THIS JUST IN! Reagan & Kennedy Lose the GOP Nomination!!

…… speaking of cannibalism…..

It seems unfathomable for most civilized human beings (insert OWS joke here) that there are species on our perfectly accidental planet that will actually eat there own offspring.  Surely, the random bumpage of protoplasms that resulted in our “whoopsies” world, would produce species’ that would at least have instinct telling them “future of species, don’t eat”, right?

So why can’t the Republican Party clue into this, I wonder?  I would figure that the “munch on your own kid” crowd would go the way of the dodo.  It seems like country-club Republicans have traded in the champagne and caviar for the taste of their own flesh.  Yet they are not the only ones.  The Conservative wing of the party, if a vain attempt to channel the spirit of Ronald Reagan, have systematically burned several great candidates to death…. and we’re not even to Iowa yet.

Some say this is the vetting process.  I can deal with vetting, not lynching.  Even Michael Reagan, the adopted, yet only true son of the Great Communicator himself has said that if his father was running for the GOP nomination today, the attacks would be coming from the right, not the left.

Have we so idolized Reagan that we have forgotten what he was like BEFORE he became President?  This was a Governor of a liberal state at the height of the Vietnam protests.  He signed legislation for “no-fault” divorce and raised taxes on a number of occasions.  Had we put him in the crucible that is today’s political proctological exam, would we have nominated him?

Let’s say JFK was lifted out of Dallas a split second before the assignation.  First, if you dropped him down in 2011 and said name the 2 parties, I am pretty sure he would have called Republicans, Democrats and Democrats, Socialists.

But I digress….

“It is a paradoxical truth that tax rates are too high today and tax revenues are too low and the soundest way to raise revenues in the long run is to cut rates now. The experience of a number of European countries has borne this out. This country’s own experience with tax reduction has borne this out. The reason is that only full employment can balance the budget and tax reduction can pave the way to full employment. The purpose of cutting taxes is not to incur a budget deficit, but to achieve the more prosperous, expanding economy which will bring a budget surplus.”  Had Kennedy uttered those words at a recent Republican debate, he may have been lambasted for being too right wing; not from the left, but from the “right”!!!

This is becoming a tragic tradition in the Republican party’s vetting process; that we beat a candidate within an inch of his/her political life, leaving them to bake in the sun and at the mercy of the main stream media.  We did it to Mike Huckabee in 2008 and pushed Mitt Romney around just enough that we ended up with….. McCain? Did anyone else look up halfway through the primary season in 2008 and say, “how the hell did THAT happen??!!” Many would argue the tradition even goes back to 2000.  Regardless of the origin, we seem to have perfected our in-house water boarding technique by already toasting Perry, Bachmann and Cain.  Now Newt is in the cross hairs.  Is it asking too much to have our candidates not be killed by friendly fire, because the alternative is another 4 years of Barack Obama.

If we don’t put on the brakes – and I mean slam the foot on the pedal and shove it through the floorboard – in the next 4 years, we’re done as the country of the 1776 revolution.  That’s not just a political platitude.  Admiral Mullen was right when he cited the national debt as being the greatest enemy facing the county today.  No enemy from without will bring us to our knees faster than an imploding economy.  Obama’s got his foot on the gas and couldn’t care less if he blows the engine.  He’ll just call it “lazy” as it flies off the cliff.

Any RINO is just going to take 10 more years to do the exact same thing.  Yes, we need a true conservative in the White House, but we can’t make the mistake of holding them up to the standard of a Reagan after his last year in office.  If you want to viable example, try Reagan 1980, scars and all.  Yes, let the process run.  Yes, vet the candidates and yes, point out differences, but PLEASE stop eating your young!!
