is within the political realm.  It is no longer practical that both realms dictate regulations regarding marriages.  Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists support the idea that marriages for political alliances have become outmoded.  Therefore, marriages and their performances should be solely a matter of religious function.  Further, legal benefit and restriction associated with marriage ought to be dissolved, continuing with no strength under law.

1.4    Abortion

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists specifically believe that life begins at conception, acknowledging that any such human life, cannot by natural means, become anything other than a living human being which ultimately has and possesses all the natural liberties which are afforded to all human beings.  As such any action to deprive such living human being, following conception, of life is not an exercise of liberty but rather an act of violence, subject to accountability for such violence as though inflicted on a fully sentient living human being.

Recognizing that abortion is a sensitive issue and that people can hold good-faith views on all sides, Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists believe that government should be kept out of the matter with respect to the health of the mother and cases where rape and incest are undeniable factors, leaving the question in those cases to each person for their conscientious consideration.

1.5    Duty to Protect the Life of a Minor

Through the freedom to act independently persons of the age of capability procreate.  Children of such procreation should be considered minor until such age as they are able to be fully capable of sustaining their own lives.  Parents have a Duty to Protect the Life of a Minor.  Parents that fail to provide such protections are violating the minor’s ability to ultimately be at liberty to make choices for themselves and to accept responsibility for the consequences of the choices they make.

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists believe current ages of “majority” are appropriate.

 1.6    Crime and Justice

Government exists to protect the rights of every individual including life, liberty and property. Criminal laws should be limited to violation of the rights of others through force or fraud, or deliberate actions that place others involuntarily at significant risk of physical harm. Individuals retain the right to voluntarily assume risk of harm to themselves. Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists support restitution of the victim to the fullest degree possible at the expense of the criminal or the negligent wrongdoer. Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists oppose reduction of constitutional safeguards of the rights of the criminally accused. The rights of due process, a speedy trial, legal counsel, trial by jury, and the legal presumption of innocence until proven guilty, must not be denied. Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists assert the common-law right of juries to judge not only the facts but also the justice of the law in specific circumstances.

Whereas, the accused are entitled to a speedy trial, the victims of wrongdoing are also entitled to a speedy trial.  All trials other than for capital punishment ought to be tried and concluded within one year of indictment.  All capital punishment trials should be tried and concluded within eighteen months of indictment.  These time-frames should include all appeals.

1.7   Self-Defense

The legitimate use of force is in personal defense of individual rights — life, liberty, and justly acquired property — against aggression (violence). This right inheres in the individual, who may agree to be aided by any other individual or group. Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists affirm the individual right recognized by the Second Amendment to keep and bear arms, and oppose the prosecution of individuals for exercising their rights of self-defense.

Traditional Libertarian Constitutionalists oppose all laws at any level of government restricting the ownership, manufacture, or transfer or sale of firearms or ammunition.

Double Tragedy: Abortion at 33 Weeks Takes Mother Too

nicu

nicu

There are only a few places in the country where a mother can have an abortion in the third trimester. Maryland remains one of those states.

According to a press conference held by the Maryland Coalition for Life in Germantown, MD it was announced that a 29-year-old woman died at a local hospital as a direct result of complications from a third trimester abortion. According to LifeNews.com the woman was at the end of a four day abortion procedure when she developed chest pain and other medical symptoms. The family took her to a local Emergency Room where she subsequently died. It is reported that the Maryland Examiner’s Office will investigate this death.

Contrary to political jargon abortions are not without significant risk. U.S. mortality rates per 100,000 abortions as are 14.0 for 16-20 weeks and 18.0 for after 21 weeks. Mortality results for second and third trimester abortions climb steeply each week of gestation. Per 100,000 abortions, the relative risk of abortion-related mortality was 14.7 at 13–15 weeks of gestation, 29.5 at 16-20 weeks, and 76.6 at or after 21 weeks.

Drug Resistant TB Found in Illegal Border Crosser

tb poster

TB_poster

Not only are many who enter the US illegally partaking in additional illegal activities (drug running, human smuggling, etc.) but a good number are also bringing something with them. They are bringing their diseases and most worrisome, their communicable diseases.

In late November, 2012 a young Asian was caught trying to sneak across the border into Texas. He was discovered to have a very rare case of Tuberculosis, in its least treatable form.

Though Tuberculosis is on the decline in the United States there is a worrisome increase in the rates of foreign born patients. TB rates were 12 times higher among people born outside the United States. In 2011, 81 of the 98 patients diagnosed with Multi-Drug Resistant TB were foreign born. Of these infected individuals, more than half of the cases originated in just five countries: Mexico, the Philippines, Vietnam, India, and China, the CDC said. Tuberculosis, in its treatable form is a frightening communicable disease; in these drug resistant forms it can cause death.

How secure is our border? Last week we shared a video showing the open border across many parts of Arizona. Still, the Department of Homeland Security tells us the Southern border is secure and all the signs point to fewer trying to enter the country illegally. However, in a study done for the DHS, the RAND Corporation found  both increased and decreased detained/arrest numbers were touted by the DHS as improved security. In their report RAND stated, “Clearly, a measure that reflects successful performance whether it rises or falls has limited value as a management tool.”

Ironically, this week one man who had been deported five times was picked up in Pinal County, Arizona. During a routine traffic stop a driver and his passenger were discovered to be in the United States illegally. The passenger was a man with several warrants who had been deported FIVE times, the last time just in December. Both men were taken into custody after resisting arrest with Pinal County officers.

Apparently, our borders aren’t so secure? Perhaps DHS and maybe Janet Napolitano should follow these two fellows who appear to know where the hole in the wall is.

The health of our citizens is yet another reason we need a closed border, where immigrants can be screened for these deadly communicable diseases.

Optimize Your Dollar: Five Easy Ways to Save on Dinner

optimize your dollar 1

Noticing that cash crunch from your lowered paycheck this week? Here are five quick and easy ways to save money at meal time.

  1. Breakfast for Dinner: My family loves homemade breakfast. Trouble is we don’t usually have enough time in the morning for more than cereal and juice before heading out. So we move breakfast to dinner once a week. A box of pancake mix, some butter and syrup and you’ve got the fixin’s to fill up even the hungriest teen. Add a side of seasonal or frozen fruit (here in the desert it’s citrus time) and some bacon or sausage and you’re set.
  2. Breakfast for Dinner Part Two: Still thinking about breakfast? Might I suggest baked eggs? This one is soooo easy. Throw it together and into the oven for 30-40 minutes, help the kids with their homework while it’s baking, and then time to eat. There are no hard and fast rules to make this: I use 2-3 eggs per adult, 2 for less hungry kids, stirred with a little milk, salt & pepper; sprinkle some hash browns in the bottom of the pan (if you have them, some people line the bottom of the pan with slices of bread); bacon or other meat if you want (cooked first and crumbled); some cooked vegetables (we like to take frozen broccoli chopped up, cooked in microwave 5-6 minutes and drained—I use about 1/3 cup per person); pour the egg mix in and cheese for the top. Use oil, butter or spray Pam in your pan and bake at 350 until puffed up in the center.
  3. Make your own pizza: Around here there are pizza specials where for under $10 you get a medium pizza, enough for a couple adults or several small children. Otherwise, pizza can be a pretty expensive treat. Why not make your own? Jiffy makes an inexpensive and easy to make crust but there are others readily available, you can also make your own pizza sauce (can of tomato sauce, tomato paste, seasonings including garlic and oregano) or you can buy sauce at the grocer.  In both cases watch for these to be on sale and stock up (they have a long shelf life—if you buy a yeast product, pay attention to the ‘use by’ date.) Add your toppings and bake.  Look for your favorite toppings to be on sale too, most, including shredded cheese, can be frozen for later use. This is a great meal where the kids can help.
  4. Hamburger Helper: Many families like the quick easy meals that can be prepared with the Hamburger Helper type mixes. My friend with five kids shared her tip to make one package feed the clan: she cooks separately, additional pasta and then stirs it into the pan mixing together. She said this is the only way to get enough food into the hollow legs of her growing boys and does the same with macaroni and cheese mixes. A second suggestion is to use ground turkey either alone or mixed with regular hamburger. At our local Costco I can buy a five pound chub of ground turkey for $7. I let it thaw enough to cut and then portion it out. At this point you can cook it all up and freeze in portion sized bags for later use (shaves ten minutes off cooking later and you can throw it in the microwave to thaw). If your family doesn’t like ground turkey plane you can easily mix it 50-50 with the cheap hamburger, which will have plenty of fat to add flavor.
  5. Nail Soup. Do you remember this children’s story? A traveler enters a very unfriendly village and sets out a pot filled with water over a fire. The curious villagers come out one by one and the traveler explains that he is making a magic soup that uses nothing but his special nail. As it simmers he tells them how great it will be, if only he had a pinch of salt which one woman decides she can share. After tasting it again he remarks how wonderful the soup would be, if 100_0897only he could add a carrot or two, which another villager remembers she has in the house. The story goes on, adding potatoes, then some meat, etc., etc. until the pot is filled with a delicious simmering soup. The traveler shares it with the villagers who find it amazing and happiness abounds. That’s the soup we make at our house. What’s in the refrigerator? Some leftover chicken or ham, pick it off the bone and throw in the pot. Got a few potatoes? Peel and add. Carrots or cauliflower? You got it. Our soup is never the same but it’s always delicious. As I was typing this article I made a pot for dinner tonight. In the freezer I discovered a chunk of leftover turkey from Thanksgiving, still good, but a little frosty looking. Cut it up added an onion and some potatoes. Today I have a sweet potato and kale. Both made a fine addition to the soup. I add just enough water to cover and today used a couple of chicken bouillon cubes for seasoning.  Cook the potatoes until soft so they can be mashed up a little. Often I add a can of creamed corn (just before serving) to thicken. You 100_0901can add milk for a creamier sauce. You can make it with pasta (I cook pasta separately and add at end so it doesn’t get mushy.) And, as my family likes to remind me, if it’s kind of bland tasting, ketchup makes it better. This soup takes a little more time to prepare and cook but you can put together it at night and cook in the crockpot.

So there you have it. Five easy ways to stretch your dollar at dinner. Using any one of these suggestions should save a family of four at least $10 per meal over everyone ordering a kids meal at the local fast food store.

NOTE: I am not a nutritionist so make absolutely NO claim about the nutritional value of these meals. As a mom I will say our family does try to eat a well balanced diet.

If you have suggestions to stretch your shopping dollar or questions please let me know.

Drugs and Guns, “$$$ & power”

“$$$ & power” – the name of the game.

Food companies put dies and other chemicals that are mildly addictive in our food.

These big food companies contribute to both political parties.

Thus the issue is ignored despite independent studies and populous’ clamor.

Such additives cause attention deficit and other behavioral problems particularly in children.

Studies funded by the same companies as “self-regulating” say problems are “inconclusive.”

Therefore the issue is dismissed and some children are labeled “allergic.”

Most parents are unaware of things like Red Dye # 40 causing attention deficits and dysfunctions.

Therefore far too many children get diagnosed as ADD or ADHD, etc.

Parents and doctors don’t know enough to consider eliminating the additives from their diet.

Doctors prescribe drugs for most of these kids to “solve the problem.”

Some of those children have side effects from the insidious drugs.

Some of them hide their side effects because they feel crazy and drugged up enough.

A few of those kids develop sever mental and social disorders.

Of those, a few carry out bizarre behavior to include suicide.

A small % of these adolescents (and adults) are capable and willing to create havoc on society.

When those are combined with irresponsible gun ownership, dreadful scenes like Sandy Hook occur.

Politicians use the opportunity to disarm the people, giving themselves ultimately unchecked power.

No one addresses the real problem above.

This post goes nowhere.

Our nation dies.

Requiring Alcohol Sensors in Cars. Should We?

Okay you Libertarians, here’s a question for you. How much government help (or as some might say, interference) is too much? Where do we draw the line?

Following the tragic and senseless death of Cowboys football player Jerry Brown the driver of the car, fellow player Josh Brent is facing manslaughter charges for driving while intoxicated. Calvin Hill, a consultant for the team, searching for answers, is now pondering a mandate that Cowboys players have electronic devices designed to immobilize vehicles when a driver is impaired.

From USAToday: Calvin Hill said the team could mandate that The device, SafeKey, includes a small fob that is attached to the key ring, which sends electronic signals to a complementary device that can prevent a vehicle from starting if a driver doesn’t pass a test based on color-coded light emissions.

The NFL Players Association would have to agree to such a mandate and such a negotiation would not happen immediately. There is a current confidential program in place by the players union that provides rides for players who are impaired.

At the same time the National Transportation Safety Board is also considering using similar ignition interlock devices. They are currently proposing these be installed following any drunk driving arrest. But would eventually like to have all cars equipped with alcohol sensors. Currently 17 states require the device to be installed following a DUI conviction.

MSNBC:  To stop first-time convicted drunk drivers from re-offending, the NTSB would like every new offender to be required to have an ignition interlock device in their car. NTSB is asking for the standard even in cases where the initial violation was as low as .08 at the time of arrest.

NTSB says eventually all cars should be built with alcohol sensors.

So the question is: Should an employer be allowed to mandate use of such a sensor during off time? Should the government be allowed to mandate this use?

We allow the government to require safety devices such as seat belts and air bags. Would this be just one more tool? Does it cross the line or does the protection of others mean a limitation of the driver? Is the life of an innocent person injured or killed by a drunk driver worth less than his inconvenience?

Get Your Tricorder Here

tricorder

Star Trek fans will love this. The tricorders from early episodes is closer to reality.

Scientific America: A team of students has designed a Star Trek-inspired sensing device that can beam environmental data to a smart phone. The tricorder device is the team’s response to a challenge from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency: “Is there an effective way to integrate external sensors with smart phones and can we globalize this information?” Applications could range from data collection for research to educational hands-on activities to disaster-zone assessment.

Bones would be proud.
