America’s Answer to Politicians: Oklahoma State Senator Nathan Dahm
I came home from visiting a daughter yesterday evening and found my brightest moment of the young year. I had a notification from a social network site I belong to, Tea Party Command Center, of a story about the “Gun Appreciation Day” event in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Saturday Jan. 19, 2013. It featured a video of a newly elected state senator speaking about the constitutional rights of We the People. The video was beyond inspiring to me.
State Senator Nathan Dahm (R- Dist 33, Broken Arrow) lifted my spirits greatly with remarks to the crowd that show we do indeed still have elected political officials willing to stand up and publicly slap down the elitist Washington establishment. Dahm pointed out something I really wasn’t aware of when he asked the crowd what the three branches of AMERICAN government are. Like everyone there I was incorrect in my answer. I have read the Constitution of the United States of America thoroughly many times and am more than knowledgeable on the document. I answered Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. WRONG!!!! Dahm tells us. I will let you watch the video to find the correct answer.
This is exactly what We the People need to counter the power play being undertaken by Barack Obama, Democrats, and RINO Republicans in the federal government, and many in state governments (New York comes to mind with the Cuomo and Bloomberg rants against liberty). Dahm has taken the stand that the Constitution tells us what is and what isn’t legal, what a novel idea. He also points out in his talk that there is more than just the 10th Amendment to stand on. He points out the 9th Amendment and says he finds that one more important than its successor. The 9th Amendment reads:
Dahm explains that this amendment says no branch of government is allowed to “construe”, or interpret, a right away from We the People. What have bureaucrats, politicians, and courts been doing for 50 years? That’s right, interpreting the Constitution to mean what they desire it to mean not what the founding fathers wrote it to mean, thereby denying citizens the rights intended by the authors of said Constitution. They have “construed” the Constitution as a means of social engineering our nation into a dictatorial oligarchy.
Senator Dahm and people like him are the “political saviors” of We the People. He is standing up for the ideals and principles this nation was founded upon. Dahm also stated in his remarks that the right to possess firearms, the right to self-defense, is a God given right guaranteed by the Constitution, not a right given to us by a benevolent government. The problem we have is politicians seeing the God-given rights guaranteed by our constitution as their “permission” that can be revoked as they please. King George III, anyone????
I watched this video after seeing all of the stories lately about county sheriffs who have stated publicly that they will not enforce, nor allow to be enforced, any law, dictate, or ruling that violates the letter or the intent of our Constitution and the founding fathers who established it as the law of the land.
These men are our anchor to liberty and they should be vigorously supported by all freedom-loving American citizens. They are not merely paying lip service to our freedom as many in government do. They are actually standing up and publicly stating they will honor their oath of office, unlike most in politics and many in non-political elected offices such as sheriffs. Too many, especially In Washington D.C., pay lip service to the Constitution without really doing anything to back up their words. They tell us they will not take our freedom away while taking our freedom away. Dahm is a refreshing wave.
We must retain what liberty we have left and then start a march back to the liberty established by so many during our Revolutionary War and preserved by so many since. A few months ago I thought the ultimate result of this power hungry bunch in Washington would be another Revolutionary War, with massive casualties among citizens willing to stand up for liberty. I saw a real shooting war in an attempt to thwart the plans of Washington insiders to turn my beloved nation into a third world banana dictatorship. I thought the expression “live free or die” would have more meaning than I ever could have imagined. The reaction by sheriffs nationwide and state elected officials like Nathan Dahm have given me a new perspective to live with. We the People are not by ourselves, we are not alone. There are true patriots in elected political office and sheriffs willing to publicly stick a finger in the eye of would-be dictators in both political parties.
I recently wrote my elected state representative and senator asking them to forego the usual party loyalty and show their loyalty to their oath of office, the Constitution, and the citizens. I will also forward this video to them as a reminder of what I expect. I hope every person who reads this will forward the video to their state legislators. Let them know you will stand with them as they stand with you. They must be sure We the People will have their backs when they take stands that are dangerous to them both politically and personally. Neither political party is going to willingly accept this kind of behavior from “one of their own”. If the hatchet-men of both political parties have not taken aim at Dahm and those like him it won’t be long before they do.
I also just wrote my county sheriff on this matter. Scott Walton of Rogers County, Oklahoma is a lifelong Democrat who ran as a Republican in 2012 because he knew he could not win on the Democrat side of the ticket. I had written him before on the matter of gun control but received no response. During the campaign he was less than forthcoming with his stand on the 2nd Amendment, and that is a more than kind assessment. I took the remarks I heard Walton make as him being against private ownership of firearms although he never directly said so. He did the typical political “Potomac Two-Step” on more than one occasion when questioned about his position on the 2nd Amendment.
We have the opportunity to push liberalism/progressivism back very long ways if we will support those who are putting their lives, and careers, on the line for the freedom many of us hold dear. Nathan Dahm, Sheriffs Mack and Arpaio, and others like them (30 of 33 sheriffs in New Mexico, for instance) are what liberty-loving American citizens have been crying out for. It is imperative that we now stand up and support them loudly and clearly. They have answered the call to freedom and we owe it to them, ourselves, our descendents, and most of all our predecessors to stand with them regardless of the pressure put out by tyrants. We can win if we will put our pleas for help into action. These men have answered the call, have shown they care, and shown they have the courage to protect the freedoms God gave us. Now it is time for all Americans to acknowledge their courage and make sure they don’t stand alone when the rubber hits the road.
Our future is brighter today because of people like Nathan Dahm. My heart-felt thanks and total support go out to him and those who have made the decision to stand up for the liberty given to me and my loved ones by God, and guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States of America.
I submit this in the name of the Most Holy Trinity, in faith, with the responsibility given to me by Almighty God to honor His work and not let it die from neglect.
