America, You Can’t Handle The Truth!

Well, surprise, surprise! It seems President Obama has been caught in yet another lie.

During the 2008 campaign, as well as during the “debating” what would become the ram-rodding of ObamaCare down the throats of the American people, we heard time and time again the sad sob story of how his mother could not get health insurance in the last years of her life because the mean ole horrible insurance companies would not give it to her.

In September of 2008, Obama said:

“I remember in the last month of her life, she wasn’t thinking about how to get well, she wasn’t thinking about coming to terms with her own mortality, she was thinking about whether or not insurance was going to cover the medical bills and whether our family would be bankrupt as a consequence.”

He added to that, in January 2008, by saying:

“She was in her hospital room looking at insurance forms because the insurance company said that maybe she had a pre-existing condition and maybe they wouldn’t have to reimburse her for her medical bills.”

In February of 2010, during the ram-rodding session, he said:

“My Mother, who was self-employed, didn’t have reliable healthcare, and she died of ovarian cancer. There probably is nothing modern medicine could have done about that, it was caught late and thats a hard cancer to diagnose. I do remember the last six months of her life, insurance companies threatening that they would not reimburse her for her costs. And her having to be on the phone in the hospital argueing with insurance companies when what she should have been doing is spending time with her family.”

However, the sad sob story is not true. The facts, which are presented in a new book written by New York Times reporter Janny Scott tells an entirely different story. The book, entitled “A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mother”, reveals that Ann Dunham did, in fact, have health coverage for her ovarian cancer, and was compensated for most all of her treatments, with the exception of one in August of 1995 which was denied. She was, however, denied coverage by CIGNA for a claim under her employer’s disability insurance policy, which is separate from her healthcare policy. She applied for disability because she wanted to be compensated for medical costs as well as living expenses.

The author writes that Obama‘s tragic story of his mother’s fight with insurance companies was “abbreviated”, because she did have health insurance to pay for her treatment:

“Though he(Obama) often suggested that she was denied health coverage because of a pre-existing condition, it appears from her correspondence that she was only denied disability coverage’”

How do we know that Ann Dunham had insurance?  Her own words prove it, in correspondence  that Janny Scott reviewed for the book. Byron York, with the Washington Examiner, writes:

“Dunham decided to stay in Jakarta, where she underwent an appendectomy. But the pain did not go away, and Dunham feared, correctly, that she was terribly ill. In January 1995 she left Indonesia to go home to Honolulu, where she was diagnosed with advanced uterine and ovarian cancer. She began a regime of surgery and chemotherapy.

That is the time during which Obama says his mother battled insurance companies to cover her illness. But Scott, who had access to Dunham’s correspondence from the time, reveals that Dunham unquestionably had health coverage. ‘Ann’s compensation for her job in Jakarta had included health insurance, which covered most of the costs of her medical treatment,’ Scott writes. ‘Once she was back in Hawaii, the hospital billed her insurance company directly, leaving Ann to pay only the deductible and any uncovered expenses, which, she said, came to several hundred dollars a month.”

It is becoming quite evident that this President has no clue what the truth is!  While I am sure the last years of Ann Dunham’s life was quite painful and frustrating, her son has exploited her pain and frustration with outright lies! Obama has made his mother nothing but a pawn in his web of lies and schemes. The question now becomes: America, have you had enough? Are you going to hold him accountable in the 2012 election? Or are you going to continuing believing the lies that he spoon feeds you?
