Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali, a prosecutor trying a case that stems from the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, was killed while heading to a court in Rawalpindi. The gunmen opened fire on Ali’s vehicle as he passed through Islamabad, according to police.
Ali was rushed to a hospital, but Dr. Wasim Khawaja said that Ali died prior to arrival.
An assigned bodyguard was also wounded in the attack. The bodyguard was assigned to Ali after he recieved threats from the Pakistani Taliban according to police spokesman Javed Hussain.
The unidentified gunmen are still at large, police said.
