The Associated Press is reporting that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has granted permission for the remains of his predecessor, Yasser Arafat, to be exhumed, according to an aide. This comes only days after Switzerland’s Institute of Radiation Physics reported that they had found elevated traces of a radioactive substance on the belongings of Arafat.
The Institute’s findings have reignited the suspicions that poisoning led to Arafat’s death on Nov. 11, 2004 in a French military hospital.
Abbas has granted permission to exhume Arafat’s body after consulting with Arafat’s family, as well as religious leaders.
