Political Spin in the Classroom- How it’s Hurting America

Benjamin Franklin once said “The good education of youth has been esteemed by wise men in all ages, as the surest foundation of the happiness both of private families and of common-wealths,”

He and the rest of the Founders recognized that the continuation of liberty is in the hands of an educated electorate. When the people are uninformed, they can be manipulated and enslaved- case in point- the feudalist system in the Middle Ages.

So, if the education of the public, and particularly young people, is crucial in a free society, the role of the teacher is perhaps one of the most important. They influence the individual at a crucial age- when they are discovering the world and learning to think for themselves. By opening the young mind to the wonders of society and humanity, a good professor can inspire passion in a student to succeed and change the world. And that is a truly beautiful thing.

But what happens when the teacher misuses their position? What happens when the teacher uses their position to push a private agenda, poisoning the student’s mind through malicious lies?

Given the trust and importance placed in public educators, is this duplicity not a betrayal of the free society they are supposed to be preserving?

I have spent many lectures fighting back tears of anger as my professors malign everything I believe in, mocking the conservative way of thinking, lying about the goals of an opposing party, snickering at anyone who has the guts to stand up and try to defend what they believe in. Can there be anything more despicable than a professor who uses their position to put down young people who are just learning to stand up for themselves? Yes, freedom of speech is crucial to public dialogue, and teachers have a right to their opinion, but do those opinions have a place in the classroom, especially when they are used it to be divisive and to bully?

And what about the lies? How many students take what their teachers say at face value, as they should be able to, and live in the manufactured reality of political spin? Shouldn’t we be able to place trust in our educators? Is it any wonder then, when the classroom is used as a propaganda platform, that the right wing is so unabashedly maligned in the public dialogue?

And perhaps the most crucial question, what does this mean for the future of our country? When students are lied to, taught not to think for themselves, and believe in the absolute evil of a certain way of thinking, how can a free society survive? This is where education becomes a national security issue. This is what the Founders warned about. The teacher has the power to shape the destiny of the next generation. And when they use their position to indoctrinate rather than promote critical thought, teach them to be guided by the opinions of others- that is when the next generation becomes slaves to the government, rather than the masters of it.

  1. I enjoyed school. I never could understand why there were kids who hated school. Sure everyone has teachers they don’t like, I did. But to hate learning, there is something wrong with that. But that was a long time ago when I was in school back in the 50’s and 60’s. These kids these days are truely being brain washed. When I found out that my son had to sit and watch “Inconvenient Truth” without my being notified about the schools showing something I knew was a lie, and not only that but who gave the authorization to distribute that movie throughout all of America’s schools? That was when my son was in the eighth grade. Then when he went to high school the next year his nineth grade class had to sit and watch that movie again!! I came ungluded! I told them I demand that they notify me every single time they are giving book assignments, having movies that the kids “have” to watch, and if they didn’t I was going to pull my kid out of school and get myself a lawyer and sue them. I was so angry.

I know that I am the last “fully” educated generation to attend American schools when the “standard” of excellence was the prime goal of what education was supposed to be held up to. The teachers knew what their job was and they took it serious. And that was they were producing the next generation of leaders and creators of jobs in America. But that was before Thurgood Marshall took it upon himself to destroy White man’s education that was found in all the “non Black public school system” schools especially in the South so that the “standard” that was found in those schools would never be what “kept” Black kids from ever reaching their goals in life. You couldn’t have ever gotten further from the truth. What the truth was, was that only those who were excelling in their studies in the Black schools were the only ones who should have been allowed to come to the non Black public schools. Then that name would have been changed naturally to just the public schools where the high standard of excellence that was found in those schools had been preserved, promoted, protected, and the same chances to succeed would have been offered to the ones who deserved it.

We were putting men on the moon when the standard of excellence was being protected in America’s education system. But once racists and liberals took control of them through the newly formed Dept. of Education, that was the last time we ever went to the moon, or did anything that came from a mind that was inspired to reach for something that no one had ever reached for before. That kind of thinking was stopped because it made all the Blacks that weren’t capable of that level of thinking look even worse. And it showed up on the tests they took before liberals realized that there was no way most all Blacks who had been put in the former non Black public schools could come up to even average. They decided to do something about that and that was to begin the dumming down of all American children who were attending public school. Liberals decided to turn all those schools over to educating Blacks and all the others would not be given the education that would have been fair and deserving of their intellegence, and that included both Black and White. From that point on liberals embarked on the quest to educate even the dummest Black so as to show that liberals knew how to develope every kids mind and not just those kids who were smart, like it used to be when Blacks had their own school system.

The problem was liberals had no idea of how a kid became smart. And it wasn’t from being taught the LEAP test either. A kid becomes smart when the system is kept at as high a standard as it can be. That’s the way it used to be back when I was in school. We didn’t even know it was hard. All we knew was, that is what you had to do in order to go to the next grade, that’s all. Then you did it and got through. When you graduated from high school you were more than ready for college. And the colleges didn’t have to teach remedial subjects in order to catch the kids up to where they were supposed to be, not have a eighth grade education sitting in a first year college classroom.

    1. I like how this comment is longer than the actual article.

Anyways,I am a 15 year old. I am in these schools, the article and your comment is 100% correct. I have had two teachers so far (both sadly in the 7th grade where we still weren’t educated enough to stand up against it) where they tried to shove liberal ideas into our heads. I have the pleasure of working with all kinds of people, and it’s true, the teenage minds of today are poisoned. Then, there is the few, like me, that saw through the lies of the liberals.

I simply wanted to comment to say I agree.

  2. If you wanted to turn the schools back to the way they used to be, first you would have to establish schools to put all those who cannot keep up or who are incapable of doing work at a level which is designed to give a kid the ability to think critically, absorb high level thinking, and understand that it was old White men who created the greatest nation on earth, and not a Black, Mexican, or Chinese but a White Englishman now an American. And the kids would have to understand that that is just the way it is, then move on from there. If you couldn’t get beyond that then you might as well give up, because unless one race realizes that it wasn’t their race that built this nation into the powerhouse it used to be, then trying to go beyond that would be a waste of time because that one race would not accept anything else you had to tell them.

  3. I believe in an equal opportunity for everyone to get a good education. But I demand that what is taught is what my generation was taught, and what we were taught about. We weren’t taught that all Black people are stupid and dumb. We weren’t taught that anyone who is of a different race is better than anyone in another race than mine. We weren’t taught anything about race as a matter of fact. We were taught that a spanish guy landed on the Cuban coast and declared that land to be the property of Spain. That’s it. We didn’t learn that the Spanish STOLE land from the innocent Cuban’s. And we weren’t taught that if a poor person isn’t given what he needs to live that it is racism. We were taught that every man has the right to take care of himself and that he should want to take care of himself. That’s all. We were taught the truth about what America was created by our forefathers to be. That’s all. We knew when we made it out of Civics class we didn’t have to take that anymore, but we did learn something about how our government is supposed to work, and what we see in Washington now is NOT how our government is supposed to be.

It saddens me that we weren’t allowed to preserve ther high standard of excellence that was found in the non Black public schools. And it’s a shame that the Blacks had to be kept in their own schools. But you see what happened when every one of them were allowed to come into an environment that was not like the one they came from. Those Blacks should have been kept out of the non Black public schools, and every Black student who was known to not be acceptable should have been kept in the Black schools. But liberals felt that unless every single Black kid was not allowed to be put into the non Black public school then they would have sued that school for discremination and racism. No, it wasn’t racism it was the fact that even some White kids weren’t allowed to go to school with us because they were trouble makers and were to dumb to learn. Those kids were put in “remedial” schools where they were taught “reading, writing, and Arithmatic (or math) as it was later renamed”. Some were sent to “Trade school” to learn a trade like being a mechanic or a plumber, or a carpenter, you know, the “Trades”. Blacks who were either known to be unacceptable or undesireable could have been put there, or the ones who were found to be unable to make the grade should have been taken out and put somewhere else, but not just kept in the school to cause all the trouble he wanted to cause.

That sort of behavior is not good for a learning environment. The school that me and nearly every other kid went to was strictly a learning environment, where a kid went to get a quality education where they could go on and make something of themselves. Not the criminal environments that many schools are now. And where Socialism is taught, and hate for anyone who has gone on and made something of themselves, where the LEAP test is the only gauge of whether a kid is learning……what? When I was in school you took tests in the class you were in. At the end of the first semester you took a big test on everything you had been taught that semester. That was usually before Christmas. Then at the end of the year we took what is still called “final exams”. But what ours was was what we had been taught the entire year. That was the one that made up most of a kids grade for that year. All the other scores from the class tests were added up including you score from the first semester tests and that was your grade for the year.

So it was the kid who passed. It was the kid who had to learn all that the teacher was teaching the class. It was the kid who had to pass the tests. It was the kid who was responsible for studying what he/she was taught in that class he/she was taking. It was the kid who had to learn what was being taught, and had to pass the tests on what the kid was supposed to have studied, both home work which was about two or sometimes three hours every night, which was given so that the kid had more to learn at home at night, then that work was brought to class the next day to add to what was being taught that day.

See, it all built upon what you were being taught and what you were supposed to be learning. It was up to the teacher to make sure she was giving you the correct information and discussion about the subject in a manner that was interesting and educational for the kid. Not anything else!!! It was all up to the kid!! Not anyone else!! It was up to the kid to do the learning, not the parent after school!!! It was up to the kid to do the work, not the parent. That was changed by liberals to make sure the Black mothers, and that was because most didn’t have fathers, were around and HAD to help the kid with what the teacher assigned them to do for that night. Not the subject of that class that the kid brought home that THEY were to do that night, like it was when I was in school!!!

That is how things would have to be brought back to in order to begin producing bright, smart, young people of all races if this nation is to begin to produce young people who could make America the great nation it used to be. Everything else like it is now would have to be destroyed and start over from scratch!! Otherwise this nation will fail.

  4. Some of you may think all that I’ve said sounds “racist”. Well, it’s not. It’s that YOU have been brain washed by liberalism to think that giving a Black information that doesn’t glorify his race is not what education is, that racial justice is what he is to learn. Anyone who is a product of the government run, liberal controled, Socialist propaganda public school which is what Soviet kids were taught is NOT what education is. What school was like, and don’t think the Black kids weren’t being taught the same think in their schools, because they were, just in the way they learn, that’s all. Blacks learn differently from Whites and it is based on culture, and deep racial differences that are what makes up all races.

There has to be a education that superseeds all of that sort of thing and it is in just presenting the facts and the truth, and nothing else. Not given to the kids with a Black slant, or a White slant, or a government slant, or a liberal slant, or an environmentalist slant, but just the facts and the truth, THAT’S ALL.

Do that, and any kid will become educated and smart, not like they are now, dumb and stupid.
