A unionized public employee, a member of the Tea Party, and the CEO of a large corporation are sitting at a table. In the middle of the table is a plate with a dozen cookies on it. The CEO reaches across and takes 11 cookies…looks at the tea partier and says, “Watch out for that union guy, he wants a piece of your cookie.”

Corporate America loves conservative folks for helping to advance their agenda, which they’ve convinced them is also in their own best interests. They are the true enemy of the middle class, not unions which have helped to raise the standard of living for everyone and increased the rights of all workers, something that wealthy corporate donors cannot claim.

So you are ok with cradle to grave welfare generation to generation. I am tired of supporting people who don’t want to take care of themselves. I have had to take loans out before to pay my taxes. This is America, if you want a better job with more income you can go to college at night or online but don’t live you whole freaking life off the backs of taxpayers. That’s complete horseshit, utterly laughable! I’m a retired blue collar working bloke who worked a steady job and now have a puny pension. If you’re poorer than me, you’re probably within poverty levels. But I’m not even really complaining for myself, I do have enough to live a simple life, but there are those who have far less than I who are being tossed aside as if they simply don’t matter at all. I know people whom you would call bums and trash who bust their asses every day of their lives just to survive and need and use the services that our taxes afford them. It must astonish youy how life is still a daily struggle for those getting all of those glorious freebies, getting that free ride you think they enjoy! Those are the people I care about and if I should have to pay more in taxes than I might at first thnk is fair, if I feel they are being used to better the lives of those who most need help, you won’t hear me complaining. Can you say that? All I hear from you is “oh boo hoo for me”.

Democrats rely on the support of the people, the great many people who may only be able to afford a dollar apiece for the 14 Democratic Senators, myself for example. Republicans call on the fewer and better off who can afford to donate larger amounts. The real sign of support is not how much a few wealthier people can donate but how many people donate what they can. Scoff as you wish but that greater number of donors is the same majority of voters that will vote Republican Senators out of office very soon. You call the unions monstrous political machines but yet have no problem with donors such as the Koch Brothers who “only wants that’s best for America”?

And don’t even start to talk about the Bible!! American Conservative Christianity has become pure hypocrisy.

I think it’s funny that the left-wing lemmings are saying it is union busting to give workers the right to choose to spend 1,000.00 a year to support an organization who said itself it is only about political power and not about helping people keep their jobs. Funny how Dems call Republicans cowards who are actually doing the hard part and making people get used to the fact that in order for the state to get better you can’t listen to a couple of fat rich people who want to steal money from people’s pockets and call it protecting workers rights when really all they’re doing is making it easier to take people’s money and ignore those who give them the money. It’s funny how the Pro-union people for the most part are Jesse Jackson’s age. All we have to do is wait for the dinosaur’s to move out of the way and the real work can begin to restore login and common sense. Dems are proving time and again that logic and common sense are items that are rejected by Dems as they love to bask in a self-made spotlight and be total hypocrites who feel they can do whatever they want because they feel that they’re entitled to everything and that if you’re a Dem you deserve everything provided for freely by the Gov’t and how dare the gov’t ask it’s people to take care of themselves.

Wisconsin is, scratch that, was a wonderful state until Scott Walker showed up. A little history lesson. Before becoming governor, he was Milwaukee’s county exec. There he fired workers in Milwaukee, replaced them with out of state workers headed up by a criminal. Long story short, Milwaukee’s been forced to rehire and repay state workers to clean up after Walker.

Furthermore, if collective bargaining for teachers is such a detriment to students as Walker seems to suggest, why is it that Wisconsin students’ SAT scores are second only to Iowa, another collective bargaining state while the states with 44th, 47th, 48th, 49th, and 50th worst SAT scores are states that prohibit collective bargaining.

It’s one thing to try to make an argument for your position based on facts. But at this site, most are just making ideological arguments that have no basis in reality.

I am a non-union, proud Wisconsinite. I would like to retire to a warmer location but haven’t been able to find a southern state that comes close to the high standards for education, integrity, and good government that we have in this state. I’ll put on boots and shlep around in the snow rather than endure the disrespect afforded education and government in many of the more temperate areas of the country. So I applaud and support those 14 Senators who love Wisconsin enough to leave it in order to save it. And for those of you who weren’t lucky enough to have been educated in Wisconsin, you are probably unaware of the fact that Abraham Lincoln, a Republican, did the same thing as the Wisconsin 14. He fled the Illinois legislature in order to stop a vote that would have ended the Illinois state bank. You all should come to Wisconsin. We could teach you a thing or two.

Also, I would like to say that I am extremely saddened at the success of government (at all levels) to continually divide the people on issues that we seem to have no control. Political posturing, talking-point parroting, partisan rubbish is most of what I see on either side of the fence. Where are the truth-seekers? Are we making a better world for our children by continuing to fight with each other? Can we really believe that if we can individually ensure wealth is left for our own family, while our neighbors suffer, will lead to a better world for them to live in? Can we ever just be truthful in a discussion on how to proceed with the decisions for our future? My mother always said that “life isn’t fair,” and I have accepted that. Yet I am not quite ready to accept that promoting my self-interest and my self-interest alone will lead to happiness and prosperity for generations to come.

If this was really about the majority of people not wanting to be in unions, Walker could simply impose a bill that requires WI to be an “open-shop” state. This means that people can choose whether or not they want to be part of the union. If unions weren’t really a majority, and therefore not a threat, why would Walker do everything he could to weaken and decertify them? Are we also forgetting the private sector’s right to organize? Employer strategy tends to try to keep workers happy to avoid being vulnerable to unionization, do they not? If unions didn’t exist, or rights to collectively bargain at all, what incentive would companies have to provide fair wages and employment conditions? Also, what is with all the name calling Ex-Liberal Daily Kos? I am not a dirty hippie scumbag. I am a working college student, coming from a lower-middle class family, putting myself through school and am ready to contribute society. While I worked several jobs while getting a degree, I still needed and received help from state programs and the staff employed by such programs. I am happy to pay their salaries through taxes.
