Parenting Toward Capitalism

In a century already plagued by stories of “crony capitalism” like Halliburton and Solyndra, the concept of capitalism is really getting a bad rap. I decided long ago that the liberal indoctrination of my children through mainstream media would not happen. So, when I see an opportunity to parent them away from destructive messages and toward the highest ideals, I don’t go about it lightly. So that my children will have a proper understanding of capitalism – its merits and its challenges – I work to integrate that concept into my parenting whenever possible.

My thinking has been guided by just a few short lines of Alan Greenspan’s “The Assault on Integrity” (part of Ayn Rand’s Capitalism: The Unknown Self). Success in business, Greenspan said, “[r]equires years of consistently excellent performance.” Further, he argued that

“Capitalism is based on self-interest and self-esteem; it holds integrity and trustworthiness as cardinal virtues and makes them payoff in the marketplace, thus demanding that men survive by means of virtues, not of vices.”

If you like the idea of parenting toward capitalism, here are a few ways to put that theory into practice:

Pay for grades – Pay as much as you possibly can for As (significantly less for Bs). The real world rewards hard work and success with money, so teach them that early. I pay $10 per A and $5 per B. The financial incentive is there to earn the higher grade, and they do.

Charge fees for breaking rules – Tax behaviors you want to curb, right? Left a light on? That’ll cost a quarter to cover the increased electricity bill (got that one from my grandfather).

Give them a budget – When the kids outgrow their clothes, which happens often, it’s time to go shopping. Tell them up front that the excursion isn’t a free-for-all. Recently, for example, my son needed shoes. He wanted a pair of Sketchers ($45), but I had given him a budget of $30. If he wanted something in particular, something outside that budget, I told him, he would need to supplement the cost with his own money. So he waited until we found them on sale at a department store, instead. This might sound harsh – believe me, I get a ton of criticism from my friends about this one – but I figure, if it’s important enough to the kids, they will willingly invest in the purchase; if it’s not, then why would I invest funds above and beyond what I want to spend on the purchase?

Pay interest – When you “borrow” from your child’s cash stash to buy ice cream, pay back the full amount quickly…with interest. They took a risk lending that money (albeit a small one), and with risk comes reward.

Encourage entrepreneurial interests – Does your child want to be a car-washer? Pet-sitter? Lawnboy? My daughter wanted to sell cupcakes door-to-door when she was 8 years old, so we turned her hobby into a business. We gave it a name (Sweetie’s Cupcakery); created a logo; developed a price, order and delivery schedule; and designed a basic budget. As a result of that endeavor, she made almost $200 profit, which she used as spending money on our mother-daughter trip to New York City. Today, she sells duct tape flower pens to kids on her school bus.

Help Them Set Goals –  At the root of most failure is the failure to plan. Financial success involves budgeting. Last year, my daughter decided she wanted a Morkie (designer dog). I told her she needed to save $1,000 in order get the puppy. That sounds like a lot of money, but most Morkies cost around $500. Add vet bills and food and toys, and you can see the need for additional funds. She now has about 1/4 of the money saved, and she has resisted the temptation many times to spend that money on something else. Not only will she be invested in this purchase and be more likely to care for it, but in the time it will take her to save the money, I will be able to gauge her responsibility. This exercise has taught her the value of delayed gratification and of setting a goal and working consistently toward it.

Let Them Fail – This is a hard one. But it’s essential in life, so do it. Just give them a safe place to fall. When my kids experience failure, I wrap my arms around them, tell them I love them and ask them one simple question, “Why do we fall down?” to which they respond, “so we can get back up.” (Yep, I taught them that.)

I doubt they know the term “capitalism” at all, but they are beginning to see the concept at work in their lives. As a result, they have a tremendous amount of respect for money. They don’t leave it in their pockets (to ruin my dryer) or lose it on the playground at school. They keep it in their piggy banks and count it often. When we go somewhere from which they might want to purchase something, they don’t assume I’ll buy it for them – and I’m a fairly generous mom – they bring their own money with them ready to participate fully in the capitalistic society.

Of course, there are other ways a mother could show her children capitalism at work…and many do. They spend hours at malls and restaurants mass consuming. But I’m not seeking to teach my children materialism or overindulgence of any kind. My goals are simple. I want them to recognize that they are the source of their own success, personally and financially. That, while they should be grateful for any love and support they get along the way, they should rely on no one else to achieve that success but themselves. That hard work is the single biggest factor in success, and they should be armed and ready to roll up their sleeves and build that.

Sarah Palin’s Heart and Soul – True Conservative American Convention

Palin has stood and continues to stand on conservative principles that count in American homes.

The recent RNC Convention in Tampa, Florida was missing one of its most essential conservative ingredients to showcase the essence of the conservative 2010 Republican comeback story.  That comeback was largely due to the grassroots organizing tenacity of Sarah Palin.  Whatever the rationale used by the RNC or Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign strategists to keep Palin’s presence on the sidelines, it missed the point of the narrative.  It was therefore incomplete.

There were remarkable women and others, who spoke at the RNC Convention, but Palin is more than a good speech, she is a foundation builder.

Imagine for a moment, if Sarah Palin and the Tea Party Patriots around this nation had listened to the radicalized left and liberal media pundits.  What if they had done “what they were told” to not make noise, to not organize, to keep their passion for America’s future and potential demise to themselves?  The American conservative comeback of 2010 would have been a “might have been” instead of a solid building block for reemerging American patriotism that the movement has become.

Sarah Palin not only helped developed the new political conservative narrative for America, her heart and her soul is the heart and soul of every American patriot who does not need to watch a political convention to be told and shown what is relevant to them.  Rather, the conservative patriots know full well that the true conservative American Convention is a convention held in their homes and communities each and every single day.

What if America had been subjected to Democrat retention of the House in 2010? What if President Obama had been able to continue to steam roll his misguided agenda into other areas beside Obamacare’s?  A House lead by Speaker Nancy Pelosi could easily have given more trillion dollar bailouts to union leaders, government entitlement handouts and granted illegal aliens first in line job training, education and full citizenship rights.  States would be forbidden to arrest and maintain illegal aliens and all borders would be open and free to any illegal alien that wanted to take advantage of America’s welfare and healthcare systems.
The U.S. Constitution would have been even more abused than Obama’s has already done by failing to enforce laws passed by congress, and usurping federal laws by declaring that nearly one million illegal aliens can avoid a federal constitutionally passed law by breaking it through his executive order.  His rationale, “It’s the right thing to do”   usurped the U.S. Constitution’ separation of powers, and made socialist edicts the new law of the land.

President George Washington’s warned against this type of governmental usurpation of the U.S. Constitution.  He stated in his Farewell Address of  1796:, “But let there be no change by usurpation; for though this in one instance may be the instrument of good, it is the customary weapon by which free governments are destroyed. The precedent must always greatly overbalance in permanent evil any partial or transient benefit which the use can at any time yield.

The Tea Party take over in the House with its congressional candidates prevented a much greater devolution of the nation’s constitution.  Instead it was the steady vigilance of the Tea Party Nation in states across America and Sarah Palin who worked tirelessly to insure those victorious outcomes were secured..

Most critically is the religious and moral foundation on which Palin’s pursuit of American conservative convention lies:  President Washington covered this necessity in his 1796 Farewell Speech.  He stated “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness — these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens.

As one can easily surmise, Palin’s embrace of this essential religious and morally principled doctrine successfully guided her in 2010 as well into historic primary wins in states like Texas with Ted Cruz for U.S. Senate.

Instead in the months leading up to the RNC Convention in Tampa, the RNC and Romney camp appeared to focus more on building an assault strategy to showcase at the convention.  They danced away from any attempt to embrace or acknowledge the solid results of a Tea Party conservative revolution and Sarah Palin, a conservative leader who successfully rekindled the Washingtonian beliefs and philosophy“Let it simply be asked, Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice?”
The rekindling of support for those time honored values are more than just a sound bite.  Sarah Palin’s work is solid and there is a new conservative dynamic taking place at dinner tables across America.  The conservative American Convention is televised on social media sites in the tens of millions. The patriots share news on these social networks which are unafraid, un-bought and unbent.

This new social dynamic is the home, where the renaissance of conservative principles, religious ideals and values is the foundation which is as old as the bible and as contemporary as this morning’s kitchen breakfast discussion.  So, in many ways, Sarah Palin’s appearance for one week out of a presidential campaign at a national convention was not as important as keeping her out building and supporting conservative leaders across America.

As her guide, Palin has stood and continues to stand on conservative principles that count in American homes.  As Washington so eloquently phrased it, “And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.”

America will win against an Obama White House and administration that has abandoned moral and religious principles.  America will win in all the November general elections to follow, by listening to the clarion call of an American conservative leader. Palin has traded attempting to fit into the mainstream political culture, and instead has helped create a culture that is true, that is authentically patriotic.

Sarah Palin’s heart and soul is as true as the words and leadership that America’ heroic founding father and first President offered, “The name of American, which belongs to you in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of patriotism.”  This is Sarah Palin and this is her American Convention.

Republican and Democrat: Two Wings of the Same Vulture

The choice of Paul Ryan as the Republican Vice-Presidential candidate almost had me convinced to vote for Mitt Romney in November but once again the Republican Party blew a chance to show me they are above the Democrat Party when it comes to morals, honor, integrity, and concern for the Constitution of the United States of America.  Once again the New World Order globalists who run the Globalist Oligarchy Party (GOP) reminded me why I should vote for John Albert Dummett Jr. (www.johndummett.us), a write-in candidate for the Republican Party in 2012.  At their convention this past week the Republican Party establishment showed me they have no regard for the grassroots workers, the “We the People” they should be looking to for support.  Instead of looking to grassroots conservatives they have once again shown they have no regard for liberty whatsoever.  The party establishment again spits in the face of We the People and tells us “we know better than you, we don’t care what you want, sit down and shut up”.

The Republican convention in Tampa, Florida was another despicable display of tyranny, totalitarianism, and disregard for the voices of We the People.  My first experience with such behavior occurred at the Oklahoma state convention in Norman, Oklahoma last May.  The Oklahoma convention, and the two state committee meetings associated with it, showed a total disregard for a large number of delegates who refused to kowtow to the establishment’s dictatorial rule.  Most of those delegates were Ron Paul supporters but some were not.  I went to the state convention as a delegate from my county, hoping to see a debate and an open battle for the soul of the party.  I was disappointed and disgusted to see the Keystone Kops in charge of the state party apparatus.  Among the problems were a credentialing fiasco, rules ignored, parliamentary procedure ignored, and a large portion of the delegates treated as if they weren’t even there (http://frontporchpolitics.com/2012/05/oklahoma-state-gop-receives-legal-challenge-over-state-convention/ ).  Any semblance of free speech and free expression of ideas was squashed time and again by those in charge of the convention (http://www.conservativedailynews.com/2012/06/oklahoma-republican-party-at-it-again/).  I came away from the state convention disgusted with the Republican Party but with a resolve to work to make things different, to do my best to insure that every delegate would be given the opportunity to have their voice heard in the future.

This past week has deepened my disgust with the Republican Party and the use of Marxist tactics so often used by those in charge of the Democrat Party.  In a series of rule change votes, those running the convention repeatedly ignored the “nay” votes to unilaterally declare the rules changed to suit the Mitt Romney camp and his establishment New World Order bosses (http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/28/over-loud-boos-romney-supporters-pass-new-rules/).  This was the same tactic I saw in Norman, Oklahoma at the state convention in May. 

John Boehner, the main traitor in the House of Representatives, was the worst of the bunch as he ruled “without hearing objection” that the rule change is adopted despite loud voices in the “nay” column (http://www.dailypaul.com/252144/txgop-evidence-shows-rnc-rigged-vote-on-rule-change-at-republican-convention-2012).  The video of this atrocity can be found in the following link, with the teleprompter showing the decision had already been made before the vote was called for. This wasn’t the only case of dictatorial rule at the convention but it is the most egregious example of tyrannical action I have seen in my lifetime.  I have heard reports of Ron Paul delegates being refused credentials, entry into the convention, and being misdirected to wrong locations until after votes were taken.  The Romney campaign advisors are the ones who pushed this action to effectively silence any dissent to their power grab (http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/politics/item/12660-republican-convention-rules-changes-how-the-establishment-stole-the-gop).  They are only interested in getting their way and have absolutely no desire to hear the opinions of those who disagree with their ideas.  As it now stands, the party hierarchy can change the rules at any time, without another vote, to suit any situation they find themselves desiring to sidestep.

This is the group that tells us they are the ones to lead us to liberty and a better nation for all, and that I should vote a straight party line ballot to insure that they have the numbers in government that they need to govern in “my best interests”.  Excuse me if I sound skeptical but isn’t this convention a prime example of what we DON’T want our government to be?  If they are willing to perpetrate this kind of tyranny at a party nominating convention what will they do if they control the entire government?

These are the people who pledge to make America a better and more free nation yet behave like dictators at their own convention, a time when dissent should be heard and compromises made to achieve unity.  What the establishment and the Romney camp call “unity” really isn’t unity at all.  We saw an example of Soviet Russia, Nazi Germany, Communist China, Communist Cuba, Islamic Iran, and Marxist Venezuela style “unity” in Tampa this week.  The “unity” raved about by the establishment of the party is no more than the political execution of free speech and the disenfranchisement of a great many party delegates, along with the voters they represented at the convention.  These disenfranchised delegates are men and women who spent their own money and time to attend the convention in hopes of having their voices heard in the “American Way”, but instead found themselves treated like “enemies of the state” by the very people who call for a free exchange of ideas and opinions.

So Mitty, tell me again how you are better than Barack Obama. Tell me again how you will offer more opportunity to live in freedom from dictatorship and slavery.  John Boehner, tell me again how you are a leader, unlike Nancy Pelosi, and how you will change the way business is done in the House of Representatives if I send you another Republican to help you.  Mitch McConnell, tell me again how you have more regard for liberty and the tenets of the Constitution than Dingy Harry Reid.

I will vote for the Republican candidate in the Oklahoma 2nd Congressional District because I believe in him.  I believe Markwayne Mullin will not vote to return Traitor John Boehner to the position of Speaker of the House.  I also believe Mr. Mullin will represent me in a manner that is within the scope of the Constitution of the United States of America; with, honor, integrity, and concern for conservative values.

I WILL NOT vote for Mitty the Poo, the all-white Obama, under any circumstances.  I will not vote for more tyranny because it has an “R” instead of a “D” behind its name.  I have heard so many people who find Mitty reprehensible but will vote for him because they want to remove Obama from office.  I have seen enough from the Romney camp to realize that just changing dictators is not the answer to our nation’s woes.

The answer to our nation’s problems will come only when WE THE PEOPLE rise up and refuse to continue the circular firing squad of a New World Order Republican this time and a New World Order Democrat next time and a New World Order Republican next, etc.  Both political parties have shown their true colors, and those colors are the red flag of Communism. 

I WILL NOT COMPLY!!!!! with tyranny from either political party.

Dang! I Missed Todd Akin’s Keynote Address

Life for a Comcast customer can be so frustrating. I’ve just gone 10 rounds with my DVR and the cable guide’s “search” malfunction. And I sit here in abject defeat.

My goal was to program it so I wouldn’t miss Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin’s keynote speech at the Republican Convention. After all, this man has skyrocketed to the top of GOP intellectual circles with his reasoned discourse on the intersection between female reproductive organs and the criminal justice system.

Akin single handedly destroyed the Obama campaign’s communication plan. Instead of continuing to trumpet Obama’s successful record as an engine of jobs creation and economic titan, campaign flaks are now forced to focus on abortion, just like it was the 90’s all over again.

So you can understand why I didn’t want to miss the crowd’s ovation as Akin discussed ovulation. But now Akin’s moment in the sun has come and gone, and I missed it.

Instead I’ve been trying to decide where I went wrong in my initial judgment on Akin. Before the Washington Post, the New York Times and various broadcasting networks made him chairman of the GOP and Romney & Ryan’s running mate, I had considered Akin an egregious violator of one of the cardinal rules for political candidates: male politicians should never discuss a woman’s private parts.

Those organs are mysterious. A combustible mix of plumbing, hormones and resentment, somehow based on perceived male deficiencies in telecommunication and “understanding.”

Which means the specifics of reproduction have no place in a male’s campaign issue grid. Instead one merely acknowledges that babies are conceived through a process that will remain somewhat ill–defined [closely resembling the specifics of my father’s discussion of “the birds and bees”] and then move on to a stirring defense of the unborn child’s right to life.

When Akin said, “From what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare … If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways of shutting that down,” the comment allowed Democrats to focus on the outrage done to the first victim, the woman, and ignore the outrage they want to perpetrate on the second victim, the unborn child.

This Akin shuffle works to the advantage of “choice” supporters because there is a fundamental hypocrisy at the heart of Democrat insistence on abortion in the case of “rape, incest and the health of the mother.” (Republican fellow–travelers substitute the word “life” for “health” because even they agree “anxiety” on the part of the mother is not sufficient cause for abortion.)

That hypocrisy is found in the contrast between fervent Democrat opposition to the imposition of capital punishment on the rapist and the unyielding advocacy for the application of capital punishment on the unborn. What this does is visit the punishment for the crime of the father on the innocent child — a system of jurisprudence favored by Nazis and Communists, as has been noted elsewhere.

Pro–life supporters have trouble persuading the uncommitted public on this difficult issue because the rape victim is tangible and visible, while the child is at least initially invisible and potential. Fortunately a brilliant television commercial by the Susan B. Anthony List will, I hope, make our job easier.

The spot is titled, “How Will You Answer?” and it is found at: http://www.sba-list.org/ (on the home page click on “How Will You Answer?” on the upper right). The commercial showcases Melissa Ohden who is the survivor of a botched abortion. Her tiny body — or clump of tissue, if you are a Planned UnParenthood contributor — was casually discarded after an abortion. But Melissa was still alive and her faint cries touched the heart of one of the nurses who saved her life by literally removing her from the garbage can.

Ms. Ohden, as far as I know, was not the product of a rape, but she makes the point just the same. Life is life whether conceived in love, violence or indifference. These unborn babies deserve the same Constitutional protections granted to rapists. John F. Kennedy said life isn’t fair and certainly carrying a child to term after a rape qualifies as manifestly unfair.  However it’s nine months of discomfort for the mother as opposed to the eternity of death for the child.

Watching Melissa Ohden tell her story puts everything in perspective, whether the topic is babies that survive a late–term abortion — her specific issue — or those executed after a rape. The ad is currently running in Missouri where one hopes Akin will graciously let Ms. Ohden assume future responsibility for the topic.

As for me, I’m learning all I can about how to program my DVR. I certainly wouldn’t want to miss Akin’s speech at the inauguration.

Remarks prepared by the Republican National Convention

In 1980, I watched my first Republican Convention with my grandfather.

He was born to a farming family in rural Cuba. Childhood polio left him permanently disabled.

Because he couldn’t work the farm, his family sent him to school, and he became the only one in the family who could read.

As a boy, I would sit on our porch and listen to his stories about history, politics and baseball while he puffed on one of his three daily Padron cigars.

I don’t recall everything we talked about, but the one thing I remember, is the one thing he wanted me to never forget. The dreams he had when he was young became impossible to achieve.

But because I was an American, there was no limit to how far I could go.

For those of us who were born and raised in this country, it’s easy to forget how special America is. But my grandfather understood how different America is from the rest of world.

Tonight, you’ll hear from another man who understands what makes America exceptional.

Mitt Romney knows America’s prosperity didn’t happen because our government simply spent more. It happened because our people used their own money to open a business.

And when they succeed, they hire more people, who then invest or spend their money in the economy, helping others start a business and create jobs.

Mitt Romney’s success in business is well known. But he’s more than that.

He’s a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. A generous member of his community and church.

Everywhere he’s been, he’s volunteered his time and talent to make things better for those around him.

We are blessed that soon, he will be the President of the United States.

Our problem with President Obama isn’t that he’s a bad person. By all accounts, he too is a good husband, and a good father … and thanks to lots of practice, a pretty good golfer.

Our problem is he’s a bad President.

The new slogan for the President’s campaign is “Forward”.

A government that spends one trillion dollars more than it takes in.

An 800 billion dollar stimulus that created more debt than jobs.

A government intervention into healthcare paid for with higher taxes and cuts to Medicare.

Scores of new rules and regulations.

These ideas don’t move us “Forward”, they take us “Backwards.”

These are old, big government ideas.

Ideas that people come to America to get away from.

Ideas that threaten to make America more like the rest of the world, instead of helping the world become more like America.

Under Barack Obama, the only “Change” is that “Hope” has been hard to find.

Now millions of Americans are insecure about their future. But instead of inspiring us by reminding us of what makes us special, he divides us against each other.

He tells Americans they’re worse off because others are better off. That people got rich by making others poor.

Hope and Change has become Divide and Conquer.

No matter how you feel about President Obama, this election is about your future, not his. And it’s not simply a choice between a democrat and a republican.

It’s a choice about what kind of country we want America to be.

We should remember what made us special. For most of history almost everyone was poor. Power and wealth belonged to only a few.

Your rights were whatever your rulers allowed you to have. Your future was determined by your past.

If your parents were poor, so would you be. If you were born without opportunities, so were your children.

But America was founded on the principle that every person has God-given rights.

That power belongs to the people.

That government exists to protect our rights and serve our interests.

That we shouldn’t be trapped in the circumstances of our birth. That we should be free to go as far as our talents and work can take us.

We’re united not by a common race or ethnicity. We’re bound together by common values.

That family is the most important institution in society. That almighty God is the source of all we have.

We’ve never made the mistake of believing that we are so smart that we can rely solely on our leaders or our government.

Our national motto “In God we Trust” reminding us that faith in our Creator is the most important American value of all.

And, we’ve always understood the scriptural admonition that “for everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required.”

We are a blessed people. And we have honored those blessings with the enduring example of an exceptional America.

I know that for so many of you, these last few years have tested your faith in the promise of America.

Maybe you are at an age when you thought you would be entering retirement. But instead, because your savings and investments are wiped out, you have to go back to work.

Maybe, after years of hard work, this was the time you expected to be your prime earning years. But instead, you’ve been laid off, and your house is worth less than your mortgage.

Maybe you did everything you where told you needed to do to get ahead.

You studied hard and finished school. But now, you owe thousands of dollars in student loans. You can’t find a job in your field. And you’ve moved back in with your parents.

You want to believe we’re still that place where anything is possible. But things just don’t seem to be getting better. And you are starting to wonder if things will ever be the same again.

Yes, we live in a troubled time. But the story of those who came before us, reminds us that America has always been about new beginnings.

If we are willing to do for our children, what our parents did for us, life in America can be better than it has ever been.

My mother was one of seven girls, whose parents went to bed hungry so their children wouldn’t. My father lost his mother when he was nine. He left school, and went to work for the next seventy years.

They emigrated to America with little more than the hope of a better life.

My Dad was a bartender. My Mom was a cashier, a maid, and a stock clerk at K-Mart. They never made it big. They were never rich.

And yet they were successful. Because just a few decades removed from hopelessness, they made possible for us all the things that had been impossible for them.

Many nights I heard my father’s keys jingling at the door as he came home after another 16-hour day. Many mornings, I woke up just as my mother got home from the overnight shift at K-Mart.

When you’re young, the meaning of these moments escapes you. But now, as my own children get older, I understand it better.

My Dad used to tell us: “En este pais, ustedes van a poder lograr todas las cosas que nosotros no pudimos” “In this country, you will be able to accomplish all the things we never could.”

A few years ago during a speech, I noticed a bartender behind a portable bar at the back of the ballroom. I remembered my father who had worked so long as a banquet bartender.

He was grateful for the work he had, but that’s not the life he wanted for us.

He stood behind a bar in the back of the room all those years, so one day I could stand behind a podium in the front of a room.

That journey, from behind that bar to behind this podium, goes to the essence of the American miracle… that we’re exceptional not because we have more rich people here.

We’re special because dreams that are impossible anywhere else, come true here.

That’s not just my story. That’s our story. It’s the story of your mother who struggled to give you what she never had.

It’s the story of your father who worked two jobs so doors closed for him would open for you.

The story of that teacher or that coach who taught you the lessons that shaped who you are today.

And it’s the story of a man who was born into an uncertain future in a foreign country. His family came to America to escape revolution.

They struggled through poverty and the great depression. And yet he rose to be an admired businessman, and public servant.

And in November, his son, Mitt Romney, will be elected President of the United States.

We are all just a generation or two removed from someone who made our future the purpose of their lives.

America, is the story of everyday people, who did extraordinary things. A story woven deep into the fabric of our society.

Their stories may never be famous, but in the lives they lived, you find the living essence of America’s greatness.

To make sure America is still a place where tomorrow is always better than yesterday, that is what our politics should be about.

And that is what we are deciding in this election.

Do we want our children to inherit our hopes and dreams, or do we want them to inherit our problems?

If we succeed in changing the direction of our country, our children and grandchildren, will be the most prosperous generation ever, and their achievements will astonish the world.

The story of our time will be written by Americans who haven’t yet been born.

Let’s make sure they write that we did our part.

That we chose more freedom instead of more government.

We chose the principles of our founding to solve the challenges of our time.

We chose Mitt Romney to lead our nation.

And because we did, the American Miracle lived on for another generation to inherit.

 

GOP Adopts 95% of the ‘Freedom Platform’

While the Republican Party and the Tea Party are still two vastly different factions, the Republicans Party is beginning to accept some of the grassroots ideals of the Tea Party. For the first time the Republican Party is accepting official party planks from grassroots organizations.RNC 2012

Last week, it was released that the GOP had accepted 11.5 of 12 planks which were part of the Freedom Platform, a platform developed straight from the people and the grassroots organization, FreedomWorks. The Freedom Platform embraces all forms of Conservatism and limited-government.

FreedomWorks asked their activists to go online and participate in a survey. In that survey they were asked to choose between two randomly selected policy-based questions. From the selections of close to 1.2 million people, and town-hall meetings with activists across the country, the Freedom Platform was developed. This ensured that the platform would include all of the policies that represented the grassroots.

The GOP platform will include almost every plank of the crowd-sourced Freedom Platform. In
other words, 95 percent of the grassroots’ top priorities are being adopted as priorities for the
Republican Party.

Thanks to the efforts of an engaged fiscal conservative constituency, Republicans have
committed to repeal ObamaCare and pursue patient-centered reforms that return the decision-
making power from the government back to doctors and patients. The Republicans are
also committed to stopping the impending tax hikes, reversing the Obama spending spree,
implementing accountability for balancing the budget, and restoring fairness to our tax system
by pursuing a flatter tax.

Mirroring the Freedom Platform, the GOP platform strongly rejects cap-and-trade, protects
small businesses from the Environmental Protection Agency’s costly over-regulation, and
commits to unleashing America’s vast domestic energy potential. The Republican platform also
pledges to institute an annual audit of the Federal Reserve.

The only element of the Freedom Platform the GOP didn’t accept was the proposal to eliminate
the Department of Education. This proposal was actually a major plank of the Republican
platform from 1980 to 2000, until then-Gov. George W. Bush had it removed. Even so, the 2012 platform contains good language on the need for local control of education, as well as a very strong endorsement of school choice, both of which are key reforms supported by grassroots conservatives nationwide.

The 2012 GOP platform isn’t perfect by any means, but it represents significant progress within
the Republican Party in recognizing the importance of embracing bold, fiscal conservative
solutions for our nation’s myriad problems. While the Republican Party’s new platform reflects
well on its willingness to take a stand for principled policies, it also says a lot about how the Tea
Party has grown in lasting political influence.

No longer “just” a massive protest movement or even a well-oiled “Get out the Vote” machine,
the Tea Party has matured into a strong, focused policy powerhouse. The success of the Freedom Platform should forever put to rest the ridiculous notion that Tea Party conservatives
are incapable of engaging in the mainstream political arena without compromising their
principles. Grassroots conservatives stood firmly behind principled policies, and the Republican
Party listened.

This victory doesn’t mean the bottom-up campaign of individuals for sound economic policy
is over. Tea Partiers are still wary of the establishment, and no political party can ease the
grassroots into complacency with platform promises.

Finally the time has come that the Republican Party, a party which by all accounts in full of Progressive-lites, has finally taken a major step toward true fiscal and social Conservatism by adopting 95% of the Freedom Platform. While we should be excited that the GOP has adopted these planks, we shouldn’t let our guard down. We must make sure that the GOP and the Republican leaders follow through.

America Needs the Tea Party More Than America Needs the GOP

Explaining his endorsement of the current White House occupant on the administration’s infrastructure spending, healthcare reform, and position on abortion, Florida’s former Republican Governor Charlie Crist endorsed him on the eve of the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa.

Crist has betrayed American taxpayers before.  He supported the $787 billion “stimulus” boondoggle, which did little to fund shovel ready infrastructure projects but went a long way towards rewarding big “progressive” 2008 presidential campaign bundlers who “just happened” to run “green energy” companies with lucrative loan guarantees and grants.  It also bailed out state and local governments guilty of practicing irresponsible fiscal policies for decades, especially where spending on government sector union contracts was concerned.  It was no accident that the lion’s share of “stimulus” spending “just happened” to have gone to “blue states”.   Crist’s decision to support the highly partisan, pork stuffed “stimulus” bill helped get the monstrous waste of money through Congress.

“Moderate Republican” go-along to get-along me-first career politicians who, like Crist are so willing to compromise with the institutionalized “progressive” left cannot be trusted.

Tea Party principles are America’s principles.  To an intolerable degree, “Moderate Republicans” do not believe in or follow Tea Party principles. Quite often they appear to be completely devoid of principles.  They game the political system to gain power and prestige for themselves and themselves alone. They will turn on Americans faster than you can say Specter.

Conservative Tea Party Americans like Allen West, Marco Rubio, Jim DeMint, Pat Toomy, Rand Paul, Ron Johnson Michele Bachmann, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee have the guts to stand against the institutionalized “progressive” left.  They have the willingness, backbone and fortitude to preserve individual liberties, restore the U.S. Constitution, and a return to constitutionally limited government, a balanced budget, equal opportunity and equal protection under the law for all Americans.

Today’s Democratic Party is not your father’s Democratic Party.  They keep insisting that Tea Party Republicans and their affiliates are “extreme”.  Since when are protecting individual liberties, following the U.S. Constitution, having constitutionally limited government and a balanced budget extreme?

The Tea Party’s positions are extreme only when seen as standing in the way of establishing an all-powerful, centrally planned big government controlled by a self-appointed oligarchy of self-imagined “intellectual elites” i.e. a Communist state.

The institutionalized “progressive” left in 2012 America is acting exactly like every other Communist power grab in history.  They lie, cheat and steal to win elections.  Then they will lie, cheat, steal and kill to consolidate and strengthen their grip on unrestrained power.

The institutionalized “progressive” left complains about how “extreme” Tea Party Republicans refuse to compromise.  The Tea Party knows that Communists have no interest in compromising with anyone.  The institutionalized “progressive” left’s negotiating position has been, is, and will continue to be: What’s Yours is Negotiable, What’s Mine is Not.  Those who hold this negotiating position, when they do finally obtain an iron grip on unrestrained power, do not compromise with their political opposition.  They eliminate them…permanently.

America is at an historic crossroads.  The 2012 election will determine what life in America will be like for the next and following generations.

In the words of Ronald W. Reagan, 40th President of the United States of America:

“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

2016: Obama’s America Was No.1 At Box Offices Friday

Dinesh D‘Souza’s documentary on President Obama, “2016: Obama’s America” began playing nationwide on Friday, playing in 1,090 theatres, and it opened as the #1 movie in domestic box offices, Deadline reports.

2016 is only playing in a third of the theaters that some big budget, box office hits are playing in, such as The Expendables 2, which is playing in 3,335 theaters. 2016 is a documentary where D’Souza travels around the world, retracing the steps of Obama as a youth, and it is surely showing promise with Americans. Rocky Mountain Pictures released the documentary.

The Expendables 2 will likely finish at the top of the box office at the end of the weekend, but 2016 will likely hold its own only falling a spot or two on the list. It is expected to make between $4-$5 million dollars by the end of the weekend.

Deadline had the exclusive on this report:

The Stallone picture from Millenium/Lionsgate is still expected to end the weekend #1 and should top the box office tonight. And, based on matinee trends, 2016 Obama’s America looks to gross $1.2M-$1.7M Friday for a $3.7M-$5.0M weekend.

But right now it has grossed $700,000 today compared to $300,000 for The Expendables 2. Its new cume after this weekend could make it the #1 conservative documentary (ahead of Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed’s $7.7M). The success of the anti-Obama pic is based on big pre-sales leading into the Republican National Convention August 27-30, and exhibitors are reporting busloads of filmgoers arriving at theaters around the country in pre-organized trips. It also employed much of the same marketing techniques used to garner attention and support for faith-based films, understandable since the audience is overlapping. Its campaign included advertising nationally over the past two weeks on talk radio and cable news channels including Fox News Channel, A&E, History and MSNBC.

Both online ticket-sellers Fandango and MovieTickets.com showed advance buying for 2016 Obama’s America were accounting for 35% to 28% respectively before this weekend. The pic is based on conservative author and commentator Dinesh D’Souza’s New York Times bestselling 2010 book The Roots Of Obama’s Rage and co-directed by D’Souza and John Sullivan and produced by Academy Award winner Gerald R. Molen (co-producer of Schindler’s List). It opened on July 13th in a preview on a single screen in Texas grossing almost $32,000 during its opening weekend, then expanded into 61 theaters including New York and Los Angeles. In August, the film widened to 169 theaters nationwide and expanded again this weekend. “Yes, I also didn’t believe it when I first saw the film taking off in pre-sales on Tuesday,” an exhibition insider tells me. “Because there’s not a lot of new product that’s taking off.”

2016: D’Souza’s Vision of America under President Barack Obama

Dinesh D’Souza’s new movie 2016: Obama’s America opened in local theaters here in my home town of Rochester, Minnesota and was practically sold out its first night. While D’Souza doesn’t introduce any one fact that I had not already heard, he skillfully gathers all the facts together into one place creating a complete mosaic that explains the odd and mystifying behavior of the nation’s first African-American President.

D’Souza is a foreign-born Indian-American and conservative commentator and writer who is currently the President of King’s College in New York City. I have one of his books on my shelf, “What is so Great About Christianity”. The movie is based on two of his books exploring the life of Barack Obama and his odd affinity to a father he never really knew, Barack Obama Sr. D’Souza paints a great picture in the movie of the framing of Barack’s identity as a person and explains his actions as President of the United States. According to D’Souza, Obama is like his father in that he is a radical leftist anti-colonialist who seeks to downgrade American Greatness as revenge for all of the ills brought upon the third world in his view by the West. His policies, D’Souza says, goes beyond the leftist thinking of past liberal American Presidents like Carter and Clinton, and even Kennedy and can only be explained through the radical socialist, anti-colonialist prism. The president’s first action, the mystifying act of returning the bust of Winston Churchill to the Brits is a subconscious expression of Obama’s anti-colonial views. Churchill is the quintessential icon of the West and Colonial Powers.

I liked the way D’Souza brought all the elements together in the movie, especially his in person interviews with people who contributed to the book. The most interesting of those interview was the one with Barack Obama’s half-brother George, who had been living in a hut in Africa. A clip of that interview can be found here. George has apparently written a book in which he states that he does not blame the west for Africa’s problems and points out that where countries have had the continued influence of the United States and the West, those countries have flourished, while those nations which have removed their colonial occupiers have suffered under failed socialist policies.

If left to his own devises and re-elected, D’Souza implies that America circa 2016 under the leadership of Barack Obama will be quite different than the America of today, an America in economic decline, no longer a first world superpower, but more like a nation of the third world. D’Souza doesn’t politicize the movie, he makes no recommendations about the upcoming elections, nothing is said overtly about the challenger, but it is pretty clear what is implied, a new regime with someone else at the helm.

I recommend everyone watch this movie where they can find it. It has a limited run, only two days in my city, so set time aside to see it, or better yet, read D’Souza’s books. I would also like to note that there were not a lot of people under the age of 40 at the theater. That is a sad commentary in itself. If you have young adult relatives or teens in your home, bring them kicking and screaming to this movie. They can go see Batman later. Another sad commentary on my evening at the movies: one of Rochester PD’S finest guarding the lobby. The times we live in I’m afraid.

The Republican Party: The Party of Pathetic Progressive Cowards

I have been listening to the cacophony of cowardly Republicans jumping all over Congressman Todd Akin of Missouri concerning his comments about rape and abortion a few days ago.  I understand that what he said was ill-advised but he tried to answer a very tough question instead of dodging it as most politicians would do.  He did manage to make a mess of it but has attempted to make amends in a very humble and honorable fashion.  Akin has apologized profusely, explained what he actually meant, explained where he got the information he was basing his statement on, and has also acknowledged that he spoke on facts that he now knows were feasible but questionable.  The man made a mistake in the way he stated his point and the entire Republican Party is throwing him to the wolves for it.

 I was listening to him on the Sean Hannity Radio Show today and it reminded me of why I rarely listen to that political hack (www.mediaite.com).  Rep. Akin explained himself, AGAIN, and said he was staying in the race.  Hack Hannity complains daily about the double standard in the media yet he is the first one to dive into the double standard, urging Akin to get out because he will “hurt the Republican Party”.  Hack Hannity must have “suggested” he step aside a dozen times in the few minutes Akin was on the radio.  How does one whine about a double standard and then jump right into the middle of that same double standard?  Isn’t that being a bit hypocritical?

Republican National  Committee chairman Reince Preibus and a whole bunch of former Missouri “moderate” RINO cowards are urging Akin to get out and let someone else run against Claire McCaskill, one of the most liberal of senators and an Obama doormat.  I heard today on the Hannity hack show that the “moderate” Mitt Romney is also urging Akin to step aside, “for the good of the party”.  What a bunch of slap fighting sissies!!! 

The reason Republicans can’t win is people like me are fed up with the cowardly actions of the party establishment.  Every time some liberal hollers boo they go hide under their beds and cry for their mommy.  Akin is a staunch supporter of the FairTax, has voted against all of the big spending Democrat legislation, voted no on raising the debt ceiling (http://akin.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1641&Itemid=88), against the wishes of John Boehner and the other RINO’s in the party, and has voted against the party leadership on many other occasions because he values principal over politics.  AHA!!! I think I just struck on the problem Akin has today.  He actually shows honor, integrity, and backbone so he must be thrown to the wolves by the cowards of the party establishment.

I have said before, and I will repeat here, that I have more respect for Harry Reid, Dingy Harry Reid, than I do for John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and a host of others in the Republican Party.  Harry Reid will stand up in your face and say “SCREW YOU!!!“ when he has a different opinion.  Republicans, on the other hand, cower and beg for someone to let them do a little bit of what they want to do.  Reid has refused to pass a budget for 3 years because John Boehner doesn’t have enough backbone to force the issue.  Boehner the traitor passes one Continuing Resolution after another to keep Harry Reid, and fellow Republicans, from being forced to take a vote on a budget.  Boehner doesn’t want the budget “to be an issue right before an election”.  So much for the resolve needed to solve the financial problems of our nation. He will let Democrats go right on spending like there is no tomorrow because he doesn’t have the courage to take a stand.  And we ousted Pelosi for this wimp?  I don’t see a gain here.  The spending hasn’t dropped one iota since Boehner took over the speakership, and Akin is the one who is destroying voter confidence in the Republican Party?  I don’t think so!!

 And now to Mitty the Poo Romney.  I never thought he was the one America needs, until he picked Paul Ryan for his VP choice.  Finally, I thought, Mitty actually found a spine.  Then today comes and he is back to his cowardly “moderate” ways of throwing anything or anyone conservative to the wolves (http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/08/21/Romney-Calls-For-Akin-To-Step-Down). 

I have lived for 24 years with the “vote for this guy and we will get a conservative next election cycle” story.  It isn’t going to happen as long as We the People rely on the Progressive Republican Party to represent our conservative views.  Conservatism gets hammered by Republicans every time it sticks its head up.  Once again we see the lack of backbone that has kept Democrats in power, for the most part, over the last 60 years.  I saw this in 2010 when Charles Thompson, a staunch Constitutional Conservative, was running for the Oklahoma 2nd Congressional seat held by Democrat Dan Boren.  Charles refused to sell We the People out for his own benefit and the RNC refused to help him at all.  Charles lost the election by about 6% in a race that had not been closer than a 70%-30% split since Tom Coburn left for the Senate.  This is the attitude of the Republican establishment towards conservatives.

As long as we conservative voters rely on meeley mouthed cowards to represent us we will never solve the problems facing our nation.  Republicans have been a huge part of the problem because they lack the courage and the integrity to stand up for what they say they believe in.  They are real good at criticizing and back seat driving but they lack the fortitude to govern responsibly.

I was told a few weeks ago that there is no place for me in the Republican Party because I am critical of Mitty the Poo and the Republican establishment. I was told I need to either get behind the establishment totally or get out of the Republican Party and go Independent.  I told this person that I am exactly what the Republican Party needs, a person with the courage to stand up and tell Dingy Harry “SCREW YOU!!! we will do it right and bury you under public support”.  Maybe the man was right; maybe there isn’t a place in the Republican Party for a conservative with the backbone to stand up and speak boldly for true conservatism.  Courage and straight talk doesn’t seem to be appreciated in the Republican Party, nor does there seem to be a place for forgiveness.

 I say “crapola” on this hurting the Republican Party.  To me Akin’s show of repentance, courage, and the resolve to fight through this is refreshing.  I want to see men and women who will stand up for America and conservative values.  We the People need men and women who we can count on to stand up for us.  Look at what the establishment has done to Michele Bachman over the Muslim Brotherhood thing.  She and a few, a very few, others stand up for liberty and our way of life, and look what happens.  These same “moderates” that now throw Todd Akin under the bus castigated Bachmann for having the temerity to care about American values, American ideals, and the liberty guaranteed by the Constitution.

It is time for the Republican Party to show We the People they deserve our votes.  This whining about a “double standard in the media” just doesn’t cut it any longer, especially when they participate in such behavior themselves.  It is time to go out and find a spine.  Mitt Romney is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.  Why not spend some of that money on spines for all of the establishment elites of the party and give We the People, the conservative people, something to hang our hats on.  If they can’t stand with us now they don’t deserve our votes in November. 

Todd Akin is the sacrificial lamb Republicans will use to explain away any losses, just as Sarah Palin was McCain’s scapegoat in 2008.  America is going down the tubes to dictatorship because Republicans either don’t have the courage to change our path or they are complicit and desire to see a Third World toilet dictatorship established here.  Which is it Republican Party establishment?

The Top Ten Reasons Why Socialism is Wrong

1. Marx’s Labor Theory of Value, adapted from Ricardo, is wrong. Work is not exploitation and profit is not theft. (For more on this subject see Schumpeter’s Capitalism, Socialism, and Democracy.)

2. Historical Materialism begs the question of human agency. It is unexplained how socialists come to have consciousness that is “authentic,” while capitalists have “false consciousness.” Marx’s theory underplays the role of ideas and ethics in economies (i.e. the “superstructure” of the economy that is but a reflection of materialist forces).

3. There is the unresolved question of how classes arose to begin with. Did they arise through the use of coercion to repress lower classes? Did they arise due to inequalities in human characteristics?Did classes arise because of the private ownership of the means of production? If so, then why are there social classes or castes in countries that have cooperative, collective, or tribal social-economic arrangements?

4. Marxism is a self-stultifying ideology that renders life meaningless. Mankind’s desire to achieve is obviously due to human nature, and not materialist forces. It is no coincidence that socialist societies lead to high levels of anomie and alienation, contrary to Marxist claims to the contrary that capitalism causes such social effects. The reason such maladies are prevalent in socialist countries is because social valuation of the individual is diminished to nearly nothing.

5. Marx’s theory of historical materialism and the “inevitable triumph of socialism,” is obviously flawed. Socialism lasting any considerable period of time in a polity has always developed due to Marxist-Leninist or Maoist radicals ushering in bloody putsches or coup d’etats in economically backwards states. This is the opposite of what Marx predicted. Marxism predicted that there would be spontaneous worker’s revolts in advanced capitalist societies around the globe, and not elite-organized socialist “revolutions” in backwards countries like Russia and China. World War I exposed the false notion held by socialists that the war would lead to a worker’s strike and mass defections from the armies due to “workers’ solidarity.”

6. Marx’s claim that the “Iron Law of Wages” would lead inexorably to a decline in standard of living among the proletariat tending towards subsistence living is incorrect. In the most advanced capitalist states, the standard of living increased ever upwards. This is because an economy based on mass production leads to cheaper goods and a competitive labor market buoys demand and wages for skilled labor. The counter-argument that the standard of living increased due to labor unions is obviously false in the U.S.; labor unions in America have always been relatively weak and many times unions claim labor improvements that arose due to market competition. One former union boss who spoke at an Occupy DC rally recently confessed that “progressive labor is a revolutionary communist organization.” Unions are a type of labor cartel that makes profitable businesses increasingly unfeasible.

7. Equality of means has not been achieved in any socialist state of any kind in world history. Every single socialist state has been led by elites with a miserable underclass far underfoot. I defy a socialist to name one counterfactual. The underclass is typically lied to (e.g. offered “Bread, land and peace,” but receiving none of the sort), and the disparity between rich and poor actually increases after the “revolution.” So ironically, socialist policies lead to greater inequality of means, rather than more equality. 8. The fraudulent obsession with equality espoused by socialists was perhaps best summed up by Margaret Thatcher, who in a speech to the socialist opposition, demonstrated the absurdity of her opponents’ position. While gesticulating with her fingers to illustrate her concept visually, she showed that “(Socialists) would rather the poor be poorer, provided the rich were less rich.” [See: “Margaret Thatcher on Socialism” on YouTube.]

9. Socialism is only a critique of capitalism and not a self-sufficient economic system. It advises how to redistribute wealth, but not how to create it. Socialists are unable to persuasively answer the “then what?” question of what happens when capitalism is destroyed or it collapses. Apparently, eternal prosperity ensues, but the causal linkage is not adequately explained.

10. Socialism is not consistent with human nature. Human beings are not innately altruists, because as a species, mankind is driven by the desire to procreate, and all that seminal act entails. Societies have succeeded based on hunting, gathering, production, and even war, but redistribution is a static and deteriorating model of economic organization.

The implication of modeling an economic system on socialist redistribution for the contrived ethic of “equality” is no less than the destruction of civilization itself. And this is by design. Marx set out to foment world revolution prior to developing the philosophical system that justified it. As Marx quoted Goethe in the Eighteenth Brumaire, “All that exists deserves to perish.”

When Mitt Romney chose Rep. Paul Ryan to be his running mate nine days ago, he forced Democrats to engage in serious intellectual debate in the coming weeks and months, rather than demagoguing which has been the main practice of the Obama/Biden campaign as of yet.

Well, that’s what one would have thought, because, well, conventional wisdom says so. However, in the latter, Democrats and the left have tried to demonize Paul Ryan in every way absolutely imaginable. The day after the announcement of Paul Ryan to be the running-mate of Mitt Romney, the attacks started. From Ryan’s budget, to a ‘war on women’, to Ryan ‘pushing grandma off of the cliff’, let’s debunk five myths about Paul Ryan.

1. The Ryan Plan Destroys Medicare.

The Liberal New York Congressman, Rep. Steve Israel has recently claimed that the Romney/Ryan ticket is a “nightmare for seniors who’ve earned their Medicare benefits. For the last 18 months, we’ve said Republicans will have to defend the indefensible—their vote to end Medicare.” The Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been running around spewing lies claiming that the Ryan Plan would end Medicare as we know it. This wouldn’t be the first time that Schultz has lied, or probably the last. Look at what she said regarding presidential tax returns and Mitt Romney.

The Wyden-Ryan Medicare Plan – yes that is Democratic Senator Ron Wyden from Oregon – says that the plan will not affect anyone over 55. Anyone over 55 wouldn’t see a change in their plans or their benefits. Anyone under 55 wouldn’t either, unless they voluntarily chose to take part in the Plan. Washington would still be paying the premiums for the healthcare choices you made, and if you believed in the basic principles of free-market capitalism, this would improve the services while driving down the cost.

Furthermore, the liberal leaning Urban Institute recently found that the average citizen will pay $149,000 in Medicare taxes, while only taking out $351,000 in medical services during retirement. In reality, the party that doesn’t want to reform Medicare, and who doesn’t want to ‘change Medicare as we know it’, is single-handedly destroying the system from the inside out.

2. Paul Ryan is a Constitutional Obstructionist

According to a recent Gallup Poll, the 112th Congress’ approval rating has hit an all-time low. Of course, Obama, his administration, and his campaign blame the GOP for the gridlock in Congress, which may we not forget; Paul Ryan is a part of. It’s not necessarily fair, considering the House has passed massive amount of bills that focus on economic recovery that have been killed by Harry Reid in the Senate. May we also not forget that, a) Obama’s ‘serious’ budget was rejected by everyone in both the House and the Senate, and b) Ryan’s Budget passed the House by a vote of  228-191.

Contrary to what the President said yesterday during his surprise visit to the press room of the White House, he is stepping across the preverbal line ‘in the sand’. “So, if you happen to see Congressman Ryan, tell him how important this farm bill is to Iowa and our rural communities. It’s time to put politics aside and pass it right away,” the President said last week in Iowa. But in fact, the House has already passed a measure that helps farmers that have been struck financially by the drought.

3. The Ryan Budget is Extreme

President Obama’s Campaign Manager, Jim Messina, someone who probably actually hasn’t sat down and read the Ryan Plan, is calling the plan ‘radical’.

New York Times Columnist, Paul Krugman, is spewing the common lies about the Ryan Plan. He said the plan, “would kill people, no question,” while the Plan would “cut discretionary spending to levels not seen since Calvin Coolidge.” In defense of Coolidge, life wasn’t that bad under his leadership – low taxation, high economic growth and relative peace. But, to anyone’s surprise, this isn’t true. The Ryan Plan only brings back non-military discretionary spending to the 2008 levels. The plan also cuts the federal bureaucracy and it’s subsidies by 10% and it reforms the compensation plans of federal employees.

But when we talk about discretionary spending as a percentage of the entire budget, you don’t have to be an economic genius to know that Krugman does have a point, but a very misleading one at that. Because mandatory spending has grown at about six times that of discretionary spending over the past 20 years, it’s really easy to argue that President Obama will keep discretionary spending at levels not seen since Calvin Coolidge – anyone could.

However, there are a lot of Conservatives that aren’t exactly in love with the Ryan Budget. For one, it balances the budget over ten years versus the Connie-Mac Penny Plan which balances the budget over eight years. Don’t we know that anything a president implements that expands past his time in office, usually never completely comes to fruition? Meaning, I seriously doubt that the Ryan Budget would make it all ten years.

Moreover, the Ryan Plan only reduces spending from current levels of 24% down to 19.8% of the GDP. Several leading economists have pointed out that this would only bring down federal expenditures to post-WWII levels. Furthermore, in the Ryan Budget federal spending increases over the next ten years, and revenue each year after. The budget would expand from $3.6 trillion in 2013 to $4.9 trillion in 2022.

4. Ryan is at ‘War with Women’

Didn’t we all see this one coming? It’s a classic ‘hail mary’ out of the playbook of the left against anyone on the right. Democratic Pennsylvania Congressman Patrick Murphy said that Ryan “believes we should ban all birth control as well. He voted for that.” The President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, Nancy Keenan, said that Ryan “supported the ‘Let Women Die Bill,’ which would allow hospitals to refuse to provide a woman emergency, lifesaving abortion care, even if she could die without it.”

Gosh, Ryan really does hate woman, right? Wrong. Ryan has never voted or said any of these things that he is being accused of. However, he did vote for the “Protect Life Act,” which would have, if it passed, rewritten provisions in Obamacare that allowed for federal subsidies to be provided for abortions. Ironic, because liberals and the left already claim that the government doesn’t fund abortions. “Protect Life Act,” also had a provision that exempted Catholic hospitals from having to pay for contraception or abortions. He also supported a bill that would have dulled the HHS Mandate that Catholic hospitals provide free condoms.

5. Ryan’s Plan Favors the Rich

Another classic play from the playbook of those on the left – class warfare. A day on the campaign trail just wouldn’t be right with a little class warfare. Many on the left have claimed that Romney “chose a leader of the House Republicans who shares his commitment” of a “new budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy…”

Regardless of what you will hear from Chris Matthews, Al Sharpton or an Obama SuperPAC add, there are absolutely zero special tax cuts in the Ryan Budget ‘for the wealthy’. Common sense tells you that when Washington enacts across-the-board tax reform, the rich (who already pay the vast majority of the taxes) are likely to benefit. Ryan’s Plan however, only supports keeping the current tax rates that we’ve had for the last decade – one’s that a lot on the left have also supported.

What the Ryan plan does do is simplify our tax system. We currently have a six-bracket tax system. Under the Ryan Plan, this would be simplified to two tax brackets – the lower bracket being a 10% bracket, and the upper bracket being a 25% bracket. This plan fixes the Alternative Minimum Tax, and cuts corporate tax rates to reflect those of other competitive nations to the U.S. Ryan and Romney both also support closing loopholes that wealthy Americans disproportionally use.

Harvard Professor Niall Ferguson: Obama’s Gotta Go

Harvard Professor Niall Ferguson has penned a scathing piece in Newsweek arguing that Obama’s “gotta go.” It won’t be easy for the mainstream press to dismiss Ferguson’s op-ed like they would most others because the messenger happens to be an accomplished historian and can frame America’s decline under Obama in world historical terms.

By now, everyone has heard of historian Niall Ferguson’sSix Killer Apps.” In this presentation, the Harvard professor explains how The West was able to conquer its enemies and ascend to world power. If you haven’t had a chance to view Ferguson’s presentation, do yourself a favor and give it a watch.

It is important for people to note how directly contrary to the historically successful cultural strategies the agenda of Barack Obama and the Democrats runs.

What I propose is that the American left, and by extension its political vehicle the Democrat Party, intentionally embrace the antitheses of what made Western Civilization great, plus two more blights thrown in for good measure: eight killer “Non-Apps,” or “Naps” for short. (Republicans may be guilty of these things to the extent they agree with the left.)

Below is a quick-and-dirty breakdown and a smidgeon of commentary:

1. Competition: a decentralization of political and economic life, which created the launch pad for both nation states and capitalism.

The Democrat Party has built its reputation on the argument that the market is too mean, and if it were not for government we’d all be slaving away in a coal mine somewhere.  On the contrary, it is government, the monopoly of legal coercion, that forces people to labor for subsistence compensation in nations around the world.

From bailouts for too-big-to-fail banks and corporations to green subsidies for shady businesses, the Democrats eschew market accountability any chance they get. Dispensing grants to “non-profits” for everything under the sun, paying hefty wages and pensions to government workers, and pampering unions around the nation, the Democrat Party is the sugar daddy of non-competitive wages and unaccountable labor. In summary, the Democrats’ goal is to centralize complete power and they have no problem using taxpayer money as a political slush fund to do so.

2. Scientific Method: A way of understanding and ultimately changing the natural world, which gave the West (among other things) a major military advantage over the Rest.

Nothing has shown more poignantly that the Democrat Party is completely cynical about abusing science for political gain than so-called “green energy.” From its applause of ethanol subsidies, leading to escalating food prices around the globe, to its attempts to get more than $72 trillion out of a global carbon tax, the left has shown little reverence for science as a method of inquiry.  The left has politicized science and everything else it touches, just like Frankfurt School doyen Theodore Adorno advised the New Left to do in the early 1980s.

3. Property Rights: the rule of law as a means of protecting private owners and peacefully resolving disputes between them, which formed the basis for the most stable form of representative government.

If there is anything the Democrat Party is opposed to it is private property rights. In perfect accordance with the socialist goal of eliminating all notion of private property, the Democrat-led government has eroded all vestige of the legal concept et domus sua cuique est tutissimum refugium (a man’s home is his refuge). Zoning laws, eminent domain, environmental regulations, safety regulations, ordinances, taxes, fees, licensing…the constrictions on private property and free exchange of goods in our society are virtually endless.

4. Modern Medicine: a branch of science that allowed a major improvement in health and life expectancy, beginning in Western societies, but also in their colonies.

One of the more frustrating aspects of living in contemporary America is enduring the endless deluge of hodge-podge “homeopathic,” or “New Age” remedies for everything from the common cold to terminal cancer.  Needless to say, we might as well bring back witchcraft to cure us of our maladies, as prep-work for dealing with the joys of socialized medicine. One can imagine the folksy alternatives that will appear if Obamacare gets fully implemented, such as if one is slated for an operation in nine months and only has six to live. But to wit, the trend in medicine is towards the primitive and away from the modern. The organic food movement, for its part, virtually sprouted up from out of nowhere, and it is one of the delicious ironies that the use of organic fertilizer spread diseases like e Coli.  On the other hand, the banning of the pesticide DDT caused millions of deaths from Malaria. There is certainly an anti-scientific, anti-rational tendency in left-wing thought, and it continues to permeate Western culture. (Or what’s left of it). And incidentally, our scientists haven’t effectively cured a major disease since Polio.

5. Consumer Society: a mode of material living in which the production and purchase of clothing and other consumer goods play a central economic role, and without which the Industrial Revolution would have been unsustainable.

Few things draw the ire of the modern left than the “materialism” of Western society, a faddish disposition begun by economist John Kenneth Galbraith.  But what, pray tell, is a non-materialist economy? The employment of resources to fulfill the demands of the many, fueled by mass production, has led to a dramatic increase in the standard of living in the West. But not to hear the left tell it.  Somebody, somewhere, has to be getting exploited.  If buying something one wants with money one earns becomes at the minimum a “victimless crime,” then the Democrat Party could easily be put out of business.  There would be no need for the left’s hand in the economy, inevitably shoveling money back to itself.  And of course, the innumerable regulations mentioned above, to protect us from every conceivable incident rather than allow the law to deter and punish crimes, provides further avenues for manipulation.

6. Work Ethic: a moral framework and mode of activity derivable from (among other sources) Protestant Christianity, which provides the glue for the dynamic and potentially unstable society created by apps 1 to 5.

When the Democrat Party subsidizes failure and rewards idleness, it undercuts the productive dynamism that propels the economy and allows the rising tide to lift all boats.  Rather than providing a safety net, it has tied up a hammock; as fellow blogger cosmoscon pointed out, “over 90% of all tax revenues go to pay Social Security, Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid and Unemployment Insurance. … And yes, Social Security is an entitlement program.” That’s before the interest on the debt is paid.  America is taking a nap.

7. Constitutionally limited government: A novel form of government deriving from the Enlightenment principles of individual sovereignty and representative decision-making.

The dark days of Absolutism led to a revolt against arbitrary and unjust rule. Scholars such as Locke and Montesquieu devised political arrangements that would institutionally limit government power and unleash human genius and activity through ordered liberty. As the barriers to democratic government that were instituted in The Constitution have been weathered away, the country has become increasingly unstable.  The 17th amendment, undoing the authorization for state legislatures to elect Senators, led to direct elections for Senators and a more popularly influenced Congress. The lobbying of interest groups, such as public sector unions, has led to an all-out scramble for the power of the purse.  Bills that previously would be considered unconstitutional are being passed or even reconciled in the nominal interest of “democracy.”  But our founders specifically designed our government to resist the caprices of democracy, which has proven to be unstable and conducive to the rise of demagogic tyrants.

8. Cultural confidence: When members in a society believe in their way of life, seek to pass it onto their children, and would like to see it promulgated throughout the world.

The left’s counterpoint to cultural confidence is “multi-culturalism,” or the ideal that other cultures around the world hold equal value with one’s own culture. Such a point of view is peculiar to Western Civilization and is indisputably contrived, or in other words, is not “organic.” One of the greatest ironies of the modern left is the notion that other cultures are equal to Western culture, regardless of the content of those cultures or how people live within them.  Multi-culturalism is therefore a leveler of the Western-belief system and a facilitator of cultural-political erosion.

Sources of cultural confidence include the Christian religion, which the left is obviously hostile to, and has led the hard left to ally with political Islam. Many societies throughout history have not been directly conquered but rather culturally weakened and absorbed. Both the central European Avar Kingdom and the Jewish Khazar Empire were culturally absorbed by the Slavs (or “slaves” to read one etymology) and disappeared, for two European examples. A culture that doesn’t display any confidence is one that no one can believe in.  A culture that no one believes in is one that nobody will stand up for. Such cultures cannot survive, let alone prosper.

Conclusion

Those who are fairly well-read can easily grasp that the American left is doing the virtual opposite of what has been shown to be successful throughout history. Whether one thinks that it is just a coincidence, or that the left has codified its policies with the express aim of “deconstructing” Western Civilization, while reconstructing it through the culture, is up to the reader. But let there be no doubt that the left’s positions are not historically considered to be successful, and the Democrat Party’s record is too strewn with failure for the sane, self-interested person to be impervious to recognizing.

Where Are America’s Heroes?

America faces attacks upon its economic well-being, its historic values, principles and traditions, the very moral fabric of its society and the supreme law of the land, the United States Constitution. The enemy attacks from within the American education system, in movies, on television, in newspapers, magazines and from within local, state and federal government.

Where are the defenders of the American way of life? Where are the defenders of America’s culture? Where are the defenders of equal protection under the law? Where are the defenders of the Constitutional Republic?

They are certainly not to be found within the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, where the nomination and eventual confirmation of two activist radical fringe left “progressive” Supreme Court Justice nominees were allowed by Republican Senator Lindsay Graham, who justified his votes by saying “Elections have consequences”. Certainly not within the Federal Court system, where Arizona’s legally passed defense of land and law was overruled by Bill Clinton appointed U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton. Certainly not among “Conservative” television pundits, who continue to allow flat out, bold faced lies spoken by radical fringe left “progressive” pundits go unchallenged.

Where are the heroes?

Are they only to be found within the American people? Is defense of the nation’s values, principles, and way of life left up to We The People?

If so, so be it. If it’s up to Patriotic Americans to preserve, protect and defend their nation, their culture, their land of laws, their values, their traditions, their moral fiber and their Constitution, they couldn’t be in better hands.

Americans fought and won independence from tyrannical monarchal government in the Revolutionary War. Americans fought and won against racist attempt to divide the nation during the Civil War. Americans fought and won the struggle against the tyrannical forces of Fascism in World War II. Americans fought and won the Cold War against the tyrannical Communist forces of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Now America is engaged in a war of ideas here on its own soil. To win, Americans need not fire a single shot. There are more Americans than there are “progressives”.

Stand firm in your resolve. Do not ever back down. Be an American hero.

Make sure that this November, you and your American brethren go to the polls in record numbers and vote the radical fringe left “progressive” extremists who seek to destroy your country out of office.

This is not just any old election. November’s election is the battleground for America’s very survival. We The People are responsible for the outcome. To honor those passed who fought to defend America. To preserve the future for you, your children and your grandchildren. Go to the polls and ensure the outcome of this November’s election.

Whether or not it was sought, now is the time for this generation to become the new Greatest Generation. Americans are up to it. It’s in America’s DNA.

The End of Liberty is Near

I find the current situation in our nation both frightening and ironic.  The frightening part took a more serious turn a few days ago.  On Thursday August 16, 2012, former Marine Corp member Brandon Raub, decorated for valor in both Iraq and Afghanistan, was “detained”; not arrested but “detained”, by federal, state, and local authorities.  He was taken from his home in handcuffs, without charge, and is being held indefinitely pending a “mental competency hearing” before a judge (http://beforeitsnews.com/politics/2012/08/brandon-raub-ndaa-arrest-video-2449432.html).  And what is his “crime”?  Mr. Raub was so bold as to criticize the federal government; Barack Obama, Eric Holder, politicians in both political parties, and bureaucrats who ignore the Constitution and do as they please without the consent of the governed.  Raub had the temerity to make references to the “Ron Paul Revolution”.  His rhetoric is undoubtedly strong, direct, and to the point; but it is no where near criminal, or the ravings of a lunatic, from what I have seen.  His ire is directed at the actions of government officials who have sworn an oath to “protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America” but instead choose to ignore their oath of office, and their sworn duties as elected and appointed officials.  Were his comments irrational, threatening, terroristic, or seditious?  I don’t see them as being outrageous at all.  His posts are reflective, and critical, of the current activities by government agencies, bureaucrats, politicians, etc. (http://www.facebook.com/#!/raub.brandon ).

The ironic side is even more disturbing.  Once again I hear the New Black Panthers making public threats against “crackers and their babies”.  In internet radio programs that they proudly make public, these “people” call for black people to go into hospital nurseries and throw bombs into rooms full of “cracker babies” (http://www.examiner.com/article/new-black-panther-leader-kill-white-babies-by-bombing-nurseries ).  They boldly call for the murder of all white people and pose on facebook with AK-47 rifles, with their faces covered of course, and again boldly call for the murder of people because they are white.  This comes on the heals of a leader of the group stating in a video several months ago that “I hate white people, all of them.  Every cracker needs to be killed, all their children, all their babies, etc.” (http://www.wnd.com/2010/07/175817/).  Hate speech??  Racism??  I guess not!!

I wonder why the FBI, state police, and local police have not rounded up this bunch, those who are so boldly and publicly making terroristic threats against white people on an almost daily basis.  They have also made threats against delegates to the Republican National Party Convention in Tampa, Florida (http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2012/08/14/NBP-Threaten-Cracker-Republican-Tampa-Convention-Wont-Be-Tolerated-Our-Feet-Will-Be-On-Your-Necks ) yet we see no SWAT teams going after them. 

And why is Louis Farrakhan allowed to spit out the vile crap he does?  He actually threatens the life of Barack Obama and not a word is said, no denunciation, no “investigation”, nothing but silence http://rushlimbaughreport.blogspot.com/2012/04/did-louis-farrakhan-threaten-obama.html.  Isn’t this hate speech??? Isn’t this racist??  Isn’t this terroristic (http://www.examiner.com/article/new-black-panther-leader-malik-zulu-shabazz-asks-the-ballot-or-the-bullet) ??   

I don’t really wonder why the hate from the Black Panthers and Farrakhan is ignored, I know  why (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/dont-miss-the-connection-obama-and-holder-delivered-to-office-by-black-panthers-owe-them-some-favors/).    It is ignored because they are black and they hate America.  And because they are black and hate America they can say whatever they please, and do whatever they please, without any recrimination from this band of criminals now in charge of our government.  (One disclaimer: black conservatives aren’t given the same leeway as the Pink Panthers.)  White people aren’t allowed to spout such tripe.  Ted Nugent made a political reference a couple of months ago and was descended upon by Secret Service people.  He wasn’t arrested but was interrogated for much less than what we hear out of the mouths of black radicals espousing murder and sedition.

Brandon Raub was targeted because, besides being a white patriot, he stood up to a tyrannical government that is well on their way to subjugating We the People.  The “Patriot Act”, the most unconstitutional piece of legislation ever signed into law, gives a criminal government the right to arrest and hold anyone they choose; without charges, without a warrant, and without a trial for as long as they wish to do so.  It came from a Republican controlled Congress and was signed by George W. Bush, a Republican “moderate”.  From this we got the Department of Homeland Security, the TSA, and the FEMA camps.  By the way, for those who called me a conspiracy theory nut two and a half years ago, welcome to the reality of the FEMA camps.  They were built in 2009 and are being financed and staffed with money in the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012, passed almost unanimously in both houses of Congress and signed by Obama in December.

This same NDAA 2012 allows for the “arrest without charges, and indefinite detention without trial” (Sections 1022 and 1023), for those accused of being “potential terrorists” or supporting anyone suspected to qualify.  This means that anyone who speaks up for Brandon Raub could be denounced and also “detained” as Raub is being “detained”.  It seems odd to me that these provisions don’t apply to the New Black Panthers.  If there was ever a reason to “detain” people for making terror threats it is this bunch of hate mongers.  They spew their diatribe of hate and terror threats all over every medium of communication available without so much as a word from Obama, Holder, and the rest of the criminals sitting in Washington D. C.

A double standard does exist and the lame stream media, including FOX News Network and much of conservative talk radio, is complicit. Not only do the lame streams ignore the violations of the Constitution going on every day, they actually cheer lead for those committing the violations.  Our liberty, our Republic of the United States of America, is teetering on the edge of extinction and very few in any media seem to have the courage to really speak boldly about what is happening.  Mark Levin and Michael Savage have been rather vocal but most of the”biggies” sidestep this issue of such bold tyranny in all branches of government.

Carrying the water on the most serious issues of liberty is left to those of us who have no national voice and lack the wealth many media darlings protect with their silence.  And what about us “little people”, the “peasants”?  Two days after the “detention” of Brandon Raub  I saw posts on facebook by many who are fearful and plan to “be more careful of what they write” so as to avoid catching the eye of the federal government.  This is exactly the plan of those who have violated the rights of Brandon Raub.  If they can silence us by making a public display of his fate they win.  Every despot in history has used this tactic of fear and intimidation.  How many will cower in fear due to Raub’s treatment; one hundred, one thousand, ten thousand, one hundred thousand?  I WILL NOT COMPLY!!!  I AM A MAN!!!   I AM AN AMERICAN!!!

The founding fathers pledged “their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor” through “the protection of Divine Providence” to establish the United States of America as THE beacon of freedom throughout the world.  Many gave their lives to establish, and many more have given their lives to preserve, the concept of freedom we are guaranteed “by nature and nature’s God” in the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution of the United States of America.  It is incumbent on those of us who inherited that liberty given by so many to restore what has been lost, and to leave the full measure of freedom to those who come behind us.  Our responsibility is to honor those who came before, those who stand for liberty now, and those who will inherit what we leave them. 

Brandon Raub is one who is standing for liberty now.  If we cower in fear because of his treatment we will have abandoned the efforts and sacrifices of so many and will leave a future of tyranny, slavery, despotism, and poverty to those who follow us.  Our commission, our responsibility, is to stand for liberty now, regardless of the cost to ourselves. 

Everyone who reads this needs to ask themselves a question:  “If not now, when; if not me, who?”  Will you stand with Brandon Raub now? https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/8LqA0?psid=30813f268825455cb13753f3ef838728) Will you honor George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, and the others who forged this nation out of tyranny?  Will you stand in honor of those who have lost life, limb, and possessions through 236 years of fighting to preserve this freedom?  Will you stand in honor of those fighting tyranny in Third World toilets in the Middle East, those who are trying to defeat Islamic nut cases before they can hit us again?  Will you honor those who will inherit the future from you?
