I like when he takes a different perspective on history. He has gotten me to read some books I didn’t know about.

As far as the rally, I think it was amazing. I went because I am a veteran and wanted to show support for the troops. I use this site as a sponsor of SOWF and have given, what I consider, large sums of money to them and other veteran’s charities.

As a side-effect, I found Dr. King’s speech to be effective and motivating. Tony La Russa’s .. not so much.

Hearing the stories of so many brave men in such difficult situations reminds us all that we don’t have it so bad. It also reminds us that whatever we have done or are doing, there is more that is to be done.

Beck’s closer was great. If you think he took on the tone of a snake-oil salesman or tent-revivalist .. well, that’s your right. In fact, it’s your responsibility to have and protect your own opinion. I am also required to defend your right to disagree with my opinion.

What I took from Beck’s speech was that we should look inside and ask, “Have I not done enough for my country?” – and then answer “not yet”.

I cannot find one negative or hurtful message at that rally. He didn’t sell anything, discount anyone or disparage any group. It didn’t cost anything to attend, could have watched for free on C-SPAN, and the replays aren’t being sold on DVD because they are available for nothing on the internet. No baskets were passed, anointments given or baptisms performed. It was not anything close to the revivalist gatherings I have witnessed.

There were three messages that day. Honor our troops – they deserve it, equality (as defined in the Constitution) has not yet been achieved, and that taking God out of the list of bad words might just add morality into places it’s needed (Congress?). If you only could live with two of the three messages .. why disparage the event?

I think more good than bad was accomplished and no damage was done at a minimum. There are far more important things to rail against than a massive gathering of Americans that were there to support our troops, pursue equality and bring God back where, as Justic Scalia once proposed, seperation of church and state is but a bulldozer removing religion from American public life
