Mexican Secretary of The Interior Dies in Helicopter Crash
UPDATE: It is now reported that Mexico’s Secretary of the Interior, Francisco Blake Mora, has died in the helicopter crash that we previously reported on.
The crashed occurred outside of Mexico City, according to Mexican officials.
The helicopter when down during travel to Cuernavaca, in neighbouring Morelos state..
It is also being reported that all 8 people who were on board were killed, though it is not yet clear what caused the crash.
Mr. Blake was appointed to his post as Secretary of the Interior in July of last year, and his main responsibility was overseeing police forces fighting drug cartels.
In a statement from government spokeswoman Alejandra Sota said:
“Unfortunately the interior secretary, his [assistants] and the helicopter crew were found dead.”
In an eerie twist o fate, Mr. Blake’s predecessor, Juan Camilo Mourino, was killed in a plane crash in Mexico City three years ago.
