I have been watching the History Channel miniseries entitled “The Sons of Liberty”, the story of the beginnings of the colonies throwing off the yoke of British tyranny. Samuel Adams and his group of patriots banded together with other groups and began the resistance to the overbearing of King George III and his minions. General Thomas Gage took over from the previous appointed “governor” of Massachusetts, Thomas Hutchinson, after the Boston Tea Party and began a repression that became more strict and brutal than ever seen before. Gage was determined to break the spirit of the patriots in Boston by brutality but his tactics only served to strengthen the resolve of the “rebels”, and drove previously disinterested parties into the arms of the Sons of Liberty. The cousin of Sam Adams, future president John Adams, John Hancock, Paul Revere, William Dawes, and others began to drift into the liberty movement as the tactics of Gage became ever more repressive. At the first meeting of colonial representatives John Adams set up, the first Continental Congress in Philadelphia, George Washington stood to speak against Gage, and although the first meeting really accomplished nothing Washington pledged the support of Virginia to the cause of Hancock, the Adams cousins and the people of Boston.
Washington told the trio that for the time being they would have to raise, equip, and train an army on their own. Nothing really came out of the First Continental Congress as many of the colonial representatives saw the uprising as a battle between Boston “radicals” and the British government not having anything to do with their individual colonies. John and Sam Adams went back to Boston with John Hancock and set about putting Washington’s advice into practice, recruiting militia members, buying arms as they could, and pilfering the rest out from under the noses of the British army. They stored their supplies at the Concord farm of William Barrett, a former soldier from the French and Indian War. Gage found out where the arms were being stored and sent a large force out to seize the arms with orders to execute any civilians suspected of harboring or helping the militia. Gage’s “wife”, a native of New Jersey, had a sexual relationship with patriot Dr. Joseph Warren and when she overheard Gage telling his officers to murder citizens she got a warning to Warren and the militia was ready for the soldiers. About 70 colonial militiamen, the first “minutemen”, formed on Lexington Green on April 19, 1775 to oppose the British army march of tyranny. No one really knows who fired the first shot, the “shot heard ’round the world”, but in minutes 8 militiamen were dead and the rest were in rapid retreat. The wounded were executed by the British soldiers and the war was on. When the soldiers got to Concord the militia was ready, having hidden the weapons, and were waiting in ambush. The British found no weapons but their commander, Maj. John Pitcairn, decided to execute Barrett anyway. This is when the militia opened fire from the tree line, routing the British. As they fled back to Boston, the army found themselves under constant ambush attack the entire way because every militia group in the surrounding area had gotten the word and had massed to fight the tyrants. The colonial militias surrounded Boston and Gage decided to attack colonial positions on Bunker Hill, against the advice of some of his senior officers. Gage attacked across Boston Harbor with warships and about 5,000 soldiers. Gage took Bunker Hill after the colonials ran out of munitions but lost thousands of crack troops doing it. Before Gage could follow up on the victory George Washington arrived with about 6,000 fresh militiamen and fresh supplies of munitions. Eventually Gage and Washington met with Washington agreeing to allow the British to peacefully evacuate Boston.
I have seen people call we patriots cowards, saying our founders would have already been shooting politicians over what they are doing now, but those people are ignorant of history. Our founders tolerated quite a lot, beginning in 1763, and only began shooting when forced to do so to keep their firearms in 1775. By my math skills that comes to 12 years of peaceful dissent through civil disobedience in an attempt to persuade government tyrants to relent. I have written about the situation many times, pointing out how much colonists tolerated at the hands of King George III. The murder of a small boy didn’t start the war, nor did The Stamp Act, the Boston Massacre, the confiscation of colonists homes, or any number of other acts of tyranny. The colonists repeatedly petitioned the king to relent before penning the Declaration of Independence. Ignorant people do today’s cause of liberty no good because they have no idea how this nation was formed, the steps taken for peaceful resolution, or the eventual drastic measure of armed resistance that was forced upon them. When the Declaration of Independence was written in Philadelphia, the battle for Bunker Hill was already over and war was in progress.
Today I see much the same situation. We the People, mainly TEA Party people, constantly call, write, fax, or tell members of congress in person what our grievances are but they ignore us and tell us to sit down and shut up; they know what we need and that we are too stupid to know what is good for us. The congressman from my district, Markwayne Mullin (Ok 2) actually told me that people like me are what is wrong with this country, that demanding to have a say is not our right. The Constitution is ignored, perverted, and violated daily by politicians, judges, and bureaucrats. Dictator obama has armed bureaucrats with full automatic weapons and trillions of rounds of ammunition, has armed mexican drug cartels, and is bringing in hundreds of thousands of moslem “refugees” to help him subjugate citizens under his caliphate. He has stated he will use executive orders to abolish the 2nd, 4th, 8th, 9th, and 10th Amendments. Very few members of congress speak out against this tyranny. Most either want obama to succeed and desire to be part of his power structure or fear being called racists. I believe most of them fit into the complicit category, desiring power for themselves, and the wealth they can amass by helping obama. Obama and his demokrat cronies are making agreements to bring in foreign soldiers under the united nations to “suppress domestic terrorism in cities”. The “terrorists” he refers to are not the moslems now committing mass murder with his blessing but patriots like myself who refuse to bow to his Hitlerian tyranny.
It is time for the Sons of Liberty to be reconstituted. I know there are militia groups around the country but they need some national leadership and coordination to be successful when the time comes that we find ourselves facing dictator obama’s storm troopers confiscating our guns. It WILL happen in the near future. Anyone who doesn’t believe this should listen to what obama and his minions say because they constantly say that We the People have no right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment and that he will create a “mandatory” gun surrender plan by executive order. People who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it. I hope every freedom loving American will buy the “Sons of Liberty” DVD set or watch it on the History Channel so they can learn about the founding of this once great nation. I would like to be at the front of the battle for a return to liberty but a severe stroke in August 2014 has left me very disabled so my battleground will have to remain in the domain of educating, enlightening, and encouraging others more physically able than myself. I have the military training and experience necessary to be a factor but now lack the physical ability to do so.
Some have ridiculed me over similar articles I have written, saying I am hiding behind my keyboard trying to incite a revolution or that we can’t win. Neither attitude is true. I am only stating facts and alerting people to what the government is up to in their quest for total rule over We the People. I sign my real name and home town on every article and I live in a small rural town so can’t and don’t desire to hide. On the other point, British generals considered the colonists to be “farmers with pitchforks” yet those “farmers with pitchforks” defeated the most powerful military in the world, along with their German Hessian allies. I serve the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and his son, Jesus Christ. Our founders were peaceful men who wanted only the freedoms given them by Almighty God and looked to Him for guidance and help. I am of the same mold, a peaceful man who worships God and desires the same liberties our founders did. Don’t mistake that as cowardice. We the People can win, just as the colonists did. It won’t be easy and it won’t be without cost in money and blood but it can be done.
I submit this in the name of the Most Holy Trinity, in faith, with the responsibility given to me by Almighty God to honor His work and not let it die from neglect.
