		<description><![CDATA[for me, plain and simple, conservatives need to reach out to young people.  the 21st century happened, the internet happened, and now we are all growing up much more exposed to all kinds of different cultural perspectives, and that is not ever going to change.  exposure inevitably leads to desensitization, and from there tolerance.  The fact that so many of the major spokespeople for the Republican party are older, out-of-touch with youth culture and most importantly socially narrow-minded inevitably leads to a lack of interest in joining the party from young people.  messages of government reform/downsizing, tax code reform/lower taxes, fiscal responsibility, a strong foreign policy etc.; all of these things could resonate strongly with young people.  but they are turned off too severely by watching angry old men rant about the sanctity of marriage and &quot;legitimate rape.&quot; It takes a lot of energy to care passionately about what other people do in the privacy of their own homes, and it is going to be very hard to motivate young people to jump on that bandwagon when they grow up exposed to so much of the world through the internet and the social media.  and the trend of an increased exposure to such elements of society is something that has marched forward regardless of who is in office, democrat or republican. society has gotten looser and more tolerant over the last 100 years.  if the Republican party does not react to this sea change then it will splinter and cease to exist as a viable political option.]]></description>
