How Close Is America To A Second Civil War?

book

bookA new novel analyzes how our current bitter political divisions could easily spill into armed conflict—and the horrifying reality of “brother fighting brother.”

WASHINGTON, Jan. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — “Hardcore socialist takeover”…”Right Wing Neanderthals”…” Impeach Obama”…”Wall Street…the reigning American crime syndicate.”

Bitter and unrestrained politic rhetoric like this hasn’t been heard in America for decades—some say not since the turbulent years leading to the attack on Fort Sumter and a conflict that took 620,000 lives. Recession, unemployment, revelations of government surveillance, lies, cover-ups, and bare-knuckle tactics over health care reform have led some Americans to believe it’s time to take up arms–echoing Thomas Jefferson’s timeless reminder that “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

J. D. Ludwig, a former Army medic, has witnessed the very human tragedy of combat. Better than most, he knows that war is not the glamorous and heroic affair we see on television and in movies, but a terrible juggernaut that–once begun–would leave soldiers, civilians, and our nation itself with deep wounds that could take decades to heal. In his debut novel Overreach: Blood of Patriots, Ludwig takes the anger, fear, and political division we can all see in today’s headlines and then “war-games” the horrors that would result if restraint and reason give way to blind extremism on both sides.

  • A president, beset by political scandal and convinced of the nation’s desperate need for change, takes a desperate gamble—using the military and executive powers of the government to eliminate his opposition and achieve total control.
  • As a peaceful demonstration descends into mass murder, a brave senator defies political blackmail and personal disgrace to warn the nation of the coming coup.
  • The president plunges the nation into darkness, cutting off power and communications to thwart resistance until he can solidify his control.
  • It falls to one man, retired Special Forces Colonel Ty Denham, to take action–desperately hoping that the power of personal honor and a deep devotion to this nation’s guiding principles will inspire his countrymen to take up arms and fight for their most basic rights and freedoms.
  • The book follows men and women across the country as they choose sides and deal with the chaos and shortages of a shattered infrastructure, and culminates in a accurate portrayal of the best-equipped military forces in the world—Americans all—facing each other in pitched battle where their ancestors fought over a hundred and fifty years ago.

Ludwig comments, “At first, I was reluctant to consider what I’ve explored in this book, but with all the wild rhetoric and sabre rattling we’re hearing from both sides, it seemed to me far better to fight this war in a fictional world—and hope that the reader can grasp the reality of bullets and bloodshed we could be facing in the very near future.”

This is not a dry exercise in political theory—the characters are fully drawn individuals with strong beliefs, honest dreams, and inevitable human weaknesses who find themselves thrust into a crisis they neither sought nor desired. The result, as one reviewer called it, is “a gripping tale of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism that explores the unthinkable.”

Blood of Patriots is the first novel in the Overreach trilogy, to be followed by Blood of Tyrants, and Tree of Liberty.

House Judiciary Committee Passes ‘No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act’

House_of_Rep

FAMILY RESEARCH COUNCIL LOGOWASHINGTON, Jan. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Today the House Judiciary Committee approved by a 22 to 12 vote H.R. 7, the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,” authored by U.S. Reps. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) and Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.). This bipartisan bill would permanently prohibit taxpayer dollars from being used to pay for abortions.

Family Research Council Director for the Center for Human Dignity Arina Grossu responded with the following comments:

“This is a victory for women, their unborn children, and taxpayers who should not be forced by the government to pay for someone else’s abortion.

“We applaud the passage of this bi-partisan pro-life legislation to remove abortion funding from Obamacare and apply the long-standing Hyde Amendment across the government. Most Americans, regardless of their view on abortion, oppose government funding for the atrocity of abortion. The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act restores government neutrality on abortion by removing government funding for abortion and yet allows private health insurance to cover abortion.

“We also know that government funding for abortion will increase the number of abortions, a prospect troubling to all but a handful of Americans.  With the Obamacare rollout, it has become clear that many health plans being subsidized by the government cover elective abortion. Even more incredible is that Obamacare requires an abortion surcharge, which in most cases is not even revealed to consumers shopping for a health care plan.

“One member at last week’s hearing falsely claimed that the Hyde amendment fully prevented government funding of abortion.  However, Hyde does not apply to the nation’s capital and the provision stopping abortion funding in D.C. was repealed in 2010.  As a result, Americans have paid to abort hundreds of unborn children at a total cost of $185,000 in taxpayer funds.  Hyde applies to other funding streams, not the District. Although this abortion funding restriction for the District was restored in 2011, these taxpayer-funded abortions demonstrate how the annual funding restrictions on abortion are tenuous. The passage of H.R. 7 would make this abortion-funding restriction permanent along with other government abortion-funding provisions. It’s time to permanently remove government funding for abortion,” concluded Grossu.

Lockheed Martin Completes Critical Milestone to upgrade the Navy’s Electronic Warfare Defenses

lockheed_martin_logoSYRACUSE, N.Y., Jan. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] recently completed a milestone test on the U.S. Navy’s evolutionary Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program (SEWIP) Block 2 system. This test further validated the system’s ability to protect the Navy’s fleet from evolving anti-ship missile threats.

Under SEWIP Block 2, Lockheed Martin will upgrade the AN/SLQ-32(V)2 system found on all U.S. aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers and other warships with key capabilities to determine if adversaries are using electronic sensors to track the ship.

Block 2 obtained a Milestone C decision in January 2013, after which the system began 11 months of land-based testing in preparation for installation on a Navy warship. This test, which successfully completed earlier this month, demonstrated the maturity of the open architecture electronic warfare system by performing full system operation in multiple scenarios.

“We are very proud of the effort the SEWIP team has put into achieving these successes,” said Joseph Ottaviano, director of surface electronic warfare at Lockheed Martin’s Mission Systems and Training division. “Milestone C is a critical step towards delivering these next generation systems to the Fleet, and we are extremely pleased with the progress and results.”

Block 2 is the latest in an evolutionary succession of improvement “blocks” the Navy is pursuing for its shipboard electronic warfare system, which will incrementally add new technologies and functional capabilities. The Navy competitively awarded Lockheed Martin a contract in 2009 to develop SEWIP Block 2 to upgrade the passive detection capabilities of the current SLQ-32 systems. The company recently completed shore-based testing in preparation for ship installation.

Work on the SEWIP program is performed at the company’s Syracuse, N.Y. facility, which houses a new electronic warfare system test facility that simulates the complex environment submarines, surface ships and aircraft could operate in. By performing testing prior to delivery, the company is able to reduce risk and lower costs for the SEWIP program.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs about 116,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products, and services. The Corporation’s net sales for 2012 were $47.2 billion.

ACLJ Calls Federal Investigation Into IRS Targeting Scheme A “Sham”

Ray Tsang (CC)

ACLJ-LogoWASHINGTON, Jan. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), which is representing 41 organizations in a federal lawsuit challenging the IRS, said today that reports revealing the FBI has found no evidence to pursue criminal charges in its investigation of the IRS targeting scheme against conservative groups clearly shows the probe is nothing more than a “sham” designed to protect those responsible for the unlawful scheme.

The Wall Street Journal first reported that “investigators didn’t find the kind of political bias or ‘enemy hunting’ that would amount to a violation of criminal law.” The report, citing law enforcement officials, said what did surface was “evidence of a mismanaged bureaucracy enforcing rules about tax-exemption applications it didn’t understand.”

“This proves our greatest concern – the investigation by the Obama Administration is nothing but a sham,” said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ. “To reach a conclusion that no criminal charges will be filed against those responsible for this illegal targeting scheme without interviewing any of our clients – the real victims in this ordeal – is absolutely absurd. From day one it was apparent the Obama Administration was never really interested in getting to the truth. This latest revelation directly conflicts with the facts and evidence in our case – that our clients were deliberately singled out and targeted because of their conservative political beliefs.”

It took more than seven months before the FBI contacted the ACLJ late in December requesting interviews with several of our clients. But just days ago, the ACLJ said it is re-evaluating that request after it was revealed that a top Obama supporter in the Department of Justice was named to head-up the criminal investigation.

“The appointment of Barbara Bosserman – a major political donor – to oversee the criminal probe is a significant conflict of interest,” said Sekulow. “What’s amazing is that her short tenure at the helm – just a matter of days – apparently was long enough to conclude no criminal charges will be filed against those responsible for the targeting scheme.”

Sekulow added: “The American people understand what’s really going on here. They have seen the Obama Administration – especially the DOJ – do very little to move this investigation forward. They have seen the stonewalling, the misdirection, and now the politically motivated reasons to sweep the IRS scandal under the rug. The American people deserve better and we intend to get to the bottom of this unlawful scheme with our federal lawsuit.”

In October 2013, the ACLJ expanded its federal suit, filing a second amended lawsuit in federal court in Washington, D.C. – adding additional defendants – including top IRS political appointees – an additional claim – and evidence that reveals a politically-motivated attack on conservative organizations by the IRS – a secret and illegal targeting campaign – aimed at the organizations because of their political beliefs.

The ACLJ argues that President Obama – along with Congressional Democrats – created a climate of hostility toward Tea Party and conservative groups – making it impossible for the ACLJ’s clients to exercise their First Amendment freedoms. The ACLJ contends that the hostile climate set the stage for the unprecedented illegal targeting by the IRS.

The ACLJ represents 41 organizations in 22 states. Of the 41 groups, 22 organizations received tax-exempt status after lengthy delays, 12 are still pending, 5 withdrew applications because of frustration with the IRS process, and 2 had their files closed by the IRS after refusing to answer the unconstitutional requests for more information.

The 81-page amended lawsuit is posted here. An Executive Summary of the amended complaint is posted here.

Poll: Chris Christie, Hillary Clinton Most Popular Among Florida Voters

SAINT LEO, Fla., Dec. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — The two most popular politicians among Florida voters are New Jersey Gov.Chris Christie and former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, according to a new poll by the Saint Leo University Polling Institute.

Clinton, a Democrat, is viewed favorably by 59 percent of Florida likely voters and unfavorably by 37 percent, for a net favorability rating of +22. Christie, a Republican, has a favorability rating of 55/29, for a net favorability rating of +26. This compares to Vice President Joe Biden’s favorability rating of 50/44 (+6) and that of former Republican vice presidential nominee and current U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin (39/40 (-1).

Should Clinton run for president, she would receive a warm embrace from Florida Democrats. Clinton’s favorability rating among Democrats stands at 91 percent, with just 6 percent taking an unfavorable view of her. Nine in 10 Democrats (89 percent) said they would consider supporting her, if she ran for president. Comparatively fewer said the same about Biden (34 percent).

Christie has competition for the affections of Republican primary voters. Slightly more likely-voter Republicans say they could support Jeb Bush (44 percent), the former governor, and current U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (42 percent), if they were to run than Christie (38 percent). U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky (30 percent), Paul Ryan (28 percent), and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas(24 percent) also have large numbers of voters who say they could support them.

In the Florida governor’s race, former Gov. Charlie Crist holds a 46-34 percent lead over incumbent Gov. Rick Scott. Scott’s numbers are weighed down in part by some cracks in his own base. While 68 percent of Republicans have a favorable view of Scott, just 59 percent of Republicans say they would re-elect him. A significant percentage of Republicans hold an unfavorable view of Scott (24 percent) and 17 percent say they plan to vote for Republican-turned-Democrat Crist.

The survey put Florida’s U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson’s approval rating at 48/33 (+15) and his re-elect rating at 43 percent. SenatorMarco Rubio’s approval ratio is 45/41 (+4) with a 40 percent re-elect rating.

Less than 1 in 5 Americans Say Their Congressperson Deserves to be Re-Elected

NY06256LOGO

NY06256LOGONEW YORK, Nov. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Another month and another round of headaches for the White House. They finally get through the government shutdown and now have to answer many questions about why the Affordable Care Act’s website was not ready for millions to sign up for health insurance. And, perhaps because of this, President Obama’s job ratings continue their downward movement. This month just one-third of Americans (32%) give the President positive ratings for the job he is doing, while 68% give him negative ratings. This is down from last month, when 35% gave the President positive marks and 65% gave him negative ones.

These are some of the results of The Harris Poll of 2,250 adults surveyed online between November 13 and 18, 2013 byHarris Interactive. (Full results, including data tables, can be found here)

While it’s not surprising that just 4% of Republicans but 59% of Democrats give the President positive ratings on the overall job he is doing, what should have White House worried about legacies and Democrats worried about fallout for Congressional elections is that just 26% of Independents give President Obama positive ratings while three-quarters (74%) give him negative marks.

There are two things that could make the President a little happier. First, there is an uptick in perceived direction of the country as three in ten Americans (30%) believe it is going in the right direction, up from 20% last month; seven in ten (70%) believe things in the country have seriously gotten off on the wrong track.  The second is that when it comes to who deserves the most blame for shutting down the federal government, almost half (45%) of Americans blame Republicans in Congress compared to “just” one-third (32%) blaming President Obama; 7% blame Democrats in Congress, while 16% are not at all sure.

It’s one year until the Congressional elections

Congress still sees their approval in the single digits, with just 7% of Americans rating the job they are doing positively while 93% give them negative ratings. This is slightly better than last month when just 4% of Americans gave Congress positive ratings. But it’s not just the institution of Congress that is suffering. Just one in five Americans (19%) give their Member of the House of Representative positive ratings, while 71% give him or her negative ratings. And this is across political parties, as 70% of Republicans, 68% of Democrats and 75% of Independents give their Member negative marks for the overall job he or she is doing.

Even more ominous for sitting Members is that half of Americans (52%) say, when it comes to their Member of the House of Representatives, it’s time to give someone else a chance, compared to just 17% of Americans who believe their Congressperson deserves to be re-elected. What should give sitting Members some hope is that 31% are still not at all sure. Looking at this by party, 52% of Republicans, 47% of Democrats and 60% of Independents say it’s time to give someone else a chance.

Methodology
This Harris Poll was conducted online within the United States between November 13 and 18, 2013 among 2,250 adults (aged 18 and over). Figures for age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, region and household income were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the population. Propensity score weighting was also used to adjust for respondents’ propensity to be online.

All sample surveys and polls, whether or not they use probability sampling, are subject to multiple sources of error which are most often not possible to quantify or estimate, including sampling error, coverage error, error associated with nonresponse, error associated with question wording and response options, and post-survey weighting and adjustments. Therefore, Harris Interactive avoids the words “margin of error” as they are misleading. All that can be calculated are different possible sampling errors with different probabilities for pure, unweighted, random samples with 100% response rates. These are only theoretical because no published polls come close to this ideal.

Respondents for this survey were selected from among those who have agreed to participate in Harris Interactive surveys. The data have been weighted to reflect the composition of the adult population. Because the sample is based on those who agreed to participate in the Harris Interactive panel, no estimates of theoretical sampling error can be calculated.

12-year Secret Service Agent Resigns- Warns American People About ‘Life Inside the Bubble’

3927ed0aa44c4f408468f514f093f152-600x350WASHINGTON, Nov. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Why would a successful, 12-year Secret Service agent resign his elite position in the prime of his career to run for high public office and blow the whistle on what goes on at the highest levels inWashington DC?

Dan Bongino’s Life Inside the Bubble: Why a Top-Ranked Secret Service Agent Walked Away From It All (WND Books, Nov 19) is a look at life inside the presidential “bubble,” a haze of staffers, consultants, cronies, acolytes, bureaucrats and lobbyists that creates the “alternate reality” in which monumental policy decisions are made. And it is the story of a dedicated Secret Service professional who, after years inside the “bubble,” walked away in favor of sounding a clarion call to the American people in defense of sane government and the U.S. Constitution.

Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity praises the book as “a rare peek inside the DC ‘Bubble’ which should be a wake-up call to every American.”

Former congressman and U.S. Army Col. Allen West says, “Dan Bongino walked away because he is an American patriot and the embodiment of the highest standards of honor, integrity, and character … exactly what we need inside the bubble.”

Take the journey with Bongino from the tough streets of New York City where he was raised, and later patrolled as a member of the NYPD, to the White House as a member of the elite Presidential Protective Division, through his ultimate decision to resign from the Secret Service in the prime of his career to run for the United States Senate against the feared Maryland Democratic machine.

Follow his experiences inside the Washington DC matrix and discover why a government filled with some incredibly dedicated people nevertheless continues to make such frequent and tragic mistakes. Indeed, Bongino shows why the “Fast & Furious” scandal, the terror bombings in Boston and the terrorist attacks in Benghazi are merely harbingers of what’s to come to America without a bold change in direction.

About Dan Bongino

Starting his career in law enforcement with the NYPD in 1995, Dan Bongino joined the ranks of the Secret Service in 1999 as a special agent where he was assigned to investigate financial crimes. In 2006, he entered into duty with the elite Presidential Protective Division in the administration of President George W. Bush and remained on protective duty during the change in administration to that of President Barack Obama. He resigned from the Secret Service in 2011 to run for a U.S. Senate seat inMaryland.

Ex-Clinton WH Aide: Hillary’s Lessons From 2008 Put Her In The Driver’s Seat

WASHINGTON, Oct. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Hillary Clinton is in the driver’s seat for the 2016 Presidential race and in position to make history as America’s first woman president if she learns the lessons and corrects the mistakes of her 2008 run, including her Iraq War vote explanation and her failure to capitalize in caucuses on primary victories in those states, assert ex-Clinton White House aide Robert Weiner and policy analyst Nakia Gladden in a Michigan Chronicle article just out.  The Michigan Chronicle has been named the top African-American newspaper in America six times in the last twelve years by the National Newspaper Association.

Weiner, a Democratic and national issues strategist who was the spokesman for three congressional committee chairmen before joining the White House staff, along with co-author Gladden, say: “With the cognoscenti of both parties and the media ever more certain Hillary Clinton – who won the 2008 Michigan primary — will run in 2016, and Clinton herself taking steps to allow the choice, she needs to look back and learn some lessons from her failed 2008 campaign before her adrenalin rushes her forward.  Even Bill Clinton said recently, ‘You must learn the lessons of your mistakes … without becoming a general who fights the last war.'”

Weiner and Gladden write: “Most significantly, she was reluctant to acknowledge that her vote to authorize the Iraq War in 2001 was against the national grain that evolved.  She did not backtrack until September 18, 2006, when she said to Meredith Vieiraon the Today Show, ‘If we knew then what we know now… I certainly wouldn’t have voted that way.’  It’s a point her close friendJames Carville had been saying for a year she should make.   On September 23, 2007, Tim Russert again dragged out of her on Meet the Press, ‘If I had known then what I know now…, I would not have voted the way that I did.’ Chris Matthews asserted that Russert ‘finally reeled the big marlin into the boat,’ not realizing she said it a year earlier. Both statements were too little too late. Gen. Wes Clark, one of her staunch supporters, told us that Hillary’s decision not to criticize the initial war action was a ‘general election decision.’  However, she never got to the general. Obama filled the anti-war vacuum.”

Weiner and Gladden continue: “Clinton recently narrowly avoided making a similar mistake on Syria which could have affected a 2016 run. President Obama planned missile attacks in Syria even though popular support was 3-1 against it.  At the last minute, just as the President was preparing an Oval office speech to announce the launch, a diplomatic solution materialized.  New Secretary of State Kerry made an off-the-cuff response to a reporter which became a Putin-Obama lifeline: ‘[Assad] could turn over every single bit of his chemical weapons to the international community in the next week.’  It also saved Hillary.  She had just met with Obama and was ready to support his launch.  Even Bill O’Reilly concedes that diplomacy is ‘now working.'”

Weiner and Gladden warn: “She will face repeated questions about Benghazi.  Democrats say it’s a ‘phony scandal,’ typical mid-level multi-agency bureaucrats harmonizing a talking points memo, combined with Congress denying State’s funding request for increased embassy security worldwide.  Indeed, just this September 29, the House finally passed a bill ‘fully funding the Administration’s request for embassy security,’ trumpeted in a press release by Foreign Affairs Chairman Ed Royce(R-CA). Republicans know that funding denial was a legitimate counterpunch by Democrats.  Unanswered is why the Ambassador went to the unprotected outpost, but Hillary’s involvement was unlikely. As Obama’s heir, she will also be blamed for IRS disproportionately targeting conservative groups even though liberal groups were also peppered with questions.”

Weiner and Gladden recognize, “Bill is brilliant as ‘Secretary of Explaining,’ as President Obama called him, but he also speaks off the cuff.  Recently, Bill condemned Democrats for whining about ‘gridlock’ even though polling shows a majority blame it on Republican congressional obstructionism.  President Clinton will definitely be enormously helpful, but Hillary will sometimes have to keep the Big Dog on a leash.”

Weiner and Gladden assert, “The Ready for Hillary PAC is not just any ‘draft’ group.  Big names are signing onto their fundraising letters and working as advisors including Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO), former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, Bill Clinton strategists James Carville and Harold Ickes, and Obama veterans. According to Communication Director Seth Bringman, the PAC now has impressive numbers: over 1,000,000 Facebook supporters, 10,000 donors, and 100,000 people with Ready for Hillary bumper stickers.  The staff’s enthusiasm is apparent.”

Weiner and Gladden add, “Her speaking tour is consolidating constituencies. She has recently supported gay marriage, a woman for President, and women’s health and birth control choice.  She forcefully opposed voter suppression of minorities and the recent government shutdown.  She just endorsed Terry McAuliffe for Virginia Governor, and she’s been lunching with President Obama and breakfasting with Vice President Biden. Congressional Black Caucus Dean John Conyers (D-Detroit) told us, ‘Opponents would hate to be against her for the nomination.’ Then he surveyed his staff who unanimously agreed, ‘It’s hers to lose.'”

Weiner and Gladden note, “Her resume, starting with Texas voter registration organizer, then US Congress committee staff, First Lady, US Senator, and Secretary of State, is unsurpassed.  Her 1995 ‘Women’s rights are human rights’ speech in Beijingas First Lady remains a standard for courage. Most recently at State, she helped topple Qaddafi, established elections inBurma including opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, emphasized women’s rights throughout the world including standing up with and for rape victims, and imposed harsh sanctions on Iran – let alone being part of the Got-bin Laden Team.”

Weiner and Gladden suggest, “With Rasmussen showing her 63-12-4 over Vice President Biden and New York Governor Cuomo, Quinnipiac at 65-13-7, NBC at 60 to 11 over Biden and 7 for Elizabeth Warren, and a lead over Republicans Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, and Ted Cruz by at least eight points, it’s no wonder why Republicans are concerned about her as Democrats consolidate.”

The authors predict that “she will re-incorporate McAuliffe (former DNC Chair) and personal confidante Huma Abadin, widely respected inside Washington, back into her brain trust.  She will correct organizational errors of 2008 — including losing the delegates in the major Texas caucus after she won its primary, and trying to change the rules for counting her victoriousMichigan and Florida primaries after she won them when the states had violated the Party’s calendar.”

They point out that “the eternity between now and 2016 can change the field.  Past ‘inevitable’ candidacies disintegrated fromMario Cuomo and Howard Dean to Rick Perry and Ted Kennedy.  Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton came from nowhere a year in front to win.”

Weiner and Gladden conclude, “Right now, Clinton is in the driver’s seat – and if she wins, she will be a superbly competent and historic first woman American President.”

Robert Weiner, is a former Clinton White House spokesman, communications director for the House Government Operations Committee, senior staff for Congressmen John Conyers, Claude Pepper, Ed Koch, Charles Rangel, and Sen. Ted Kennedy, and wrote the epilogue for Michigan Chronicle Senior Editor Bankole Thompson’s groundbreaking book, “Obama and Christian Loyalty.”  Nakia Gladden is policy analyst at Robert Weiner Associates.

USA’s Top Public Political Donors Revealed

alg-american-flag-money-jpg

NEW YORK, Oct. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — As the US Supreme Court considers whether to remove limits on individuals’ contributions to candidates, political parties and political action committees, Wealth-X today released a list of the top five public political donors leading up to the 2012 elections and since then.

From December 2011 to December 2012, conservative-leaning business mogul Sheldon Adelson, CEO of Las Vegas Sands, along with his wife Miriam, were the top public donors with US$96,417,000 in political contributions – equivalent to 0.42 percent of their estimated US$23 billion fortune.

Next on the list is multibillionaire Harold Simmons, chairman of the Contran corporation, along with his wife Annette, who donated US$32,603,800 to conservative candidates and causes, followed by media magnate Fred Eychaner, who gaveUS$13,207,000 to liberal campaigns – amounting to 0.43 percent and 2.75 percent of their total net worth, respectively.

Since the 2012 elections, political contributions have generally tapered off, but many ultra wealthy individuals continue to pour their money into politics.

The top public political donor from January 2013 to October 2013 was New York City mayor and business tycoon Michael Bloomberg. The political independent – who ranked fourth on the list of donors leading up to the 2012 elections – gaveUS$2,265,867 of his US$21 billion fortune to various candidates and causes in 2013.

Below are the top two public political donors in the year preceding the 2012 US elections and since then:

From 01-Dec-2011 To 01-Dec-2012
Name Amount
Donated
Estimated Net
Worth
Political
Leaning
Sheldon & Miriam Adelson $96,417,000 $23,200,000,000 Conservative
Harold & Annette Simmons $32,603,800 $7,500,000,000 Conservative
From 01-Jan-2013 To 10-Oct-2013
Michael Bloomberg $2,265,867 $21,400,000,000 Independent
Thomas Meyer & Kathryn
Taylor (wife)
$1,857,400 $1,300,000,000 Liberal

Conspicuously absent from the list are notable billionaire political donors such as brothers David and Charles Koch, the politically-conservative owners of oil, gas, and chemical conglomerate Koch Industries, and liberal-leaning financier George Soros. Sources suggest that these individuals may channel their contributions through foundations or organizations that keep their donors’ identities private.

New Book Suggests Possible End of Progressive Rule In 2014

THE GREAT WITHDRAWAL BOOK COVER

PTHE GREAT WITHDRAWAL BOOK COVERHOENIX, Oct. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — In 1913 America fell under the spell of an addictive European collectivist ideology called Progressivism that took our nation on a 100-year detour away from the sound money and values of America’s Framers.

In 2013 millions of Americans are snapping out of this hypnotic spell. Today’s political and social turmoil are caused by the withdrawal symptoms of kicking the Progressive addiction to government dependency, write renowned monetary expert Craig R. Smith and former think tank futurist Lowell Ponte in their fourth book.

Millions now see that we have been living in a dream world, an illusion of prosperity conjured with unreal paper money, a stock market addicted to the drug of a trillion stimulus dollars per year, zombie economics and mind-control politics.

A century ago President Woodrow Wilson imposed an unequal Progressive income tax to redistribute the nation’s wealth, and a Federal Reserve system to begin replacing America’s good-as-gold dollars that politicians could not freely print with a new paper “elastic currency” they could conjure out of thin air to buy votes.

After 100 years of Progressivism, 67 percent of tax dollars are now spent for “transfer payments” from your wallet to somebody else’s. Today’s dollar has only two pennies of the purchasing power of the 1913 dollar.

Progressivism promised to build a utopia through science, technology and government social engineering by an elite purportedly far smarter than the rest of us.

What Progressives created can be seen in their “workers’ paradise” Detroit – a jungle of violence, strife, corruption and sky-high taxes from which more than a million former residents have voted with their feet to flee. Progressivism is an intellectually, morally and financially bankrupt ideology.

Yet Progressives like President Barack Obama keep trying to turn America into Detroit by increasing dependence on government. Today, nearly half of American households include someone who gets a government check.

Today’s Progressives, fearful that their power is slipping away, are grabbing for total power by using the Internal Revenue Service as a political weapon, massive surveillance, and regulatory power to silence critics.

Smith and Ponte explain prudent steps people can take to restore our nation’s founding values and protect their families and savings through decentralized technologies and diversification.

“You and I have a rendezvous with destiny,” said Ronald Reagan. “We’ll preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on Earth, or we’ll sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness.”

Groups Jointly Sponsor ‘Guns Save Lives Day’ On Bill Of Rights Day

GunSaveLivesSmRGB

BELLEVUE, Wash., Oct. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, the Second Amendment Foundation and DefendGunRights.com announced today they will join together with other groups to sponsor Guns Save Lives Day on Dec. 15, the day after the anniversary of the tragic Newtown, Conn., shootings “because crazy people, criminals and gun control extremists prefer unarmed victims.”

“We are proclaiming Sunday, Dec. 15 as Guns Save Lives Day,” said Alan Gottlieb, president of the Second Amendment Foundation and chairman of the Citizens Committee. “In the coming weeks, you can go to GunsSaveLivesDay.com and get updates on this open source national project that all freedom loving organizations are invited to be a part of.”

In addition, GunsSaveLivesDay.com has an on-line petition for individuals to sign in support of the fundamental right to own a firearm for self-defense. There will be events and activities in all 50 states to counter the anticipated push by the gun prohibition lobby to exploit the anniversary of the Newtown tragedy to push their political agenda.

Guns Save Lives Day was initially planned for December 14th, the day the gun prohibition lobby is planning to exploit theNewtown tragedy to further their anti-firearms civil rights political agenda. “In moving the event back one day to Bill of Rights Day we challenge the gun prohibition lobby to drop their plans to further continue their exploitation and politicization of this horrific tragedy,” Gottlieb added.

“The event is designed to counteract what certainly will be a day of activism and misinformation from the gun prohibition lobby,” noted Larry Ward, founder of DefendGunRights.com. “We wanted to ensure that the public has the facts on gun rights and understand how many Americans stand with them in defense of Second Amendment rights.”

“Americans are concerned about attempts to erode their gun ownership rights, and for good reason,” Gottlieb said. “Our mission with Guns Save Lives Day is to assure them our groups are working day and night to thwart government gun-grabbers at every opportunity. We are going to show America that there is a good side to guns.”

“The Founders understood what many modern-day politicians do not: that Americans are safer – from crime and tyranny – when they have the means to defend themselves,” Ward added.

Americans protect themselves from violent crime with firearms up to two million times annually, by some estimates. Nearly half of those incidents occur away from home, demonstrating the effectiveness of concealed- and open-carry laws. In the majority of those cases, a shot is not even fired, but the presence of the firearm serves as a deterrent to violence.

“No one at Newtown should have been a victim,” Gottlieb said, “and no one in the future should be victimized by laws that do not allow people to defend themselves.”

The Second Amendment Foundation is the nation’s oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms.  Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control.

Senate Immigration Bill Delivers Amnesty and Cheap Labor, but Not Immigration Reform

Border-patrol agent shot in arizona

WASHINGTON, April 16, 2013  — As expected, the Gang of Eight’s long-anticipated immigration plan offers sweeping amnesty for illegal aliens, even greater access to low-wage labor for business interests, and more worthless promises of border security and workplace enforcement, charged the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

Senate leadership is now poised to rush this voluminous piece of legislation to the floor with minimal hearings and little opportunity for members to offer amendments. “Having spent months working on this bill in secret, there is now a clear effort afoot to make sure that the American people do not find out what is in it until after it becomes law,” said Dan Stein, president of FAIR.

What is in the bill:

  • Amnesty for virtually all illegal aliens within six months of enactment.
  • A directive to the Obama administration to create a five-year plan to secure the border—a core function of the executive branch that Congress should not have to dictate.
  • Empty promises of border security based on measures already required by law.
  • Hundreds of thousands of new skilled and low-skilled workers each year, despite historically high levels of unemployment and the lowest labor force participation rate in more than three decades.

“Simply put, Congress has no business even introducing amnesty legislation until the Obama administration secures the border, sets forth clear and transparent metrics to measure its success, and demonstrates to the American people it is serious about enforcing our immigration laws across the country. Border security and the rule of law should not be held hostage to amnesty for illegal aliens. The fact that Congress has to legislatively order the Obama administration to develop a plan to secure the border should be an embarrassment for this president, not something to be welcomed with pride,” Stein stated.

“Nevertheless, the Senate Gang of Eight has finally announced a bill, one that will rob American workers and taxpayers—all to please special interests. This legislation is all about satisfying the demands of illegal aliens and their advocates for amnesty and providing business interests access to low-wage foreign labor.

“Through this bill, the Senate Gang of Eight is offering the American people nothing except recycled promises of better enforcement far in the future. And from the details available, we can be certain that these promises will not be kept either. The programs that grant amnesty to illegal aliens and a steady supply of low-wage labor will be implemented, regardless of whether the border is secure,” continued Stein.

“The Washington and Wall Street elite have the bill they want. Now it is time for the American people to have their say,” Stein noted. “Over the coming weeks, FAIR and other groups dedicated to immigration reform that protects the interests of Americans will be mounting a full-scale effort to educate the public about this bill’s blatant attempt to favor special interests at their expense and to mobilize opposition.

“At a time when the American people are deeply concerned about their jobs, the state of our economy, and dangerous government deficits, we are likely to see the public respond negatively to this expensive and unnecessary legislation. Over the coming weeks and months, every member of Congress will have to explain to angry constituents why the interests of illegal aliens and cheap labor employers are being given precedence over the most essential interests of American workers and taxpayers.

“Congress will have a hard time justifying this special interest sell-out to the American people,” Stein predicted.

No-Bid Defense Contract Wastes Billions in Tax Dollars to Benefit Foreign Corporations

WASHINGTON, Dec. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — A sole source U.S. Army contract was awarded to an Australian based company, Lend Lease, despite a Congressional GAO Report stating it would cost U.S. taxpayers an additional $75 million annually to implement the contract. Lend Lease obtained a 50 year lease of federal U.S. military land, and it sub-contracted to U.K. based InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) to run the hotel operations on 42 U.S. Army bases.

Steve Howard of PAL Exposed noted: “The Privatization of Army Lodging (PAL) program was a no-bid contract which is unnecessarily costing U.S. taxpayers tens of billions of dollars over the next 50 years. It has also affected minority and U.S military veteran owned businesses which are now struggling to stay open. Since we launched the PAL Exposed website in August 2012, there have been repeated hacking attempts to take our website down.”

PAL Exposed was recently notified that hospitality businesses near Fort Huachuca, Arizona have had dozens of Soldiers pulled back to the IHG Army Hotel on base instead of remaining with the original contracted lodging provider. This move is costing the government an additional $100,000 over a two month period. The main reason behind this move was that IHG has a guarantee of occupancy under an exclusive In-License Agreement with the Army. Soldiers may only stay off base once the IHG hotel on post is 100% full. It took a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to produce documents related to this In-License Agreement which was never available in open source documents.

Howard added: “The legality of this In-license agreement is highly questionable. The PAL program stated that IHG would have to compete for business like everyone else, but Lend Lease could not raise sufficient funds in the private bond market; two top credit rating agencies rated the bonds as below investment grade because there was no guarantee that Soldiers would choose to stay at the private hotel on base over a hotel in town. Within weeks of this rating, and without notice to Congress or an official notice though Department of Defense contracting channels, an In-License Agreement between the Army and Lend lease was signed. This amounts to a guarantee of occupancy, and a monopoly, for Lend Lease and IHG.”

Howard went on to note: “In essence, this is no different than the Army forcing soldiers to eat at a Burger King on base. It is a private, for-profit company, and not allowing competition goes against the free market system. Lend Lease and IHG are both foreign based, private, and for-profit companies. Forcing soldiers to stay in their facilities at a higher cost to the U.S. taxpayer is un-American.”

This is a follow up to a previous Press Release regarding the Privatization of Army Lodging issued on August 13, 2012. In the near future, we will be issuing another press release about how small business owners, including veteran owned companies, near these 42 Army bases have been severely impacted or put out of business. Local business groups near a handful of these installations have also banded together and contacted PAL Exposed in the interest of bringing this issue to light. PAL Exposed has engaged the offices of Senator John McCain and Senator Carl Levin through a Congressional Letter but has yet to receive any official comment or position.
