Professor calls for abolition of Constitution

5916-SaidmanFor decades, the left has criticized the U.S. Constitution and derided the great men who wrote it. Using subterfuge and judicial activism, they have been largely successful in rolling back the unique provisions contained in that awesome document – along with a significant portion of our individual liberties.

Still, the typical leftist mouthpiece is politically deft and generally pays the Constitution lip service, avoiding blatant support of ditching it altogether.

Such subtlety does not apply to a Georgetown University professor inexplicably teaching constitutional law to impressionable minds.

In an opinion piece published by none other than the New York Times, professor Louis Michael Seidman blamed America’s “insistence on obedience to the Constitution, with all its archaic, idiosyncratic and downright evil provisions” for the nation’s current economic crisis.

He calls it an “obsession” that led to “a dysfunctional political system” and cites his disagreement with our government’s fundamental foundations, including a “grotesquely malapportioned Senate.”

The professor continues by rehashing the tired argument that the Constitution’s authors were “a group of white propertied men who have been dead for two centuries, knew nothing of our present situation, acted illegally under existing law and thought it was fine to own slaves.”

What he completely ignores is that despite not knowing the future – or perhaps, because of it – our founders developed a system of government that could survive indefinitely, provided we elect moral leaders who defend and uphold the rule book they left us.

Alas, the American voter cannot always be trusted to choose such a candidate.

There are a few gems tucked away in the Constitution this sanctimonious professor believes are good ideas. He likes much of the First Amendment, for example, but doesn’t feel we should extend such freedoms out of “obligation.”

He also submitted that there is “something to be said for an elite body like the Supreme Court with the power to impose its views of political morality on the country,” probably excited at the prospect of Barack Obama naming multiple justices during his second term.

Still, he feels the only way America can face the future is by “constitutional infidelity.”

Unfortunately, this professor is not alone in his views and our current president has shown contempt for the Constitution on multiple occasions.

5916-kafkaThat document made America entirely unique. This nation was founded on principles of self-reliance and liberty no other nation before it had known.

Our founders knew future leaders would be tempted to seize increasing power for themselves and they included safeguards against such abuses. To be sure, plenty of politicians have found ways to work around those provisions, but it would obviously be much simpler if they could just disregard them completely.

That, I’m afraid, is the real intent behind the un-American ravings of leftists like this Georgetown professor.

  1. Shame on the NY Times for giving this subversive Professor an elevated forum to spew his traitorous belief that the Foundation upon which our country was built and defended by the blood of American soldiers, should be thrown away because, as he claims “it’s archaic, idiosyncratic and downright evil provisions”. He would have us throw it in the trash so others can move on with their subverted desires to create a country that would horrify our Founding Fathers. It’s very important to note that our Founding Fathers knew very well that this form or government would serve our country well for centuries, provided the country was filled citizens and elected representatives of high moral character with the best of intentions toward those they served. Jefferson, without such high moral character and values, this system of government would not survive. Apparently, they knew the treasonous, greedy and self serving hearts of such treasonous men would not respect or uphold our Foundation of the Constitution with it’s checks and balances. Jefferson has certainly been proven right and must be as sad as I am this historic night.

  2. Ann, you are right, a multitude of sacrifices have been made to protect our beloved nation & they must not have been in vain. Our univrsities & even elementary schools ALL have ‘teachers’saying the same things. We have been much too comfortable in our assumed exceptionlizm & rights that we became lax & unaware. After all, this is the United States of America! Had we ‘known’ & been paying attention for the last couple of generations, this professor would not have been in his position to speak from. There seems to still be an air of disbelief that a Country like ours is vunerable, so perhaps the paper did us a favor with this slap in the face. Our schools are filled with progressives, statist, lefties etc. They teach what they know, which doesnt seem to be much in the way of history. In Tuscon, children are being taught that Mexico is the rightful owner of that area..Across the Country, American flags are relagated to lesser status or removed…So as dispicable as this is…it’s not new or isolated. So now what? United, we can surround & overcome. We still ‘have’ Our Constitution & even tattered it can serve us well. Changing or eliminating an amendment call for the “convening of a Constitutional Convention” We MUST NOT allow that, once it open the doors any (all) can be changed or eliminated!!! Even if your representation in D.C. is the one you voted for, write & ask their position on issue that concern you. If you don’t get answers that you like or don’t get one at all, keep on asking & demanding. You tell them what you expect! Encourage those around you to do the same. Again I point out that the grassroot efforts through the Tea Parties, 9-12’s & other coalitions carry a lot of weight as we’ve seen. Using outside voices, let freedom ring!!

  3. My heart breaks over the blood that has been spilled in order to defend this TRAITOR’s right to voice his opinion. Tears well up when I think about all the poison he has installed in young minds. There is an easy solution to your objection to our Timeless Constitution, Louie!

    LEAVE!

(…and you call yourself an America? – I would trade you for 100 illegal aliens who want to stand for our Sacred Document!!!!)

  4. Thank you for writing this Christopher. Eloquently stated: Our Founders did not see future, but knew enough to write a Constitution that could survive, as you say, by we people electing moral leaders. So it is not the Constitution that is wrong, as this leftist professor tries to assume, it is we the voters. We elect those we want, and we have the choice to remove if those policies they enact are repugnant to the Constitution. If we don’t, it’s our fault.

  5. Furthermore mr seeeedman, as you sit pompous and all modern and progressive on you throne of Constitutional expertise, I wonder if it occurs to you while under the provisions of the very document you so disregard, that you have NO guarantee that anything to replace It would be so much better! You Utopia-philes are all the SAME! You imagine how much better it would be if ONly you could mold (read – forced, bamboozled, cajoled, humiliated and otherwise herded) the masses into the sweet, brotherly loving, we-are-all-equal little automatons you dream of. If only we could get all of these stupid freedom mongers out of the way! The world would be green and clean and free of trouble.

Did it ever occur to you that what you most likely will get is a new much darker document that will ultimately give the government not only the authority to liquidate you for anything you say but even think against its declaration of mandate? You enjoy the liberty of flippantly disparaging the Constitution with no more worry that to piss off a lot of Constitutional Americans like me who cannot do what SHOULD be done to you. But in the New order you may find that liberty is mortally GONE! You may consider the Constitution out of date but it certainly SEEMs to be working for you currently. Isn’t it? I mean, I understand you like certain parts, like the part about freedom of speech – oh how shallow can a hypocrite be?! What your sadly and sickeningly over estimated little mind doesn’t understand is the Constitution is like a sheet of glass – if you break part of it you break all of it!

I am amazed at how utterly stupid intelligent people can be. Go ahead, Louie. Roll the dice. Hold a Constitutional Convention. SEEE what you get!

  6. Prof. Seidman gives no credence to timeless principles of truth, justice, or liberty. He has no appreciation for the dignity of the individual. He worships the collectivist mindset as “progressives” do in their communist bent, with no respect for an immutable structure defining a righteous and representative republic. Seidman’s liberal sort will never respect that. Liberal academics crave the exercise of raw tyrannical power because they serve and advise the autocratic elite wielding state forces to control every aspect of life on the planet according to their exalted ungodly sciences of domination to build an inhumane technocratic New World Order.
