Democrat Calls for Hearings on Radical Christianity

David Edwards at The Raw Story reports that Congressman Al Green feels that committee hearings on radical Islam might be more even-handed if Congress would hold hearings on radical Christianity as well.

Texas Congressman Al Green (D) says he wouldn’t mind Rep. Peter King (R-NY) repeatedly calling hearings on “radical Islam” if he would also conduct a “hearing on the radicalization of Christians.”

Green expressed concern that the proceedings were focusing only on one religion. Of course, we haven’t had a whole bunch of trouble with radical Jews flying planes into American skyskrapers, there hasn’t been a rash of radicalized Baptists murdering service men and women on American bases nor have there been a wave of Catholic suicide bombers blowing themselves up in marketplaces.

To be fair, Congressman Green at first was not only calling for hearings on radical Christians. He felt that we should have hearings on all kinds of religious radicals without a special focus on Muslims.  But before long, Rep. Green went straight after those who worship Christ.

People who see the hearings and never hear about the hearing on the radicalization of Christianity have to ask themselves, ‘Why is this missing?’ Why don’t we go to the next step and ask, how is that a blue-eyed, blonde-haired, white female in the United States of America can become radicalized to the point of wanting to do harm to this country? We don’t have that type of hearing. That’s the problem.”

This is a sad extension of political correctness. Of course Congress is looking into Muslim radicalization in America as it poses a proven (time and again) threat to the safety and well-being of United States Citizens and U.S. property. It isn’t a statement that all Muslims are a danger, but that radicalization within the Muslim faith should be seriously regarded as a threat.

As if their credibility was unquestioned, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) issued an analysis of Rep. Peter King, the chair of the committee holding the hearing. In it, CAIR concluded that King should be discredited because the group found him to have an anti-Muslim bias. Shocker. Really.

Back in March, The Daily Beast also tried to discredit the hearings:

Is most American terrorism Muslim terrorism? Actually, no. Over the last decade or so, there’s been at least as much domestic terrorism by folks like Timothy McVeigh, Theodore Kaczynski, Eric Rudolph (who bombed the 1996 Atlanta Olympics)

A key point missed by the extreme liberal publication was that McVeigh, Kaczynski and Rudolph, while not Muslim, were also not radicalized Christians or Jews or whatever. There was no massive, organized effort to turn those three men into maniacs nor was their a connection between them.

In closing, the Beast just couldn’t resist making a reference to Conservatives as racists:

I once ate a Shabbat meal in Salt Lake City, where my hosts—staunch Republicans and Orthodox Jews—talked with wonder about the extreme courtesy with which their Mormon neighbors accommodated their religious needs. Conservatives, they explained, were actually more tolerant of minority faiths than liberals. I’d like to believe that a Muslim family in Utah or Alabama could say the same today.

Nothing like a generalization to get an errant point across.. Conservatives are by nature tolerant- individual liberty depends on the respect of individual liberties and freedoms. Where Conservatives differ is when a group targets their families, homes and businesses. Americans of every faith or no faith are free to do as they please in America. Conservatives don’t harbor ill will on Muslims – just the ones aspiring to blow themselves up amid our families one day – the radicalized Muslims.
