It is curious that the Obama administration opposes ending aid when the coup was against a President representing the Muslim Brotherhood, which he has supported in the past, albeit fairly clandestinely. We can suppose that somehow the money will end up bolstering Egyptian radical Islam rather than their opponents. Another view holds that since this administration spends as much money as possible at every turn, though the amount of aid to Egypt is small (less than .1% of the “budget”) every little bit helps bring us closer to the national bankruptcy which some conspiracy theorists believe has been the Cloward-and-Piven-model goal from the Obama gitgo.
