    Let me guess;

    Ms Lewis was “raised” (educated) in the public school system.

    By and large so was I. (1st and 2nd grade in a Christian private school). I did not go to a Communist University, however, and my parents had strong conservative Christian values they “forced” me to adhere to for as long as they could force me to do anything. My children were educated in a Conservative Christian School thanks almost entirely to both sets of Grandparent – as their parents were not able to do so. There was, of course, no government help.

    I also know a couple with whom I argued conservative values against their liberal beliefs. At the time they were childless (he was an engineer and she was a public school teacher). I lost touch with them but years later became acquainted again. By then they had children of their own and my engineer friend admitted that after they became parents it seemed their views about some of the liberalism they had once defended wasn’t quite so appealing any more; they had become more conservative, now faced with the well being for their own kids….

    Imagine that!

    I guess what I’m getting to is that the general parental dereliction and lazy, short-sighted, self absorbed assumption that it is better to let the government raise your kids that has displaced the old ideas of parenthood are perhaps equally to blame for the short-changing of our children’s minds. There are still many, many parents who have the conviction of responsibility toward their children and toward our society but so many parents lack that conviction or the depth to actually care about the actual well being of their children. I believe it makes all the difference in the world, the political and social squalor of our education system not withstanding.

    I was taught to think for myself by parents who cared about me. Being able to think and reason is paramount to the responsibility we bear toward society. At the risk of sounding simplistic I believe people who have not been taught the core values of our society and who have not the tools and confidence to think for themselves gravitate toward liberalism because liberalism is a regimented set of ideals that really leave nothing for you to decide for yourself. Nor is reason and logic – common sense – a part of the liberal ideals. People with the ability to reason and grasp the concepts of common sense quickly realize the hypocrisy of the Progressive agenda”! It is actually a repugnancy! They naturally gravitate toward conservatism. Actual truth is almost always self-evident and the pursuit of truth is almost always the fundamental motive of Conservative thinking. Thus people who can reason for themselves and grasp common sense tend to be conservatives. I’ve seen in action how liberal automatons, when left to decide for themselves, start to question some of the shenanigans that are going on but quickly get in step when someone they recognize as a liberal authority steps up and tells them what to think. Then they fall right back in line. It is truly an astonishing thing to see…

    I believe people who gravitate toward Conservatism value the ability to reason and grasp truth above all else!

    Ms. Lewis, I have no personal knowledge of, yet I am most confident that she would never for an instance believe, let alone accept, that she is a hypocrite. Yet it is self -evident to all of us!

    My question then is, what do we do? Like so much of the Federal Government, the Law of the Land never authorized its control of education. That would have been a power left to the numerous States and to the People. How do we wrest it back?

    Lest we not forget, Ms. Lewis took her union to the picket lines last year, demanding a 16% wage increase.

    This demand was made at a time when residents of The Peoples Republic of Illinois saw a 66% increase in State Income Taxes(the same year), and most of them saw drastic increases in property taxes, even though property values have dived to an all-time low in our state.

    Ms. Lewis is exemplary of everything that is wrong with our country, this state, and specifically Chicago. For decades(more than 7), Chicago has been in a state of decline due to crony politics, theft through crony politics, federal investigations(see Operation Graylord for example). The politicians, which Ms. Lewis can be categorized as, live in ivory towers, whereby they cast aspersions on any/all who don’t bow to their whims. The race baiting is nothing new in our city, as people like Bobby Rush(a felonious bomb thrower in the 60’s) have been using the despicable tactic forever, all the while encouraging that which removes funding from students and passes it across the ledger to the teachers’ salaries/benefits lines.

    Illinois, like California is a Marxist bastion, used by the Obamas, Lewises, and Emmanuels of the world to push destructive policies to further push the citizenry into the position of total reliance on the government for food, clothing, housing, medical, etc.

    The plans of these Marxists are never far from the surface, and one can see Ms. Lewis wants Marxism for Chicago students, given her weekend of Marxism in the Classroom seminar she led last year. Just don’t look for her, or any of the other hypocrites to give up their yearly new cars, brownstones in Lincoln Park/Hyde Park, and vacation homes in Wisconsin Dells. Its Marxism for thee, but not for me as far as they are concerned!

    Good piece-I’ll be a regular reader from now on!
